I love the customer service! I've been getting Brazilian waxes since June 2017 and I would recommend anyone who is interested to book with Karie! I have extremely sensitive skin but the waxing beads did not cause break outs for me. You should be good as long as you exfoliate your lady bits regularly. But they will get you straight with all the details on your first visit. They also provide skin test strips. What can I say about Karie... well she is amazing!!! She tries to make your experience as comfortable as possible. Once you get to know her after a couple of visits she is funny and has a great personality. The environment is calm and professional and that's a plus when you're really nervous for your first few visits! The shop also has a lot of cute things if your a boutique shopper for little nick nacks. read more

I fell in love with Smooth upon walking in the doors for my first visit in April. I knew immediately it would become my new place for waxing. I've seen 3 different people in my 4 visits. Two were great!!! I would request by name, but I'm better with faces. Today I had an appointment with Courtney. I remembered her face from my second visit. Friendly enough, but certainly made me feel rushed through my eyebrow waxing appointment both then and now. She's not detailed like the other two I've previously seen. For the price of the services, I hope Smooth can tell me who else I've seen so I can start requesting by name for future appointments. Edit: Smooth was able to let me know Leah is who I saw and loved! Highly recommend Leah for eyebrow waxing :) read more

The staff offered comfort for a newbie to Brazilians as well as communicated to me what I should expect! The store front where you check in was clean and inviting. They offer an incredible selection of oils for baby to new mother as well as for him! Nicki who checked me in was so comfortable to be around, thank you! The slight aroma coming from the candles made the rooms so enjoyable. Nothing seemed pushed upon nor non-inviting! The process was so unbelievably mellow; I loved it! THANK YOU, KARI! ( She was cheerful as well as caring .... I want to have her next time! ) read more

I'm so glad I was able to find Smooth and benefit from its wonderful services before I move to Philadelphia!! Leah is a gem-I highly recommend her for waxing! I was nervous before my first Brazilian in years, but she put me at ease!! She is also wonderful for brows!! I've also had a facial with Dana, who was great! Her manner and approach are so relaxing, definitely a plus for a facial! Now, if only they had a location closer to Philly! I will certainly miss Smooth when I move and wouldn't hesitate to book services there if I were in the area in the future. read more

I've been here twice now for Brazilians with Mary. The first time I was blown away. She was easy and fun to talk to, plus she waxed me quickly which I really appreciated. When I got home I saw that there were a few stray hairs remaining but wasn't too concerned because I knew it had been a while since my last wax and the waiver you sign before your appointment warns you of possibly having stray hairs afterwards. One month later, my second experience was completely different. I requested that she only use hard wax because soft wax irritates my skin. Mary attempted to wax me as requested but the salon's hard wax isn't effective and didn't pick up any hair. I had to use the soft wax for the entire appointment and it was painful and caused irritation as it always does. Also, once I got home from the salon I noticed one section of my "area" looked like it hadn't even been touched..... I have been to waxing salons half the price of Smooth that never leave any hair behind (not even strays) and I never had a problem with their hard wax picking up hair. Mary has such an amazing personality but I can't return after paying $50 for a job that wasn't thorough. read more

Very clean, inviting place. Have excellent COVID precautions in place. Starla is fantastic, she does my brows and brazilian. They have online appointments, which makes scheduling so much easier! read more

This was my first professional Brazilian was experience. I mentioned how nervous I was and Starla really pulled through as far as making me comfortable and less nervous. I was most surprised at how little waxing actually hurt. I'll be returning regularly from now on. read more

Truly the BEST waxing boutique in Hampton Roads. Beautiful and extremely clean. Kat is amazing..very professional and adept.

I've only been once so far, but it was an amazing experience! I went in for a full Brazilian wax, which I've never had before. I was initially super nervous, but Cat, my esthetician, explained exactly how the process would be. I loved that she talked me though the entire thing and asked me questions as to distract me from the pain. She was very thorough and even went so far as to tweeze some ingrown hairs for me! I love her! As for the boutique itself, it is very cute and has so many Vegan and natural products that you can shop for. The ladies at the front desk were extremely friendly also. It is located where parking may be scarce, but I utilized the MacArthur Mall parking garage and just walked to the boutique. I can't wait to be back! read more

Really like the new location. Sooooo much better than before. So boutique like and very clean and cozy. They have tons of products up front where you check in and the lounge area is in the back around the corner. Leah did my eyebrows and she put in effort and time to make them to my liking which I really appreciated. Will be back again for future visits for sure. read more

Elisa is the Best! I have been waxing for 30 years and she is Excellent! If you want a painfree pleasant experience she is your gal! The salon is clean and nice but I will return because of Elisa. read more

