Loved every aspect of it!!! Lots of room, so it doesn't feel crowded, even though it can fit quite a lot of people between the multiple dining rooms. The private party room at the entrance is eye catching. Very friendly server and wait staff. Helpful, knowledgeable, and patient. Margaritas are a must. I personally recommend the jalapeño cucumber marg with a tajin rim. The flautas as an appetizer were perfect. Lightly fried and full of flavor, especially with the avocado ranch/crema dipping sauce. The shrimp ajillo (garlic) entree was right up my alley. Personally, I could've done with a bit of spice kick, but it was good all the same, and especially the cilantro lime rice that came with it. My client ordered takeout for us last week. My client ordered fajita's with the skirt steak for himself and a quesadilla for his neighbor. For me, he ordered a chicken fajita's with grilled chicken since I'm not a fan of blackened chicken. I was so excited to get my fajita. Whenever I have Mexican food, I usually order Fajita's. I have been on the hunt the past 6 months to find the best place for fajita's. I have been to many places in Brick, Toms River & Lakewood. Most of them have been a disappointment. While I don't want to say Sofia's was a disappointment, I will say I was not impressed. My client loved his fajita. He was very happy with his meal and will most likely order again. My food on the other hand had very little flavor. Like I said, my client ordered the chicken grilled because I'm not a fan of blackened. The onions and peppers were horrible. They were barely cooked so they were crispy. I understand not wanting them to cook so they get mushy but they shouldn't be raw which is basically what I received. The flavor was minimal as well. It wasn't terrible but it was only slight. Not flavorful like you would expect a fajita to taste. I think Sofia's is a bit overpriced for what you receive. My meal was nothing to write home about. Needless to say, I'm still on the hunt for a good fajita. I do want to point out that the 2 girls in the front were awesome. They greeted me with a smile and were very helpful. They were also grateful for the small tip I gave them. I tipped them what I had in my wallet. Sofia's is just ok. Nothing extraordinary. Nothing stood out other than the 2 employee's that I interacted with that day. While I am not going to discourage anybody from trying Sofia's, I'm not going to encourage either. Maybe the cook had a bad day. Maybe they were busy and I didn't realize it. (It was only 4:30 in the afternoon when I picked our meal up so it was still early). I'm not sure I'll be going back for a 2nd try at Sofia's. Once I'm disappointed, I tend to not do it again but you never know. My client paid for my meal and I'm grateful for that. We keep trying Sofia's and it's never WOW impressed, just ok. I think this was the last chance cause now it's my in laws that are turned off from the most recent experience. Came back for my MIL's birthday on a busy Saturday night. We didn't do a table side celebration after hearing the happy birthday song 5 times in 10 minutes. We didn't make reservations so we waited over an hour for a table (our fault, obviously.) You're able to follow a list on your phone, and we watched the list get smaller but then our name disappeared and nobody came to get us or tell us our table was ready. We were just removed. My FIL went up front to ask what's going on and it was a scramble of "oh... our bad... I guess we'll seat you." So if you get on the wait list pay close attention. Service from there out was kind of awful. The heat was pumping it was uncomfortable. Got our first round of drinks fairly quick. Ordered wings as an appetizer but never received them. I asked for salsa verde 3 times before it was finally given to me - after I was almost done my food anyway, which btw was carne asada tacos that were dry and dusty. I needed the salsa just to add some flavor. We were left with empty drinks until halfway through our entrees when I finally was able to get our server's attention to ask again for my salsa verde and another round. Overall felt forgotten and dismissed by everybody EXCEPT the bartender that quickly gave me my first margarita while we waited for a table. That credit card fee is a nuisance and should have a cap on it. $12 processing fee my a$$ lol I hope this is my last review of this place. read more

