I came here to celebrate my daughter's birthday and I was pleased that they were expecting our party. I kick myself for not providing a review earlier this year, but I came back because I love the desert ambiance and food. We got a basket of chips to start but the first go around was kind of hard and chewy. We asked for more but it took awhile for them to get more to us. Once we got more, it was definitely more better, fresher and crispier in texture. I remember that in my first visit, we had three salsas. This visit, there was only one :(. What we had Ceviche De Pescado - Super fresh and flavorful. Good shareable item. Branzino Plate - Good seasoning on this and it was accompanied with an arugula salad. This didn't come with tortillas, so I asked for some to accompany this. This looked a little different from last time. Surf and Turf Quesdillas - This was a massive dish! Get this if you're super hungry or share this dish. Churro de Carjeta - This comes with ice cream and this is freshly fried. This was absolutely delicious! Highly recommend. Friendly wait staff and love the photos op near the bar area. Parking can be limited at peak hours.

Sobremesa is a latin/Mediterranean- inspired restaurant in eastern La Mesa, not too far from where I work. I had been planning to check it out for quite some time. I saw a flyer for salsa dancing lessons on Wednesday nights, so I called up one of my dance friends to head out and brush up on our skills. As I was parking, I received a text from my friend letting me know that they didn't have a turnout for salsa, so they canceled dance nights. Since we were already there, we decided to have a light dinner. The restaurant is absolutely stunning. The outside is modern and has desert landscaping. The inside is spacious with high ceilings and mediterranean archways. It is really almost too fancy for the neighborhood. It feels very transforming when you walk in the door, almost as though you are in Morocco. My friend was already seated when I arrived. They had already brought house chips and salsa. The chips were fresh and crunchy, and the salsa had a nice kick. My friend called it "real salsa". We ordered a bottle of the Syrah, but, unfortunately, they were out, so we settled on a bottle of Tempranillo. My friend and I shared the ceviche and the empanadas. I feel that both were very good. The portions were pretty generous, and I feel the prices were reasonable. Service had started out really good, but it trailed off a bit. Though our server was really nice, my friend had to walk to the bar to ask a question about the menu. I found that I was waiting a while for more water, and we also had to wait some time for our check. All in all, it was a positive experience. I was definitely bummed that they didn't have the salsa lessons. The restaurant was beautiful and the food was good. I would like to return for happy hour and try some more menu items.

Tried the tacos, oysters, aguachile, and a few drinks at Sobremesa, and overall it was a great experience. I have to say, the tacos were the star of the meal! I was honestly a little skeptical at first, but wow they were absolutely delicious and packed with flavor. The aguachile was decent. It had good flavor, but I was expecting a bit more spice since it wasn't very spicy. The oysters were fresh and a nice addition to the meal. The drinks were also really good and complemented everything perfectly. The service was friendly and attentive, and the staff made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. The ambiance was inviting with a fun, lively atmosphere that made it a great spot to relax, enjoy good food, and have drinks with friends. Overall, I'd definitely come back for the tacos and cocktails they were the highlights of the experience!

