You can't really get away from the low $200 per night in Avalon but the Snug was wonderful. They placed a bottle of gratis champagne for our anniversary stay and the hotel pays attention to personal details. We stayed in the Santa Cruz room. Yes it is was small (lowest priced room), but don't let the size fool you. It had a partial ocean view (see photo) and overall it was great! It overlooks a shopping street and main ocean front plaza (can be loud) but the thick windows block a lot of the noise! There is a ceiling fan and AC so that the room temperature is perfect with keeping the windows closed if you need to. Fireplace, Bose radio, sound soother machine and two complimentary bottles of water. I also like their sister property Vista Del Mar. The Snug has breakfast in bed and late afternoon wine and cheese! No mini refrigerators (darn) but all king beds. The beds and pillows rock! Close to everything. You won't be disappointed. read more

My husband took me to Catalina for my birthday for a 3 day getaway and we stayed at Snug Harbor Inn. This place is amazing. The rooms are cozy and all come with a working fireplace. The beds are large and very comfortable. They offer a breakfast every morning and bring it to your room in a cute basket. Coffee, yogurt, granola, juice, and a loaf of delicious freshly baked bread (different favors each morning, we got poppy seed and cran-raspberry). Each evening from 5-6pm they offer complimentary wine and appetizers (cheese, nuts, and others) in their little living room area. The staff is great and very hospitable. This will definitely be our spot to stay at during our next visit. Please note you may need to book early as there are only 6 room in the Inn, so they fill up fast. read more

The Snug Harbor Inn was not what I had expected, because it was so much more! What an incredible experience it was to stay here! Alex at check in was knowledgeable about events going on around the island, good places to eat, and had a cheerful pleasant demeanor. He really makes you feel welcome. The room was gorgeous and warm with a lovely fireplace fresh flowers and champagne chilling on ice. Around 5pm in a lounge room they offer a cheese platter and wine which had many varieties of cheese, and caprese salad orderves. Staying here was a memory I'll never forget and an amazing way to spend a birthday!! read more

LOVED IT. the nautical decor, impeccable service, and overall "island mood" this place inspires really makes you feel like you've gone 1000 miles away from LA, a true vacation from this crazy city. and all the extra little things really perfected the experience--the slippers in the rooms, the selection of herbal teas, the free DVDs available for borrowing as well as free wifi, and of course the hors-d'oeuvres happy hour and breakfast presented in an unbelievably cute basket. with their deal that includes the round trip ferry price, it was also very reasonable pricing (for off-season at least). definitely staying here again next time we visit!! read more

Even with that I am writing this review, I don't think I can fully express my impression about this great hotel experience in snug harbor inn. Since I had a lot of other things were going together with my marriage, me and my wife decide to go to express honeymoon for few days somewhere close by, And we choose snug harbor inn in Catalina island over great yelp reviews. This hotel truly deserves more than five stars I think, There were only 7 or 8 rooms as far I remember, and we stayed in anacapa room that gives excellently clean,nicely decorated with cozy island atmosphere around with ocean view. Service was very intensive and detailed. Daily room service breakfast was lovely and delicious as well as evening time wine serving with great treatments. Was great enough feel that we've invited privately and VIP treated with hotel's staff 's best warm attention. Since it is already best rated hotel and they only have few rooms, it may not very easy to book in a short time. But booking with this hotel suppose to be the first thing you should do if you want that you really like to complete your stay in Catalina island. read more

I took my girlfriend to Catalina for her birthday and we stayed at Snug Harbor Inn. It was fantastic! The rooms are very nice (Anacapa was ours) and they provided a high level of service: from holding our luggage prior to check in; delivering luggage to the room so it was there when we arrived; coordination for special items for her birthday; the very nice wine & cheese time in the evening; the lovely continental breakfast with fresh bread, fruit, cereal, yogurt; and the level of attention to detail to make sure that our stay was nice. My husband and I stayed here for our ten year anniversary and loved it. It was our first time on the island and the staff was very friendly and also very helpful with dinner and activity suggestions. Our room was ready early and we were greeted with Champagne, Flowers and Balloons. The breakfast brought to our room in the morning was such a nice touch and the fresh baked sweet breakfast bread made the hotel smell amazing. The room as well as the entire hotel were immaculate. The bed was very comfy and the room just had a nice feel with the fire place, wide screen tv and jetted tub. I just wish we had more time but we can not wait to return. read more

