    I may have an addiction...
    Ariane B.

I was ecstatic when our first mochi donut place opened in Minnesota!! I initially questioned it being in Dragon Star but now I realize how convenient it is for me! Even after several other mochi donut places popped up in MN, Soga is still my fav. You have the ability to order online and select your time to pick it up.. and when you get there, they are still warm and delicious!! Mochi donuts are a little crispier on the outside and softer/chewier in the inside compared to a normal donut. They are definitely the best eaten fresh. I wanted to introduce people at my workplace to mochi donuts. Almost 500 ordered and devoured in one day. It was a hit! My personal favorite is the kinako almond one (I love almond things) The roasted soybean flour does give it a different texture but the almond slices give it the extra crunch to make it even better. My second fav is strawberry, it's a more tart strawberry. My kids love the matcha (to me tastes like white chocolate with a very tiny matcha taste) and the Fruity Pebble one.

WOW! AMAZING! DELICIOUS! TASTY! ok now that I've gotten all of that out of the way haha This is an absolute must try!! They are located inside an Asian super market which is a ton of fun to shop in! The market alone is worth the trip but these mochi doughnuts will have you begging for more! They are so light and airy! Very delicious! They have many flavors and something for pretty much everyone! I really enjoyed the strawberry, circus cookie and fruity pebbles flavors, but they were all tasty! There is plenty of parking and you order from a kiosk so there really isn't service. But your order is made hot and fresh! Definitely give this place a try! They were also the first in the state to sell mochi doughnuts! So cool :)

Love the new addition for donuts in the Dragon Star market. These donuts have a lovely light crunch on the outside and a chewy delectable inside. Follow the stand's social media, as the four week flavors change on Mondays. The flavors pictured are taro, fruity pebbles, lime, and toasted coconut. Out of these, my fave was the lime, it just had a light bright flavor. There are so many other flavors I want to go back for. I've seen pistachio and matcha that both look very good as well. Lines can be long at peak times, but the wait to get your items after placing an order is fairly quick. You can always wander the market while you wait!

So let me tell you I knew I was going to try something new....something trending and I was pretty sure it would taste good but was I expecting the greatness that came from these donuts!? No, I definitely did not expect to like them the way I do after trying every flavor! The chewy softness is what I always wanted in a donut without it tasting doughy. I loved all the donuts For me I could eat the strawberry ( the strawberry has a tartness that reminds me of the strawberries from the Special K cereal) and toasted coconut all day long. My teenager loved the Taro and matcha My 6 and 2 yr old really enjoyed the original and churro donuts. The black sesame latte is like nothing I've ever tried. I did really like it but it is a drink I would have to be in a mood for because of the prominent sesame seed flavor. Over all my experience was a great one and the donuts were well worth it!

Mochi donuts have been all over my social media for awhile and I am so excited that they are finally in Minnesota! Located inside Dragon Star, these mochi donuts are made fresh in it's own cafe/bakery spot. You can order a whole box or individual ones. The donuts were delicious- not too sweet and doughy but with a nice chew. You can definitely tell it's fried and the sugar one reminded me of a funnel cake. I really liked the matcha one too, which was also light in flavor but it was fun taking the little pieces one by one. In all, i would recommend this spot.

The donuts here are delicious. The flavors change weekly (I think?) and everything I've tried has been delicious! Honestly, just eating the original is good. You can order a box for the most discounted price. Best bang for your buck because you can try all the flavors! They are served warm and best when eaten immediately. If you can't, just warm them for a couple of seconds in the microwave. I love the ringlets because you can tear off a couple of the balls and stuff them into your mouth. They are a different texture from your every day donuts. A bit chewier, probably because of the mochi. But they aren't as chewy as a mochi rice cake. Highly recommend trying if you're a big fan of mochi or donuts.

Mochi donuts have taken the Twin Cities by a storm and I've been so excited to finally try them! Hearing my friends in other states rave about these Japanese style donuts made me even more enthusiastic to check them out. This mochi donut shop is located inside an Asian grocery store. My husband was the one to go pick them up. Ordering online was super easy. The nice thing is that you can select a pick up time for the donuts to be ready by. He ran a few errands and then headed over to Soga and the donuts were ready by the time he got to them. We tried several flavors - Oreo, matcha, tiramisu, and Churro. My absolute favorites have to be the ones dipped in white chocolate - the Oreo and the Matcha. The Oreo tasted just like an Oreo cookie. The matcha didn't taste super bitter like typical matcha. It is was sweetened heavily but still delicious. I loved how unique these donuts were. From the soft, pillowy insides to the crispy outsides and even the fun shape. I'm definitely going to try more of their flavors.

I love this place. My favorite flavor so far are the pistachio and the frutti pebbles. Only wish they flavor their batter like other mochi donut places I've been to. All of their donuts are the same batter with different toppings or glaze. Would love a taro or matcha batter donut. Regardless, I'm very happy a mochi donut place opened in MN.

Located inside the Asian Market near the produce section. Currently they open a 11 am to 5 pm. I was the first person in line when I tried them. I ordered a 2 original, 2 yuzu glazed, 1 churro style and a tiramisu style. I was hoping to get hot and fresh donuts. Not sure if that was what I got. In the 2 minute walk to the car they were not hot nor warm. The flavor was fine though a bit greasy. The shape lends itself to easy small bites. My favorite was the Yuzu glazed. The citrus kick and extra glaze were good. I will give them another try but perhaps during a busier period when hot and fresh is more likely.

