I pass by Sofra every time I go to grad school at night and I always think to myself "Oh wow, they have a parking lot. If I ever have time before class I am definitely stopping there." Well Yelp, today was the day. I got out of work early and was heading to school and had time before my class to finally stopped by. Parking lot is tight, but great that they had the lot. Walked in there was 2 people in front of me. They were served fast. I got up to the counter and ordered a chai tea. I asked the woman at the register what the easiest thing to eat in the car was and she suggested the lamb shawarma with pickled cabbage and tahini yogurt. Sounded good so I went for it. The lamb shawarma came out quick and hot. The wrap was so flaky and delicate. The meat was plentiful and the yogurt was flavorful. I waited and waited for my chai tea.. no new customers came in, the staff was talking. Finally they realized I was still there and asked if I was all set. When I told them I was still waiting for my chai tea. They quickly apologized and made it right away. The woman at the cash register also gave me a piece of tahini shortbread for forgetting to make my chai tea. The thoughtfulness of customer service was appreciated. At this point. I need to let you all know that when I ordered the chai tea latte and I had initially regretted it. I'm a chai tea latte snob. I never find one good. I usually end up taking 2 sips and throwing it out in disappointment from wasting my money. Sofra made me see angels when I took my first sip for their chai tea. Yelpers, it was the best chai tea I ever had. The right amount of spice, the right amount of creaminess, the right amount of sweetness. Absolute heaven and worth the wait that came with them forgetting it. I'm happy I stopped by. I can't wait to hopefully make it a more common place to stop by. I loved everything I ate. The shop was clean and cozy. I would love to eat in the cafe next time and try all their meze bar because they looked so good! read more

Sofra's food is amazing (love the mezzes, the schwarma, the hummus with lamb) BUT I recently moved back to Boston and was extremely disappointed to learn that they no longer serve their warm, fluffy pita. It has been replaced by a cold, generic bread that is nowhere near as good as the pita (and honestly sort of ruins the mezzes, my favorite thing there!). Sofra also has a major seating problem. It's a small restaurant, which is fine, but they should ask customers not to save seats before they have ordered (this is a pet peeve of mine, and one that Sofra patrons regularly violate -- often saving seats for 30+ minutes before ordering while waiting for people!!). All Sofra would need to do is put up a few signs asking people to order before they sit, which plenty of cafes do successfully. Also, the vast majority of the patrons seem to sit at their tables for hours after finishing their meals. Not sure there is much that Sofra can do about this, but it makes it challenging for people to find seating to eat (literally only need to sit for 15 minutes to eat my meal, but even that is a challenge, and nearly impossible if there are more than 2 in your party). I used to overlook the cramped / impossible seating and the challenging parking enough to go to Sofra with regularity, but without the pita, I am less likely to make the trip (and my husband has emphatically declared that he will not be returning until the pita is brought back!). read more

Basically all the food here is great. It's hard to point to a bad or disappointing item in my experience. The parking, seating, internal space and prices .. not so much. If not for these three knocks , it would be a solid 5 stars. If you're on foot and price isn't a worry , easily a 5 star spot. I'm not sure why they run a usually empty wine shop next doors, but it seems to me that the space could be used to seat more customers more comfortably. Not sure the parking issue really can be fixed. As for the prices , they're not cheap but the quality is quite excellent and for Boston prices they're not sky high . read more

I came here with my mom for a light lunch. We ordered baba ganouj, muhammara, pita and crackers to go along with our dips and a piece of Künefe. The baba ganouj was pretty incredible. Because it had not been blended to a uniform paste (like most other baba ganouj I have had) you could really appreciate all the different elements of the dip (the caramelized onions, eggplant, peppers etc.) which I really liked. The muhammara was drizzled and heavily flavored with pomegranate molasses which gave it a great tangy flavor. The crackers were made in house and had a nice sweetness. What I really want to comment on is the superb quality of the künefe. The künefe at Sofra was the best rendition of this dessert I have had since I was eating it in Turkey. Even though the künefe wasn't hot (like I usually desire it to be), the sweet cheese filling still had a great texture and flavor and there was a perfect amount of simple syrup that had been poured over the whole piece. I would absolutely return to Sofra just for the künefe. It is special to find this dessert in Boston! read more