Perfect!! From the moment we walked in. Perfect location, service, wine and cheese, booking reservations for dinner and zip lining. Super cute breakfast basket they bring to your room at the time you specify. Cute bed down service with cute lighting, music and a dark chocolate on your bed side table. I loved the intimicy. Great experience. Staff was super nice, rooms are clean and well decorated, the breakfast was delicious, the location is perfect. I can't think of anything that was not top notch. When we go back, we will stay here again, no doubt. They even held our luggage after we checked out until later in the day when our ship was leaving. This place is great! My girlfriend and I spent two nights here (Jan 9-11) and had a great time. Though there isn't much to do in town, this inn had all the things we were looking for. We checked in before the room was ready, and they let you store your bags there (even after you check out if you're waiting for the boat). We got a call about an hour later that our room was ready. When we got back to the front desk, Alex took care of us very well. He gave us quick tour of the hotel and our room. They have a very courteous staff. They have very comfy beds, super clean rooms, and great amenities. We stayed in the Anacapa room which is definitely the most spacious. The room had a nice flat screen TV above the fire place, and they even have free dvds/blue rays to check out. It's not the best selection, but we watched a couple of flicks while we were there. Next time I might bring some along! One of the best things about this place is the breakfast they bring to your room in the morning. You pick what time and what you want in it. I just wish that bacon and eggs were an option! It was a delicious way to start the day, nonetheless. Also, from 5-6 p.m. they have a free wine and cheese happy hour for you to enjoy in the lounge. I definitely recommend this place to folks that are staying overnight on the island. We will be back!!! read more

We just arrived home from a day and night getaway and stayed at the Snug Harbor Inn. We had a wonderful time and felt as though the staff would do anything they could to help make us comfortable. We arrived before our room was prepared, but after exploring Avalon we received a phone call saying our room was ready. By the time we arrived back at the Inn, the person on duty took us to our room which, but that time, our luggage was already placed in the room. Though the room we had was on the small size, there was enough fine ambiance to not think ill of the place. As advertized, wine and cheese were served between 5 and 6 pm. We also were surprised when we arrived back to our room to find that the staff had turned down the bed for the night. We paid for the Romance Package which included breakfast in the morning which was delivered on time, placed in a big basket. There was more than enough to eat with fresh strawberries, cereal, yogurt, and warm bread served with coffee and orange juice. Prior to sleep you can lay around wearing soft comfortable robes for two to watch TV on a large Samsung flat screen placed over the fireplace; we did not use the jacuzzi tube. Our reservation went smoothly as well as Snug Harbor setting up our boat crossing reservations. All went without a hitch. We would highly recommend the Inn. read more

Recently went to Catalina to celebrate my wife's birthday. We had booked a room for one night at the snug Harbor inn. The staff was cordial, gracious, and friendly. Our boat docked about seven hours prior to our check-in time. The hotel was very accommodating and allowing us to store our bags until we can check-in. They took my cell phone number and promised to call when the room was ready. The call came in about three hours prior to check-in time and they allowed us to move into our room and freshen up. Each room is different, ours was exceptionally comfortable, clean, and very well appointed. Each night between five and six. They serve wine and hors d'oeuvres. When we returned to our room after dinner and a walk around town. We found our bed turned down with the delightful chocolate on each pillow. On the morning of the day we were to check out a continental breakfast consisting of surreal, fresh fruit, and a fresh baked loaf of banana bread was delivered to our room. Shortly after this treat there was a knock at our door and the manager informed us that due to gail force winds. The Catalina express would not be departing at any time during the day. At first we were very concerned that we wouldn't have a room to stay in that night. But the manager quickly informed us that not only could we stay in our same room with the normal room rate would be slashed dramatically due toour being stranded. Our experience on Catalina as a whole was very enjoyable, but the management and staff of the snug Harbor and went above and beyond for us. We are already planning our next trip to Catalina and would not think of staying anywhere else. read more

