Lovely time visiting liberty mountain resort. First time at the location and couldn't have been happier with the service and accommodations. Workers were polite and very helpful when asked questions. I absolutely loved my experience here and truly had an amazing time on the mountain. The trails leading to the backside were especially enjoyable and made the entire day incredibly memorable. Everything was well-maintained, the atmosphere was great, and the skiing experience exceeded my expectations. I spent the entire day here and did not regret a single moment. The staff did an outstanding job keeping everything running smoothly, especially during such a busy time on New Year's Eve. Their hard work, organization, and dedication did not go unnoticed, and they played a huge role in making the experience so enjoyable for everyone there. This was genuinely one of the best ways I could have spent the final day of 2025, and it made for a perfect start to 2026. I will definitely be returning in the future. Gorgeous resort! Just be sure to bring ear plugs for the noisy AC/heater. We came here as a big group of 21 to celebrate our parents' 50th anniversary, and it was a wonderful spot to rest and relax in between our Gettysburg tours. The lobby and front desk areas are stunning, and the firepit right outside was absolutely dreamy for evening hangouts. Our room was comfortable with cozy beds, but I was disappointed to learn that daily cleaning only happens if you call to request it--so ours was never cleaned during our stay. The pool was fun, but it closes at 8pm, which feels a little too early. It would be amazing if they extended hours to 10 or 11pm. The biggest downside was the very loud AC system. Even when we turned ours off and cracked the window, we still heard the neighboring unit running all night. It definitely made it hard to sleep. Overall, though, it's a beautiful property with a lot of charm--perfect for family gatherings and downtime between adventures. read more

My family and I had a wonderful time at Liberty Mountain! It was all our first time, and we were very excited to go snow tubing here over the Winter break. This resort is about 1.5 hour's drive from D.C... which is great for a short road trip with small children. I recommend buying snow tubing tickets in advance especially if you are going on the weekends as this is a popular activity and tickets go quick. We went over the Winter break and it was PACKED! There were long lines at the top of the mountain, but they do go quick. You just have to practice lots of patience. My family and I had a BLAST doing numerous rounds of snow tubing. There is a moving walkway to go up the mountain and once on top; there are multiple lanes. The staff are nice and friendly. You get asked "straight or spin?'; straight is self-explanatory and spin is when they spin the tube so fast... your head feels like it's going to fall off! So, beware! Overall, such a fun time here at Liberty Mountain Resort! WE can't wait to come back. The only 'cons' would be the prices of the food items in the lounge area and the lack of signage to navigate to the correct area for snow tubing. read more

Not great for a beginner skiier. The group lesson was taught on a bunny hill that Barely had th tiniest little slope. You barely moved. So of course I was able to use the technique she taught to stop there. The same technique did not work when I went on a beginner slope that was 5x steeper than when I learned. There really needs to be something in between the two, or the lesson should include going on a beginner slope. I also thought the signs pointing out which slope was which difficulty were not great, and my more experienced friends agreed. There was also apkost no signs indoors to say where the locker room and food area and everything was. Also no signs to say if or when or where the bus would come to the parking lots read more

Vail resorts has really run Liberty into the ground. It is over crowded and under staffed. You can tell poorly managed when they don't even clean the bathrooms during the day. The rental gear is old, over used and falling apart. There are better local options. read more

Overall this is a good option as its not too far from the DC area, my review is focused on snow tubing as this is what my guests from out of town and I did during our visit. So we booked our tubing tickets in advance which I would recommend especially if you are going up on the weekend or during the holidays. I knocked off a star because the signage and directions for newcomers on where to go is not clear. We got to the resort and parked in the large lot across from the hotel which is the lot closest to the ski lifts. I saw a single sign that the tubing area was elsewhere and there was a two lane road leading in that direction but it wasn't clear on where people going tubing should park. So we had to go to the ski area entry to ask someone who noted we should probably drive as there was not a shuttle running on the day we were there. Ok would have been nice to know or even some signage for us newbies, the lot up there is small and the lot was packed once we left. Even if you purchased tickets online in advance you'll need to go to the window to get the thing you wear so they know you're supposed to be there. Tubes were plentiful and in working order. There was a moving walkway to take riders up to the top of the hill. Mind you we were there between Christmas and New Years and there were a lot of people, although the lines seemed to move reasonably quickly. So if you are looking for a fun excursion I would certainly go back again, although I might avoid the weekend next time, if I can help it. My out of town guests really had a terrific time so I'm more excited for them that they enjoyed themselves. Just better signage would be great. read more

