We came here for lunch fairly late so there was ample seating. Since we had our dog, we decided to sit outside. The original spot we sat at was very shady and cold so when the other patrons left, we switched over to a sunnier table. The staff did not seem to mind us making the switch. Food was pretty good and decent sized serving. Hubby ordered the enchiladas and as you can see from the pic it was quite sizable. I wouldn't say the food was the best we ever had, but it was pretty good and worth visiting. Solano Avenue has a lot of restaurants with outside seating and this was one of them. read more

This is my favorite restaurant. Wondering friendly service. Fabulous food. Comfortable seating. If you are getting breakfast anywhere else, you're making a mistake. read more

First time here. The ambiance was good & so was the coffee. The food was very bland n the potatoes had no seasoning or flavor. I felt that it was over priced and the food was not hot when it came to our table. We also never received our water. Owner was nice and took the criticism well. Unfortunately we won't be going back. read more

A few friends and I (5 of us to be exact) saw the good reviews and decided that we would give this establishment a try. The reason I am giving this place a 1 star review is because of the way we treated from the moment we stepped into this place of business. We entered the building and was standing at the front for a good 3-5 minutes before we were even greeted. The place was not busy at all but certainly did have people dining inside and outside. After 2-3 times of walking pass us, someone finally came up to us and asked us how many were in our group. We stated 5 and she immediately told us they didn't have room in the restaurant to seat 5 people. My friends and I were all shocked because what restaurant doesn't have seating for 5 people?!? After seeing our faces and asking a few questions about tables we noticed were empty, she told us we could wait for a party of two that was dining to finish and she could sit us at that particular table and add a chair. We didn't want to wait and rush the people who were already sitting so we decided to sit at what appeared to be a bar area. As we sat, the staff were giving us strange looks and also were mumbling things, this was the third uncomfortable incident within 10 minutes of being in this place. Once we sat down we were not asked if we would like water or anything but eventually they did bring out a menu for each of us to look at. We sat another 5 minutes before one of my friends decided to ask one of the servers if we could at least have a cup of water. It was then that we decided as a collective that we were not going to spend our money in a place that would treat us so unfairly. This was my first and last time ever visiting this place. It's quite obvious they cater to a certain crowd but no worries they lost out on money and customers. We ended our day/afternoon at a different place and felt very happy spending our time and money else where. read more

Eggs Benedict was as advertised but the Hollandaise was not too flavorful Huevos rancheros was melded together well, so every bite had the right elements and proportions. Breakfast sando was good and well balanced Potatoes are well seasoned. Could be crispier Good options on non dairy milks for coffee and hot cocoa Bathroom grade B. It's clean enough. Not aesthetic really. Nice neighborhood location. Nice outdoor seating. The food here is decent home chef style and when we are in this area it has been a reliable decent place to dine with others, but it's not food I'd recall as the go- to place for my favorite whatever. On this rainy morning I ventured out for breakfast and decided to try this place. I only had a glass of water and "The Alameda". Think of this as a toasted French bread sandwich with ham, mushrooms, toasted garlic tomatoes with swiss cheese topped with two over easy eggs with hollandaise sauce. Truly a warm and hardy meal. Even I agree there was an adequate amount of food for a guy like me that has a hearty appetite. It's funny this place has a full bar but the restaurant is only opened for breakfast and lunch! Cozy enough inside. Worth a visit. read more

YUM! Had a lovely brunch with parents on one of my favorite streets, Solano Avenue. Formerly the Sunny Side Cafe, the location and menu were pretty similar, which I had enjoyed in the past. We went around 8:30a when it opened (yay- no line!) and dined inside. We got freshly squeezed orange juice, 3 buttermilk pancakes with berries, custom omelet with spinach, mushrooms, and Italian sausage, and Wildcat Benedict (bacon and roasted tomatoes). *Tip- you get a free coffee with a Yelp check-in! Everything was fresh and delicious- my poached eggs were perfectly cooked, potatoes were crispy and flavorful, and the pancakes were fluffy and yummy. Service was also great and I'd definitely return. I had fond memories of having "The Alameda" (French toast sandwich with ham, cheese, tomato, topped with eggs, hollandaise) in the past and may have to try it again next time! read more

