Sofritas is awesome you guys! The food here is always delicious. I gave 3 stars because we were excited to try the happy hour and it was probably the lamest happy hour I've ever experienced. SKIP THE HAPPY HOUR TACOS, and get the regular menu tacos. They were so so. The chorizo tasted more like a pork stew/roast than a chorizo. The bean tacos are just black beans. And the beef is just beef. Nothing fancy. Can't beat it for $1.25 each, but I would have rather paid $15 and gotten the fish or shrimp Just my suggestion If you don't believe me just order one to try it, before you order a bunch

I'm so disappointed. My husband and I only get to go to Sofrita's when we're in town a couple times a year. Been going since it opened and was a huge fan of their guacamole, breakfast burrito and chicken salad. Sadly, this is the first time we were let down on all fronts. No more single serving portions of guacamole... $15 was the minimum order. Because my husband doesn't eat it, the single serving was perfect for me. They stopped serving eggs... so no breakfast burrito for him. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and what a disappointment that was. Instead of the usual chunky pieces of fresh chicken, I got hard pieces of old chicken that tasted like it had been sitting in the refrigerator for a week. The Mayo dressing was even broken down to nothing but oil. I couldn't eat it and sent it back. We left and ate elsewhere. I felt bad for the server because none of it was his fault. But so disappointed as we looked so forward to this for weeks. What happened to this place?? Two stars only because the Service was fine and the lemonades were delicious. But I hope they fix the food and menu problems.

Cute spot right downtown fountain hills. The food is delicious, good options. We got the Brussel sprouts for an ap, the bruschetta board, the shrimp tacos and the pork shoulder. As noted in the other reviews, the service was slow. But the woman was sweet and seemed overwhelmed with her tables. We sat outside enjoyed the beautiful night and it was not a problem. The yummy food was worth it but not the place if you are in a rush

We were on the way home from a day trip and decided to stop somewhere new for an early dinner. My husband chose Sofrita in Fountain Hills. First and foremost, the location is quite nice .. the street that the restaurant is on has plenty of parking, and it very much reminded me of Palm Springs. The big fountain is just down the road and a big playground for kids. There was plenty of outdoor seating at the restaurant as well as some tables inside. The weather was wonderful, so we dined outside. Their menu is simple - tacos, salads, a few breakfast-all-day items, and a few appetizers. I got a mango margarita to drink which was good. For dinner we ordered the papas del padre (potato wedges) which came with mustard aioli and chipotle mayo; I really liked this appetizer. The potatoes were fried perfectly and the dipping sauces were both nice. My husband got the breakfast burrito which was a good size with plenty of filling; he liked it. The fish tacos I ordered were pretty mediocre; the fish itself was fried well and was very light, but the taco was very dry. It didn't have a lot of flavor and could've benefited with some sort of sauce on top. Service was good. Our server was friendly and attentive. Overall, given the price of the food and quality, it was just ok. Not on the top of my list to come back to.

Fun spot! The service was quick and the patio seating was very nice. We got lucky and went during a slow Sunday. Their lemonades were delicious! It's always a slight bummer to me when you have to pay for chips and salsa, but we did and enjoyed the flavor of the chips. It's about $7 a basket. The salsa was good too but could use a little more spice. We ordered the shrimp tacos (so good!) and the firehouse fish tacos. It was pretty tasty! I'll have to be back to try the bruschetta everyone else mentions. But overall a fun spot near the fountain!

The Papas Verde had an addicting tang from the tomatillo salsa but were brilliantly balanced out by the chorizo and asadero cheese. The shaved brussel salad could have used a little more date and chile to balance out the vinegar but I was pleased either way. The elote was probably the only thing that fell short execution-wise as I didn't get much of the chorizo flavor, but the cook on the corn itself was perfect. The Gambas al Ajillo are absolutely a must-get. Juicy, sweet shrimp with an unexpected kick from the butter sauce and unsurprisingly great bread from Noble. The Tlayuda was a little heavy on the lettuce, but the smoked pork and bean puree combo were so flavorful that it helped balance out the richness with texture and freshness. I also loved the crispy contrast from the fried tortilla. We ended with the Concha and Mango Sticky Rice ice cream which sounded pretty simple but was quite impressive in its own right. The ice cream was a touch too frozen, but it ended up working out well with the crunchy cornflake coating and lightly warmed, pillowy concha to make a really satisfying ending to our meal. Service was excellent and the patio was well-lit and had heaters ready for colder weather. Vecina is on the pricier side for sure, but you will not be disappointed.

