New name, who dis?! One of the many things that comes with getting married, is a trip to the Social Security Office to change your name. Yipee!! I opted to go on a weekday; this past Wednesday to be exact. I had prepared myself for a bit of a wait, cold temperatures (it was about 10 degrees in the shade when I arrived), and I also arrived about 30 minutes prior to opening. This seemed to be a fairly popular tactic as there were maybe 10 people ahead of me. Once the doors opened we all made our way to the second floor where we hopped in line outside the office. Anyone with appointments were called in first. After that they started working the line to see if others needed forms and we slowly made our way into the main room. We were all given a number and I was immediately directed to a window where I was assisted by a very efficient woman. She ran down a few verification questions and handed me a receipt reflecting my new name. So simple! From arrival (30 minutes early) to walking out the doors this whole process took a whole 50 minutes. Whoa! Was not expecting that at all!! While I can't say it was my favorite experience, I can definitely say I was expecting much worse! Aurora Social Security Office you are easily an "A-OK" in my book! **Pro Tip: Go online and fill out the forms you need in advance, print them up, and bring them with you. Anna has once again gone beyond horrible. She screamed at me yesterday, said my SS was welfare and she wasn't going to release my money because I can't afford to live on my SS? I told her I was going to report her for treating me like that, so she yelled again and hung up on me. I am calling the Governor's advocate today. read more

I'm trying to figure out why I have been paying back pay since I was 18! I'm 45 and the only thing that they ever told me way back in 2018 is the cost of living. it make no sense to me. I became disabled at 14 so my mom was over my check. As soon as I was old enough to receive them in my name I was automatically paying backpay. Still till this day they are take 95$ out of my check. so I'm still in the 800$ zone. Barely paying my bills read more

Went to the office in January to get signed up for Part B, filled out paper work gave it to officer and still to this day 6/6/25 still have not heard a thing and when I call and am on hold for 1hr 45min was told no paperwork or information is in the system, was asked to called the office where I filled out paperwork to see if it's in their system. Is this the new administration efficient system at work? All I got from the visit was a case of the flu. read more

I called at 11:45 MST and Am STILL ON HOLD - Denver offices close at 4. Hanging up in 5 minutes in complete frustration. How does anyone get any help in this bureaucratic nightmare? My husband signed up online for Medicare since he will not be applying for social security until full retirement age. We mailed his passport & birth certificate via certified mail for verification of his application. The office updated his status within 2 business days & we received his documents back via certified mail within 4 business days. (I was a bit nervous having to submit important documents & was very happy at the prompt service from this office.) read more

Actually, it wasn't as bad as I had expected. They open at 9am and when I came at 8:26a, there were already 30 people in front of me. They opened the door 15 min prior to 9 and you have to go to the 2nd floor. The DECO security guard explained the procedures of how you enter your request in the computer and how you will be called based upon your request. I laughed along with others when the security guard explained that you are not to play Pokemon Go inside the office and that if you are caught taking pictures, you will have to show what you took, delete the picture, and be asked to leave. Once the office officially opens at 9a, they only allow 2 people at a time to prevent fraud of people stealing others' social security numbers. I think it's a well-oiled machine for it being a government office. I got called at 930a and with 30 people in front of me, I was thoroughly surprised. read more

This place is nasty. I seriously thought I was transported into an episode of Parks and Rec and was on the dreaded 4th floor. People watching aplenty, I think I was the only person without a lazy eye or limp (or both). I tried to call to make an appointment to change my name but the wait to reach an agent to make an appointment was over an hour so I just in on a Thursday afternoon. I waited over an hour then noticed they skipped over me so I had to check in again and start the process. Once I got to a window agent, it took about two minutes and I was on my way. They need to be a little more efficient and have sanitizer mists in the office because there were people hacking their lungs up all over the place. I was going to go to the Littleton office because I heard it's pleasant and getting through is a breeze but I wanted to have some faith in the Aurora office. Against my better judgment, I came to this office around noon on a Tuesday. The lobby was packed, no seating, people were spilling out into the hallway. I originally got a ticket starting with an "S" and noticed a few other people who were coming in to get a name change due to marriage had tickets starting with the letter "G". This prompted me to get a second ticket just in case. In total I spent almost 3 hours waiting & actually processing took 5 minutes or less. The woman who processed my paperwork was pleasant. If I would have had to wait on my "G" ticket to be called...I would probably still be there almost 4 hours later. Good people watching, but I suggest you bring something to keep yourself occupied while you wait - you'll be there a while! You only come here if you absolutely have to, your experience will be much like one at the DMV or any other government agency that is similar. read more