Overall 3.5 stars: Cute diner that has comforting & home-like feel. The owner and staff are friendly and while it seems that they are operating lean, they get the job done. * Espresso martini was okay. I don't mind that it was alcohol forward, but it could've used a bit more Bailey's to give it that velvety finish that espresso martinis need. * Huevos rancheros was very flavorful. The beans were seasoned well and the salsa, sour cream, cilantro balanced it out. The only ding I'll give here is that this dish didn't come out piping hot, it was warm in the center and cold around the edges of the plate. If there was a microwave I would've popped it in and would've been okay. (The owner did offer to do that, but again- it was still a very tasty dish) Other than that, we'd visit again and look forward to trying other things on the menu. read more

Oh dear, this place gave me a Schoolhouse Rock flashback moment... and if you don't remember those classic Saturday morning cartoon shorts, you must be either too young or in need of your Prevagen. Anyway, one of my favorite of their sing-along ditties was "Conjunction Function" sung by the inimitable Jack Sheldon. It went somethin' like this... Solano Junction, what's your function? Hooking up eggs and toast and batter. Solano Junction, how's that function? I got three favorite cars That get most of my job done. Solano Junction, what's their function? I got "scramble", "omelette", and "crepe", They'll get you pretty far. Oh yes, I came here before when it was the Sunny Side Up Cafe. They relocated to Shattuck where the Imperial Tea Court used to be. The newish owners of this place are still keeping it sunny by keeping it a daytime diner that closes at 2:30PM. That means a lot of eggs, pancakes, and house specials for breakfast and burgers, sammies, and salads for lunch. Yes, you can have lunch for breakfast or breakfast for lunch because it all comes from the same griddle. I decided to be good (or at least goodish) by ordering the $15.99 Herby Egg White Omelet from The Healthy Start section of the menu. It had tomato, green onion, spinach and avocado folded into the unusually fluffy egg whites. There was gratefully sourdough toast, but a mixed salad replaced the usual side of country potatoes (photo: https://bit.ly/3PsWL1X). Of course it was healthy, but it was also surprisingly good and filling. That accomplishment didn't stop me from ordering the $5 side of Homemade Pork Sausage, which tasted a bit Jimmy Deanish (photo: https://bit.ly/3wEXwfF). But meat is meat so no complaints. Solano Junction, what's your function? Hooking up food and making 'em function. Solano Junction, how's that function? I like tying up eggs and salad and sausage. FOOD - 4 stars...got a healthy start with their healthy start AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...pretty much Sunny Side Up redux SERVICE - 4 stars...attentive and courteous TOTAL - 4 stars...Solano Junction, what's your function? This cute spot I'm downtown Albany is perfect for brunch on a weekend. Very popular spot with multiple breakfast options for food and drinks. The alameda was delicious with some savory French toast and sausage - would skip the tomato though. The omelette and potatoes were also delicious. Tried a latte and it was a good option as well. Service was quick and efficient. Parking was easy on the street. Would recommend this spot for a scrumptious brunch. read more

YOOOO SOLANO JUNCTION IS FIRE. Chose this spot on a whim when we finally woke up early enough on a weekend before all the brunch places closed :') Very much worth the "early" morning start. So glad I live minutes away-- maybe more incentive to sleep in less........ For COVID safety purposes, all staff and patrons must wear masks, and indoor seating is limited. Parking is available on offshoots from the main street. They're wildly busy on weekends, so expect anywhere between a 15-40 minute wait to be seated. Servers are SO friendly, despite the frenzy. THE ALAMEDA: A must for savory brunch food lovers! The gooey fried egg + tangy balsamic + french toast combo is such a win. Their hollandaise is perfectly buttery, which IMO is hard to find. Latte was standard. The star is absolutely the food. Also bonus points for serving fruit salad that has more than 3 fruits and isn't overwhelmingly cantaloupe/honeydew ha read more

