I ordered the same shrimp I've ordered a few times, and it is usually mild and cooked well. However, today it was not mild and many portions were burnt/overcooked. I ate around the darkest shrimp and the mushy peppers and onions. I did take a to go box and left the burnt peppers and onions. I won't eat it but the kiddo will. Our service was bad, and she seemed unhappy we were there. She also wanted us to order within a few minutes of sitting down. So, I think you should look at the menu online, because you wouldn't want to have the server have to come back more than absolutely necessary. Table checks from the server didn't really happen-checked once. We stopped another employee to ask for chips. I did mention the overcooked/burnt portions. She said hold on and came back with our check. You would think someone from mgmt would come by, but nope. I didn't want my meal for free or even discounted, but a table check would have been nice. So, if you are looking for spicy when you ask for mild, stopping someone else to ask for things, drinking someone else's water, and bad service then this is the place for you! read more

We waited 20 minutes for the server to come by due to "miscommunication". Food came out incorrectly, drinks were slow to arrive and then we had to wave the waiter down to ask for the kids drinks. I wanted to enjoy this place. Unfortunately, as quite a few other reviews have said, the service was nearly nonexistent. We were seated quickly and received chips and salsa. About ten minutes before our order was taken. (Not terrible) However, we finished our meal and asked for boxes at 8:00 and didn't get them until about 8:40. Came here for lunch just before noon during the week. We were seated right away. It wasn't overflowing, but they were doing good business. Quick to ask us for our drink orders, but then the service was a little slow and we had to ask multiple times for some things (glass for bottled soda, for example). The chips on the table were pretty good and the pico had a little zing to it. When it came to the food, they served up really solid tex-mex food--it was good but nothing super special. We loved that they had a la carte options so you could build your own plate or mix and match. They also have a few interesting options that you don't typically see on tex-mex menus--gorditas and sopes. They also had some fun looking drinks but we didn't try those this time. El sarape on the east side used to be fantastic. I don't know what happened when they moved to the new location. I just had the second bad experience there this afternoon. The first time the steak my fajita was so bad I couldn't even eat it. I told the waitress that she took the plate never came back. Never asked me if I wanted something else just left. Went here for lunch and will not be back. When our food came out it was not hot. Usually the plates at any Mexican restaurant we have been to are so hot they carry them out with pot holders and tell you the plates are very hot. Carried them out with bare hands . We would have liked more salsa but the waitress never came back until she brought our bill. I did not see her check on any tables. Also had takeout one time and they were making a drink and taking the ice out with their hands. The food is so good. So good. That's why my family keeps coming back. Then, pray tell cat-mask-avatar, why the two stars? There is something really sketchy about the service and quality of El Sarape. My family seems to forget about it just long enough for us to come back again and be slightly perturbed all over again. A few years ago, my vegan sister was served the wrong burrito (filled with meat). Multiple instances we've gone, the waiters never check in on soda or water refills. Today, my mother found a literal rock in her taco salad. Like a solid pebble the size of a thumbnail. We were given a new salad, but not on the house. Not saying it should have been free, but their apathy was mildly concerning to say the least. It was a rock! I think the rock was the final straw... our family tradition of sometimes-visiting El Sarape for birthdays came to a sad end tonight. You should still go, if you like good food. This was the first time Ive been to this location. I wasn't thrilled with the welcome we received when we were seated and given menus. Hostesses don't typically throw menus on the table and walk away. That put a bad taste in my mouth, but our server tired it around and gave us good service thereafter. The menu is fairly extensive but all in all, it's the Mexican fare. I ordered chimichangas with shrimp (3 small) and I was actually pleasantly surprised with the size and quality of the shrimp! Usually it's kind of a gamble but I'm glad I ordered them. We don't typically order desert but there was a special on the fried ice cream, so we went for it. It was amazing!! I really really enjoy this restaurant I've never had a bad experience caused by wait staff but the prices have gotten a bit high finding myself enjoying the staff and food less often too bad but on the other hand the food and staff are terrific don't order the Sarape enchiladas you get charged for the plate as well as each enchilada separately kinda ridicules really read more

If you live in Green Bay and don't love El Sarape, we probably can't be friends. I have been a fan of the bean and avocado burrito for years and years. Unfortunately, I live in MKE now, and don't visit nearly enough. The chips and salsa are awesome as well as their tacos. It's a family and friend favorite dining spot.
