I was searching for a place to have breakfast after church for 20+ people. I had been to several places in Oakland, Alameda, and Berkeley but none of them were accommodating for such a large group on a Sunday morning. I was googling places for a final attempt on Friday afternoon while in Albany and Solano Junction came up, so I decided to check them out. First impression - The hostess greeted us upon entry, I mentioned I was looking for somewhere to come on Sunday with a group. We took a seat at the counter and the owner immediately came to welcome us. I shared my dilemma with Dev, and he emphatically listened and said while they do not take reservations for large groups, he would do his best to welcome us if we could arrive all at the same time. I began to take notice of the wait staff and customer interaction, they all seemed equally happy to be there. (*****) The Food- While everyone was friendly the real decision would be determined by the food, so we ordered French toast, side of chorizo and the owner brought over a side of potatoes for us to taste. Everything was delicious, the French toast came with fresh berries, and homemade jam, the sausage was perfectly grilled, and the potatoes were yummy. I instantly became excited at the possibility of having breakfast with the group in this newfound gem. (*****) Well Sunday everyone arrived promptly at 10 and the group was seated on arrival, the orders were taken, and food was delivered in an efficient and timely manner. I ordered the blueberry pancakes; side of bacon and I could hardly believe they were even better than the French toast I had previously. The other high five would be the price point was very reasonable for what you get. What a great place to have breakfast on Solano! This spot has really tasty breakfast food with lots of options (but not too many)! This food is absolutely delicious without all the fuss and long wait times that some Berkeley breakfast restaurants flaunt. My family and I sat outside in their parklet. The staff was excellent! the restaurant owner or manager checked in with us in the middle of the meal and he asked us personally about our meal and how everything was going. Our family ate lunch at Solano Junction today. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. The food and drinks were also very delicious! We really enjoyed our time there. Several hours after we ate there my 3 year old daughter realized that she left her new favorite necklace on the table. We called the restaurant, and they had it! Solano Junction is already a popular breakfast and brunch spot with a delicious menu that includes an array of lovely mimosas made with fresh squeezed orange juice. Now open for dinner, my husband and I stopped by last night to to give it a try. First, we over ordered and shared; appetizers of jalapeño poppers and drinks. The owner made me a peach flavored lemon drop that I requested and he made up (amazing) and my husband found a new beer that he is now obsessed with (Alluvium Pilsner). Then Spaghetti Carbonara and a New Your Steak with another appetizer of fries on the side ...followed up with a Creme Brûlée. The owner shared his wonderful home made hot sauce from Nepal during the meal. Service was outstanding and the staff was friendly. The Chef and co-owner came out to meat us and check on the satisfaction of our meal. I highly recommend the Eggs Florentine with it's divine hollandaise done right. I hated leaving some of the garlic roasted tomato behind. Lovely I was interested to see the new restaurant that had opened up in this spot on Solano. I ordered the asparagus salad as well as the New York state. I paired that with a lovely glass of Pinot Noir. Everything was wonderful. The asparagus was soft but crispy not overcooked at all really high quality produce was used throughout the salad I enjoyed every bite. The staff was both friendly and efficient. We've only had dinner here (outside once, takeout once). The salmon is a standout dish - cooked perfectly, with a delicious combination of veg and Israeli couscous. Kid enjoys the gigantic burger, and the nibble I had was yummy. Great, well-balanced cocktails too, although a little unstrained ice got into my drink. I looked at the menu and decided to give it a try. I am very familiar with businesses on Solano and was shocked to see where it was located. I never paid attention to the fact that location was no longer Sunny Side Cafe. When I went in, I knew I had found a promising new place to go. The restaurant was a perfect size. Not too big and they also have an outdoor space. The sports on TV as added bonus! I was just hoping the food was going to seal the deal. It did not disappoint! The waitstaff was nice, and very attentive, but not so much to be annoying. The food and drinks outstanding!! The owner came and introduced himself, we chatted for a minute and also talked to him when leaving. A most wonderful and humble man. Had a bite to eat here this morning with a friend of mines. We ordered our food and waited patiently. After we got our latte and sparkling water not one time did a waiter check on us. Almost a hour went by (latte completely cold by now) and I ask about my food. After seeing other people walk in and get seated, order, and get there food I was extremely bothered. Once we decide to leave they ask what's wrong? It's now past a hr. They apologize and say the meal is on them and beg us to take a seat. Well we take a seat and about 30-45 mins later our food comes out. Oh and we o only ordered pancakes. Have you ever seen pancakes take 1 hr and 45 mins. Oh yea and they gave us the bill afterwards and took off the latte and sparkling water. And they were much nicer and attended to us afterwards. I'm not gonna make this about race. But we were the only blacks in the restaurant. We stood out! How could you not see us. I will never go here again. Nice people just only after the mess up. Horrible read more
