Horrible!!! Sorry, but Jalea doesn't consist of 90% of calamari frozen rings. No shrimp at all and greasy ass white fish. Take it off the menu and while you're at it take the chicken and Sangria off too. Just nasty. Don't waste your money here. Walk, no, run away fast. I want to know if the people who reviewed this place 4 stars or better, have actual taste buds??? Smfh

This is a new Peruvian spot in Union City, good atmosphere, good music, the rotisserie chicken is good, not overcooked or dry, just right, now their beans were also good, never had beans like theirs anywhere before, the gravy was nice and thick, not like others that the gravy runs like water, oh and their green hot sauce goes great with the chicken, no too hot or spice, has the right amount of kick to it, I give this place five stars, very satisfying and I'm stuffed.

Found it on yelp and this place is great! Ordered mixesd seafood ceviche, chicken combo with white rice and sweet plantain as a side. Ceviche is the best ! Chicken combo has good flavor to it but don't like texture of chicken (very dry). Sweet plantain is superb too. And as it's world cup time they also have 2 tv which is also a plus for sports lover (and of course the channel is speaking Spanish which I knew nothing about..) Keep in mind there is only street parking (quarter for 30 mins is not bad at all) but it may be slightly hard to find a spot on bergebline ave - you may find something the street north to it. Overall it is a good experience- it was slightly pricer than what I thought (given the $ on yelp) but it is still okay and with food portion is large. Will definetly come back to try out more dishes.

Considering the neighborhood this restaurant is in, you can't compare it with high end restaurants. For those people complain about service, this is a local neighborhood kind of place so please lower your expectations. Comfortable seating, flavorful food, what else can you ask for? Both the fried chicken and fish we order wish cook perfectly so they were nice and juicy. 4 stars simply because I don't give out 5 unless it really blows me away. Yeah, I am a fan.

There was also a DJ playing and the music was really good, creating a fun and lively atmosphere. One thing to keep in mind is that they do not have a parking lot, so street parking is the only option. The prices are also on the higher side, but I was still open to seeing if the experience would be worth it. We ordered the picadera Dominicana and the waiter asked if we wanted guacamole. At no point did she mention that it would be an extra charge, so we said yes assuming it was part of the dish. We also ordered a passion fruit sangria pitcher, which was delicious and a good size for sharing. The picadera itself was good and we enjoyed the flavors. Unfortunately, the experience changed when the bill came. Since we were splitting the bill, they charged the appetizer as two separate portions, which ended up costing more. On top of that, we were charged $13 for a very small cup of guacamole, which they labeled on the receipt as "decorative guac" (it was presented as a Dominican flag in the middle). For just an appetizer and a pitcher of sangria, our total came out to $70. What really left a bad impression was when the server brought the bill back and pointed out where the tip section was, as if we didn't know how to read or weren't planning to tip. That felt unnecessary and a bit rude. It's unfortunate because the food and atmosphere had potential, and I likely would have given this place a much better rating if the lack of transparency about the guacamole charge and the comment about the tip hadn't happened.

However, I got the encoca'o mixto de pescado camarón y calamar, and boy was I impressed! Well, now. Finding truly authentic Venezuelan cuisine wasn't on my 2026 bingo card (as the cool…read morekids say), but I'm definitely stamping this square. Dios mio, what a meal! There was not a bad bite to be had. We might've cut the roofs of our mouths with the crisped-to-perfection Patacón, but I don't care--I think all sandwiches should be encased in fried plantain instead of bread. And the succulent pernil filling? Dios mio otra vez! Though, tbf, when is pernil ever a bad choice? Then there was the stuffed-to-the-brim Cachapa filled with carne mechada and Venezuelan cheese. It was enormous. Like, Jesus pulling from the neverending fish basket enormous. It never ended. We had to take it home. But before we did, I practically ate all of the arepa, which was the sweetest, bursting-with-corn-flavor arepa I've ever had outside of South America. It was so good, I practically cried with every bite. Tears of corny joy, mind you. We got an entree of grilled fish (Filete de Pescado a la Plancha), which came with a complimentary side--in our case, arroz amarillo cuz I gotta have my grains. The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside, meltingly tender on the inside. As with everything else, it was also way bigger than it had any right to be. Finally, we ended with what we THOUGHT would be a small item--the Arepa Arcoiris Llanero--but we were mistaken. It was stuffed so full of fresh avocado, shredded chicken, and various veggies that it had to be further encased in a paper wrapper for fear of the arepa wrap giving up on its job. We didn't make it more than a few bites before having to regretfully pack it home, but those few bites were chef's kiss. Venezuela has long been on my bucket list (who doesn't want to see Mount Roraima or Angel Falls?), but until I can get there, I'll be more than happy to "settle" for coming to this beautifully modern paradise of culinary delights. Throw in the huge portions and unbelievably low prices, and it's kind of a no-brainer to make the trip.

The service wasn't too bad, my cup ran empty every now and then but wasn't egregious. Let's talk presentation, the way drinks and food come out is clearly something the head of Maracaibo wanted to place extra detail on. Though the extra presentation is a bit gimmicky, it still got the job done for the most part. The sampler came in a giant Ferris wheel contraption. Not pictured, but my cocktail came with floating cotton candy. Nevertheless, the food was still incredible. The sampler is a must, not only for the presentation, but for the delicious eats that can push you out of your comfort zone. For first time Venezuelan eaters the amount of ways plantain could be prepped and served may be jarring, but I would encourage bravery and just try everything and anything you can on the sampler. Each bite was worth it! Let's talk main entrees, you won't be disappointed by the portions. If you enjoy plantain, definitely go for the patacon - if not, I'd suggest holding off as you may get your fill of it elsewhere. The skirt steak (churrasco) was cooked to my liking, went well in my patacon sandwich. It is massive, I couldn't eat it all - had to take some back. Onto the arepa bowl. Though the contents of the bowl instead could be something you may get elsewhere (like Chipotle for example), it's the addition of the arepa bowl blended with the flavors of everything else and the sauces they drizzle on top that completes this dish. It's unique and it screams for you to taste and pay attention. Overall - great foods, great ambiance, great people. Bit gimmicky but it is what it is.