This was my go-to waxing place while I lived in Norfolk. I highly recommend Karie. I went to her for brows and Brazilian. She is so sweet, makes you feel comfortable, and really listens to what you'd like. Plus this salon has a super cute gift shop area, and very nice front desk staff. read more

I absolutely love this place! I have been debating on getting a Brazilian wax for years but I finally decided to get one and I really lucked out by picking SMOOTH for my first one. The personnel made me feel so comfortable and confident and this is something that made my experience as getting waxes can be very intimate and vulnerable. I recommend this place for anyone looking to find a go-to wax. I book with Shivanna and she is awesome. She knows what is best for me and has made a huge difference for me and my sensitive skin! read more

How do you review this place without being totally TMI? It's across the street from Dillard's at MacArthur in an unassuming building. And it's extremely tiny inside. Three rooms! I was able to listen to a whole conversation between a customer and esthetician while she got her service done behind closed doors. But they're currently expanding. They're becoming popular. It's pretty well-deserved. They do excellent work. I read all the reviews about how seamless waxes are here so I was waiting for my mind to be blown. (I have a low threshold for pain.) Well it didn't hurt as much as the others; I'll give them that. The esthetician was skilled, personable and cool. No amount of small talk will ever mask the level of invasiveness and pain we endure for a good Brazilian. Smooth is the only place I'll let try, though. read more

Had my very first professional Brazilian done today by the wonderful Chelsea! She made me feel so comfortable. The service was quick and smooth ! I have already rebooked and I'll be getting regular services here. The boutique area when you walk in is also super cute, full of amazing products and staffed by awesome people! read more

This was my first time waxing. As nervous as I was I am pleased to say that it was not that bad at all. I had Karie and she made me feel super comfortable. We talked the whole time as if we knew each other forever. She is super relatable. I also have Scar from a c-section that still is Sensitive she made sure to be careful and even gave me options if I didn't her to wax where the scar was. She took her time and waxed small portions which made the pain very tolerable I will for sure return thanks Karie read more

I visited the Newport News location and it is very nice. I was very nervous today because I've never gotten anything but my eyebrows waxed. I was extremely worried about being overweight and I have multiple other modesty issues. I got myself so worked up and worried that I tried to cancel about 1 hour before the appointment. The 12 hour cancellation policy made me suck it up and go anyway and I am so glad I did. The whole experience was absolutely wonderful (or as wonderful as it could possibly be). The lady at the front desk was friendly and instantly put me at ease. Laura took care of the waxing and she was phenomenal. Not only was she an absolute professional, but she explained what was going to happen. Now, it does hurt, but it is only for a couple of seconds afterwards each strip and then things are back to normal. They use soft wax and hard wax. Still don't understand the difference except for the hard wax seemed a little more forgiving. :-) You will have to check your modesty at the door if you are deforesting the Garden of Eden......there is really not much else I can say about that except Laura really made the situation comfortable and it felt like no big deal. Depending on what kind of shape you are in, you may want to stretch before you go in. HAHAHA! Just kidding.......kind of........ read more

Heather was amazing! I had my first appointment today. She explained how everything would go and she made me feel super comfortable. It didn't hurt as bad as I thought it would. I would definitely go back there again. I like the convenience of online booking instead of calling from my office phone. It's also great to have it right around the corner from my work. I will never go anywhere else. read more

I'm new to the area and needed to find a good place to get a Brazilian wax asap! I decided to try Smooth based on all the great Yelp reviews. I booked with Heather. She did an amazing job! She used the hard wax instead of the soft wax and strips. I had never experienced this technique before, unfortunately! It was so much better than any of my previous Brazilians! It did take longer, but was totally worth it. The lady I booked with over the phone was not very friendly, but the service and friendliness of Heather made it totally ok. I won't look anywhere else for a Brazilian in the Norfolk area! It is a little bit pricier than I'm used to, but seems to be comparable to other Norfolk locations. read more

I've been to Smooth four times now -- I HIGHLY recommend this salon for waxing. It's absolutely adorable, clean, and the ladies working there are professionally top-notch (and friendly!). My first two visits were with the same gal. First was for facial waxing; I was not pleased. She tore an eyelid and my chin. Thankfully, I had come a few days earlier than my event and both were healed by the time I needed them to be. Second was for a facial the next day (and no comment was made about the tearing; it was pretty obvious); way too much time spent rubbing my forehead than applying and extracting, in my opinion. I would not return for another facial. I loved the salon and wanted to give it a second chance -- when I got the email for the Brazilian wax pass (best.deal.ever!) I jumped on it and chose another gal to see. Super glad that I did! =) I've seen Tiffany twice now for Brazilian waxes -- one a month for the last two months on the wax pass. I've seen some women on here post how the waxes they are having at Smooth are "painless" .. I'm here to tell you that there is no such thing as a painless Brazilian; however, I will also tell you that the technique that Tiffany is using makes her waxes the LEAST painful I've ever had (and I've had a lot). She is efficient, gives a clean wax, and is fun to talk to as well. This is really a lovely salon in a great location downtown by MacArthur Center; if you've never been and you're reading this while on the prowl for your next wax, look no further =) use their awesome online booking system and get there! read more

