On this rainy morning I ventured out for breakfast and decided to try this place. I only had a glass of water and "The Alameda". Think of this as a toasted French bread sandwich with ham, mushrooms, toasted garlic tomatoes with swiss cheese topped with two over easy eggs with hollandaise sauce. Truly a warm and hardy meal. Even I agree there was an adequate amount of food for a guy like me that has a hearty appetite. It's funny this place has a full bar but the restaurant is only opened for breakfast and lunch! Overall 3.5 stars: Cute diner that has comforting & home-like feel. The owner and staff are friendly and while it seems that they are operating lean, they get the job done. * Espresso martini was okay. I don't mind that it was alcohol forward, but it could've used a bit more Bailey's to give it that velvety finish that espresso martinis need. * Huevos rancheros was very flavorful. The beans were seasoned well and the salsa, sour cream, cilantro balanced it out. The only ding I'll give here is that this dish didn't come out piping hot, it was warm in the center and cold around the edges of the plate. If there was a microwave I would've popped it in and would've been okay. (The owner did offer to do that, but again- it was still a very tasty dish) Other than that, we'd visit again and look forward to trying other things on the menu. read more

YUM! Had a lovely brunch with parents on one of my favorite streets, Solano Avenue. Formerly the Sunny Side Cafe, the location and menu were pretty similar, which I had enjoyed in the past. We went around 8:30a when it opened (yay- no line!) and dined inside. We got freshly squeezed orange juice, 3 buttermilk pancakes with berries, custom omelet with spinach, mushrooms, and Italian sausage, and Wildcat Benedict (bacon and roasted tomatoes). *Tip- you get a free coffee with a Yelp check-in! Everything was fresh and delicious- my poached eggs were perfectly cooked, potatoes were crispy and flavorful, and the pancakes were fluffy and yummy. Service was also great and I'd definitely return. This cute spot I'm downtown Albany is perfect for brunch on a weekend. Very popular spot with multiple breakfast options for food and drinks. They relocated to Shattuck where the Imperial Tea Court used to be. The newish owners of this place are still keeping it sunny by keeping it a daytime diner that closes at 2:30PM. That means a lot of eggs, pancakes, and house specials for breakfast and burgers, sammies, and salads for lunch. Yes, you can have lunch for breakfast or breakfast for lunch because it all comes from the same griddle. I decided to be good (or at least goodish) by ordering the $15.99 Herby Egg White Omelet from The Healthy Start section of the menu. It had tomato, green onion, spinach and avocado folded into the unusually fluffy egg whites. So glad I live minutes away-- maybe more incentive to sleep in less........ For COVID safety purposes, all staff and patrons must wear masks, and indoor seating is limited. Parking is available on offshoots from the main street. They're wildly busy on weekends, so expect anywhere between a 15-40 minute wait to be seated. Servers are SO friendly, despite the frenzy. I've been here before and had good experiences. I'll be back for sure, but today was not the day. I sat at the bar because I wanted to order to go and just have a coffee as I was waiting for my food. The lady behind the bar seen me and another woman sit down . She say before me so I assumed she'd get helped right before. The lady proceeded to take her order and it was only us two at the bar. Favorite new breakfast spot! I got a vegan scramble (sub tofu for eggs) with a bunch of veggies. I also added veggie sausage links that were good. And their homemade hot sauce is delicious. When they realized I was vegan, they came out from the kitchen to let me know the breakfast potatoes are made with butter. And they assured me the house got sauce was safe to eat. They do offer outdoor seating right now and there's a lot of parking available which is a plus! My favorite location in Albany. My favorite part of the morning is spent in Solano Junction. I always enjoy their freshly made multigrain pancakes with fresh berries on top, and they go well with pure maple syrup. adding a bit of bacon strips (4 pieces )On sometimes, when I ask the server for something crispy, it arrives just right. The menu offers several options, including a veggie bowl and my favorite dish, a WildCat Benedict with their house-made spicy sauce that makes my morning potatoes practically lickable. Their veggie options, Florentine Benedict and Salmon Benedict, are good. The $10 hot sauce is also available for purchase. On days such as this, you may enjoy bottomless mimosas and a fully opened bar with Sunny. I always like to talk to both Anshu and Angel the Server. really knowledgable, constantly smiling and willing to assist. The restaurant might get crowded at times, especially on the weekends, but I always see the staff trying their hardest to make sure every customer is acknowledged, and it makes me feel amazing to see how much they love what they do. I was craving some delicious breakfast and decided to try Solano Junction, I had been here pre-Covid and I wasn't disappointed today. The food is so good and the service was amazing. Solano junction has a variety of food- omelets, egg Benedict's, and also house specialties like huevos rancheros. I also like that they had a good drink menu. Coffees, teas, champagne, and wine. I like the vibe of this cafe. It's very quaint but still charming. They have indoor and outdoor dining and bar style seating indoors. The ambiance is very comfy and I enjoy coming here by myself. After we got our orders in, our food came out shortly. The hollandaise sauce on my two Florentine benedicts was bitter. It made everything taste bitter since it was on a bed of tomatoes and spinach that had no flavor so depended on the sauce. The eggs were done well but unfortunately flavor was bad. The little cup of fruit was good. Partner had pigs in a blanket and he could choose between a apple chicken sausage or Italian sausages. He chose the apple chicken which had tons of anise spices in it and that didn't go well with the pancakes that wrapped around it. Too bad since the pancakes themselves were nice and fluffy.
