Jim called the day before to confirm our appointment and text an hour before our scheduled appointment to tell me he was on his way. He arrived and was very clean during the entire process. He finished ahead of schedule and the end result was amazing! Tinting my house Windows was a great decision. It keeps out direct sunlight lowering my electric bill considerably. The film that was applied did amazing in its reflective ability giving me the privacy I needed where I could see out my house and people could not see inside. My buddy went to James to get his tints done on his car windows and recommended him a couple days after he got his tints done. I wish I didn't go to James and so did my buddy. My friend's window tints faded within a couple of months and started bubbling. After all the disapointment of trying to correct the error on my tints that he blamed me for. James agreed on the full refund and when it came down to getting my money back he refused to give me my full refund and gave me only half. I drove back and forth from Sorrento Valley to Santee. Thank goodness I never let James take my car for a day! He kept on suggesting it since I had work. Never again!! This experience just ruined a nice person. Do not waste your time with this "tint company". Very unprofessional. As for my experience with James.. I called James and scheduled an appointment on a weekday since James wasn't available on the weekend. So I ask him for a estimated time of when he will finish. He gave me a estimated time and strongly pushed that he is able to get me a ride to drop me off and pick me up from work. I thought that was pretty sketchy so I just kept on telling him no. He gave the address to find out it was the address for Bumper Docs in Santee. James was about an hour late from our scheduled appointment. I questioned why he's doing his tinting at bumper docs and he mentioned that he's waiting on this office location . I was already there do I just wanted him to get it done. When james was done working on my car. My car smell like a strong scent of body odor from the tints. Ughh. He then informed me to wait at least 2-3 days until I can open my windows. So I did..... The first day I opened my windows it peeled right off the bottom. I of course called him right away to tell him and he pointed the issue at me and that I didn't wait long enough. Wow! When we tried to reschedule he kept on mentioning how he couldn't fix my tints on several days because he had his son and when we finally agreed on a day he had told me last minute that he had the stomach flu. Ugh. He finally re-tinted my windows but this time there are several air bubbles. I decided that was it and I wanted my money back. James agreed on the full refund and when it came down to getting my money back he refused to give me my full refund and gave me only half. Never again!! This experience just ruined a nice person. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH JAMES AND HIS CO. I later found out that he goes to the bumperdoc in convoy to use their garage to install tints too. read more

I had made an appointment with James after all the glowing reviews on yelp a couple of weeks ago. I was told to meet him at Bumper Doc work shop on Convoy st where he apparently rents a space to work out of. Not only did he not show up for the appointment, he did not answer my calls nor the calls made on my behalf by the nice people at Bumper Doc. I waited for over an hour. The people running Bumper Doc offered to tint the windows on my car for $50 more than what James quoted but by that time, it was already too late. I took time out of my and my friend's busy schedule to make the appointment on time and this guys did not even have the decency to make some kind of lame excuse for his blatant disregard for ditching the appointment. Your time is no more important than mine. I would give this business a negative star if I could. read more

James tinted our French doors 9 years ago and the tinting failed on a couple of them because they were open a lot so we had James redo them with exterior grade tinting. He showed up on time and completed the job quickly. I gave him four stars because of initial communication problems. read more

Got a new car and, of course, it needed to be tinted. The first person I thought of was James. As always, he is super accommodating. If you are reasonably close to him he will offer to pick up your car up and take it to his shop. I can't express how convenient that was for me! James Ferguson, the owner of this business, is the worst. If I could give negative stars I would. I have read the other 1 star reviews for him and all of those people have had similar situations to me. Almost 1 year ago I hired him to do window tinting for my business' windows. Everything turned out really great - he did a good job, was prompt, and was reasonably priced. He had also worked on a monument sign (the big signs displayed out in front of businesses) for a business down the street from me. That sign looked really good, so I hired him to replace my sign that needs to be updated badly. He came by and we had several meetings to plan the installation. I gave him his money and all was looking promising until the day before he was supposed to do the work. That's when the ish hit the fan and his customer service, work ethic, business practices, and all that is right with the world spiraled downward. He told me the acrylic sign did not look right from the manufacturer and he had to have them remake it. The sign would be delayed a little bit. Then a month or so later he told me the sign was finally ready, but the day before he was to do the work he "fell off a ladder and broke his neck." Work was going to be delayed a few months. I understood and felt empathetic and asked for my money back. He told me he did not have it. He also told me that outsourcing the job to another contractor is impossible because they all want too much and he didn't have the money. The kicker was this: His ex-girlfriend and mother of his child(ren) happens to be a client of mine. When she came in to purchase something from me my staff expressed condolences for him to her. I know they talk to each other, they have been to my business together before. She had no idea what we were talking about regarding his broken neck. That was when I started to feel like I had been scammed and fed lines about why the work wasn't being done. I had tried to contact him and he wouldn't answer his phone or emails for months. I finally sent him a letter in December threatening a lawsuit if he didn't reply. He emailed me and told me he had been out of town, etc., and he would be here in Feb 2019 to do the sign(s). At least I had heard from him finally and I felt that was a reasonable explanation. In Feb I got an email telling me that with all the rains, work was going to be delayed and he would be out here on March 14th. That week he emailed me again. The electrician he was working with was delayed because of the weather and they would be here on March 21. Today is March 22 and I have not heard from him in weeks. So today I am writing a bad review and filing a lawsuit and complaining to the BBB (which he is NOT accredited by with an A rating as he claims in his description on this page). I do not understand how he can own a business and be so shady and untrustworthy at the same time. It baffles my mind, as I am a small business owner myself. read more