Curb appeal: This came cafe came via a friend's recommendation. We met here on over the weekend for brunch. Upon arriving, I found parking to be difficult, however, this is to be expected, so don't let this hinder the experience. Once I finally found a spot to park (2 blocks away). I walked to find the line nearly out of the door. Again, not a concern for me, as I was with good company. The food: An egg sandwich ($6.50) and a coffee ($3) was I opted for. The sandwich was amazing. The egg was cooked to perfection. However, this tiny sandwich was definitely overpriced. This was not enough to hinder my return for an afternoon meal. This time I opted for a spinach falafel ($9) and a Turkish coffee ($2.75). The falafel was absolutely amazing! I highly recommend this wrap. The beet tzatziki wonderful! This coming from a guy that doesn't do beet anything! The overall experience was what would be a expected at a local hot spot. The owner is on to a something and it shows with the lack of parking and the lines. The lines do tend to move fast, but this does create a bottleneck in the kitchen. This appears to be best suited for parties of 2 or less. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, which is tight. I do recommend this place for the well put together flavors, though I feel on the pricey side. I don't recommend this place if you get h-angry and lack patience. Sofra is so good - I live nearby so I come often. I've never not enjoyed their food or coffee. They have their own parking as well as street parking for convenience. The only downside really is that it's so small. Due to the size, the line is almost always out the door and seating is hard to get. I want to recommend it to people, but I also want less people in the line lol. Seriously it's such a cute spot. I'm in school and have very little $$, so mum decided to treat me to a delicious brunch. Since my sister lives nearby in Belmont, I have been here so many times over the years and can't believe I have never done a review. I usually only do one when something is really good or really bad lol. This place is definitely the former. They do everything right here which is why no matter what time I come here, it's always busy. I always order the chicken shawarma. It's an explosion of flavors and textures. I do mix it up with the desserts but my favorite is probably the baklava. It's not overly sweet like other places. Everything here is super fresh and overall just good quality. The casual/take out sister of Sarma (another place I love), even though the line is long it does move fast. They have a small parking lot and there's street parking. I've been fortunate in that I've never had problems getting parking or a table here which can be tough. As popular as this spot has always been, I have noticed that it now seems to have attracted local tweens/teens who do the Starbucks thing. They buy food or a beverage and after everything has been consumed, they still hang out for hours regardless of how many people are looking for a table. Nevertheless, if you like Sarma then you should eat here. If you like good quality food then you should eat here. I really, really wanted to love Sofra. As a Turk, nothing makes my heart happier than discovering a good Turkish restaurant. I came here with my father on a Saturday morning and we both ordered Turkish breakfast. The restaurant held a big crowd of people, which normally serves as a reassuring sign that people like the food. Though I felt slightly miffed that we weren't able to eat in, we ordered our food to go and headed back to the hotel. We excitedly opened our breakfast boxes and discovered a most disappointing sight: a few sliced cucumbers, one lone egg with a kunefe-like exterior, two tofu-appearing cubes (which turned out to be fried feta), a red paste, and a creamy lump that tasted like mayonnaise. After having an uber healthy lunch, which comprised of a soup and a lettuce-veggie-california wrap, I mentioned that I want to "check out" this bakery. There, I got a spinach and 3-cheese flat bread (to share), which was delicious and fresh, and a date serpentine (pastry), which complimented the coffee well. If the breakfast serving hour had not passed, I would've probably ordered the big Turkish breakfast, with the pastry, and with coffee too. I'd been wanting to go to this place forever. I finally went with a friend for brunch; it's a cute little cafe out in Cambridge and had plenty of seating when we went, though it began to get crowded really quickly. Everything sounded good, but when I asked the waiter what gluten free options there were, he said, "Basically nothing. Well, maybe the shashuka. And I guess the granola." I asked if he could make anything gluten free or do substitutes, and he said no. Basically some of the worst service I've experienced. I ended up getting the granola with labeneh and my friend got the avocado french toast; she got a latte and I got a coffee. You order at the front and pick up your order from the front; our drinks were quick but our food took awhile. My issue with my food was that there was literally 1 scoop of labeneh and a ton of granola. Confused as to how they expected that ratio to work? I ended up buying another carton of labeneh just so I could finish my granola... My friend said that her avo french toast was good though; and I did enjoy my coffee. However, as cute as this place is, the fact that the cashier was so rude and that they clearly do not cater to gluten free people is a disappointment, especially when I really wanted to like this place. read more