Just got back yesterday from a two night stay at the Snug Harbor Inn -- I wish we never had to leave! This place was enchanted and I can't wait for our next stay. My husband and I booked the Santa Catalina room for our first anniversary trip and they had a bottle of champagne waiting for us upon arrival. The room was a great size, the decor was adorable, there were a lot of windows and natural light, with spectacular views of the beach, the Avalon Casino, and the main street. This room is on the second story (I think the entire inn is) and looks out onto the heart of the town. Perfect for people watching. They had complimentary wine and hor d'oeurves each day, which we enjoyed..maybe a little too much... ;) and the staff was so friendly and helpful. They truly thought of everything. Since the room is right above the main road, they provided cute sleep masks and ear plugs, which we didn't end up needing, but others might definitely appreciate the thoughtful provision. The entire time we were in Catalina, we'd see the other hotels and wonder why anyone would stay anywhere else. :) read more

If you are looking for a quiet, romantic, well appointed place to stay in Avalon, this is the place! There are only 6 rooms and each is unique. A wonderful breakfast of fruit, yogurt, granola, juice, coffee, and loaf of fresh baked bread is served in your room each morning. The staff serves up wine and some snacks every evening that can be enjoyed in the lounge area or taken to your room. My daughter and I stayed here during our first visit to Catalina Island this past week -- what a wonderful place! The location is perfect - a short walk to everything on the island. The room itself was comfortable and inviting, with a fireplace to help ward off the evening chill! The afternoon wine, fruit, and cheese is a lovely touch. The breakfast was filling, nutritious, and delicious. Another service that the Snug Harbor Inn offers which really made our stay fantastic: they will hold luggage both before your stay and after check out. This made it easy for us to have a 2 day hands-free visit to the island, with no lugging of bags after our 11am check out. Can only add to the high reviews of this wonderful Inn. We stayed here this past weekend in the Santa Catalina room and were so impressed with how beautiful this place is. You cannot beat the view of the harbor from this room. They allowed us to drop our bags off early and called us as soon as our room was ready at 11am. As soon as you walk into the Inn, you can smell the delicious breakfast loaves they are preparing for your breakfast. They remembered that we were celebrating my fiance's birthday and had balloons waiting for him when we checked in. They also had amazing complimentary wine and delicious tomato and mozzarella appetizers, artichoke dip with crackers, and salami waiting for us and the other guests at 5pm. We sipped our wines from our chairs in front of our beautiful windows and toasted to a wonderful Catalina visit. We were concerned about the noise level at night because of some of the Yelp reviews we'd seen, but it was absolutely quiet after 9pm. Could be because we were here on a Sunday night? Read previous reviews on yelp and decided to stay here. (Perfect stay for a couple) No complaints at all. Bottle of wine,flowers and balloons at arrival in our room. Free dvd rentals at front desk to watch on flat screen in room. Wine and cheese served in the evening between 5-6. Also bath robes available for use (can't keep or they'll charge you) but you can keep the slippers and eye covers. They also put earplugs on both nightstands incase the noise outside bothers you (Inn is located on main walk), it didn't bother us at all. They also put chocolate in our room while we were out for the day which was a nice surprise. They also serve light breakfast so don't forget to fill out request that comes in your folder or ask front desk at check in. They stored our luggage since we got there early and they called us as soon as room was ready which was a couple of hours before check in time. They even stored our luggage after check out since our boat didn't leave until later in the day. If you're looking for a nice cozy place, You wont be dissapointed. Love this place! I've stayed in many 5 star hotels and let me tell you, the Snug Harbor Inn should be ranked among them! The service was excellent, we were greeted with a warm welcome and we were escorted to our room (I loved that). The room was just gorgeous, flowers on the table with champagne chilling. The bed was so comfortable it felt like home. The jetted tube was great and was spotless, no hard water stains, no strange sludge stuff that can build up around the jets! Cleanliness in a hotel is my biggest concern and this hotel didn't let me down. I can go on and on about this place but I will spare you. We stayed in the San Nicolas room and the view of Avalon Harbor is spectacular. One more detail, this one is very important to me also, I could not hear my neighbors in the next rooms! I am one of those people who cannot tolerate hearing people staying in the rooms next to me. Love this place and my anniversary could not have been any better. read more