We booked here over a month ago. There's nothing to do unless you are a golfer. We went for relaxation, for the indoor/outdoor pool, hot tub and sauna. Just days before our arrival, we were told the indoor pool, hot tub and sauna were closed for repairs! I called to speak to a manager. She NEVER called me back!!! This pretty much set the tone for the entire stay. We ended up going there bc it was too late to make reservations anywhere else. Between 6 and 6:30 a.m 2 days in a row either leaf blowers or mowers were loudly being used outside our hotel room! Our bedroom ac/heat was so loud and rattling it sounded like it was going to explode. We ended up shutting it off. The bathroom light was loaded with bugs and there's no fan. The walls/ceilings were peeling and we found food under the couch. The deck going to the outdoor pool was peeling extremely bad and had loose boards. The pool stairs were also loose. When we went to leave we were never asked how our stay was. The employee just simply said "Checking out?" I didn't see not one other guest on or floor the first 3 days we were there. The place is absolutely beautiful but I feel like there is little effort put into summer visitors. Due to the managers lack of concern and little effort shown towards guests, we probably won't be back. Too expensive to be treated like we don't matter. read more

We had a fantastic time at Liberty Mountain Resort! It was only short distance from DC and we were able to spend a significant amount of our day here. This was my first time skiing and I was happy we went when we did because it wasn't too crowded and we had a wonderful instructor. He was very patient with us and took the time to take us on the lift as well as ensure our safety as we made our way down the slope by showing us how to properly stop and not being too far away in the event that we needed him. I'd suggest dressing warmly and bringing a dry change of clothes. read more

Was promised on the phone that I would be a part of the wedding block of hotel rooms and be in the same building as everyone else. When checking in that was not what happened. I was put into another building. The WiFi sucked, it was practically non existent. Our room was very humid and hot, the AC was not strong enough. I was promised a 10 or 20% discount from the manager George, however he was not present when checking out at the front desk like I was told he would. Am not happy about this Roundtop, or Whitetail now being owned by Vail Ski Resort. This is used to be enjoyed, but now it's average. The crowds make this tough, to get a large amount of runs in per day. Also due to new skiers, be patient on the lifts. I'll deal with these, despite them seeming to be higher up than other places. The cost alone is ridiculous. Even with your own skis, you're going to pay a considerable amount to go here. As for their slopes they are decent. A nice mix of beginner, intermediate, and advanced ones. Great ski patrol! As for food they gave horrible grub for three times what the price should be. Am not liking the new monopoly, but will have to get used to it. read more

I was sure this vacation would be a fantastic success from the beginning. I contacted customer service and spoke to Julie. She helped me navigate the process of booking the trip and made sure my reservations were confirmed. She went the extra mile and even helped when the unfortunate situation came up with a lost wallet. Yes, a lost wallet can ruin a vacation. However, the kind souls of Liberty and the honesty of those who visit this mountain were why the wallet was located and returned to us. I had a lesson with a friend and two other beginning snowboarders. Trip, with whom I had the pleasure of working with during my lesson, offered me a high level of skill and extreme patience. The two-hour lessons went better than expected. The Holiday weekend was crowded, and the day on the mountain was busy, but after 6:00 PM, the lifts were moving, and folks were having a blast. We ate at McKee's Tavern. The food was good...we enjoyed the chili, fries, and pub burger. The wait staff was friendly, and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Finally, you should book early if you want to stay overnight on sight. We stayed at the Marriott in Gettysburg (26 min car ride away/17 miles). I will write a separate review, but you should know the combo made the trip a huge success. Safe, fun, friendly, and worth every penny we spent on this amazing trip! read more

