I was staying nearby Soco and wanted to get some brunch. We were able to walk in and find a table easily. It was not packed on a Sunday afternoon. The waiter greeted us and gave us some great suggestions on what to order. I decided to go with the Crispy Fried Chicken and French Toast. It comes with pumpkin seed granola, bourbon maple syrup, and chantilly cream. To drink I ordered the Kentucky Cooler which comes with Kentucky bourbon, borghetti espresso liqueur, iced coffee and buffalo trace cream. The Kentucky Cooler came out first which was nice. I wanted a caffeine boost in the morning so I was craving this. There was a very strong portion of alcohol. I was not used to a strong amount of alcohol early in the morning but I adjusted. The chicken and french toast came out after that. The plate is very hot which I mistakenly touched and burned myself slightly. I waited for everything to cool down before eating. The portions were generous. The mixture of fried chicken and sweet maple syrup is definitely an interesting taste in my mouth. I was about to go for the breakfast tacos but this was a great alternate option. I saw people ordered the French Toast Tower which gives you several options of french toast. In addition there is a bacon flight with berkwood, wild boar, benton, and candied applewood bacon. If bacon is your preference and you want to try different options this would be a good choice. Had brunch at Soco today. We love this restaurant but rarely get downtown. We started with the bacon flight and breakfast shot. So yummy! My bestie drank the shot and said, "what kind of sorcery is this?!" It tasted just like a pancake with bacon. Would definitely get again. Next up... mac and cheese for the table. Delicious. Finished with wedge salads. While a salad sounds simple, this was so good! Like the best BLT you've ever had without the bread. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because we were there early for our reservation and they took a few tables before us because a woman came in with her kids and just went and sat at our table in the bar area. Not the fault of the restaurant and they did ask her to move but with the comment "oh they're sitting at your table". The guests probably didn't need to hear that. However the food itself didn't hit with any of us really ): The menu is interesting and has lots of variety, but all of our dishes were severely undersalted. First time here for brunch. I felt a little bad for the wait staff as we had a bit of a chaotic bunch with seven adults, and three little kids, but our server, Whitney was professional, attentive, and very accommodating. A bottle of champagne for mimosas was a very reasonable $19 with accompanying choice of juices, including orange, pineapple, grapefruit, and cranberry. The Food was extremely tasty. I came here with some friends for a nice brunch one Saturday morning recently. We had our reservations, got seated, and got to work. Beautiful space right down the street from the beautiful Lake Eola. Service was impeccable. Server was a little odd, but I like odd ones. Overall, we were very well taken care of. We started off with a biscuit platter with some biscuits, three spreads, some butter. It was great! Warm, tender, flakey biscuits. Each spread was a huge pop of fruit flavor and the butter was room temperature, as it should be, and was very buttery. Then came the Soco-Style "Chicken and Dumplings" (Chicken Breast, Lobster Dumplings, Local Mushrooms, Edamame, Soy Butter). Very interesting dish. The dumplings were very delicious with the succulent lobster within, the umami from the mushrooms was good, too. Solid, but a lot of softness. I would have liked to see something even a little crunchy. Thenn came the "Southern Style" Eggs Benedict (English Muffin, Fried Green Tomato, Benton's Country Ham, Creole Hollandaise). Another solid dish. Crisp and well-cooked tomato. I wanted a little more oomf from that Creole hollandaise, but I know they have to appeal to the mass audience. Finally was the Chicken -N- French Toast (Maple Sorghum Butter, Almond Granola, Pink Peppercorn Whipped Cream). Every component of this dish was done and out to me, except the chicken. They were still cooking it while I was watching my whipped cream melt on my French toast. Lol. Overall, this place was pretty good. Yesterday, I was able to make it out to Soco with my family for brunch. We had such an amazing time as we were able to fellowship over our tasty dishes. I've been dining at Soco for some years but never reviewed this restaurant. If you're searching for a twist on southern comfort foods this will be your restaurant. My favorite is their seasonal poptarts which is not on their menu at the moment so don't forget to ask. Each time I've gone there is always a new flavor of poptart to tryout. This week's blueberry poptart was a perfect combination of sweet and tart with a flaky butter shell. 