so I made an appt for 9am on a Saturday. he doesn't give me an address, so I assume it's at the address on the Yelp page. wrong. it's a fake address (he'll say it's his office and that he doesn't do the tinting there, but nowhere on the list of businesses at that building does it say "SoCal Window ..."). I call him 3 times before he answers, it's now 9:20, saying his babysitter flaked on him. I said whatever, call me when you get one (full well not planning on meeting him). he never calls back. unprofessional is a huge understatement. feel like I dealt with a 16 year old stoner who just tints windows in his parents driveway. waste of time and sketchy to the max anyways. would way rather pay the extra 50$ for a business with a location that I could go back to if anything goes wrong. read more

Avoid James and find someone else. We had James do some film for our home and in the end I was so disappointed in his integrity, reliability and business practices. James is dishonest. He ran my credit card twice and played ignorant and also never refunded me an additional $35.00 which he owed me. James had requested half down for the materials and I provided him my credit card. The day prior to the job, I told him I would pay the balance with a check. A few weeks later I noticed on my cc statement that he had charged my card again after I had given him a check for the balance. It took him a few days to admit it and he blamed his "back office". I am 99.9% sure he does not have a back office. At that time he told me he had a lot of money tied up in a large project and that he would try and refund me asap. A week later I called the issuer and he had not processed the credit so I disputed it. If you do use him, then I suggest you don't give him your credit card information or you too may be funding him a free loan. James also owes me $35. He had promised me a check which never arrived. I asked about it a few times and was eventually told that it was mailed. Interestingly I never got it. The mail cannot be that bad. I asked him to redo one and it never arrived either. I am tired of dealing with him. Make sure if he owes you money that he pays you before you let him leave. James is unreliable too. He showed up a couple of hours late for the first appointment and blamed it on a baby sitter issue. I was ok with it. The odd thing was that he did not bring his ladder so he could not finish the work that day. He was aware we had high windows too. I also had to provide him with masking tape. We had to schedule another day so he could do the upper windows. He was also a couple of hours late the second time too and actually brought his son with him. His son kept my wife busy watching him run all over my house. I understand people have to manage things, but he needs to figure out how to do it better and more professionally. If you plan to use him, makes sure you have hours of spare time to waste waiting for him and that you can babysit his child when he is doing the work. James work is ok, and probably comparable to most people who do it. I just wish I had used someone else. I cannot stand dishonest people. One key item that anyone planning to have home window tint should consider is that it may look somewhat clear during the day, but you may not be able to see out at night. read more

I just had to write a review for, SoCal Window Tinting. I brought a Honda Civic Si and needed my windows tinted. I was looking for a new place to get them done, as the one I previously used to get all my cars tinted at has since gone out of business. I decided to look online and find a window tinting place and came across, SoCal Window Tinting, and inquired about their Tint and services. James helped to explain the differences between the tints, showed me the tint on his own vehicle, and told me they could squeeze me in on that same day! Keep in mind, I was just a walk-in. I did not have a prior appointment. James told me to come back in a few hours. Literally within 1.5hrs, I got a call back saying "your car is done" Sure enough, I get dropped back off there to pick up my civic. It looked great! So much better than before... I waited to write this review a few days later to really let the tint cure and adhere to the windows, and I must say that the job is PERFECT. I am truly amazed not only by the quality, but also the speed at which the job was completed. The friendly customer service provided by James was just icing on the cake. It's an office building. Socal window tinting isn't even on the directory. At least Kyle got a call from James to get an excuse about a babysitter. James won't even answer his phone or call me back. We hired James to add UV tinting to the windows in our house based on the glowing reviews on Yelp and good rating with the BBB. Unfortunately he decided to go through our pantry and steal food from our house when my husband left him alone at our place. When we found the evidence and my husband confronted him about it he did admit to what he did and apologized for it, but I can't even put into words how violated it left us feeling. I have used SoCal Window Tinting at my business as well as on my vehicle's. I'm extremely happy with the results. I had them frost the windows in my office so I could see out into my lobby, and not be eyeballed by my waiting customers, that is quite a benefit! We had our home windows tinted on the very sunny side of our house. Works awesome! I would guess it's cooler by a least 5-7 degrees. Let me just try to cut the story short and let you know that all these positive reviews is hard to believe and the negative is easy. I say that because I had to deal with James and go around his schedule just to get my tints corrected twice. The 3rd time was it! He used his son as a excuse to not handle his business and he blamed me for the peeling on my windows. Telling me that he has done this for years. If he has done this for years he would have known that since my car is brand new that he would have to have the film at least 1" (inch) below the rubber sil! He even had me to drive to bumper doc in Santee and gave me a FAKE WARRANTY! It wasn't even under him and it wasn't covered. When I asked for a refund he gave me 3/4 of it back! I didn't care anymore and just didn't want to deal with him. He is beyond rude and makes his BO stick in your car. When i brought it to a real more professional tint shop they even informed me that the film that James claims that he is using isn't even it. It's a way more cheaper film and pointed out that it was fading out already and it has only been 5 months. read more