Okay, so, let's just go with a list of pros and cons to make this easier. All thoughts coming from someone who learned to ride here. No, I wasn't taught by them. Pros: - Military Pricing. - Student pricing day. - Pretty steady rentals. - Good place to learn. - Credit for another day if you aren't happy with conditions (you'll use it). - Decent amount of beginner trials. - Close to the North Baltimore area. - Lessons for new folks (I didn't use this as I had a pro with me) CONS: - Military pricing for the member only. - Student pricing on Wednesday's only... - In February there were at anytime ONE employee handing out rentals for hundreds of people. Not cool. - Snow here can be really iffy. It was pure ice when we went over the Valentine's weekend. We were both not happy. - People who are NOT ready to graduate to other trails causing accidents, etc, on trails with rollers and where decent speeds obtained. - Night riding is still insanely pricey and it's a total rip. - Lessons groups are kind of all in the mix all the time. - Pricing overall to me was a rip. We may go here from time to time but only with a season pass. I'd probably opt for somewhere else if you don't want a pass and want to go more often. read more

I left my boots at home and rather than just charging me for boots like they did years ago. They forced me to rent out a board, boots, helmet for 70 dollars. I could of got a whole new pair of boots for that price, Liberty/Vale will try to milk every penny they can and its a shame. Left a very bad taste in my mouth that they do not let you rent out individual pieces which obviously is due to them being cheap. read more

I stayed at Liberty Mountain Resort last week for a work retreat, a place we have been going to for several years. Overall, the experience was great. The lodging was comfortable and, with the exception of one staff member, the service was kind and thoughtful. However, that one member of the staff came out and spoke to my interns in a hostile and threatening manner while they were singing High School Musical songs around the campfire. Despite the fact that there were no noise complaints (and that I could not hear them when I myself was inside the main building), he lied and told us that he had called the cops. He refused to engage with us in a professional manner and spoke to members of the leadership team in a rude and condescending manner. What is worse is that his comments were directed at members of the group who are people of color. I have written a letter to his supervisor requesting that Liberty Mountain Resort train its employees in (1) how to appropriately and professionally escalate concerns and (2) how to identify and deal with unconscious bias. read more

Just got back from Liberty today - ugh! WAY TOO CROWDED. LInes for the lifts are 30 mins or more. Line to get your equipment over 2 hours! They are clearly overwhelmed and horribly understaffed. Although the staff themselves are lovely and not to blame. Try somewhere else, my friends! read more

Let me start by saying the staff here is stellar... but the lack of staff compared to how many people they try to accommodate here is unreasonable. Everywhere is understaffed and I get that, but to allow so many people at your "resort" that you cannot responsibility accommodate is frustrating. It's always a 2 hour process for rentals, the slopes take forever to get on, and the bathrooms are so nasty and always missing products. At one point they said they might run out of rentals, regardless if you reserved online or not. They clearly haven't worked out a good system for this. Two stars go all to the staff they have trying desperately hard and breaking their backs to make things go as smoothly as possible. They need raises. read more

We came in April, after ski season and in the beginning of golf season. We picked this resort as we were looking for something in between the Gettysburg and Antietam battle fields. What a pleasant surprise! The staff are friendly and accommodating, the room modern and very clean and we ate at the breakfast buffet as well as the main restaurant, the Eagle and the Owl. The buffet was fresh and plentiful; fruit, breads, oatmeal, egg dishes and meats. Delicious. At the restaurant, my hubby had the meatloaf, piled high on mashed potatoes and onion straws while I had the shrimp/crab Mac and cheese. Both of us had side salads as well. The Mac and cheese was scrumptious and a large portion. I could not eat it all- I am sad to say. The resort truly was a delightful experience and I cannot say enough about the friendliness and warmth of the staff. Finally, why four stars? When I booked on line, I never received a confirmation that the booking went through and my credit card did not reflect a charge. I booked a second time, thinking I messed something up only to get a text saying that both rooms were reserved. I called the resort, who acknowledged two reservations but told me there was nothing g I could do about it as they were locked in and to call the parent company in Colorado. I called and had it taken care of, but it was a major hassle (it took about an hour to straighten it out) so I would say be careful when reserving. Finally, our room was not in the hotel but in a lodge next door. If you wanted to use the pool, etc, you needed to walk over and take an elevator down to the pool area. Our lodge also did not have an elevator and we were on the second floor- we had a large suitcase which we carried up. read more

