I walked in without an appointment on a weeknight for a shellac manicure and was greeted upon entering, which sadly is not something that can always be expected at a lot of nail salons. So, that was refreshing, especially having never been here before and being an unfamiliar face to the staff. I waited about 10-15 minutes and then was seated to have my shellac soaked off. My tech was friendly but not overly talkative and she was very quick. For me, thats a huge plus! I have zero patience when it comes to getting my nails done and hate sitting. I prefer a quick tech who does a good job than a slow tech that is a perfectionist. Again- personal preference! The shop is clean and they have an OK selection of shellac polishes. CNC and OPI. I will be interested to see how this mani holds up and I'll update my review if my opinion and satisfaction changes. I will be back as of now :) read more

I have had a lot of tough experiences when it comes to nails around Richmond and midlothian but this is my favorite salon! Solar nails used to be in Westchester Common and now they are off Midlothian Turnpike by Chesterfield Mall. Jackie is so kind and genuine and she did a great job on my toes. We talked all about her life and how she got into nails - I have never been happier about supporting a business. Their new place is beautiful and clean and I already have made another appointment for a few weeks out to come back! read more

I took my daughters there today for pedicures. They're nice people but their prices are high and they didn't even do anything about our callouses or dead skin. For $30 a piece plus tip this was pretty disappointing. If they'd have done more I'd recommend them because the place smells fresh, appears clean and they're friendly enough. But I have the exact same dead skin on my feet that I walked in with. Even my 16 year old daughter, who's only had a pedi a few times, made this very comment to me. read more

I went in for pedicures with my mom on a busy Saturday. We were greeted when we walked in and were told it would be about a 20 minute wait. They have a great selection of polishes, so we took our time to pick out our color and then relaxed in the lobby area until we were called back. The technician who did my nails was very friendly and polite. He didn't try to make a lot of awkward small talk either, which I appreciated as I just wanted to relax. He did a great job; he was very thorough and the polish looked great. The prices are on par with the prices of other salons, and I felt like they did a better job than other salons I've been to. They were certainly more friendly! The salon is clean and large and doesn't feel crowded or dingy. This is the best place to get your nails done in Westchester Commons! read more

I rarely get to have my nails done since I have three young children. I arrived an hour and 15 minutes before closing with my daughter as a treat for her after the first day of school, and they rushed us throughout the entire visit. They did my manicure quickly at my pedicure chair and used barely any lotion. They also didn't respect my daughters request about how she wanted her nails painted. Also, they were most definitely talking about us in Vietnamese. I've given them several chances but no more. Don't waste your time with these lazy, rude women! read more

The quality of service is lacking here. After getting a mani/pedi it felt like I'd had nothing done within an hour of getting home. They didn't remove much of my calluses and they just put cheap lotion on my feet. The gel polish they applied peeled off in 3 days on its own! Won't be returning there again. read more

I recently moved to the area and was a bit reluctant to drift away from my go to place in Richmond, but had heard good things and thought I would try a place closer to home. I called the day before yesterday and made an appointment for myself and a friend to get pedicures after work yesterday. When we walked in, no one spoke to us so I caught the eye of one of the girls and told her that we had an appointment, she said ok, then continued with her client. After about 20 minutes, one of the employees comes to the waiting area and asks the person sitting beside me if they had been helped. She stated that she would like a pedicure and was taken back to begin the service. At that point I spoke up and informed the person that we had appointments. She seemed a bit confused and said it would be a bit longer because we were together. After another 10 minutes (30 minutes PAST our appointment time), we decided to leave and go somewhere else. We told the nearest employee that we were disappointed, but couldn't waste any more time and she simply stated "I'm sorry" in a way that was obvious that she could care less. I had high hopes for this place and it's decorated nicely and seemed clean, but won't go back after that experience. read more

I called ahead of time to be sure they could accommodate a mani. I arrived an hour before they closed and sat down immediately to remove my previous gel manicure. They asked if I wanted a pedicure and I indulged. The girl who did my pedi was a delight but rushed my service, completed in under 15 minutes. The other nail tech was working on my nails at the same time. She jammed the metal cuticle pusher into each of my nail beds with unnecessary force because she was rushing. She sat me down at her station after my pedi was done and I had to ask her to address the gel that was still remaining on the corners of each nail. She seemed annoyed that I criticized her work but I'm paying her to do a good job. I told the techs that I was getting ready for vacation and was expecting a proposal so my nails needed to be on point! I paid $50 plus a $10 tip for my nails to look like I did it myself and I left feeling rushed and unfinished. I will never go back. read more

I had a pedicure at Solar Nails at Westchester Commons back in February, and I won't be returning. During the pedicure, the nail technician scraped several layers of skin off of my heal during the heal buffing process. A week after the pedicure, the wound became infected. I was required to take an oral antibiotic and endure a long, painful healing process. The wound is still in the final stages of healing. This injury brought with it some significant pain. As a teacher, I spend most of my work day walking around and on my feet. I also teach a fitness class at the gym, which was made much more challenging with this injury. While it was all accidental and certainly not intended by the nail technician, the way it has been handled by management has been less than ideal or appropriate. read more

Just walked in to get a manicure to help my winter hands look better, should have gone somewhere else. When I sat down, Veronica asked if I would like the shellac manicure to which I said no I just want a regular manicure. Then as she starts on my nails she tries to convince me to get a shellac stating it lasts longer and will be better with the dark color I've chosen. I politely told her I just wanted a regular manicure. At this point you could tell she was not interested in doing my nails anymore. I asked to make them all one length (they were all long except one). She cut them down, barely filed and shaped them, polished them (not well) and was done in about 15 minutes. She ended up doing "solar nails" and charging me $60 for them. She also facetime'd somebody while she was in the middle of doing my nails, and also messed up my top coat. The place is really clean and pretty so i assumed the work was too. I've been there twice and the first time, i got dip powder nails and i asked for them to be longer, but the lady cut my nails then told me she couldn't make them longer because she had just cut them. I was upset at first but in the end they turned out very pretty. I went back in today to get regular acrylics. First, i still had a little bit of the old dip powder on my nails and assumed the lady would take it off. Also, my nails were all different lengths so i also thought she'd cut them. She didn't even touch my nails. Instead, she just started putting on the fake nail and acrylic over them, so now they're all going to grow unevenly. Also, the length and shape turned out horrible. When she first cut the acrylics, she asked if the length was okay and i said i wanted them a little shorter. She told me when she filed them down they would get shorter so she didn't need to cut them more. Not only did they stay the same length when she filed them, but the shape turned out bad. I asked for a square shape, like the ones she had. It's a simple shape to do. She made them look uneven and all flared out. Not to mention the acrylic itself was uneven. It was thin on the lower part of my nail and very thick toward the top. Basically everything about the nails looked awkward and when i left i realized how bad they were. The second i got home i cut them down more and filed them better. Even though i've only gone twice, both times i went with my friend and her end result was always way prettier than mine. i'm not sure if it's the nail techs that i get but i'm pretty sure i'll be going to a different salon for prom. read more