Fun, energetic atmosphere and a spacious place. The drinks are great here! We were a party of 5 so a decent sized sampling of different items. We ordered these things to start: pineapple guacamole, mango habanero wings, queso and Bay Street corn. Salsa and chip were provided. Ratings for each: Pineapple guacamole 4/5, mango habanero wings 4.5/5, queso 3.5/5, street corn 3/5 (canned corn not grilled after either, not enough or no lime and very little Tajin). So far so good Dinners: carne Asada prime skirt, pollo Asada, 2 steak burritos and one carnitas chimichangas. Everyone gave 5/5. The prime skirt was perfectly executed. Mini-Me decided to treat me to TACOS!!! a couple Sundays ago, after doing some house work, sounds good to me, no need to ask twice, plus, she offered to pay!!! First off, margaritas, we opted for the frozen Mango and the Blueberry Ginger frozen both with sugar rim. Absolute perfection! then it was the appetizers, pineapple guacamole, I wasn't sure if I would like this, I am kind of a purist when it comes to my Mexican guac, but this was very tasty and went well with the margaritas. Next was the queso cheese dip with chorizo, I wasn't fond of this, it was tasty, but it didn't hit the spot, I would order it again especially since Mini-Me and my husband dig anything with Chorizo, and blended with melty cheese its a hit for them, and last but not least the street corn, it comes with tortillas, it was really good, but I personally like mine with mayo (Hellman's and crumbled parmesan cheese or cotija cheese). But this is not to say theirs isn't good it is delicious I ate it with the crispy table side chips, and I would order it again!! I ordered the carnitas tacos and these were stuffed full of carnitas and the seasoning was perfect, I added the house salsa that comes with the chips, and it was happiness for me. Mini-Me opted for the carnitas burrito-chimichanga style and she ate half, like me, we bagged the rest for lunch the next day. Of course hubby took it to work so, there was plenty on our plates to happily feed 3 people. We decided against dessert, we were obviously full, but it was a delicious meal and I will be going back more. I did add photos, so you can see the portions!!! A friend invited me to meet her at Sofia's, and after checking out the menu online, I was already excited. I'm a total margarita person - but nothing ruins it faster than a sweet & sour mix (if you know, you know). So when I saw the Chipotle Pineapple Margarita, I had very high hopes... and it did not disappoint. Perfectly balanced, just the right amount of spice and sweetness, honestly one of the best I've had in a while and they have a lot of flavor options to choose from. I ordered the Carnitas Burrito Bowl, and wow the portion size deserves its own shout-out. There's no way all of that could fit in a single burrito, so opting for the bowl felt like winning the food lottery. Easily enough for two (maybe even three) meals. The chips and salsa came out fresh and crisp, and the guacamole was amazing so creamy, flavorful, and clearly made fresh. The whole place has a fun, upbeat vibe without being loud, and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. This place is such a vibe. Restaurant is so spacious with plenty of photo ops. This place has to have some of the most delicious mojitos! I enjoyed the raspberry-mango and pineapple mojitos. We ordered from the lunch special and I had the blackened chicken quesadillas with chicken tortilla soup as my side. Everything was flavorful and the staff was above amazing. My sis ordered the grilled shrimp tacos which I had a bite and they were just as tasty while my mom enjoyed the blackened chicken tacos. We have been to Sofia's three or four times so far. We always have a pleasant experience there. The decor from the street is very colorful and fun. Inside is set up well. Colorful neon taco signs give it that Instagram crowd feeling. The bartenders are solicitous, they seem to care about what you feel like drinking. Sometimes its tough to decide btwn a margarita or some sangria. Its all good. You can't go wrong. The street corn is great, the queso is too. Portions are good. Entrees are what you expect, but with a fresh twist. We are so bummed that our go to Mexican place Rosie's closed. Now we have Sofia's. Also, you will see festive happy birthdays during your visit with the sparkler style candle and singing. It contributes to a community feeling. I like it! read more

I'm not even Spanish and I could cook with more flavor than that! 5 of us in our party and everyone agreed the food had zero flavor, no salt and everything tasted like oil/grease. Steak nachos- no seasoning on steak (although a good portion). Carnitas tacos were dry flavorless cubes- never saw that before but okay? Beef tacos were sweet and the fried shrimp tacos were DOUSED in chipotle mayo- shrimp weren't seasoned- tasted like a deep fried donut. For real. Good food not necessarily what other mex restaurants offer. However, very tasteful. The one negative is the fast food approach that meals deliver. I for one, detest pre made side dishes if only because you don't know its shelf history. Service can be hectic again in keeping with its fast food approach. Margaritas are good but pricey. The woman refilling water never it let it go below half. 4 different people asked about needing refills on chips , salsa or drinks. The food was great. They do the typical Mexican restaurant food well. But the