It is what it is. With minimal options within the area, it's unfortunate the prices they get away with charging. Yes, they have the technology down, check-in for lift tickets/rentals is relatively painless considering the crowds. Most of the employees were helpful and friendly. The instructors where great with my kids. It's just a crappy tiny mountain with hit or miss snow seasons and there's nothing that can be done about that. I guess it's better than nothing. Also, the magic carpet on the bunny hill was working maybe 25% of the time so that wasn't cool with newbie kids. There was a sign that said "no foot traffic beyond here" but with the carpet not moving, we opted to hike up with our kids and help them ski/board down. Not the kind of day we had intended. We came back for night skiing to avoid the crowds. They were blasting the snow machines and so it was kind of miserable combined with the wind. It seems like they could turn off the snow machines here and there during night sessions since they have the entire remainder of the night to make snow. But I'm not a ski resort expert ‍ MkGees Tavern is a different story. Dear Lord that place is a disaster. But I'll review that separately. read more

Skiing reservation and resort reservation. No direct line for the resort to see if room was ready for check in. National line kept giving us the run around to connect us. They are doing distancing on the chairs. We were lucky that we had made the reservation and the snow storm came just in time so extra trails were open. After a few hours we were ready for our room. Found out the room was ready hours ago but since there was no direct line there was no way to know this. Pool & hot tub closed. You must have reservation for restaurant even though it is grab and go and limited selection of selection and fry top burgers. We were suppose to stay and ski the next day but we we do up leaving the next morning at 7am I what felt like 1 hour sleep. The bed was hard a rock. If you turned on your side your shoulder would hurt. The window shaker was loud and would cycle every 15 minutes. We even tried turning it down to 60 hoping if it did not have to heat the room maybe it wouldn't come on but no- it still came on. Ski Liberty has terrible rooms and they have not managed to figure out what other mainstream hotels have during covid and the rest of the year. How to have a main phone number and decent rooms. This is one ski resort you do not stay over at. read more

I've visited this location a few times pre pandemic and once during the pandemic and honestly, it was much better post pandemic probably because they had enough staff to handle the amount of people there. The check in process is painfully slow. For people like me who get the newbie package - a class, rentals, and a day pass. Even though you've done everything online, you have to wait inside to check yourself in to get your day pass. Then you have to wait in another line to get your gear. Be warned this process could take an hour or more. Then, you wait for your class. The instructors here are hit or miss. I got lucky during the pandemic and my teacher mike, and older gentleman, was super cool. There's also an older lady, she greets people out front (who probably is another instructors and she's great! When I first started a few years ago, she was so supportive...). Flashbacks over. Either way, they have beer now. It's a good ski day if it's just snowed but else, like everything else on the east coast, it could get icy. read more

Decided to go snow tubing here since it was only an hour and half drive from Washington, D.C. I went on a Saturday and the resort was packed. I had to park all the way down at the bottom of this hill and take two buses up to the lodge for tubing. All of that went smoothly enough. I wasn't able to get tickets for that time of tubing, so I had an hour to kill and sadly, that lodge did not have any real food or alcohol. The tubing experience was good, although it was almost too busy and they let too many people go, so I was only able to go down 3 times. I ate at the Eagle and Owl. That was great! Good drink options and the burger was awesome! A good way to spend the day! read more

Some woman at the snowboard rental shop got unnecessarily aggravated when she had to adjust the boots on my snowboard after I came back a third time. I don't know why she got upset or had an attitude when it's her job to do that and she got it wrong the first few times. Also, there are no chairs at the cafe on the first floor. After snowboarding/skiing, don't you think it would be nice to sit in a warm setting for a bit, without having to climb up the stairs to where the tables AND chairs are? Grew up going here so it brings back memories for me. It has really changed since I was young, but in a good way. Some of the enhancements are a court yard with tables if you want to bring your own food or rest, outside drinking/dining in multiple areas, quick service type area just inside the door of the resort. They offer tubing now and have additional parking. I recently had my son do ski school and the instructor Mike was amazing! read more

