Beautiful work! Just had my metal mid century George Koch vanity chair re upholstered and she did a great job and I'm totally in love with my chair again. Basically, I bought my own fabric ( a creme wool herringbone fabric from Michael Levine's ), she re upholstered it as well as changed out the cushion for me. I just had an outstanding experience with Sofa Decor in Eagle Rock. Our leather sofa was looking wilted and worn after years of use with family and pets. I was certain that the sofa would need to be replaced with a new (expensive) one in order to obtain the same quality. Complication: I needed a new sofa fast, as we had relatives visiting within one and a half weeks! OK, so the first thing you should probably know about getting things reupholstered-- it's pricey. I think the only time it's more affordable than buying new furniture, is when you got the original furniture for a song, or free, or it's antique and valuable. This is not Tonie's fault. It is just the nature of the craft itself. I asked for quotes from several places in the area. Not only was Tonie the first person to get back to me, but she had the most competitive price. KEEP IN MIND- you must provide the fabric. She recommended to go to a wholesale fabric store in downtown LA called Michael Levine. Fabrics really range in price, so this can definitely impact your bottom line. I went with a fabric that was about $13 a yard. She told me I would need 6 yards. It cost me about $80 for the fabric alone. Tonie did all off my chairs for $400 even ($100 a chair). She expects cash or check, and she expects you to pay half upfront. I found that the good vibes from renewing gorgeous mid century modern chairs that I found in my uncle's garage, and using a local family owned business, outweighed the bad vibes of spending close to $500 on the chairs. To each their own! Tonie was great at communicating via text. Most things take 2-3 weeks to complete, but mine was done early so she called to let me know. She put new padding and made sure I tested out sitting on them before I left the shop. She did a beautiful job, and I would use her again without hesitation. read more

After an extremely frustrating and ridiculous experience with Cisco Home (who, not surprisingly, no longer does reupholstry on existing furniture) I turned to Yelp and found Sofa Decor. They did an amazing job; the chair is comfortable and firm and the slipcover fits like a glove. Tonie makes them the old-school way, with piping accents along the edges and it's hard to tell it's actually a removable slipcover. Tonie has a great attention to detail. I had three large leather sofa cushions heavily damaged from a juice spill and it looked horrible. The rest of the sectional was fine so I didn't want to throw it away. But I was moving so I had to decide to keep it and reupholster or just trash it and buy new. Every place you turn to inquire about something like this, they tell you it won't be cost effective to reupholster, but I wanted to find out numbers myself so I can make that decision. First, I needed to find out how much the leather would cost and if I can even find a color match. I went to two great leather shops in downtown (Sav Mor and United Leather) and inquired about prices. I find out that its only about $200 for this massive piece (I think it was about 50sqft). Like I said, both leather shops were great, but Sav Mor had an identical match to my sectional. Now that I had the material, I needed to find out how much the reupholstering would be. I decided on Sofa Décor due to one review where a lady had the same exact issue as me. And on that review, she said it wasn't pricey at all. She didn't mention what the amount was though, so I went for a quote. When Sofa Décor told me $100 for each cushion, my exact blurted out response was "that's it?". After getting the quote, I bought the leather and brought it along with the cushions to Sofa Décor. John, who I dropped it off with told me it would take one to two weeks. I asked if they could do it sooner since I was moving into the new place and it would be fairly uncomfortable without it. He said he would put in the request for me, but I didn't have my hopes up too high. I dropped it off on Friday at 4pm. Monday rolls around and I'm busy packing for my move and I get a call around 1pm and it's Toni (I think she's the owner) telling me my cushions were ready. WHAT? I had to tell her I couldn't pick it up until Wednesday because my move was scheduled Tuesday and I wasn't nearly done packing. Ironic, right? Here is the best part. The quality of the work was phenomenal! Not only that, they also filled the cushion, without me asking, nor did they charge me for it. Are these people for real? We as consumers need to do everything we can to promote small businesses like Sofa Décor. It just feels so great when the service and quality of work exceeds your expectations. Sofa Décor, I am fan! ps. Toni asked me where I got the leather. She said it's good quality and that the price I paid was very low. Tonie made a custom slipcover for a Pottery Barn upholstered rocking chair and ottoman that I was gifting to a friend for her baby's nursery (slipcovered because we wanted it to be washable). Hello, brand new chair. I looks better than it ever thought about looking -- especially after 11 years of use, first as a chair in my nursery and then as my dog's favorite chair. She even matched the fabric (a dotted stripe) so that everything is straight. Best part, the chair was picked up from me, finished and then delivered to my friend's house all while I was out of the country. She was very easy to work with, provided me with a quote soon after I contacted her via Yelp, let us borrow fabric samples, completed the job early, and threw in a couple of great pillows that add a lot to to the sofa. Tonie is terrific. She reupholstered a rocking chair for me to put in our nursery and did a great job. The work was done in a timely manner, and the price was very reasonable, too. She even surprised us with a few complimentary pillows for the baby she made out of a very cute fabric which we felt was really thoughtful! There is a second part to this saga in that, when we got the rocking chair home, I started hemming and hawing about whether it had too much padding in it (pregnancy hormones don't make for the clearest head!); I hadn't ever really communicated that I wanted the padding to be pretty streamlined to match the mid-century aesthetic of the chair, and Tonie was just thinking about maximum comfort for feeding/rocking, so it definitely wasn't any fault of hers. So I called her back and explained my feelings, and she agreed to redo it at no cost to me other than the fabric just to make me happy. In the end, I decided to keep the chair as is because it does actually look really good and I figured I was being a little too intense wanting to have everything be extra perfect for the nursery. And it will be super comfortable for the when the baby arrives! Tonie's work is excellent. I had a convertible sofa I liked so much so I did not want to replace. Frankly I was not sure it could be reupholstered to my satisfaction but I am very pleased with the result. I also have two irreplaceable chairs with beautiful upholstery material but the seats got too soft to sit on comfortably and sagged. First up: EXCELLENT service and beautiful, artistic uphosltery job. Yay Tonie!! I just moved to LA from the east coast & brought my antique Victorian couch with me. I looked online and found Tonie's shop. I contacted her because we had many challenges. Our new home is located on a steep hillside with 32 steps! So our first challenge was timing - the moving truck was scheduled to arrive on a specific date and we didn't want the sofa hauled up those 32 steps, only to have to bring it back down days later for re-upholstering. But we have no garage to store it in - so Tonie had to agree to arrive for pickup on a specific date with a small window of time. She arrived exactly when she said she would. The sofa was done in amazing time (about 10 days) and it is GORGEOUS!! She also delivered & brought 2 strong guys to haul it up those 32 steps. Every step of this process (including the 32) was perfect. I hope she stays in business a long time because I have more projects for her! read more