There is nothing like Sofra in the Boston/Greater Boston area. It's a bit of a hike north, but so worth it. Seriously, hitchhike, ride a jet pack, dog-sled, anything! You must try Sofra. Everything comes from the genius behind Oleana, Ana Sortun, and the food is of the same Mediterranean/Turkish-inspired flavor. Just more affordable. For lunch, we got the chicken and lamb schwarma pitas. I've had schwarmas everywhere, but not prepared like this. The pita was perfectly toasted to a crisp, the meat was tender and flavorful, and the vegetables and tahini that accompany it are out of this world. One of the most satisfying lunches I've had in a while. And I generally don't care for pita sandwiches. We also got a ridiculous assortment of pastries. I swear, I went up to the counter to order just 1 or 2, but they all looked so gorgeous, so exotic with unusual names, that I found myself literally just pointing to one after another and going, "That one. I can't pronounce it but I want it." So get the chocolate baklava (it's very sweet though), Persian donuts, kunefi and coconut macaroons. Oh foodie gods, I am drooling just thinking about them. Sofra is definitely the affordable if less conveniently located alternative to Oleana. I plan to dog-sled back many times. read more

What a treasure . I just happened upon SOFRA as i loved the retro architecture and struck gold! The food is REAL, delicious & the cakes on offer are sublime. The Moussaka is the best I've ever had - not huge but the flavor is amazing. The salad with strawberries that were bursting with flavor, fresh & crunchy & the roasted spice cauliflower & kale was another stand out . It reminded me of my favorite cafe in Manly, Sydney ig: @oramanly full of goodness & nature's rich flavors I like it so much i returned the next day for lunch. Came here on Saturday noon and this is place is bustling. There are couple seats indoor, but the space is a bit cramped. There are more seats outdoors though. Between me and my bf, we got a chicken shawarma, cold meze platter, moussaka, and Turkish coffee and orange blossom lemonade. The chicken shawarma was probably the best I've ever had, the pita bread outside is so crispy and the garlicky sauce outside is amazing. The cold meze is another favorite of mine. I loved the muhamara, whipped feta, and asparagus with chickpea. Muhamara is a little sweet and the blend of spices really work well together. The whipped feta doesn't taste really like feta, but it's so creamy and yummy!! The orange blossom lemonade is also very good, there's a subtle hint of orange taste, and it's very fragrant. Is the food delicious? Yes. Is it worth the lines, the price or the headache? NO. It's so crowded, all the time. The layout just isn't meant for the large volume of people they typically have. There's no place to stand as you wait for your food. And oh boy, do you have to wait for your food. Even calling your order in ahead of time won't save you much. I've always felt that they were overpriced and I dealt with it because the flavors were so wonderful. But a mezze platter with 5 (small) dips that only come with THREE crackers was the last straw for me. Come on Sofra, you know that dip to cracker ratio is ridiculous. It forced me to go back in the long line and buy another order of crackers, which also turned out to be a rip off. Grr! The sweetened Turkish cafe au lait was pretty good, but I have nothing to base it off. We will definitely be back! We were cold, tired, and hungry from our long walk and were eager for some good Mediterranean food. We ordered the crème brûlée pastry, I Turkish delight that went to breast cancer support fund, Red Dragon ice tea, and the Sofra Cocoa Rose hot tea. The crème brûlée pastry was by far the best thing. It was a good-sized to share and the right amount of sweetness. The ice tea was a little bit too sweet but the hot tea was bitterer so it balanced out. The Turkish delight was small and definitely wasn't magical like the one you see in the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe--but the proceeds went to support breast cancer research so I guess that's pretty magical too. Seating is very limited and the table space is small; however when I went there in the mid to late afternoon time we were still able to get a table right away. I find Sofra to be a place that I want to like because there is such a dearth of bakeries of this type, that the changing items they put out continue to SOUND so good that I am allured to go try them out, especially when I can't travel to the actual countries where the insporation of these pastry items come from due to Covid. However, the execution, more often than not, is average at best. I have finally been disappointed enough times now that I would not be making such attempts going forward. Tried the strarberry pistachio bostok, oatmal cream biscuit, and date tumeric cinnamon roll recently, and 2 out of these 3 items are below average. The biscuit and the roll both had an icing - one cream cheese and the other supposedly butter milk - that is overly sweet and has no depth in its taste (the Georgetown upcake version of the cream cheese icing, for example, is so much better as it's rich, not overpowering and enchances the overall taste of the item as oppposed to blinding your tastebud). The biscuit and the roll are also both so extremely sweet even without the icing that I can't taste the fig and tumeric at all in the roll, and the biscuit is also sweet that I can't taste anything - it might as well be anything I picked up from an below average supermarket bakery. The bostok is the piece that I'd give a 4 star to, although by no means was it so great that I felt wowed. So, two fails and one worth 4 stars out of 3 items. This overall 3 star rating is already a bit generous. It's too bad that a good number of their items have no substance to back up their alluring names. I wish they would just focus on a smaller # of items that they could really make well so I know that whatever I order, I could expect good quality (I don't have to worry about quality whenver I go to places like Cafe Madeline and Clear Flour, for example). read more