Saudero tacos (a brisket confit suadero tacos with a chile jam, aguacate, serrano cruda, toasted sesame, fresnos and micro cilantro) We sat on the patio for a wonderful AZ spring evening. We both love Latin and Asian cuisine so the menu seemed to fit our palate Was seated pretty quick and they handed my gf a rose. Got me extra brownie points for sure (told her I arranged that jokingly lol) The vibe is awesome a dimly lit jungle vibe for the Peruvian inspiration. Good music not too loud like other "high end" spots in Scottsdale that try to do too much. They also had a fire performer in the middle of our dinner which added to the ambiance. We sat inside but the outdoor seating also looked nice. During the day this place would have great views of the golf course I imagine. Onto the food, oysters were great quality, fresh but still briny. Had a pineapple mignonette that complimented well. My gf doesn't like oysters but these were small enough for her to enjoy with the added sweetness. Calamari was also solid, had a great chipotle aioli and ginger scallion oyster sauce on the side. The salmon ceviche was a bit of a let down. More like a crudo if you ask me, but still great flavors. Cocktails were great too! The corn mezcal was super unique. Not the biggest mezcal person but it sounded too good to pass up and definitely glad I tried it. My gf got the pisco sour and it was perfectly tart but refreshing. For mains we got the Lomo Saltado and Salmon. Both were great, Lomo Saltado was super tender and had great flavors. Same with salmon, nothing too unique but still on point Overall all the food was very well seasoned and flavorful. Nothing lacked. Cocktails were good. That being said, service was very slow and the food was lackluster. I had the recommended pork and scallops, my wife decided on the lobster fried rice. The lobster fried rice was better, but small portions and a very small lobster serving made us wonder how this dish cost $49. We hoped me might finish with a dessert to pick up the mood after a lackluster meal. The salted carmel brownie we decided on wasn't great; tasteless and bland, it just wasn't worth it. All in all, for a two person, $300 meal, there are much better options. Would not repeat and certainly would not recommend.

I found a spot in the surface lot right across the street from one of the most popular Mexican restaurants in town. Ambiance (4/5): The Mission is a nice restaurant. There's a small patio in front and a large patio out back. Sit at the outdoor patio if you can pull it off. Inside is great too, and there's nice artwork both inside and outside. The only issue? It's a popular restaurant and they try to pack in as many people as possible so space is at a premium. That also means that if you come at a peak hour, like we did, it's going to be pretty loud. Service (4/5): There was a wait when we arrived and the bar was full (first come, first served). Luckily, a group was leaving right when I lingered by the bar and we were able to snag the seats. The bartender did a pretty good job taking care of us. There was room for improvement as far as her efficiency and checking in, but overall, given how busy the restaurant was, pretty good. Drinks (4.5/5): The Mission has an interesting cocktail list. As you'd expect, it's tequila-focused but there's a good variety. You'll find creative cocktails which is always big in my book. Plus margaritas like prickly pear margaritas. I went with the correndo na chuva which has cachaca, passion fruit, lemongrass, sherry, and lime juice. Cachaca is a Brazilian liqueur which you don't see in many places so this was a treat. It was a refreshing cocktail. Lots of spicy cocktails are available, too. Food (4/5): While the brunch menu is pretty extensive, I think there's a clear winner: the all-you can eat whole roasted pig out. For $19, and only on Saturdays and Sundays during brunch, it's a steal of a deal. You get pineapple roasted shoulder and pork belly carnitas tacos served with your choice of one of five sauces. There's a little buffet stand where a member of their staff will make the tacos for you. I had about 10 of them and they hit the spot! Nice variety of sauces so I tried all of them except for one (two spicy for my blood) and you can request flour tortillas if you prefer that over the corn tortillas they have. Between the two proteins, I thought the pork shoulder was more flavorful and tender. It's no surprise that The Mission Old Town has some of the most Yelp reviews in town. It's a popular restaurant. Just make sure to make a reservation or stop by outside of peak hours or there's a good chance you'll have a wait.

I point this out because some places don't have that authentic feel when they describe their location as "authentic" We were greeted immediately by the hostess who was extremely kind. When he asked where we wanted to sit, we opted for the patio. It looks like an enclosed patio from the front but it was so nice inside of it. The back portion is open for the fresh air. It was a semi chilly morning so they did have heaters out and the hostess said if we wanted we could have the closest to us turned on. But we didn't because they had one above our table that made the patio environment so pleasant. Daniella, our server, immediately brought chips and salsas and water to our table. 3 different styles, guacamole, mild, and spicy. My favorite were the guacamole and the mild. Tasted fresh and flavorful. The chips were really good and tasted so fresh. *tip - ask for a spoon if you want to add salsa on your food later as one is not offered. We ordered the green chili relleno con pollo with rice and beans and the carne asada tacos with rice and beans. My order was the carne asada tacos, the tacos come wrapped which was nice to keep them warm. When I opened one up it had a larger amount of onions than expected and not so much carne asada. Which was a disappointment. So basically eating tortilla with onion and a sprinkle of meat. I could only eat one. My rice was crisper than my friend's rice, almost like it sat under the warmer too long. Disappointing. Now my beans, those were delicious. My friend said the food was good, the relleno was not stuffed (which is usually how they usually come) and it was just sliced open and laid on top of the chicken. But the black beans on the plate my friend really enjoyed. And the rice on my friend's plate was not crispy and looked like it was freshly made. Our servings of rice were definitely not from the same pot/pan. The environment was nice, our server was ok, she got busy as more people started to come, and the food was good enough but for what I paid for my plate ($20) I'd rather not have crispy rice. It's a nice place and I will go and try it again. Hopefully my food will be better.