I did it! I got the Brazilian! And guess what? Completely painless! Jasmine is the BEST! She is awesome- you will not regret booking with her! Just as in my previous review, I always receive excellent customer service & never feel uncomfortable! read more

This is the only place I go for waxing. Smooth has a clean, cozy, and welcoming environment. Soothing music, calming fragrances, and a feeling of serenity are a big part of the appeal here. Because the setting is so tranquil, it actually feels like I'm at a spa in spite of the fact that waxing is not terribly relaxing. (I suppose when you have two kids, any time away feels like "me time!") I can't say enough good things about Nicki--she is warm, kind, and an expert at doing a gentle wax. She can answer all your questions and make you feel comfortable with the waxing process. Smooth also has online booking (works great for me because I do everything online these days). Very convenient. I really like the location--Downtown Norfolk is close to my home, but it's easy to get to from the surrounding areas via I-264 thanks to the direct routes that lead into the heart of the city. Be sure to leave yourself a few minutes for parking. I was fortunate to find metered parking right outside the building but it's a little pricey and I was worried that I'd run out of time and be towed--think I'll go with a garage next time. Hands down the best place in this area for this service! read more

Had my first appointment at 'Smooth' today. I scheduled online through 'Schedulicity' - super convenient! I was able to get an appointment through the site for a mani pedi at VIP nail salon next door (which by the way, was fantastic) with my appointment at smooth following. The level of service you receive from the second you walk in, until you've payed and are on your way is great. There is no wait time. Everything was quick, but not rushed, comfortable and painless (painless even throughout and after a Brazilian wax! Impressive. ) Tiffany was my waxer - she was sweet, friendly, and a master of her craft (she obviously knew what she was doing which is comforting in this situation especially.. nothing like a bad wax. ) She even listened to me run my mouth the entire time which kept me completely distracted. Honestly..If I lived in the area, I'd go back and let them wax me all over bi weekly. Unfortunately, not the case.. So until next time! (Also, little did I know - first timers get 20% off. Nice bonus. ) read more

The best experience you can have when someone is ripping out your hair. I've been getting my brows done here for several months because it's only about a block from work. I think I've seen all three waxers and all of them have been great! The place is clean and the staff is professional. read more

This is the second time I've walked into this store with every intention to make a purchase, only to be completely ignored by their staff. The first time was a couple of weeks ago when I came in looking for an engagement gift. I visited again today around 1pm searching for 3-4 items to include in a client gift basket. There were 2 associates on duty and only one other customer who was already at the register purchasing her items. I did a complete 360 degree stroll around the store, stopping to read greeting cards and sample some creams and oils. I walked right past the register where both associates were standing - one was facing me and the other had her back completely turned. Neither said Hello or even acknowledged my presence whatsoever. At that point I decided to take my business elsewhere. If I'm going to be spending a substantial amount of corporate dollars, I'd like for them to go to a store that values my business. I purchased items from Origins and Mat Hatter Studio instead :) A word of advice to management - see the value in every shopper that walks though your door and train your employees to make the most of every customer interaction. read more

Run don't walk and get your Brazilian bikini wax from here! I have gotten bikini waxes for the past 7 years in over 5 different states. This is the best place I have EVER been. I have been to a couple places in VA before finding smooth and it was a massacre ( think waxing the same sensitive area up to three times, then getting the tweezers after that ) It got so bad once I had to leave unfinished. Its amazing how less painful smooth makes this process, with most of the reviews being 5 stars, its a WIN read more

Every time I have an appointmentNikki tells me about this awesome wax pass she does. When it was recently offered, I was a little disappointed Nikki's passes sold out so quickly. The receptionist recommended Jasmine and I had my first appointment with her last week. Jasmine was super gentle and did a great job. After my wax pass is up, I'm thinking about continuing my appointments with her. You know a business is great when you can't decide who you want your appointments with. read more

4 stars only because its near macarthur and you have to find parking then walk to the location, which can be kind of tricky. However the wax is PURPLE! Super cute! Very reasonable prices. Nice receptionist and esthetician! read more

I went to Smooth's website (smoothdowntown.com) and loved the fact that you can see available appointment times and book online. It's also downtown on Plume street, across from Macarthur Center, which makes it accessible. It's a cute little business, very clean, with relaxing music. Hygiene in waxing parlors is important to me. I looked around and give it an A+. It had been almost 4 months since I had my last wax and was worried about how painful it would be. She was very gentle and it was so painless! I was presently surprised when she announced that she was done. Nickie was phenomenal, very personable and sweet. Your first service is 20% off. Can't get any better than that. I'll definitely refer Nickie and have a standing monthly appointment. read more