I love eating here. The food is amazing. I don't love waiting in line and stalking people til they leave to get a seat. I try to go here off hours (after 2pm weekdays, late or really early weekends) if I can, though that strategy is employed by others. I recently found a better option- going to Sarma in Somerville before or at 6pm. They have similar food and a lot more seating. If you must, try the: flatbreads (lamb is my fav), meze dips with crick cracks (toddler speak for crackers), earthquakes, shakshuka (eggs with stuff, for breakfast only), a drink I think is called the Red Dragon or something similar, and coffee. The to go dinners in the cold case are also worth checking out. read more

You won't be let down by the food. The parent company is Oleana (another place I recommend for Mediterranean flare). Sofra is more of a causal dining spot. Great desserts and meals for on the go too. I always get the spinach falafel flatbread. It comes with a gorgeous magenta whipped beet spread. They also make great basil lemonade and strong iced coffee. This place gets very crowded and seats fill up fast. I recommend coming off hours. Sofra is not a restaurant but you can grab a table either indoor or outdoor which is a nice plus. My one complaint: When you order a tray of five dips, you have to pay extra for the crackers or the soft bread - which they call pita. From a business standpoint I get it, but let us enjoy your bread. We will order more of the amazing dips :) read more

Okay, let's get down to business. I've seen this place so many times for so many years, but I've never stepped foot into it until today. And I am glad I did. Walking in, the spices already hit you, and it's a warm good-feeling kind of smell. And since it's Sunday, everyone was out for brunch, and it was super packed. Seating inside was crowded, and they already had outdoor seating out. Definitely keep a look out for a seat! Got the Rooibos Tea Latte, and OH MY GOODNESS, it was so good that I had to get another one to-go. You could get it sweetened or unsweetened. The Shakshuka was surprisingly filling for a simple dish, and it went really well with the Sausage Pita as an extra dipping sauce. The Tahini-Brown Butter Donut is the next best thing, though it is pretty heavy when you pick it up. It's stuffed with an amazing filling, I believe to be cream cheese? with other flavoring. One of my favorite places in Boston now :) Sofra is one of those rare place where almost everything on their menu is very appealing and delicious. When I visited, I actually had a hard time ordering since everything looked so good. I ended up ordering the homemade Chai, the spinach falafel, and the pistachio bird nest. I don't normally order caffeinated drinks, but the Chai was the creamiest, most delicious Chai I've ever had. The spinach falafel was also amazing (highly recommend for first-time goers), but the pistachio bird nest was a bit different from my expectations. I sort of expected a baklava kind of texture with the bird nest (nuttiness in every bite), but the bird nests are more like miniature pistachio pies in that the nuts and the pastry edge don't really "mix". I still liked it, but would probably opt for another pastry next time. read more