Sobremesa has been on my list ever since it opened about seven months ago in the San Carlos/Lake Murray area, and when they launched brunch around six weeks ago, I knew I needed to finally get over there. I made it in this morning with our Gals That Brunch crew, and they absolutely knocked it out of the park. Karen took such amazing care of us and was genuinely the sweetest. She was warm, attentive, patient, and made our whole group feel so welcomed from beginning to end. I ordered the breakfast burrito and almost talked myself out of it because sometimes a breakfast burrito can feel like the basic choice, but this one was genuinely so good. The ingredients tasted fresh and high quality, the eggs were fluffy, the sausage and bacon were flavorful, and the breakfast potatoes were delicious. I would absolutely recommend upgrading it to the gratinado style, topped with Monterey Jack, poblano green sauce, and oven baked. I really think that is what made the whole thing sing. I looked at the size of it and immediately thought, "There is no way I'm finishing this. I'll save half for later." But it was so good that I just kept eating, and suddenly there was no half left to take home. Their cocktail and mocktail selection is also incredible. I am a guava and passion fruit person through and through, so this menu was speaking directly to me. A bunch of us ordered the Guava Spritz, and it was so refreshing. Everyone at the table agreed it was officially the drink of the summer and that we could easily sip them all afternoon. Sobremesa, please keep the Guava Spritzes coming because we are obsessed. I also ordered an iced coffee, and it was delicious, refreshing, and a genuinely good-quality cup of coffee. The rest of the table was equally impressed. One of the gals sitting next to me ordered the Churro French Toast, which was essentially half a loaf of bread in the very best way. It was warm, ooey-gooey, decadent, and topped with ice cream. It is definitely sweet, so I would personally skip the extra syrup next time, but it was heavenly. Several people at our table ordered the chilaquiles, and I got lots of enthusiastic thumbs up. And do not even get me started on the design of the restaurant. It is immaculate. You can tell that so much care and intention went into every single detail, from the gorgeous bar to the architectural cutouts, cubby-style niches, finishes, and overall layout. Every choice feels thoughtful. It would be such a dreamy little date-night spot, a perfect place for brunch with the girls, or somewhere to celebrate a birthday, shower, or special occasion. They have plenty of space, a cute private area, and I know they host other events as well, which makes me excited to come back and experience the restaurant in a completely different way. There is also plenty of parking, which is always a gift in San Diego. Honestly, Sobremesa feels like such a hidden gem. I was not super familiar with the immediate neighborhood before visiting, but now I am already looking for an excuse to come back. The word "sobremesa" refers to the time spent lingering around the table after a meal, talking, connecting, and enjoying the company you are with. After spending the morning here, I cannot think of a more fitting name. Beautiful space, delicious food, thoughtful drinks, wonderful service, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile. We will absolutely be back.

We were immediately impressed by the cute décor and welcoming atmosphere when we walked in. We visited on a Wednesday during happy hour, and the restaurant was surprisingly quiet. Our hostess, who was also serving tables, was friendly, informative, and genuinely engaging. She left about halfway through our visit, and after that service declined noticeably. The remaining server seemed overwhelmed once he became the only person covering the floor, more and more guests arrived. The menu features several unique twists and creative flavor combinations that mostly work well. The guacamole, topped with roasted chickpeas, was especially delicious. Unfortunately, the chips were inconsistent--some tasted fresh while others seemed stale. We also ordered the brussels sprouts and carne tacos. The brussels sprouts were decent but heavily covered in a mayo-based sauce; a lighter touch would have allowed the flavors to shine through. The tacos had great potential, with delicious homemade tortillas, but the carne was disappointingly chewy and fatty. The cocktails were enjoyable and well-balanced, but they seemed a bit small for the price and not particularly strong.

It's nice to finally see a vibey, aesthetic dining option in East County -- Sobremesa delivers on that front. We came here with family visiting from out of town. It's located in a strip mall with plenty of parking, and the restaurant itself is surprisingly large with multiple areas. On the left there's a beautiful bar, a private dining room with big windows (likely for events), a cute entryway with photo ops, and even a DJ setup. I asked the hostess and they do music on certain nights, which sounds fun to check out. Our hostess was friendly and quickly sat our party of six in a semi‑private area. The music was nice, and the warm color palette with soft plaster‑style walls made the space feel inviting. Our server was friendly and answered all our questions. We came on a Sunday during the tail end of happy hour -- love seeing a weekend happy hour. They even had a mocktail option, which I ordered, and my partner got a mezcal cocktail that was also good. The menu, however, felt overpriced for the portion sizes, and if it weren't for the happy hour pricing on a few items, I would've found it too expensive for what you get. We ordered the chamoy wings, carne asada tacos, surf & turf taco, ceviche, and queso fundido. For dessert, we tried the churros and the pan de elote. Drinks came out slowly, and as we waited, a server came around with a platter of cucumber and lemon slices for water -- a unique touch. The food took a long time, especially the wings. We almost canceled them because everyone else was nearly done eating by the time they arrived. The server did explain the fryer was having issues, but it was still unfortunate. The chamoy wings sounded unique, but they didn't look or taste like chamoy -- not bad, just misleading. The queso fundido was small and had more veggies than cheese, so it didn't really taste like queso fundido. And the ceviche didn't come with tostadas or chips, which was odd; we asked, and the server kindly brought some. If they improve their speed and tweak the menu, I could see Sobremesa becoming a great spot. If I lived in the area and wanted something a little more unique or elevated, I'd come back. But for me, I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to return.