10/10 My boyfriend had the fried and French toast which he stated was delicious. The only thing on his plate was the chantilly cream and few specs of the pumpkin seed granola. His mother enjoyed her shrimp and grits as the plate was flavor and shrimp was juicy. I came here for brunch on a Saturday. We had a reservation for 1:15. But did have to wait a few minutes to be seated. Our waitress came right on over. Of course I had to get bottomless mimosas and I like the fact that they bring the champagne bottle to your table. For appetizer, I ended up getting their biscuits with the assortment of marmalade. This was really the showstopper for me. The biscuits were so soft and buttery and crispy around the edges just the way I like them. And the peach raspberry marmalade paired perfectly with it. I kinda wish I would've stopped ordering after that. But for my entrée I ordered the steak and eggs. I asked for scrambled egg whites, but I guess the waitress didn't hear me and brought me regular scrambled eggs and I asked for my steak to be medium well in which it was cooked well and very dry. You have the option of mashed potatoes or grits, and I chose the grits, which was the only thing I ate from the plate. I didn't really want another meal after that so I decided to order some dessert in which they have banana pudding on the menu and I just have to try it everywhere I go. I don't know if they were rushing the pudding or what, but it was not smooth, it was more so gritty idk. The part that I did enjoy was the caramelized bananas on top those were delicious. read more

SOCO looks romantic from the outside when you're strolling down Thornton Park. I've seen it a couple of times but never gave it a try until now. I'm not sure if I find the interior just as romantic with the outdated design choices. The decor reminded me more of an Italian restaurant than upscale Southern Contemporary. However, it's a larger space than it appears and had plenty of seating indoor and outdoor. The front staff immediately greeted us and were pleasant. The server was friendly, considerate, and offered recommendations. I when servers do try to over sell you on items at an upscale establishment. We only wanted a quick bite before going to an event. The menu is small but had a little of everything. My friend ordered the Strawberry Fields drink which was a special cocktail with vodka. It was light on the alcohol but enjoyable. We ended up getting the Bronze Diver Scallops, Wild Mushroom Bolognese, and Bourbon and Brown Sugar Glazed Brussels Sprouts. The plating for the scallops was creative and festive. Scallops were seared perfectly and the truffle cauliflower purée was smooth and creamy. The dish had a balance of freshness from the cherry tomatoes but overall the dish was good, not spectacular. The Wild Mushroom Bolognese presentation wasn't as creative, it needed some sort of pop of color so it wouldn't look so drab. It also could use another pinch of salt but the sauce and angel hair pasta blended well, However, there didn't seem to be enough mushrooms and some were chopped up into small bits. The pasta to mushroom ratio was off but I was happy the pasta had a fair amount of sauce, I think something else could have elevated the entree. My favorite dish was actually a side plate. I can't rave enough about the Bourbon and Brown Sugar Brussels Sprouts. It made up for the two entrees. It was packed with flavors, well seasoned and the bourbon brown sugar married all the elements together. I'd return just for this dish. Would I give this restaurant another chance? Probably. Were the entrees worth the price? Not really. It's Thornton Park so I expected more. I've had better Southern Contemporary cuisine elsewhere, yet I might give it another chance one day. There's street parking and parking lots available. Just be prepared to walk since street parking spaces are limited since it's so close to Lake Eola. read more

Our server was absolutely fantastic. We were a big group of 10 and she took care off all of us on her own! She was very attentive and on top of everything. The food was SUPER GOOD! Very fresh and hot. We started with biscuits and they were perfect; Hot, soft and not too crumbly. As a bonus they came with 3 fresh, house made jams: Strawberry, Raspberry & Pineapple. They were so good, not too sweet with just a gentle bit of tartness. They do not offer bottomless mimosas, but they do offer bottles for $19, wich actually worked out well. I had cheesey grits which were perfect. I also had the veggie benedicts. They were savory, and bursting with flavor. The serving size was generous and with biscuits & grits I definitely could have shared. I highly recommend. I will mention something that I thought was VERY bad, but the fault lies 100% on the bartenders shoulders. Someone in our group ordered a mezcal drink and when it came he barely seemed to touch it. Turns out he said it tasted like Vodka, so he sent it back. The server came back and told us that the bartender said they were out of mazcal. I thought that was pretty crapy to try and sneek a switcharoo like that. Absolutely fantastic restaurant. Start with a custom Old Fashioned - what a fun start to a meal. Starters were biscuits and brussels sprouts, both some of the best I have ever had. I love the biscuits so much that I had the southern style tacos as my meal because they had a biscuit tortilla. This was unlike