I got my eyebrows waxed yesterday at Smooth. Such a clean cute place. Everyone was really nice. I am super picky with my eyebrows and I've been growing them back out since a threading place over did them. Starla did my eyebrows. She did such an amazing job! She didn't take too much off and she listened to my needs. Such a sweet lady. Scheduling is super convenient. You can make an appointment right online. I will def be coming back here whenever my eyebrows decide to grow back. Thanks so much! read more

Today was my first visit at smooth, and it was absolutely wonderful. Staff could have been a little more welcoming when you come in, but that is my only complaint. And in my book Jasmine at Smooth is the ONLY way to go! read more

Love this place, Nickie did an awesome job and was so friendly, professional and thorough in her service! My wax didn't even hurt one bit, which most know Brazilians is not the most comfortable waxing process. The place is very small, but the colors, decorating, etc...makes it seem so much bigger. Highly recommend this salon! read more

I would have given 5 stars, but I made my first appointment on the premise that "first timers" received a discount -looked at my receipt- NO discount whatsoever.. Not sure what happened, but I'll happily be paying another visit around my 3rd-4th week anyway. Yay, another repetitive customer! My esthetician made sure to keep me in the loop about what she was doing and whether certain areas were known to hurt more. I was also having trouble with directions, and they were extremely helpful in assisting me with finding my way. For a little over $130, I received a Brazilian bikini, half-leg, and an eyebrow wax (including 20% tip). A little pricey, but well deserved. Chewbacca has been tamed! =) read more

Just moved to the area from California! I found Smooth to be a little difficult to find but once your in, it blew me away! The space is really clean the staff is very friendly and this will be my go to spot for facials and my waxing needs. I did not get the Brazilian done in this visit as that is what clients come in for for the majority of the time. My aesthetician was Michelle! She was really friendly and was experience my full face wax was smooth and fast. I was there for twenty minutes and asked for some cleaning for my brows. She was really sweet and it was Painless!! I will be back to see her in three weeks. Thanks Smooth for the excellent first time experience read more

I am so glad I decided to try out Smooth. I had been going to MacArthur's threading boutique and the lady sadly ruined my brows. I had always preferred threading over waxing, but I had done research and found reviews on Smooth. I had read a review here on yelp about Leah and her eyebrow waxing skills. So I waited until my eyebrows grew out...a lot. I went in and they immediately took care of me. Leah was great. She made me feel super comfortable and it was literally such a pleasurable experience. I've gone a total of only two times and I'm already scheduled for a third. I also LOVE how they have many skincare products whether they be body lotions, body butter and etc read more

Best waxing experience I've had a long time. Nickie was wonderful! She is fast and put all waxing jitters at ease. Since I walked in the place had me impressed with its decoration and wonderful spa smell. The moment I knew I was at the right place was when I saw that Nickie does not double dip the waxing sticks; instead she used a new one everytime. This, in my opinion, if VERY hygenic and speaks wonders of a place. If its your first time, new to the area, or looking for a new place, don't waste your time and try this place out. read more

Today I received the most pleasing, relaxing, and effective facial I have ever had. Most Smooth Yelp reviews I read raved about waxing, so I wondered if facials may not be their primary service. Plus, without a personal referral and being able to book a same day appointment left my expectations moderately hopeful. Everything about Smooth was lovely, from check-in to check-out. The treatment room was neither sparse or crammed - a large soft, comfortable room where my esthetician so gently and aptly applied whatever quality products she explained and, thank you, never tried to sell. Her named started with an "S" and she was so good I actually nodded off a few times. I found her touch, technique and choice of products to be perfect for me. The 2 Smooth employees I interacted with we're warm, smart, professional, accommodating, and very proficient. Definitely try Smooth for a facial if you're in Norfolk! read more

I just moved back to Norfolk and was looking for a wax salon. I found way more than I was looking for with the ladies at Smooth!!!! I had eyebrows, arm and Brazilian done and it was by far the best wax experience I've had since I started waxing five years ago. Hands down! Alyssa (hopefully I am spelling that right) did an amazing job and I will be seeing her again! The gift shop out front is wonderful and right up my alley with tons of candles and other fun goodies. Their Gold Star membership is well worth it if you plan to visit regularly and you get 20% off their merchandise! They even have some goodies for the dudes! I plan on buying lots of Christmas gifts here :). Thank you so much Smooth for a wonderful first time experience. Can't wait to come back! - Kate read more

Awesome location! The decor is very tastefully done and the place very clean! The girl in the front was wonderfully friendly & set a good relaxing vibe which is a good thing because the last thing you want to feel is uneasy right before hair is ripped from your body.
