Love having this place so close. Have popped in several times over the last year. Maybe once a quarter or so.... Come at off times so never busy enough that I've had to wait. Bar seating is first choice and the service has been great. Typical order would be the half and half Benny with the Smashed avocado one and Bella Bella one. Ventured out to have their pancakes as well and the Bravacado toast. Coffee is sold and enjoy the overall vibe. Yesterday is the first time I visited this Snooze location. I do prefer the N. Lamar location but the food was still great! I ordered the vanilla almond matcha latte and the sweet potato veggie smash up. The smash up is sweet and savory. Yum! Of course, our table also got a pancake flight. I stopped by Snooze on E 5th after volunteering at the Run for Water race, and it was the right choice! Since it was still early on Sunday, we easily found free street parking and didn't need validation. We added our name to the list (it's always busy on weekends), and about 20 minutes later we were seated. (One star off for the wait so bring your patience). They have an efficient system that tells you where you are in line and texts you when your table is ready. Our waitress was attentive and so sweet. I ordered the Habanero Pork Belly Breakfast Fried Rice with my egg over hard instead of over easy, and it was incredible, full of flavor with just the right kick. I also got the Butterfly Lemonade, which was not only beautiful but delicious. The lavender flavor was perfectly balanced, and the pea flower gave it this gorgeous color. I'm such a fan of their Knork flatware that I actually bought some online a few years ago! The bathrooms are always clean, and on a nice day, the patio is the perfect spot to people-watch or relax with a drink. My husband and I decided to grab brunch after Sunday School and church. We were initially going to Snooze on S. Lamar. Yelp popped up the 5th street location. Who knew? Thanks Yelp! The 5th street location was actually closer to our church. This location was thoughtfully planned and executed from bright and soothing colors to a homage to Austin. Calming green, soothing teal, mellow yellow and punctuated orange permeated the building. While the host said that this location had been opened 4 years, we had never eaten at this location. Visually Snooze was appealing - high ceilings, floor to ceiling windows, bold orange chandeliers, rounded and square tables along with cool inscriptions on the walls. They had a number of symbols that looked jacks that were sprinkled throughout the restaurant giving it a futuristic twist. A distinctive Austin feature is a cluster of bats on the restaurant's central pillar. Watching the 1.5 M bats fly out from the Congress bridge is of the top Austin sightseeing attractions. Also, they had a swerved water line which appeared to mimic Lady Bird Lake. In addition, they have a community sign, showing their emphasis as a company. On the word community, they had unity highlighted. Snooze is appealing except for the wait time. When we walked in, we were given a 30-45-minute estimate. I did not know how this was going to go over with the hubs. However, he was amenable to waiting. I was sure that it did not have anything to do with me treating him out to brunch. Smile. We learned that you could put your name on a waiting list before you arrive at the restaurant. One couple told us that they put their name on the wait list while at home and do not leave for the restaurant until they are told that their table will be ready soon. Pro tip: Register on the online waiting list. The restaurant was packed with people from start to finish. Fortunately, we only had to wait 20 minutes. My husband ordered buttermilk pancakes and bacon. I ordered the classic breakfast: egg whites, hash browns, multi-grain toast, and chicken sausage. Our meals were delicious. I shared my hashbrowns with my hubby and he shared a taste of his pancakes. His pancakes were fluffy, airy, and buttery. Please note that Snooze serves vegan and gluten-free options. They also had seasonal pancakes. Our table neighbors ordered a pancake flight - 3 pancakes - cinnamon roll, strawberry and seasonal. A flight of pancakes...very unique. Our server took our order pretty quickly; however, it took a while for our food to arrive. When we received our meals, they were hot. Also, free parking is available in an attached garage. Snooze on 5th Street is a crazy, super popular. I have not seen that many folks flow to a restaurant in an hour. If you want a fun and cute place this is a perfect brunch spot. Now you do have to get ready to wait because it can get really packed. But trust me it's totally worth it. Scrrreeeechhhh! That's the sound of chairs moving across vinyl flooring. I heard this constantly throughout my visit to this Snooze location. It's a sound that I did not get accustomed to during my meal. Sounded like the scene in Matilda with the chalkboard. I've been to other Snooze locations and this one was a bit