I had to ask for more red onions from my other dish. There was absolutely no flavor

1 star for the great ambiance but that's about it. We really tried to like it! Chips were stale, flautas cold and bland. Rib eye tacos. Onions cilantro, ribeye. Bad cuts of the meat. The green sauce bland. Sobre Rita... watery. Even the Modelo on draft was off. It wasn't busy but the drinks took a min Great IG pics but definitely wish I could find parking at casa Gabriela! The sever was okay. It was an akward atmosphere as far as staff. Food is not worth the price and drinks are very Mexico City. They definetly need to elevate the food to match the look. I'm very sad I've been wanting to try this place for months. Casa Gabriela is the place to go. Even Vallartas. The food was not even taco shop Status.

I remember dining at this San Carlos address when it was a popular barbeque joint that had debuted several years ago. The business has now closed and has been replaced by this Latin American restaurant. After a significant renovation of the space, Sobremesa opened late last year. The ownership really spruced up both the exterior and interior to give it an upscale feel reflective of a coastal resort south of the border. All of the on-site parking spaces were filled during my visit so I parked at the next door shopping plaza and walked over. A large bar and lounge area was to the left when you entered. It was mainly empty while I was there. The rest of the dining room could seat close to 100 customers. The entire place featured wood and neutral tones. A two-page menu displayed seafood appetizers, tostadas, and tacos on the left side. Veggies choices, entrees, and desserts were listed on the right side. My initial selection was the Chilean Sea Bass, however a server informed me that the kitchen was sold out of this item for the evening. I pivoted to the other fish entree which was the Pescado a la Talla. Two seared branzino fillets were marinated with garlic and chili adobo. Blistered shishito peppers and an arugula salad were the sides. A separate plate also came with the order containing Mexican rice, refried beans, and corn tortillas. A set of three salsas was also provided which I used sparingly because of their heat. The food came out much quicker than I expected. It made me wonder if it had already been prepared and just reheated. The peppers were too spicy for my palate so I placed those aside. The fish was rather dry as I scraped the meat from the skin. I placed some of it inside a tortilla with the rice and beans to make a soft taco for consumption. I gave three stars for the execution of my entree. The excellent service was why I added another star to my overall rating of Sobremesa.

This place was average at best. Service was bad. The tables were wobbly and for whatever reason, the server decided to hold off on entering our order until we finished our appetizer. It would've been nice if he had asked us if that's what we wanted, prior to making that decision for us. Ambiance is nice.

Ummmm...churro French toast is way beyond the expectations.

Yum. A definite brunch that satisfies the eye as well as the palate. Good to have Sombremesa in the neighborhood. Great menu and full bar with specialty drinks. A definite brunch for the weekend.

Sobremesa: a latin flavor gem! Turning the dishes we grew up with and elevating them another level * Crafty tequila and mezcal cocktails * Trucha con Leche de Tigre * Taco Gringa * Ribeye Carne Asada * Queso Fundido Server was knowledgeable and every recommendation hit. Very clean and inviting woody interior.

We had an amazing meal here. Service was excellent from start to finish. They set the tone right away with complimentary tostadas and chips while we waited, and they even brought fresh lime for our water without us asking. The space is also beautifully decorated. Warm lighting, thoughtful details, and a clean, modern vibe made the whole experience feel special. Every dish hit with bold, unique flavor combos. The grilled prawns were smoky and perfectly cooked. The rich, tender main dish with the deep, savory sauce was a standout. The charred veggie side had great crunch and balance, and the fresh herb and pickled toppings added brightness to every bite. Drinks were fun and well made. We'll be back.

As a Colombian who has been craving authentic Colombian cuisine since my last visit to New York in…read moreDecember, I can confidently say this restaurant truly satisfied those cravings. Being nearly eight months pregnant, my expectations were especially high, and it is rare to find a place that meets them so well. From the seasoning of the food to the warm and attentive service, everything about this restaurant stands out. Although I don't recall my server's name, he was incredibly kind and provided excellent service throughout. The ambiance is also worth noting--the space is large, offers plenty of seating options, and even features a large TV, making it a great spot to relax or watch sports. To start, I ordered a watered mango juice along with a beef empanada. The empanada exceeded my expectations--despite being on the smaller side, it was packed with flavor. I enjoyed it so much that I ordered five more to go, which speaks for itself. They were served with fresh ají, a traditional sauce that complemented them perfectly. For my main course, I had the carne asada plate, which included steak, rice, beans, sweet plantains, avocado, tomato slices, and a small arepa. Every component of the dish was well-executed--the beans were flavorful, the meat was well-seasoned, and the overall plate felt authentic. It is often difficult to find truly authentic Colombian food, especially in San Diego, where options are limited or not genuinely Colombian. This restaurant, however, delivers on authenticity and flavor. The portion size was generous, and I ended up taking leftovers home to enjoy later. In addition to the empanadas (two chicken and three beef), I also ordered a buñuelo and a cheese arepa to go. Unfortunately, these items did not meet the same standard. The arepa lacked flavor and was overly greasy, and the buñuelo was dry and similarly oily, even after absorbing excess grease from the bag. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for Colombian food, especially given how rare it is to find quality options in this area. Friends of mine visited recently as well and thoroughly enjoyed their bandeja paisa, further confirming the consistency of the food. I will definitely be returning--especially for those empanadas.