My wife & I stayed here a couple of weeks ago & loved it. This was our first visit to Catalina and it was a spur of the moment trip while we were visiting San Diego. The staff at the Inn were all very friendly and welcoming, Rita who took our reservation and also the other 2 people we met, sorry we can't remember your names. We arrived just before noon, how nice that our room was already available so we checked in early which was great. We knew immediately that we had made the right choice in where to stay. We came back later in the afternoon after our hybrid bike rides to find wine, cheese, crackers & dips in the lounge. We had eaten a late lunch so after the wine & cheese we really did not feel like going out for dinner. Instead we enjoyed a long soak in our deep jacuzzi tub and then watched a couple of recently released movies from the comfort of our bed,, compliments of the Inn. We were hungry when we woke up the next morning so were pleased wihen our continental breakfast was delivered to our room and so nicely set up at the table for us to enjoy, and enjoy we did. The warm freshly baked lemon poppyseed loaf was yummy, and after fresh fruit, yogurt & granola, juice & actually good tasting coffee, we were ready for our seadoo experience. We had to check out of the hotel before we left on our water adventure but we were offered a place to safely keep our luggage. Our boat was leaving at 4.30pm but we were able to still use the Inn throughout the day, including the lounge & restroom, change our clothes etc...before our trip back to the mainland. We were impressed with Snug Harbor and would definitely stay there again. P.S. LOVED the shower too. read more

Snug Harbor Inn is a perfect place for a visit to Catalina. Not only is the location excellent, but the rooms are very attractive and immaculate. The staff is extremely helpful and courteous and the afternoon wine & hors d'ouevres were top-notch. The "continental" breakfast was essentially a full breakfast with freshly made and warm cranberry-orange loaf. My husband & I just spent the weekend here for our first anniversary. We were so thrilled with our experience. From the very first phone call that I made for reservations, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. When we arrived, our room was ready almost three hours before check-in, and they were happy to let us in early. We had reserved the Santa Cruz suite, and we loved it. Everything was very cozy, cute and clean. The bathroom had a jetted jacuzzi tub, which the hubby and I took advantage of more than once. The bed was comfortable and huge; we even had a fireplace. The hotel serves complimentary wine and snacks, which was a nice little treat. Breakfast is served to your room at a time that you specify. Really! Breakfast in bed, every morning. Its awesome. It arrives in an adorable wicker basket, with fruit, greek yogurt, granola, a yummy bread loaf (flavors vary), milk, coffee or tea, and juice. It was amazing, and delicious. Our anniversary was on Sunday, and I had brought the top layer of our cake, champagne, a wine bottle from our wedding, our engraved champagne flutes and serving ware, rose petals, etc. Alex was extremely great with everything. He helped me to surprise my husband by storing everything special behind the front desk, and when we left for dinner, he decorated the room (per my request). When we returned from dinner, the room was beautiful, with a roaring fireplace, everything beautifully displayed, champagne on ice, and rose petals all over the bed and table, by our cake. It was amazing. Did I also mention, the inn offers complimentary DVDs to borrow and comfy, terry-cloth robes? My husband and I had a magical weekend, and Snug Harbor's staff played a huge role in that. We are customers for life. Any time we visit the island in the future, we will always plan to stay here. Always. Snug Harbor knows how to run a business, how to treat people, and they pay attention to the details. It's like a cozy home away from home. They really take great care of you. After we checked out, they were even happy to store our things until the ferry arrived, over five hours later! This place is worth every penny. We absolutely loved it.