anything I have had before and absolutely delicious. The bourbon banana pudding was also amazing. There are so many unique items on this menu that makes it hard to choose - good place to go with a group and have a lot of starters and shared plates. I'm SUPER picky about my food. Taste, texture, presentation needs to be superior for me not to complain. I was NOT disappointed!!! EVERYTHING was perfect. The Grilled Shishito Peppers were charred, juicy, and had a wonderful sauce that balanced the peppers, there was even a yellow spicy pepper in the batch that stood out and added a pop of flavor. Next was the Pecan Crusted Catch of the day. All I can say is...... OH MY! I was sitting down and my knees got weak. First of all, the rice, the rice, the rice! It was probably the BEST rice I've EVER had! It was PERFECT. The amount of stickiness, fluffiness, crunch (not burnt, not dry, not dry). I felt like Goldilocks in her happy place ! Ok, on top of that rice was the catch of the day cooked to perfection, juicy, flavorful, moist and fresh. The pecan crust was not overpowering so to hide the fish. It was more or less a pecan dusting, which added a delicate texture to what already was perfection. AND to add the which nuts and cherry to the ecstasy I was in was the moat of sauce surrounding the fish topped rice. The sauce was creamy, not too rich, not too lemony, not overly complex yet had me return to it for every bite. Not only was the sauce the warm blanket on a chilly day, the moat had a beautiful ribbon of tasty EVOO. Do you see why my knees were buckling as I sat there?? Next were the Bourbon and Brown Sugar Glazed Brussel Sprouts. Who prepared these???? Cooked again to perfection; not undercooked and crunchy or overcooked, ands mushy, not over charred like charcoal. These sprouts and their petals were perfect and basking in an incredible glaze of bourbon and brown sugar. INCREDIBLE! Needless to say I was (and still am) in awe of this meal. I HAD TO have the chef, "CHEF CRAIG", come out so I could appreciate his genius. My hat, all my hats are off to you Chef Craig! The small plates were generous portion wise. I would get less next time, but only because of the amount of food. My favorites were the grilled shishito peppers, chicken taco (biscuit "tortillas", yum) and grilled king oystery mushrooms. Our server was fantastic and attentive but not hovering or pushy. They dropped off napkins (not folded, just draped on the table across from us), the spoons we got were obviously oversized soup spoons that did not work for the dainty dessert containers and the stem wear was...interesting. My friends and I went to Soco Thornton Park for their weekend brunch menu we saw on TikTok. We ordered bottomless mimosas which were $18 dollars per person. I would say it was worth it because the server kept coming and we didn't have to wait too long for bottle refills. For food, I ordered the Soco-style chicken dumplings and the Sorghum Cured Salmon with an Everything "Bagel" Biscuit and I would say it's worth it because of how unique the dishes were as well. Without a doubt, the highlight of our experience was the bottomless mimosas and the exceptional service. Our server was a gem. She walked us through the menu and made everything on the menu sound incredible. She knew every single dish and had wonderful recommendations and even shared anecdotes along the way. Upon arrival, this was NOT the best experience... especially coming to celebrate Mother's Day. I originally thought I booked Stubborn Mule, which I love; however, I accidentally booked SoCo on OpenTable and decided to keep the reservation since I had never attended before. We reserved an outside table on the patio... the seat they provided was in the Sun, no umbrella at 90+ degrees (all others, even empty tables, had shade). We asked for another seat, which ended up being in a corner where the waiter refills drinks and get bottles. To get by us, they had to squeeze through a small area between the wall every 2 minutes. In summary, there should not be a table in this area and, for the amount of money any guest will pay for dining, they should be comfortable. When asked to move, we were told that the empty tables were spoken for (we had a reservation). We were finally moved after asking multiple times, but this experience and inconsideration is not worth dining here. The food was actually good (chicken thighs, eggs, etc.) and, thank goodness for our waitress. She was amazing and worked hard to turn our experience around. Overall experience at Soco was pleasant. We had a reservation and got seated righted away. Nice presentation with the old fashioned drinks, which came out in a mini barrel for that smoky flavor. Another positive is that the food was locally sourced. For apps, the meatballs and sauce were delicious and seasoned to perfection with a nice kick topped with a jalapeño slice. The fried chicken was THE best fried chicken I have ever eaten. Tender and juicy chicken on the inside and crispy on outside with no greasiness whatsoever. The seasoning also paired well with the Asian slaw. The lamb was tender in a nice sauce, but it was a little bit fatty.