I liked some of the meats here, but others meats just weren't for me. We got a little bit of certain cuts of meat.. St. Louis cut ribs, tri-tip- brisket, and chorizo link, jalapeños cheddar link and their central Texas hot link. Mac and cheese and potato salad and coleslaw. My husband and I really enjoyed the brisket the sausage links, the potato salad and coleslaw. The tri-tip unfortunately was kinda dry and the ribs were a little tough. And the Mac and cheese were super garlicky. This bbq place is ok, it's nice and big and has a nice relaxing atmosphere. But I would stick to the brisket and hot links and the sides.

Jeff, the bartender, even created a custom cocktail just for me, and it was absolutely phenomenal. He clearly knows what he's doing, creating drinks that are expertly crafted, delicious, and the perfect complement to the meal. The food is absolutely outstanding every course is flavorful, delicate, and beautifully presented. You can truly taste the care, precision, and creativity that goes into every course. Each bite was memorable and perfectly balanced. The ambiance is elegant, comforting, and beautiful. The restaurant has a warm, inviting atmosphere that allows you to relax while still feeling like you're enjoying a truly special occasion. One of the highlights of the evening was when Chef came out to speak with us. What an amazing experience. He was incredibly charming, gracious, and passionate about his craft. Taking the time to connect with guests added such a personal touch and made the evening even more memorable. To top it all off, our server, Alex, provided the best service I have ever received anywhere, from the patio experience to inside the dining room. His attention to detail, professionalism, warmth, and genuine passion for hospitality elevated an already incredible evening. He explained every dish with confidence, and made us feel genuinely cared for throughout the entire meal. Valle is much more than a restaurant it's an experience. Every aspect of the evening came together flawlessly, and I can't wait to return.

We've been to many Michelin stars restaurants but the first experience was never like this. Usually, we'd be offered a seat or the bar while we waited. Our parties were finally arrived so we were seated out on the patio. Can't complain much since we had live summer concert from the beach and the sun kissing your skin. We were offered a refreshment drink which tasted refreshing. Champagne and caviar service came after. The condiments that came with the caviar service were spot on but the vessels they were in were too big, the spoons were too chunky for the tiny diced egg whites, yokes, shallots and chives. The summer menu was much better compared to the fall menu. We enjoyed the foods thoroughly. Final bill were 2,400 for a party of five with no wine pairing. Unfortunately, this would be our last time dining here. Since the experience from reception turned us off which dampened a more superior service from the patio and the main dining room.

The table, the servers, the food, the valet guys... literally everything about our experience from the moment we stepped out of the car was perfect. It was super fancy with zero pretentiousness. This is not cause I'm fan-girling out... it really was a nice time. So since everything was so good.. what do I talk about? The duck hash was super good and had big chunks of duck mixed into the kimchi and sweet potatoes. The French toast was really surprising because the bread itself had a lemony flavor. Everyone at the table was happy with their choices so it's like, why should I call out specific items? Everything is good.