It's inside the Dragon Star Oriental Market. I wish the Yelp listings could give these important pieces of information along with the address to help people find these hidden gems. I first encountered mochi donuts just last month, and I'm addicted. I love the paper thin crisp shell, and the fluffy chewy inside. I love that they're like a ring of mini donut holes, so you can pull off just one ball to trade with your friend who got a different flavor. No quibbling who got a bigger piece. Everyone gets exactly one ball. You must try the yuzu slushie drink. It is so much better quality than the slushies at most bubble tea places. There are plenty of pieces of candied yuzu well-distributed throughout the entire slushie. The ice is the perfect consistency, and perfect for sipping while wandering around the huge selection of fun Asian foods at the Dragon Star.

located inside dragon star grocery store (so convenient) these donuts were delicious, appetizing to look at, and came hot and fresh! i found my newest addiction. they also were fairly inexpensive, i would say! they have self kiosks which were very easy to use. ambiance is minimal - simply because it's in a grocery store, but that doesn't matter!

Soga Mochi is located inside of the grocery store. While waiting for my donut order I took a look around the HUGE grocery store and found live crabs, Asian candies and other unique food items. I liked all the donut flavors with Matcha being my favorite. The light matcha flavor in the icing and the warm donut paired perfectly together. Cinnamon sugar was another favorite. I would recommend and will be returning for more! Note: There is no seating so these are donuts best eaten in your car or outside the building.

We ordered mochi doughnuts for delivery through DoorDash and they arrived looking perfect and tasting fresh! We decided to order a half dozen in the flavors fruity pebbles, original, and churro - two of each. My favorite flavor was definitely the churro mochi doughnut, but the fruity pebbles and original flavors were also good. In the past, I have had the same type of doughnuts in Japan and I would say these are comparable enough to that experience. However, I do feel like they should offer more flavors. I would LOVE it if they added matcha or yuzu flavor options - a milk tea could also be good! Ordering through DoorDash was really easy and got to the driver quickly. I hope to visit their location soon and try some of their drinks since it looks like they do have matcha and yuzu flavored drinks! The roasted soybean mochi latte looks really good.

Outside of the building, view looking north - Soga is located inside the grocery store.

I said, oh no, I drove all the way here for them, I ain't leavin, I'll wait. She hollered back to the cooks and asked how long on the donut holes and they said it would be about 10 to 15 minutes. I said I was fine with waiting and I picked out some donuts from the case. Listen. I get it. You want fresh donuts for everyone. You don't want customers waiting even though you have designated dine-in seating that I have seen made use of on a Sunday morning by the 60+ sect with copies of the day's newspaper available to them for reading. But I was nothing if not fully and totally amenable to the prospect of waiting. I drove out here, I used the gas, and frankly, it was all I wanted for my order. I came specifically for the donut holes and the extra donuts were for my bf. It's not to say he doesn't like them, he very much does but he can't get his mitts in fast enough to get them before I gobble them all down like some sort of baked goods hobbit goblin. My Precious(es). I like that the sugar glaze makes them crunch and you can taste the butter. They're light and airy and they make me happy. Anyways. I would like to note that the last time I put an order in ahead of time, it got lost in the shuffle and when I came to pick it up, it wasn't ready and instead of taking the risk and missing out, I just went to the shop and ordered them right there and I figured by doing so close enough to open, they'd have donut holes available. I didn't know they were essentially made to order but I presume since I arrived a half hour after they opened, they surely must have simply run out. To that end, I don't see how it would really matter all that much who buys them and how much of them are bought considering you're still getting paid, whether it's my money or Burt's, our cash is still the same shade of green and still fits the same way in your register. So time ticks on, I'm waiting, another lady purposefully walks in and walks around the counter with all the authority and lateness I would expect from a managerial type. I couldn't make out all of what was said but I did hear, ".....No. She's waiting on a dozen donut holes..." So then I got concerned bc I thought they were gonna cheap me out and only give me a dozen when I paid for 2 so when I got my donut holes I asked for another dozen. The manager possibly owner type takes my box and puts another dozen in. I ask if that makes 3 dozen and she said, "I actually put more than that in there." All of what I'm recounting to you should ultimately be what one might consider a 5 star review but I can't bring myself to do it. I don't know what is going on with customer service in general but I blame the cost of living crisis. It's pushed a bunch of ppl who have no business interacting with customers into jobs where they have to interact with customers and they are doing a horrible job if it. It's not rocket science. Customer service has the easiest formula on earth: 10 foot rule; you see a customer w/in 10ft of you, you say hello and ask them if you can help them with anything. They give you their order You say: Great choice, but it's gonna be about 10 to 15 minutes, are you okay with waiting for the best donuts in the twin cities? Customer says yes. You: Sounds good. Here's a newspaper if you want something to read. End of interaction until you hand me my order. Very simple. What you don't do is try and talk me out of giving you my money. And when I try to give you MORE of my money, you don't respond like I just told you your cat has cancer. You just give me my f*cking donuts and you smile and we f*ck off until I see you again when I want a lard and carbo bomb in 7 months man. Why is this such a difficult concept? I'm not even asking you to be fake nice to be but don't try and weird me out of buying your sh*t. What's the point then? Alternately, when the elderly ladies are working, placing an order has them diving for donuts like they're dodging a Blitzkrieg. It's very unnecessarily chaotic. I would be okay with changing my review if they maybe take it down a notch but I doubt they will.

I'm convinced that if you go there because you want something specific, you simply can't trust them to have it available. Instead of planning a specific visit, the wiser approach would be to give them a look if you're in the area during one of the 12 hours they are open in a given week, and see if you're interested in what they aren't sold out of. They have an indoor counter which you get to via the main entrance on 4th street, and guessing your way through the halls until you find them past that gallery. There is also a seating section which has the ambience of a break room at a DMV. But there is also an outdoor window on Saturday & Sunday, with some seats set up in the alley; that description sounds dicey but it's perfectly fine. My hope is that they improve on some of this to make for a more predictably positive experience!
