Where do I start with these people. Long story short even before I had an issue with them billing…read moreme several times after I asked to take my credit card off file they treated us as if we were going to break their equipment. Every time a weight hit the floor I would get an evil stare and then eventually got reprimanded. It's gym not a museum right lol? And no I wasn't throwing weights around being disrespectful. I was down in Florida in July 2025 for 2 1/2 weeks and wanted to try this place because it was new. So I bought a one month membership for myself and my wife and then asked to freeze the account until we come back down to Florida since we live in New Jersey. We did everything through a gentlemen named Mac who understood our situation that we wouldn't be coming back down until the next year. I got billed the next month accidentally and he refunded me and apologized. At that time I asked him to take my card off file. Fast forward to January and I've been getting billed the last 3 months after several phone calls with the owner and emails sent without a response. Today was the last straw as I called AGAIN to have my card removed and to be refunded. I mentioned that I'm going to have my bank reverse the charges and he started calling me a jack ass and saying why don't I come and say this to his face because he felt "threatened" and will sue me if I do it. I can't say enough awful things about the people here except for Mac who actually doesn't even work there anymore probably because he was nice. The fact that I asked several times for the card to be taken off file and it hasn't been is severely alarming. Anyone that is traveling and thinking about Joining beware. They told me something completely different than what the contract said. Stupid me for taking their word for it and not reviewing the contract. Not keeping your word says a lot about a business. The gym is beautiful though.

Hands down the BEST GYM I've EVER been to. I'm not saying this to advertise or help make sales:…read morethis place is just that good. This gym has a machine for every single muscle group, no joke. You will definitely walk out sore in the best way. The open windows and natural lighting keep it from feeling like a dungeon, and honestly make you want to work out longer. I've been to a lot of gyms, and this one is absolutely top-tier. The staff is amazing too--there's a lady who walks around cleaning like it's her own home. The place is spotless. And the crowd? Only serious gym rats show up, which keeps the environment focused and legit. Those super low-cost gyms that take anyone just don't compare--they lose that true workout atmosphere. I love my gym!!! Now I just need to find a sauna to complete the setup!

Been an on-and-off LA Fitness member for over a year now, and after reading literally thousands of…read morereviews across Yelp, Google, Reddit, and everywhere else, here's the honest, no-BS summary that matches what pretty much everyone says: It's the ultimate "you get what you pay for" gym. For the price (still one of the cheapest national chains with month-to-month options), you get a ridiculous amount of locations, decent equipment variety, a pool, basketball courts, and free group classes. If you just want to show up, lift, do some cardio, maybe swim or shoot hoops, and leave, it does the job better than most places in this price range. Off-peak hours can actually feel halfway decent plenty of machines, shorter waits, and the vibe is tolerable. Now the part literally everyone complains about (because it's true): Cleanliness is a coin flip. Some days it's fine, other days the locker room smells like regret and the equipment is sticky. Stuff breaks and stays broken forever saunas, hot tubs, half the cable machines, you name it. Towel service? Good luck. Bring your own or prepare to air-dry. Staff ranges from genuinely cool humans to people who act like you're bothering them by existing. Canceling or fixing billing issues? People write horror stories that could be Netflix documentaries. Read the contract twice and screenshot everything. Bottom line: If your expectations are "affordable big-box gym with tons of locations and I'm not a neat freak," you'll be perfectly happy and probably give it 4 stars. If you want spotless, high-end, white-glove service, you're shopping in the wrong aisle go pay triple for Equinox or Lifetime. For the money, it's still a solid 3 stars. Wipe down your own stuff, go at weird hours, and you'll survive just fine. Millions of us do.

I simply thought from looking at this gym as I passed by... it's gotta be better than the ratings…read moreposted... NOPE---where are the wipes to clean equipment between uses and to cap it all off---hot water seems like a reasonable expectation??? Next visit I will head to the new Crunch fitness that I saw on social media opening 3/31/26. This place is expansive but gross.

