Jeff as our server was a delight! He took good care of us. We stuck around long enough that we hated to see him moving on to the room for a party celebration. We even tried to order a second meal but they had to make way for reservations! We will be back! Our food was soooo good! I had the B-Fast Sandy and one pancake. My bestie had the shrimp & grits plus three different flapjacks! The pancakes/flap jacks are huge. This was a perfect location to celebrate Woman's History Month since this is an award winning restaurant, owned by a woman.

It's always a busy time for establishments, especially when it comes to holidays, but we repeatedly kept getting seated and "unseated" (the hostess would seat us, but then take us back to common area as the tables were either dirty or not ready). I didn't personally care about this, but I definitely noticed my party getting a bit frustrated by the experience as it happened about 4 times before we officially got seated, which also exceeded our initial reservation time. The service itself was okay. I wish they would've come around a bit more as we were out of water while eating our meal, but I know it was super busy that day!! I ended up getting the soft shell crab sandwich and it was pretty good! I think it would be even tastier with more sauce on the bun, but overall a nice pick. I also tried the lobster bisque; it had a nice texture with the little lobster bits, but found it overly salty. Hush puppies were a nice, crispy texture and I loved the sweet butter with it! One thing I absolutely loved about this experience was the mother's day flower pop-up stand! The cutest way to walk in and support another local business.

I've tried this place three different times and ALL three times I had an issue. It was a waste of my gas to drive to Sidecar in Birmingham to eat and everything was a disaster from the moment I was seated. I have passed by Sidecar in Birmingham so many times, and strolled past it more occasions than I can count. I have always avoided the place because there is always someone inside of it who is racist and anything but professional. This corniest thing about management here is that it seems to train workers to only like it when whites sit at their eatery. Be sure to hold onto to a copy of your receipt if you wish to be refunded for the unpleasant blah-slop they will serve you. The food here looked like someone sat on it when I bought it, and it was flavorless from started to finish. Honestly, I was skeptical about coming here based on reviews and I wish I had listened to the complaints. One waitress was apologetic to me when I came back to complain, so sad for her because she was not the owner of this dump who has the personality of a headless turkey. The food is worth only one star, but I would give it zero if I could. I'd recommend just going to Applebee's instead of Sidecar and maybe the place that Sidecar is holding can be repurposed into some type of mixed-use community hub to breathe new life into Birmingham once it gets shut down. - Oakley

Walking in, there was very limited seating and about an hour wait, which clearly showed how popular this spot is. Thankfully, the hostess told us about their basement bar area where you can grab drinks and snacks while waiting. The downstairs area had such a cool speakeasy vibe dark ambiance, vinyl music playing, and honestly the perfect date night atmosphere. The drinks were REALLY good, and you can also order appetizers down there. Once we made it upstairs, we grabbed bar seating and talked to a few people around us who all said this was their favorite spot. Our bartender was amazing -- super attentive, explained the menu well, and gave great recommendations. We ordered the wings (perfectly seasoned and so good) and the chicken sandwich with buffalo added for a little spice... absolutely delicious. I also tried the pistachio martini, and wow definitely one of my favorite drinks I've had in a while. Overall, such a great experience from the atmosphere to the food and service. I'll definitely be back, and I've already been telling all my friends about this place!

From the moment you arrive, the restaurant feels composed and intentional, guided by a team that understands both rhythm and restraint. The staff are warm and attentive, but it is Manager Justin and the bartender who truly set the cadence of the room. Together, they keep everything moving effortlessly, creating an atmosphere that feels polished yet deeply welcoming. Justin, unmistakably a favorite among locals, guided us toward memorable entrées and desserts with an ease that speaks to both expertise and genuine care. The food unfolds with equal assurance. The cheesesteak sandwhich and fries arrive as elevated comfort--thinly sliced steak, richly seasoned and properly prepared on a delicious bun, paired with truffle fries that are crisp on the outside and tender within. It's indulgent without excess, familiar yet thoughtfully refined. The steak frites follows the same philosophy: a precisely cooked steak, tender and flavorful, accompanied by classic golden fries that feel essential rather than ornamental. A previous visit introduced us to the seared salmon sitting on a bed of succotash, a dish defined by restraint and technical grace. A lightly crisped top gives way to a buttery, beautifully cooked interior--moist, rich, and balanced. It's the kind of preparation that allows the quality of the fish to speak for itself. One standout worth calling out on its own is the succotash. Packed with sweet, tender corn and layered with savory depth, it was vibrant, comforting, and exceptionally well balanced. Simply put, it's the best succotash I've ever had--the kind of side dish that quietly steals the spotlight. Dessert lingers pleasantly in memory. The chocolate chip cookie is everything it should be: warm, softly structured, and deeply comforting without tipping into sweetness overload. Simple, nostalgic, and perfectly judged. The bar experience deserves its own quiet praise. Each visit included a beautifully composed mocktail--balanced, nuanced, and crafted with the same care and intention as any classic cocktail. It's clear that thoughtful drinking, with or without alcohol, is taken seriously here. Note, we also tried a lovely wine the last visit. The interior strikes a graceful balance between hip and classy--sleek, well appointed, and effortlessly current. The dress code follows suit: business casual or casual sleek, whatever feels natural in a space that never tries too hard. Outside, the building reflects Birmingham's historic downtown character, with an early-20th-century commercial façade--clean lines, strong proportions, and timeless detailing--adapted seamlessly for modern dining while honoring its architectural roots. Street parking was plentiful on both visits, likely aided by our later-than-dinner timing. Yelp Tip: Ask for Justin, the Manager who is always there. He is a true gentleman, extremely hospitable, effortlessly keeping the room flowing and the experience elevated from start to finish. Townhouse offers consistency, warmth, and understated excellence in its staff. It's a restaurant that invites return visits--not for novelty, but for the quiet pleasure of ordering something you already know you'll love and the familiar faces you will see. We'll absolutely be back.