3 hour wait to pick up ski rentals and over an hour to get our pre-paid on-line tickets! First run after getting there at Noon was 3:30. With the lift lines we got in four runs before dark... I just want to single out the dreadful magic carpet. It is poorly designed or maintained -- requiring first time skiers to slog up an icy incline to get onto the ramp. People were regularly wiping out, making the already long line longer with large spaces between people. Additionally the carpet kept stopping for no apparent reason, increasing the delays. Please take notes from Canaan Valley: smooth and even on ramp, staff watching to see if any patrons have trouble getting on. read more

We came on a Sunday so we were already prepared for the place to be packed but this was something else. We got there at ~10:30am; it took about 1.5 hours to get through the line for ski rentals. Then, once we strapped in and ready to go, we found that the lines to the lifts were astronomical. We waited on line for the bunny slopes for 10 minutes without the queue moving an inch. We ended up staying at the resort for 3 hours, but only did 3 runs over the course of those 3 hours. We waited on line for 30-45+ minutes just to get on the lift. While the mountain and the slopes were great, the lines made the experience entirely unenjoyable. The staff were friendly and were doing their best. I would not be returning nor recommending this resort unless serious changes are implemented, such as a reservations system to limit the amount of people at the resort and on the slopes at any given time. read more

Fantastic weekend trip (a little over an hour North of Washington, DC and West of Baltimore), plenty of parking for a day trip, and helpful staff. Skiing was very enjoyable. The hour and a half long lesson was also very helpful for my family member that was there for the first time. The ski routes were good but I did not do anything above a blue. We've been here a few times and although it's close to home it's not my first mountain choice for snow sports. I snowboard and the front of the mountain can be very frustrating - by that I mean that one of their two main trails down is the Upper to Lower Blue Streak and it flattens out so much it is a pain in the arse for snowboarders! Their restaurant is cool though and they have a decent selection of beers. The back of the mountain is good if they have all the trails open. read more

This was my first time going to a ski/snowboarding resort so I think Liberty is a good place to go if you're just starting out. The all day package that we got which included the ski or snowboarding lesson was definitely worth it. Our ski instructor, Jin, was great and he made the class fun! He took extra time with us to make sure we safely knew what we were doing. Not going to lie but the bunny slope did knock us down a couple times but it didn't take too long to get the hang of it. Staff was always posted around the resort to direct you to where you need to go and their signage was also really helpful. I can't wait to try snowboarding next time! read more

My husband and I were going to go skiing on NYE, however the slopes and resort closed due to the warm weather and inability to make snow. The resort refunded us, but not EPIC pass. They said that's not a valid reason for a refund. I want everyone to be aware of this before they spend their money here. DO BETTER EIC PASS!!! read more

Loved this resort. Staff were exceptional and very helpful. Rooms were very clean. Lots to do even if you don't ski or golf. The included breakfast was much better than some of the other free breakfasts we've had elsewhere - decent selection and it was all fresh. It's quiet here, and very pretty, and overall has been a lovely place to stay for a socially distant vacation. I appreciate the wear-your-masks signage, the hand sanitizer, the very reasonably closed on-site restaurants, and especially the "clean" and "used" bins for pens at the front desk, that's above and beyond the legal requirements and shows genuine concern for actual safety. The room (we're in a highland lodge suite) has its flaws, though, which are the reason my rating isn't higher. The air conditioning is appallingly loud and very local - I'm freezing standing anywhere near the unit but it gets way too hot if they're off. The faucet in the bathroom is mounted in a weird place such that it's difficult to use without getting water everywhere. The outlets are mostly annoyingly behind furniture and the bedroom light switch doesn't actually control any of the lights. The shower leaks into the corner of the bathroom unless you're very careful with the curtain. The bathroom doesn't have a fan. A microwave would have been nice. The internet is also not very good. But the atmosphere honestly does really well at compensating for minor flaws. The golf course is gorgeous, we spent a very nice afternoon strolling all the way around it. The building is very well designed and open and I feel relaxed and vacationy walking around in it. The architecture and paths are well maintained and orderly. We will probably come back some time when things are open and actually try out the onsite food, the golf, etc., but for now I just wanted to spend a week in the middle of nowhere and not talk to anyone and admire some trees, and that's what I got, so I'm happy. read more
