My friend and I went for dinner and were very disappointed in the quality of food. I ordered a senior turkey dinner and was given bits of turkey , maybe a tsp of turkey chopped up and hidden under the stuffing on top. Maybe a tablespoon of stuffing on top. I looked under the stuffing and there was a. bit if dried turkey with the skin. I really should of returned it right there then. I didn't say anything as I suggested Socrates for. Dinner. The breakfast has always been great but the dinner is very disappointing. My husband and his friend has hamburger steak and they didn't enjoy it as they both said it was terrible gravy. We would not go back fir dinner unless the quality of food improves. read more

There are good and bad things about Socrates, but the bad ones triumph by far. The parking lot and location for the restaurant are stupid. Every time I go there I probably end up waiting 5 minutes to turn left. The tables are really nice, but once you sit down it takes about 3 seconds to realize that you have a "wonderful" view of st.albert trail. The staff don't care about you as a customer. They take your order, hope they don't mix it up, give you your food then they leave. You have to go up to the front just to get a re fill of coffee. Socrates, not reccomended read more

I go weekly, sometimes twice weekly to eat breakfast with a friend. For two years straight. Sometimes I show up with a coffee in hand, especially if I've been out doing errands. Today I picked up a coffee because last week the coffee at Socrates was undrinkable and was removed from my bill. However the hostess wouldn't seat us. She was reluctant to get a manager/owner, she repeated herself over and over and would not listen to my question. Eventually she told us the owner was "too busy" to speak to us. What I would have expected was a pass this time ( as we come weekly often with our own coffee) and ask us in the future not to bring our coffees. Good bye Socrates. I counted a total of 51 visits this year between my family, myself and my friend. We will take our business where it's valued. read more

My daughters stopped by this restaurant with a couple friends, there is a sign that states please wait to be seated. Not one hostess even make eye contact with the group. They were too busy taking money from the customers that have eaten. In the mean time, 3 families walked past my daughters and wrote their names down. They then asked if that is how you get your name on the list and the hostess said yes!!!! Is it not the bloody hostess' job to take down the names? She then asked if that means they are at the bottom of the list even though they were there before the other 3 families. The hostess said yes. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??????? You may have a busy restaurant but we will never be giving you any of our money. I called the owner and she apologized which doesn't mean much, how about you give your staff proper training??? That would make more sense to me. And stop letting your regulars from writing their names down ahead of people that aren't regulars!!! Had it been me that this happened to, there would have been one Hell of a scene in your restaurant, I can tell you that much. read more

I do like the food at Socrates , but the wait is so very painful , I would not normally care about the wait but at Socrates there is clearly tables available but they will every time make you wait in line while no body cleans the empty tables for sometimes 20 minutes or so , as a customer I feel less important when I eventually get seated because someone got around to it read more

Great little diner. Most filling/cheapest breakfast in town. ALL DAY BREAKFAST! Been going once a week for at last two years. Never had bad food, always left full. Read some of the reviews on here and genuinely think those negative reviewers were at a different place or maybe expecting a five star restaurant instead of a diner? Its usually shitpacked on weekends for several hours during breakfast and lunch so don't expect 5 minute service with a full house. Also one of the only places in town with the same(mostly) staff year after year. The significance of that may be lost on some but it makes an enormous difference. Most of the servers are so good they remember my order week to week. This place is a hidden gem. Comfortable, not pretentious, good eats. read more

I went with my mother here as it is usually a great place. Thos time however it was just disgusting, the service was below par and the attitudes of the waitress and her self professed daughter were extremely rude and unprofessional. We ordered 2 breakfasts. The 222 thingy they called it but it turned out just nasty. Initially i ordered 2 eggs over medium and got scrambled eggs instead. The waitress went n brought me out two runny eggs to replace em.The waffles were like wood, hard and almost impossible to cut into even despite putting 2 butters plus syrup on them. When we told the waitress she asked if wed prefer pancakes and proceded to fetch us 2 new plates of pancakes which took about 7 minutes, wed already eaten the eggs n meat from the prior breakfast at this point. The pancakes were sinkers n doughy n were obviously cooked in a great deal of fat or oil as you could see prts of them were seemongly deep fried looking. At the end of this debacle i sent my mom out to the car and decided to ask for at least a discount since we werent happy with the meal or the service and proceded To tell not one but three waitresses my story who were manning the cashier spot and finally my waitress came to deal with me and she apparently hadnt been informed, so basicaly i wasted 10 minites standing and explaining it all to those other waitresses for absolutely nothing. My waitress agreed to deduct the price of the coffee n tea as recompense for the crappy breakfast and i said well the drinks werent the freaking problem , then the daughter started yammering off about my language etc n associated bs about her mom n stuff. I just said "whatever " n paid n left. This place has gone down bigtime and its a shame because over the years ive been here lots and always had a good experience. My mom was disgusted with the waffles and the pancakes and didnt eat any of them. Id suggest finding somewhere else to go eat as this place doesnt care about customer service or satisfaction anymore and the nasty ignorant attitudes of some of the employees makes it even worse read more

Sat for over an hour, three tables next to us were seated for fifteen minutes and were served. Asked for water twice and never got any. When the waitress came by and said it was going to be a while longer, we mentioned the long wait and she immediately argued. We then said we were going to leave and she said to bad what ever. I want to first say that we went here for breakfast on a weekend and it was great- good food, lovely waitress and the place was packed. Went again for dinner and I would not recommend it! Absolutely awful. The food was mediocre at best, I had halibut with a neon yellow glaze on it, bland rice and undercooked vegetables. My daughter had the kids meal spaghetti which had chunks of burnt sauce in it and my husband had ribs which were incredibly salty also with undercooked vegetables. The kids meal was supposed to come with a drink and dessert- the waitress offered neither. She also failed to tell us the specials or offer the salad or soup that was supposed to come woth entrees. In general she was in a daze and did the bare minimum. The place was also a mess. Both bathrooms were disgusting and looked as though they hadnt been cleaned in ages- paper towels and water coming out the door. We left there annoyed we paid $70 for 2 adults and a young child to have bad food and poor service. I would not go there again. read more

Disappointment, went here expecting a great donair but it wasn't. Meat was soggy and pita was crunchy and the sauce was gross. The salad was was watery and the croutons were to soggy to enjoy. For 13 dollars i could have gone to simply donair and had a way better experience. Never going again. read more

I always thought over easy meant the eggs were turned over on the hot grill or pan to cook both sides of the egg without the runny white. Not true here, over easy means eggs are turned over on the plate without the benefit of having the top of the egg white seeing any heat from the pan. They were runny and slimy. I should have known this was not the best place for breakfast when I found out their hash browns were just the frozen potato cubes. What ever happens to shredded hash browns? Years ago, you got fresh, maybe frozen shredded hash browns here. Now, because of their convenience, dumping frozen cubes of processed potatoes into a deep fryer outweighs customer satisfaction . Too bad they don't have the talent to cook things fresh. I paid the full price for something I could not eat...perhaps there are better places to go in St. Albert. I will seek them out.
