The family friendliness is gone. The daycare is gone. The daytime weekly mom's on the mountain is gone. Even the plugs for crockpots are gone. Can you believe even the complimentary check-in for skis is gone It's all corporate. It's all Vail. Yes, your epic pass will work. The mountain hasn't changed. But the people and the vibe that used to make Roundtop a special place for families is nowhere to be seen. A special note to anyone from Vail, who happens to read this. There is is a family of five skiers that grew up at Roundtop because I brought them there. The mothers were able to ski during the week with the babies and toddlers. There was daycare for the babies and toddlers. There were plugs for the crockpot for the lunches downstairs. It's all gone. The only thing left is the purchase price and share value of the corporation. Where do you expect the next generation of skiers to come from?

It was not too crowded and the guests were orderly (which is not always the case). Food is okay. I recommend getting your tickets online in advance! The lobby and front desk areas are stunning, and the firepit right outside was absolutely dreamy for evening hangouts. Our room was comfortable with cozy beds, but I was disappointed to learn that daily cleaning only happens if you call to request it--so ours was never cleaned during our stay. The pool was fun, but it closes at 8pm, which feels a little too early. It would be amazing if they extended hours to 10 or 11pm. The biggest downside was the very loud AC system. Even when we turned ours off and cracked the window, we still heard the neighboring unit running all night. It definitely made it hard to sleep. Overall, though, it's a beautiful property with a lot of charm--perfect for family gatherings and downtime between adventures.

I wavered between 3 and 4 stars on this one. How you feel about Blue Mountain depends largely on…read morewhat kind of a skier/snowboarder you are. If you're an absolute beginner, it isn't a bad introduction to the world of snow sports. It's a small "mountain" and therefore very beginner friendly. They have a completely closed off area on one side that is entirely for beginners with conveyor lifts, very gentle and short slopes, and a short chairlift. There are also two green trails on the mountain designated as "slow skiing areas," though they might want to police them better as there were still several daredevils blasting by us. The whole process for rentals and lessons is a well-oiled machine and easy to navigate. My 11-year-old son had never been skiing or snowboarding before and was anxious to try. So this seemed like a logical spot to bring him. I had been here plenty of times as a kid in the 90's, but this was my first time back in decades. We came on a Sunday in March and arrived at 7:30. It was already crowded with cars and people at that point but we still got a good parking spot and picking up rental equipment was no problem. My son enjoyed his snowboarding lesson and was loving how quickly he was learning. I bought a lift pass for me + helmet rental, and a beginner package for him (this included snowboard/helmet rental, one hour lesson, and restricted lift ticket). All together this was $293, which seems wildly overpriced for the mountain we were on, especially considering my son was stuck to the beginner area all day unless we upgraded his lift ticket. But I guess this price is common in the skiing industry these days, and I hate to think what the big mountains out west are charging. If you're an experienced skier/snowboarder and live close by, it's probably not a bad place to get in a quick fix. As an experienced skier myself, it was a pleasant day on the slopes, but got a little boring after awhile. If I'm going to pay an arm and a leg, fight hordes of people all day, and drive for a few hours to get there, I'd rather do so on a bigger and more challenging mountain.

We enjoyed the views from the chair lift and felt pretty safe. After the lift, we hiked over to the restaurant at Summit Lodge. ** Of note, the website says it's a .6 mile trek, but it is definitely 1 full mile as we were told upon departing the chair lift. We finished our meal and hiked back up the mountain arriving at 5, to discover that the lift was shutting down for the night. The operator said someone should've told us that it stops running at 430. Initially, he said he could take one of us back down in his 2 seater vehicle and the rest of us would have to hike back. But then he decided to radio to base who advised they would have someone drive the 3 of us together. The operator waited with us until our driver arrived. The driver was a very nice police officer who gave us a lot of info about Blue Mountain, and even volunteered to be our photographer. Despite the snafu, we all said we would come back. 8/10

The rooms felt dated - particularly the bathroom, where the wallpaper was peeling and the bathtub showed its age. The overall décor could benefit from a refresh. Small touches would also make a difference; for example, swapping the chocolate bar welcome for liquid body wash instead of bar soap would feel more practical and modern. I stayed for a conference, and while the buffet food was decent, the desserts were the standout - especially the brownies, cookies, and flourless chocolate cake. Those were definitely a win. The waterpark was a lot of fun for the kids and a big highlight of the stay. That said, it would be great if both the waterpark and on-site restaurants had extended hours, especially on weekends, to better accommodate families. A few logistical frustrations stood out as well. The check-in line was extremely long, so be prepared to wait - it would be a huge improvement if they offered a virtual check-in option. Additionally, room service does not come during multi-day stays, which was disappointing. A simple refresh between days would go a long way in improving the guest experience. Overall, it's a pleasant place with family-friendly features, but it didn't quite live up to other resort experiences I've had. If your main focus is a waterpark getaway, you may want to consider Great Wolf Lodge as a comparison.