disappointing when compared to the those locations. The service was slow, slow. We waited well over thirty minutes for our food. Our server served drinks to a table that came in after us and a couple of people in our group did not receive menu items that they ordered. Luckily, the didn't get charged for them. I ordered the Half Ham Benedict III. It's my usual. This order didn't have much hollandaise sauce, which we know is what makes the Benedict dish + my poached egg was already broken. There are a couple of different Snooze locations but this one on East Fifth is a fifteen minute walk from my house. The problem is that the food is so good, we eat too much and have to get a car back. Not even joking. The breakfast/brunch menu has something for everyone including a selection of different types of Eggs Benedict, omelettes, bowls, brekkie sandwiches, pancakes, French toast, all the good stuff. Almost every offering is large enough to share with someone. For instance today we had the "pancake of the moment"-crème brûlée pancakes. Three light and fluffy buttermilk pancakes stacked high covered in vanilla custard and topped with a berry medley (blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries). Even though my boyfriend and I shared this stack, we still couldn't finish them. We didn't even get sides and we were stuffed! We left with an order to go so we could take them to his mom. The brown "paste" you see in the breakfast burrito is what theyre calling a $2.50 charge for sausage. Not a joke. Our server was real cool and answered our questions. The food was really good. I subbed my snooze burrito with barbacoa. It was sooooooo good. The Rejuvenate drink was really awakening. It'll get you up. It is a tad bit sweet. My friends got the honey almond drink. They said they can drink that all day. The lavender honey oat milk latte was really good too. This experience at Snooze (Austin, TX) was absolutely disgusting and terrifying. I found a piece of plastic inside my food -- and it was small enough that I could have swallowed other pieces without knowing it. That's not just a mistake; that's a major food safety violation and a breach of state law. Under the Texas Health & Safety Code (Chapters 431 and 437), food served to customers must be safe, uncontaminated, and free from foreign material. What I was served was legally considered "adulterated food" -- unfit for human consumption. That's how serious this is. And yet, the way the restaurant handled it was even worse. When I asked to speak to a manager, no one came to the table. Nobody checked what happened, nobody asked if I was okay, nobody apologized. They simply wrote "Oops" on the bill and gave me a $6 discount. That's it. Six dollars for finding plastic in my food. The manager's behavior was shocking -- they acted like this was completely normal. No concern for safety, no accountability, nothing. If this is how they react when someone finds plastic in their food, imagine how many other problems get ignored behind the kitchen door. And the worst part? I have no idea where that plastic came from. It could have been from packaging, gloves, machinery, or something contaminated with chemicals or spoiled food. That's cross-contamination and a violation of basic hygiene standards. If someone with an allergy had eaten it, it could have triggered a serious reaction -- even a medical emergency. I'm grateful I noticed it before swallowing it, but what if this had been a baby or a child? What if someone with allergies had eaten it? The outcome could have been tragic. This wasn't just unprofessional -- it was dangerous, illegal, and utterly disrespectful. We had a good experience here for the one breakfast we had while visiting Austin. Snooze has an extensive menu with lots of options for any breakfast palette and plenty for vegetarians. My one sticking point was the coffee...it was serviceable...not "send-back-able"...but not particularly strong. One of my missions in life is to make breakfast places understand that their coffee, which is often the first point of contact for visitors, needs to be strong. It really wasn't here...not quite browned water you can get at some places...but really not the bold taste I'm looking for in a drip coffee. Besides that the food was great, My wife has the Smashed Avocado Benny which she really liked. It was served with a round hashbrowns puck which was one of the most delicious representations of hashbrowns I've ever had. Cooked PERFECTLY. I want to travel back to Austin to have it again. (or actually, they have locations all over so maybe I'll just go to a local one.) REALLY GOOD HASHBROWNS! (And I'm not the type to put things in upper case for no reason.) I had, mainly because I was in Austin, the breakfast tacos. It was a generous portion of three tacos that looked and tasted good, and which were suitable for my vegetarian diet. There is a lot of seating inside and out, but even with that on a Sunday morning we still had to wait to be seated...but not for too long.