Ha, another Government facility. I was not looking forward to this, trust me. But I need my name changed and there's no way around it. When i walked in, all I saw was a TON of people. Picked up my form, pulled a number and prepared myself for a long wait. That was a little before 1 pm. It took 35 in and out. The people, especially the young man that helped me, were super nice. Terrible customer service. I've had to send very personal information in the mail twice because they didn't process my information correctly the first time. I'm trying to locate my mail from them, which they were supposed to send priority and didn't. I've been hung on and dealt with very rude people. I would give no stars if I could. read more

Having read some of the negative reviews of the Aurora, CO office, I was pleased to receive 'above and beyond' service from a gentleman representing this office. The problem was that I was missed two social security direct deposits after I had changed banks. Because I really depend on the deposits, I called the Washington main number (800-722-1213) several times and had no resolution. So in frustration, I called the local office and within one telephone call the issue was resolved politely & quickly. A well-deserved THANKS to the gentleman with whom I spoke. read more

Had to get a replacement SS card. We arrived after 1 pm and still was seen before 4 pm. No enough chairs for everyone to sit. It's very hard to hear when they call your #. But it was clean and everyone was very friendly. The lady who helped window 6 was so nice. read more

Although not a particularly pleasant experience, it wasn't as bad as I expected. The office opens at 9am and when I got there at 8:45 there were dozens of people already waiting in line. You can schedule an appointment ahead of time, unless you are getting a new or replacement social security card. I was getting a new card to reflect my marital name change and the total process took a little over an hour. I would recommend getting there right as or before the office opens to save time. read more

We applied for retirement benefits on 01.11.2019. We already had 2 appointments at Aurora office. The last one was on 03.26.2019. We were told to expect to get a letter from the office in 2 weeks. After almost 6 weeks there is no letter yet. We called the office a few times to ask why our applications are pending, and how much longer we should wait. Nobody responded, nobody retuned the calls. We are not begging for a favor. We are asking for the benefits we earned. Why we don't even deserve to get an answers to simple question. read more

How hard it is to get your social security card changed for US citizens. I have been here for 3 days straight and got nowhere and basically I guess your birth certificate means nothing these days ....if you have to go to a different office. All three days of running around it shouldn't be that difficult the office is packed people everywhere nowhere to sit and not that many workers read more

We all know that the wait at places like this are not always the fastest, but I do have to say, the employees at this location were all very nice and helpful. The security guards were patient and helpful and then I was finally called up to a younger gal with short blonde hair. She was very very nice and helped me with all my questions and even helped me with what steps I needed to do next after getting a new social Security card. read more

We all know what a pain it is to go to these places. Long wait, lots of people crammed into a small room, generally draining. However, that's not my main complaint. I went in for a general married name change. The girl at the window was super sweet, but when I apologized that I couldn't decide whether to change my middle name to my new maiden or keep it (hate it, plus not crazy about my difficult to pronounce maiden), she told me I could change it to whatever I wanted. Well...I did...and what torture it is to deal with now. The DMV won't let me get a new license, I can't renew my passport that expires in a week, so far I've had to complete two fingerprint cards at the sheriff's, pay and send an app to receive my FBI history, wait 7 wks, then mail the other set of prints to the CBI, then take 6 forms to the court to appear to officially change my name...all bc I was told I could. You would assume the SS office and DMV were ...I don't know... part of the same government, but no, apparently they "just do things differently" (DMV). And, btw, my new SS card is essentially worthless bc my bank won't allow me to even change my name on my acct until my DL matches the SS card. All bc I wanted to change my middle name. read more
