    Veal cutlet meal
    Gene T.

Staff was nice. Reasonably clean. Nothing fancy. Family style. Not cheap. Ordered veal cutlet with creamy mushroom soup, baked potato and veggies. Creamy mushroom soup was basically an over thickened (could taste some flour chunks) chicken stock with mushrooms added. Salty! Potato and veggies came out cold. Cutlet...came in two thin pieces with gravy on top. One piece was nice. The other was tough and way over cooked. So....they brought new veggies and a hot baked potato. The second cup of coffee was hot. At the end they knocked off $7 on the bill since both of us ordered the exact same thing and had the exact same problem.

We ordered the chicken "souvlaki platter" and the "signature burger." The souvlaki platter came with 4 pieces of stale factory-made pitta bread. The chicken was burnt, dry, and lacked any sort of flavour. The greek salad we ordered with it wasn't even greek salad-- just limp lettuce sprinkled with olives and tomato. My burger was wet. I don't know how else to describe it-- it was dripping when I picked it up. Also, the burger contained an entire chunk of onion(?). The burger itself had flavour, but the texture was honestly disgusting after I bit into it and the entire thing was *dripping.* I wouldn't really care about any of this if I had ordered from a fast food restaurant, but this costed close to $40. I thought Socrates was one of the "fine dining" restaurants in St. Albert, but I was wrong lol. I'm pretty shocked with the horrible quality of the food and I'd definitely encourage people to eat anywhere else. There was no care put into the meal, so yeah i'm pretty disappointed :/

I've been meeting my parents at this restaurant for several years now. It is the brunch hot spot in St. Albert. Every Sunday morning and early afternoon there's a lineup of people eager to eat and socialize. The line may look daunting but the staff are very efficient. Pretty much anything you order on the brunch menu is really good. They also have specials which are worth checking out. I've eaten here for dinner, too and the food is great. They boast the best prime rib in town. The staff are very friendly and efficient. They keep the coffee flowing during brunch.

If you are looking for fast service don't eat here. The food is good and reasonably priced but it took 10 min to get our order placed.

Late review, but trust me it's worth it. Pictures included…read more Girlfriend and I stopped in to check out this new Bar and Steakhouse. DO NOT kid yourselves, this is high quality dining at local, reasonable prices. We ordered the herbed chicken and a half rack of ribs and the spicy garlic butter prawns. We asked our fantastic server if the chef could split our order into 2 plates. She runs away and comes back in 2 minutes saying the chef would love to do that for us. Awesome! We're happy. I just kind of expected 2 bar style plates with our food lumped onto it. OMG! Was I blown away! The plating was what you would expect in a high end restaurant, not a Bar and Grill! The Keg, Chop, etc, beware. This hot new Steakhouse just might have your number. Our chicken was cooked to perfection, while being one of the juiciest chicken dishes I've ever had. The only thing keeping the chicken together was the perfect Grill marks! I'm saying this was superior chef skills. Veggies, perfectly grilled and just a touch crunchy. Perfect! Mashed potatoes, were amazing. Perfect garlic flavor. Just a touch on the cool side, so that's my only critique. However the hot gravy on the side solved that pretty quick. The prawns were still hot, perfect texture and the spice was exactly what it promised, spicy and garlic, without being too spicy. Brought out the depths of the sweetness of the prawns beautifully. Ribs! I almost forgot the ribs. Lol. Juicy, very well cooked with a nice sweet BBQ sauce. A touch fatty, but I like mine well done and forgot to ask. Otherwise, amazing. Dessert, White Chocolate Brownie. Sadly it fell victim to our spoons as soon as it hit the table, but I managed 2 pictures before it's demise. Think of a brownie, then add coconut, then add ice cream, with a pinch of WTF was that awesomeness and multiply that by 100! With an expertly drizzled combination of chocolate and white chocolate sauce on the plate. I wish you could have eaten it! All in all, absolutely, 100%, recommend this place to anyone looking for an amazing meal. Hands down, you will not be disappointed.

I've tried the pizza bread, nachos and both Cajun chicken and grilled cheese sandwiches, all of which were tasty and all of which were in the $6-9 range. The beer is cheap and cold, although I'll never forget the conversation when I first sat down: Waitress: "What'll you have to drink?" Me: "What kind of beers do you have on tap?" Waitress: "Canadian." Me: "I'll have a Canadian." Service here is very good. The ladies who have served me remember my name, and are always warm. Mary in particular is a totally amazing server, and one of my favourite waitresses in the city - I look forward to seeing her every time I go! Make no mistake though, these servers know how rough around the edges their clientele can be, and they don't take crap. I can tell. Karaoke nights are hilarious and just as unpretentious as the rest of the Hawkeye's experience. Go on a Thursday-Saturday night and find out for yourself! I'm always enjoy my visits here; great little spot in downtown Edmonton.

It draws some of the same crowd in as those more popular bars, but it also has a real mix of people filling up the tables and booths. It's a lower-scale place that's part restaurant, part bar. The pizza was surprisingly VERY yummy here! Although they don't have very many beers on tap (I think it was a total of 1), we still had a really fun night with a big group of friends here. Out waitress (I forget her name, but everyone else seemed to know her) was fantastic. She was friendly and attentive (which was very impressive given how busy the place was). I would come by again for the pizza and a beer next time I'm in the mood for a very laid-back evening.