dinner menu is small and they either didn't have specials or i didn't get that menu. Unlike other Mexican restaurants they have a extensive brunch/breakfast menu so i must return for that and id also like to go for the bar menu. This place is definitely upscale but i think the prices are $1 to $4 higher than they should be. I'd come back PSA for folks with sensory issues , this place might cause some issues. Ate dinner here w friends. I had a corn and black bean burrito. My husband had a steak fajita- he said the meat was the best he ever had. My burrito was good, I could only eat half. The drinks are expensive. The server was extremely cheerful and checked back often. Nice desserts all Mexican themed. The decor is really colorful and new and nice. Very fun festive atmosphere. Two stars because this place is mid at best. We started off with the Sophia's secret, special guacamole or whatever, and they definitely put too much lime in there because that's all I could taste in the guacamole. It didn't even taste like avocado it tasted like lime. Gross. And they don't even give you that much in the shallow bowl. I would never order this again and I would not recommend this. I ended up ordering the black and shrimp tacos, but substituting for fried shrimp. They were so bland. It was literally just a piece of fried shrimp and some purple cabbage that was bland. My meal wasn't even hot. I would definitely not order this again. One note on service: as soon as you're about to swallow your last bite, they come to clear your place as if they're rushing you out of there. To be really honest, my first impression was that the menu is awful. All of the tacos are like twenty dollars for the meal and they don't even come with a side of rice and beans. I've been to a lot of Mexican restaurants (all over Ocean County and Hoboken and New York City and in California) and the going rate for three tacos is usually around $12 not $21. Usually, you can mix and match the types of tacos too, but this place doesn't let you mix a match. The whole place is wildly decorated because I guess they have to get a gimmick since the food sucks. I honestly don't know why it was packed on a Saturday at noon, maybe because it's the day after Valentine's Day and people are doing Mexican brunch instead this weekend??? I don't know. I really cant guess why people come here. Maybe to drink and they don't care about the food. The only reason why they don't have one star is because it seemed decently clean in there. read more

This was my 2nd time going to Sofia's in Toms River. BTW... The first time I went we had a flight of margaritas. It was so much fun. See picture attached. We sat at the bar both times. This time I had a frozen guava margarita... Make that I had two of them... so good... I highly recommend the ancho chili rub chicken wings. They were absolutely delicious and piping hot. Had to hit Ocean County Mall for a pickup so decided to try out Sofias and see what all the hype about. Monday night parking was tight around 6pm. There was a wait for a table, so we went to the bar for a quick app and Rita. Bar was about 3/4 full. Atmosphere inviting and cool Mexican vibe. Hosts, servers and bartenders were friendly and busy! Monday is 2 for 1 margaritas per person. Why not! Ordered pineapple chipotle and spicy margaritas with tajin rim. FRESH LIME JUICE was fire. So good. For app we went w the 5 alarm guac. What an incredibly beautifully decorated space. It is gorgeous! The tacos were great and the drink menu was extensive especially in the margarita arena. The service was a little harried but it was understandable considering it was the opening night. What was really impressive was other staff members jumped in to serve us when our assigned server was struggling. The absolute highlight was the desserts!!! First that start with the ambience of this place. It is absolutely adorable. The outside is completely painted and styled to really stand out. Once you come inside and it has music and really cute signs. We went on a Friday and it was extremely busy, but thankfully we had a reservation, but if you do not, it will definitely be minimum an hour wait . Once we are seated, which didn't take long the service was very quick and friendly. The food comes out very fast and was delicious. The drinks can be a little bit pricey, but we're very tasty. I had a strawberry margarita and a jalapeño margarita. The margarita jalapeño was very spicy so beware. Food wise, we got a steak burrito, which was very large. I got the chicken fajita, which was very delicious. The only thing I found strange it didn't come with rice you have to order it on the side. The food and ambiance are great but the service and lead time is lacking. We've gone twice, once for lunch when it wasn't busy and once for dinner when it was somewhat busy. Both visits it took excessively long for our entrees to come out to the point where we considered leaving.