Planet Fitness started in 1992, when founders Michael and Marc Grondahl purchased a struggling…read moreGold's Gym franchise in Dover, New Hampshire. They eventually closed that original location and opened a gym called Coastal Fitness. They added a third partner, former CEO Chris Rondeau. In 2002, they purchased the rights to the name Planet Fitness from Rick Berks who had started his own Planet Fitness gym in 1993 in Sunrise, Florida. He got the name from his daughter's school project, Fitness Planet. Today Planet Fitness is chain of gyms with memberships as low as $10 a month. It has more than 7 million members and is one of the fastest-growing health club franchises in the U.S. The company has around 2,600 clubs making it one of the largest fitness club franchises by number of members and locations. The company majority is owned by private-equity firm TSG Consumer Partners. This Planet Fitness location is in the Planet Fitness Plaza on Powerline Road in Pompano. This isn't my usual gym so I enjoyed checking out another Planet Fitness to compare. Pompano seemed larger and more open than my gym. The equipment was set up in similar locations so I could find what I wanted. Some of the machines that get backed up in my local gym were more available here. They also had four of my beloved iFIT bikes compared to the two my gym has. The only thing I didn't like was it felt very hot in here. I would have appreciated lowering the AC. Like my gym, the Pompano location is also 24 hours which I love. Sometimes I like to come very late on the weekends when the gym is empty so I can feel I little more free in trying new things. This location also has the Black Card area for the $25 a month members with tanning beds, hydro beds, and massage chairs. I barely have enough time to work out never mind lie around so this has not been an appealing upgrade for me. The locker room has showers but that is another feature that I don't care to use. Overall I have been happy with Planet Fitness. I have been going on a regular basis for a few months now and can see the change in my body. The hours are great and I can pop in for as little or as long as I have. The machines are easy to use and they have videos on You Tube and QR codes on the machines so you know how to use them. There are so many ways to work out that I am never bored. I try to learn a new machine each time I come and I incorporate both cardio and weights into my workouts. Whatever part of your body that you want to work on, there are numerous ways to get there. Best of all this gym is not intimidating for beginners but is equally great for the hard core fitness fanatic. People stick to their own thing and you can feel comfortable doing yours in the "Judgement Free Zone." You can download the Planet fitness app that makes check in a breeze, tracks your progress and workouts, and where you can even find home workouts. The app also lets you know how crowded the gym is. I like that it works with the Apple Health app on my watch. So far this is the longest fitness routine I have stuck to and it has seeped into other areas of my life like a better diet and more regular visits to the doctor to keep up with my health goals and to think it all started with the first time I stepped through the door of a Planet Fitness.

When I went back to the desk and said I would like to try it, I was told (with her mouth full) to download the app. The service was terrible in there for cell usage so I asked if there was WiFi, she then said with her mouth still full and spitting food and pointing towards something that I couldn't understand to the wall. There was nothing there. The WiFi info was on the desk. I tried to connect to that and that didn't work. I was so frustrated by how rude the woman was and that I was receiving no help that I left. What she did was disgusting and beyond rude. It's no problem, I am giving my money to Apex Gym.

I need to share what happened at this gym because the level of disrespect and neglect I experienced…read moreand witnessed is truly alarming. First, my brother was banned over a simple declined membership payment. Any responsible gym would handle that by updating the card or rerunning it. Instead, they turned it into a punishment. Then today, ON THANKSGIVING, I walked in just to pay a guest pass for him. A two-minute transaction turned into one of the most unprofessional encounters I've ever had. The owner didn't greet me, didn't acknowledge me, didn't offer even basic courtesy. The energy was cold and hostile from the moment I stepped inside. To make matters worse, the owner was behind the desk on the phone, speaking in a tone and attitude that made it obvious the conversation was about us. I couldn't hear the exact words, but anyone standing there would have felt the same disrespect. On a day meant for gratitude and kindness, the hypocrisy was unbelievable. And that's just the customer service. Let's talk about the facility itself, because that's an issue no one should ignore: Dumbbells constantly left loose or in unsafe positions Multiple areas of the gym that feel hazardous and poorly maintained Bathrooms that are consistently dirty, foul-smelling, and visibly neglected Mold or what appears to be mold that was literally painted over No visible janitorial presence mirrors, floors, equipment, and high-touch areas look unclean People often walking barefoot around the gym, which raises serious hygiene concerns I even had a friend who picked up a foot infection after training here (he didn't report it, but the environment speaks for itself) A gym should promote health not put people at risk or make them feel unwelcome. Another thing that stood out to me over time is the way the owner interacts with the younger, more timid employees. The dynamic feels uncomfortable and one-sided, almost like they're afraid to speak up or push back about anything. It creates a work environment that feels pressured and unbalanced, and as a customer, it's very noticeable. A gym should empower its staff not make them look tense or uneasy. But what truly shocked me were the notes and signs around the gym. They're written in a tone that feels harsh, confrontational, and almost angry..the kind of wording that makes members feel uncomfortable instead of supported. A gym should motivate people, not intimidate them with aggressive messaging. If this is the level of respect and maintenance on a holiday built around gratitude, imagine what the rest of the year looks like. There are MANY gyms in the Lighthouse Point / Pompano Beach area that treat people with professionalism and maintain clean, safe facilities. I strongly recommend choosing one of them instead of dealing with this kind of environment and management.