One is a coffee house. The third is a very nice restaurant, which turned out to be a highlight of our stay at the Alila Maria Beach Resort Encinitas. We found the service to be amazing and the food to be spectacular! Even prior to arriving to the resort, I had called the resort and VAGA to inquire as to whether they had salmon or other dishes that my wife could eat. While there wasn't anything on the menu, they did say that they may be serving salmon if they run out of the fish on the menu. We figured there were vegetarian dishes for a backup, so we went ahead and made a reservation on Open Table. I was delighted to even have a manager give me a call to ask questions and to note that we were celebrating my birthday. We later learned at check-in that World of Hyatt Globalist members (which I am) receive a complimentary Amuse-Bouche at VAGA with dinner service and a complimentary wellness juice shot with breakfast service. Upon arriving to our dinner reservation, we were greeted at the check-in counter by the manager who happened to be the one who called me. He recalled my name and wished me a happy birthday. He then escorted my wife and me to a lovely table inside with a nice view of the water. Between the manager and the server, we had a lot of attention and people checking in on us to ensure our meal was great. We declined the Amuse-Bouche (as I don't eat fish) and instead received a complimentary order of Yuzu Honey Parker Rolls, which consisted of garlic butter, chives, and honey Yuzu butter. They were absolutely delicious!! We then ordered the Sage Hill Heirloom Tomato & Cucumbers consisting of red olive, onion, feta mousse, and dill ladolemono dressing, which my wife really enjoyed. I ordered a tasty and filling dish of the Stout Braised Short Rib (charred leek polenta, Granny Smith salsa, rainbow chard, and roasted root vegetables). My wife ordered the salmon dish after all since they were out of one of the fish dishes; she enjoyed it! For dessert, we were brought out a birthday dessert of the Malted Chocolate Bomb (malted milk semifreddo, milk chocolate feuilletine, and black salt cocoa gems). This dessert was delicious! The next morning, we went bright and early on a Monday morning for brunch, and we were among the only guests there at that time. We sat right near the window inside to see the water and the sun having just risen. We both tried the wellness juice shots though they weren't our thing. My wife enjoyed a VAGA Scramble dish consisting of scrambled eggs, oven roasted tomato, crispy herb potatoes, and instead of a choice of meat, she ordered some fresh fruit. I went for the Sunrise Sandwich with a folded egg, morita aioli, smoked cheddar, apple, arugula, miso dressing, crispy herb potatoes, rockenwagner English muffin, and Bok Choy. Instead of the house-made Maple-Thyme pork, I went for chicken sausage. I asked for fruit instead of the potatoes. I also ordered orange juice. We both later ordered an incredible chocolate croissant to go. Again, we were delighted with each meal we ordered. VAGA explores San Diego's ever-changing confluence of culture and wanderlust from ocean food to farm food. They offer dinner, brunch, and a lounge and bar with outdoor and indoor spaces. Breakfast is Monday through Thursday from 7 AM to 11 AM. Brunch is Friday from 7 AM to 2 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 7 AM to 3 PM. Dinner is Sunday through Thursday from 5 PM to 9 PM and Friday and Saturday from 5 PM to 10 PM. The bar and lounge is open Monday through Thursday from 3 PM to 10 PM, Friday from 11 AM to Midnight, Saturday from 10 AM to Midnight, and Sunday from 10 AM to 10 PM. Being a Globalist member, you receive a complimentary breakfast for up to two adults and two children. Having paid with the American Express Fine Hotel & Resorts program, we receive breakfast for two along (valued at $45 per person) along with a $150 resort credit, which we applied to the dinner. Should we visit the Alila Maria Beach Resort Encinitas again, we will DEFINITELY visit VAGA again for a tasty meal!! We certainly recommend this amazing restaurant with great service to others.

The fish taco was also delicious and I liked their homemade hot sauce that I wish I bought a bottle. The ahi nachos had delicious fish but the fish was disproportionate to the amount of chips that they gave us, so we were unable to finish the massive pile of chips. Lastly, the pistachio flan was a great ending to our meal and we left very happy and full. The service was excellent and the ambiance inside is beautiful. Parking is all around the area but can get crowded because of the other places to eat around there, be patient , people are coming and going . All the dishes we tried were delicious. The scallops negro was a good appetizer along with the crab enchiladas which was a decent proportion sized dish . We had to try the "La Super Tabla" . It's quite much for 2 people but with a party of 3-4 , you'll take it down easy. I like everything on this specific dish except the pork belly. It was quite tough to eat, might have been over cooked but it did have flavor , the pieces were kind of hard . The octopus was flavorful and the steak was very tender even though it was cooked well done , we requested medium rare but it was still tender. The calamari was also a tiny bit tough , it was more like a calamari steak, and a tiny bit chewy. The octopus was delicious , soft not chewy and the shrimp was yum. Last but least, the Flan for dessert. Flan is my favorite dessert and the pistachio flan made here was awesome , it's a must try if you have room for dessert . Definitely will be coming back next time I'm in the desert.