Decided to try this place was a little skeptical because of some reviews saying they didn't seem friendly and did not provide the best service to people of color. I saw an IG post from @booziebrunch who loved it and decided to give it a shot. We made a reservation and came in and were seated very quickly. It was quite busy. Our server was very nice and friendly. I wanted to try this place initially because I was interested in the bottomless mimosas. I however was unable try them because they require everyone at your table to have the bottomless mimosas if you want them. I think this is not a good way to do things because if someone in your party does not drink or does not want to drink that much you now cannot get what you would like. Since half our party didn't want that much to drink we could not get the bottomless mimosas. We did get small carafes and the mimosas were very good. My companions were satisfied with their food. I ordered the pigs in a blanket with home fries instead of eggs. I opted for the grilled Italian sausage. It was ok the sausage has a good flavor. The pancakes were very thick in size and texture and there was half a sausage in each pancake. Given the thickness of the pancake it overpowers the half sausage. It would have been much better in my opinion with a whole sausage in each and with a $18.99 price point I expected 1 sausage in each pancake. I am not sure I would visit again. read more

We lost a number of great breakfast places in the area as a result of covid. But as summer unfolds the entrepreneurial spirit abounds and new fresh places are opening. A new fresh paint job, some redecorating and a lot of love passion and sweat has blossomed into new places, like Solano Junction. We timed it right getting a table in less than 5 minutes wait. As we left the waiting patrons spilled up and down this side of Solano Blvd. hangry from breakfast and lunch we decided to each order one and splitskies. I had the eggs with peppers n bacon and a huge flapjack pancake. Bae got the burger All of it was so darn good! Staff fast friendly and efficient. We didn't get lattes or cappuccino and regret it as they looked yummy going to regrettably other tables. We morn the loss of A number of go-to breakfast-spots nearby. [ During Covid Review ] Came here to grab some brunch with my fiance. We ended up doing take out because all the seating outside was packed and we didn't feel like waiting for a table. They do offer outdoor seating right now and there's a lot of parking available which is a plus! They make sure all employees are wearing masks and they do try to keep their 6ft distance among themselves and customers which is reassuring. We ended up ordering : - Pigs in a blanket :: 2 pieces of french toast, Italian sausage, 2 sunny side up eggs. My fiance ordered this and when we opened our to go box, he was a big disappointed because the sausage wasn't in between the french toast like he expected. Overall though, this dish was good, but a let down on the presentation - Herby Egg White Omelet :: Egg whites, tomato, green onion, bell peppers and spinach. This does come with a salad and 2 pieces of toast. Egg whites were cooked perfect and the tomatoes/spinach/bell peppers were a good mix with the egg whites. We definitely want to come back here to try their omelettes since everything sounded good on the menu. read more

This is my 2nd time coming here, I am so dissatisfied and will not be back. The judgement we received reeked of racism. The table was dirty, sticky with syrup from the last diners. The bottomless mimosas were not bottomless. It took 20 minutes for our first drinks to arrive. The server told us the carafe must be empty in order to receive another mimosa. When we requested a refill we were right at before the one hour mark but were denied. The food was mediocre, never received dressing for salad. It's a never again for me. The Huevos Rancheros were very good. I was a little skeptical that the tortillas were served as a part of the dish, with the beans underneath, the chorizo and cheese in between, and the eggs, salsa and sour cream served on top. I've been here before and had good experiences. I'll be back for sure, but today was not the day. I sat at the bar because I wanted to order to go and just have a coffee as I was waiting for my food. The lady behind the bar seen me and another woman sit down . She say before me so I assumed she'd get helped right before. The lady proceeded to take her order and it was only us two at the bar. Did she come to me after giving the customer her water. No, she walked from behind the bar and helped at table that was getting helped already by the other workers. Maybe if she said I'll be right back or something like that I would have been ok with. But, she just ignored me as I'm patiently waiting with the menu to order. I sat for a good while and then decided to leave. I have no patience for neglect unfortunately. read more

Our first time here and we were not impressed. For a Saturday, we were seated immediately by the nice gentleman in the front of the house but after that we were ignored for a long time. After we got our orders in, our food came out shortly. The hollandaise sauce on my two Florentine benedicts was bitter. It made everything taste bitter since it was on a bed of tomatoes and spinach that had no flavor so depended on the sauce. The eggs were done well but unfortunately flavor was bad. The little cup of fruit was good. Partner had pigs in a blanket and he could choose between a apple chicken sausage or Italian sausages. He chose the apple chicken which had tons of anise spices in it and that didn't go well with the pancakes that wrapped around it. Too bad since the pancakes themselves were nice and fluffy. We probably won't come back. read more
