Just really really delicious. I am a connoisseur of pizza, having grown up in NYC. So I am very very choosey about pizza. Well, I gotta say, it was very good; not New York City style pizza but it has its own style. It really tasted homemade. The crust was amazing and you could just tell the way the edges were folded over that someone took the time to make a good pizza. The sauce was very tasty and there was tons of cheese. We got the Herbivore...so yummy. My husband is on a restricted diet so he got the gluten free cheeseless. He doesn't recommend that crust but loved the topics and sauce. Overall, we recommend. Also want to say that the place itself is just so perfect for a Covid pick-up. It's so small that the number of people that can enter is limited, which makes it pretty darn safe. And the service was excellent. We had planned to pick up the pizzas at 5:15 but turned out to be able to get there earlier. They had our pizzas ready lickety split, practically no wait time. Smugs is awful, but is better than drinking paint. Pizza in Humboldt is surprisingly sketchy (who knew an area known for weed would have such lousy food?), but this local chain is worse than Big Petes, Westside, Blue Max (Closed); even Round Table & Papa Murphy's are better. This place won't make you choke if you are desperate for food (and isn't a bad idea if you are homeless), but the only reason anyone should ever give their money to Smugs is for a quick slick to eat while late to work or school. I love Smugs so much! I used to walk to snugs from Arcata High, and although it took up my entire lunch it was so worth it!!

In a small college town where the students are broke and the pickin's are slim, many people try this place out in downtown Arcata. As far as pizza goes, it's better than Red Baron, but that's about it. There are roughly 4 other places to go for pizza in town, and any would be better than Smug's (now that Blue Max has gone out of business.) Their recipes are lacking in many different areas; the sauce is very basic and flat, the crust is often burnt, lacks salt and complexity, and the creativity that goes into their flavours can be rivaled by a desperate dorm-dweller with leftovers in their fridge. To be perfectly honest, I've had their pizza on four different occasions, but I've only spent my own money at their establishment once, the first time, and won't be doing it again. It works in a pinch, but it leaves one wanting so much more. Just walk down the street to either Live From New York (great New York style pizza) or Don's Donuts (whose pizza is actually decent for a 24 hr. donut shop who usually caters to drunks when the bars close.) read more

My friend ordered first and I was next in line but the cashier woman didn't take my order instead she was flirting with her associate who was making pizzas. In the past we have loved Smug's Pizza. So, last week we decided it was time to order a pizza as a treat to enjoy for dinner. Our local Smug's is in McKinleyville and up to now we haven't been disappointed. But OMG! What a miserable failure it was this time around! So salty! I'm mean really, really, salty. We could barely eat it, but we paid a lot for it so we stuffed it down. Should have taken it back for a refund. All I could taste was salt and grease. What's gone wrong with Smug's? Their pizza used to be good but a bit expensive. Too expensive for this kind of failure. We are probably not ever going back again. Sad. read more

When it comes to restaurants, I believe that there are three primary factors that should be considered: (1) Quality, quantity, and flavored compared to expectations, (2) Service, restaurant cleanliness, and group size appropriate server interaction, and finally (3) atmosphere, location, and experience. This is a walk-up pizza window with great pizza by the slice deals. There's nothing fancy about them, but they offer, great service, excellent pizza deals, what I consider to be the tastiest pizza in Humboldt. PROS The sauce is unique and tastes amazing! None of that Little Caesars junk sauce here. They typically pile on the cheese and toppings. Only rarely will you get a slice of pie that is underwhelming. Second slices are always a dollar - why would you ever make the mistake of buying just one slice... CONS The shop is very small, so if its raining outside it can get crowded inside. The pizza is so good that sometimes you will have to wait in line for 5 or 10 minutes. read more

I really like smug's pizza. I've had it on a few occasions (wish they delivered!) and I like what they do with the crust. They sell them by the slice or by the pie and their slices are pretty weird (Does that carousel thing they keep them in heat the slices?). I went here one time to order a pizza for a party and they had run out of dough and it was like 6 pm. SO WEIRD! My boyfriend got me some sort of pizza that consisted of cheese, jalapeno, pineapple and some other things I don't remember. I ate it cold for breakfast and it was PERFECT, I then proceeded to get another slice a few days later...ate it warm and was just as satisfied. My favorite pizza place in town and they definitely have some competition. The crust is thicker than Live From New York, and they have infinitely many ingredient combinations. If you're willing to wait the 7 minutes it takes to cook a pizza you can request your own toppings for your slices and they still charge you a very reasonable $5 for a two-slice meal deal. Smugs always has tons of choices of pizza by the slice, marinara and pesto spread on the daily, great deals, and some soda pop. Great pizza at an affordable price! The pizza is already ready to go when you order. This is definitely a time saver, but it also means sometimes the pizza has been sitting awhile. I recommend asking which pizza is the newest out and base your selection off of that. You can also ask them to top a new one coming out if you have the time. pizza was bad, the place smelled like an open sewer i looked around outside to see if there was any sewage maintenance going on but it was only smugs that reeked. The staff were very chill though i suspect extremelly high based on their eyes being super red and them sneaking food when they thought no one was watching. How was the pizza bad? Just for the record there aren't heat lamps, the slices are kept in what is called a hot box that is heated to over 130 degrees, the lights you see are simply to help brighten the box. The slices are never in there for more then an hour and if they are we put them on the bottom and sell them for $1 a piece or give them away occasionally. read more