Heaven in this vegetarian's mouth. Came here for brunch and was delighted by what I found. Many veggie options on brunch menu. I went for the Turkish breakfast (A MUST!) and my roommate helpfully suggested I get a fresh PITA with that: best decision ever. The Turkish breakfast includes veggies, cheese, tomato jam, a delicious thick yogurt and an artful egg. This was wonderful with the pita pairing. My roommate got the parfait which was the biggest surprise to me! They keep the parfaits ready to go for take out in their fridge and when I tasted it I loved the mix of the SUPER RICH yogurt and the texture of the grain they mix in with the fruit. What a delicious corner cafe!! This little Mediterranean cafe reminded me of Tangerinos in Charleston due to their Argentinian music and delicious Mediterranean snacks. They offered Turkish coffee, regular (delicious) coffees and teas (iced as well as hot). Pastries that were Mediterranean and a wide array of middle eastern snacks ranging from baba ganoush to lamb, spicy whipped feta to cauliflower/brussel sprouts and pitas. They had mezza snack trays and entrees. I sampled a 5 mezza plate with a delicious variety of hummus-style scoops and I had the warm pita. Other options (for the gluten free) were fresh vegetables and crackers (not gluten free). I also had a decaf cappucino which was divine. My girlfriend had a similar sample plate and a dragon tea (yummy!!) -- j also had the earthquake cookie which was soooooo good. OMG don't miss it. Only drawback: limited seating and I didn't check wifi. If I were there alone I would've checked to be sure it was a great writing spot as well (the ambiance called for it). This place is my new favorite bakery/cafe in the Boston area. Came in here on a Tuesday afternoon and it wasn't crowded at all. We had this blueberry brioche pastry with sweet cheese that was delicious. We also had muhammara with crick cracks - so much flavor in just one bite. The spinach falafel is a MUST. So light and fresh with a ton of flavor. The beet tzaziki on it is so good that we took some to go. We also really loved the stuffed lentil flatbread. This place is just down the street from my partner and I. We frequent this place once to twice a month. Usually for dinner. Our favorites include the Moussaka, I get the lamb shawarma, and he likes the chicken shawarma. The Moussaka is baked and served in a mini cast iron pan. There's something comforting about that. The lamb is shredded, tender and infused with amazing flavors. It's wrapped with pickled cabbage and tahini in a warm toasted flat bread...mmm...mmm...mmm, and served with yogurt on the side. Other things to taste is the Turkish breakfast, and Spanakopita. Okay who am I kidding!? Taste all of their pastries. :) Avoid going during peak hours. This is a small space, inside and out. Get there before or after the crowds, you'll be able to enjoy it that much more. read more

Food was just okay...and very overpriced! I tried two of their mezzes- the babaganoush lacked any flavor whatsoever but the beet tzatziki was delicious. The steak pressed pita was good, too. The desserts I tried were mediocre - the tahini shortbread was so soft it completely crumbled practically into a powder. The chocolate baklava was dripping in oil. Not my favorite. read more

The food is delicious. The staff is also very friendly and courteous. The frozen entrees are good, they heat up well.

As an Armenian American from SC, we don't even know that restaurants in the united states make this type of food outside NYC and Cali. With that said this was a great surprise to stumble upon this place one Saturday Morning. The food was authentic and almost tasted as good as the cheese boreks my grandma used to make back in the day. I would highly recommend going here for lunch, however go early or late because it's a cluster in there on the weekends! Minus one star for the crowds... maybe 5 stars to go? read more
