I think I just found my favorite aesthetician! I am thrilled to share my experience with the Yelp community, particularly the ladies. I had stumbled onto this place from a groupon offered a couple months ago. The price was right. $27 for a full Brazilian wax. Dirt cheap. But we ladies don't just want affordable. We want a place that's hygienic, friendly, convenient, and pretty. Oh and did I mention as painless as possible?? Well look no further. Lynn is the way to go! Smooth Beauty Studio is located in the Connie Gayle Beauty Centre right on the corner of Beretania and McCully opposite the Shell gas station. Easy to find, lots of parking, and sitting in a convenient part of town. If one judged the interior by the way the outside looked, you'd see women fleeing the scene. The blacked out tint and dated wooden building reminds me of an adult toy store. But once you muster up the courage to walk in, everything changes. The Beauty Centre is bright and clean, buzzing with conversation between the hairstylists and customers. White lights enhance the marble floors. Soft blue tones dance with silver metallics that make the place feel bigger than it really is. As I stopped at the reception desk, Lynn had already pegged me as her next client and we hit it off right then and there! She led me into her studio space that is shared amongst the other aestheticians, all working independently from each other. Lynn was professional and comforting, asking the basic questions like "Have you waxed before?" and "When was your last waxing?" She even mentioned that it was important to keep hydrated the couple days before to help the hair removal process. The wax she used was the most gentle I've ever experienced. Brazilians are painful no matter what, but it makes a HUGE difference when the wax grabs the hair properly and the professional removes it cleanly. She told me to inhale, then ripped at the exhale. What a great tip! Throughout the waxing, she spoke to me about her family of five children who have all grown up, her nice husband Pat, and how she used to run her business from home until it got a bit too busy. I can see why! She's professional, comforting, easy to talk to, and very affordable. Because I was SO impressed with the whole experience, I booked my recheck then and there in 4 weeks. I'm writing this review after my first appt with Lynn that actually just happened today. I had a great experience from meeting Lynn to leaving her studio. Lynn is welcoming and cements why I only do hard waxing---sure there's pain involved when waxing but take 2 Advil 30 mins prior and with Lynn telling you when to inhale and exhale, it is actually not that bad. (I started getting waxed when living in NYC and then in Chicago- always staying with the same wax professional in each city bc I lucked out having someone knowledgeable and kind.) Lynn is definitely a keeper ! Glad to have found her on Yelp! Things to note when going for the first time: (1) The entrance is not on the right corner of the building, rather the left side when parked/faced the building. (2) There's a receptionist in the front so tell them you're there to see Lynn. (3) And what I did was also text Lynn that I was there in the lobby. (4) Next you'll fill out a one-sheeter disclosing that you are okay with the services provided and giving your info (phone number, dob, address). Pretty normal stuff. (5) Lynn provides wipes and a towel to drape over your bottom half. Pretty standard. (6) It seemed pretty sanitary to me & she uses gloves. (7) She is by appt only and accepts only cash. I made an appointment with Lynn for my pre-wedding wax. And from the moment I first contacted her, she's been so helpful. I got there about 10 minutes early and texted her to let her know I was there. She immediately came out and got me. She provides wipes to clean yourself before and a towel to cover up. She talked me through everything, especially because I've never used hard wax before. She uses a top quality wax and made sure she got EVERYTHING off. She spent a lot of time making sure I was as clean as ever. We talked the whole time and she just makes you feel so comfortable. I wish I were staying in Hawaii so I can be a regular client of hers. So this is my first review on someone and tbh I'm writing this cause Lynn took care of my intimate areas and that means something so LOL It was my first time waxing and it hurt like from a scale to 1-5 it was a 4. She also has you do breathing exercises so the pain isn't so bad, but for the most part it's bearable and I have a really low pain tolerance. Lynn also talks you through everything and answers any questions you have. She makes you feel very comfortable and open so you don't have to worry about her seeing everything LOL Overall I had a really good experience and Lynn has an amazing personality :) 10/10 would come again :D read more

I haven't even met this lovely lady, but I HAVE to give pre-visit props to her already dazzling customer service. I called her today at around 5:00 pm, inquiring about making an appointment for this week (e.g. Thursday or Friday); YES, late much?? Her voicemail message is very profesh--I left a message noting my name, inquiring if she had openings, what I wanted done and left my contact info. Now, she closes at 6 pm but being the awesome person she is she called me at 5:45 pm and left a message to call her back. I called about 5 minutes later...maybe she could tell how desperate I was but even though she was booked, and I didn't have a LivingSocial deal, she MADE TIME FOR ME to come in saying she would come in early to provide me with what I need. LYNN, YOU ARE A LIFESAVER. I can't even express how amazed I am by her accommodating personality and with all the rave reviews already, I am even more in awe. I would never trust my personal beauty needs to anyone else on the island! She is knowledgeable and is probably the cleanest person to work with. Lynn explains everything she is preparing to do, educates you with any and all procedures, and makes you feel comfortable in your surroundings. I've been seeing Lynn for a few months now and I absolutely love her!! I drive all the way from kunia into town every month because she's that amazing! When I went in for my first appointment with her it was my first ever Brazilian, so needless to say I was super nervous. But as soon as I met her and we started talking all the nerves just slipped away. As others have already mentioned Lynn is very down to earth and easy to talk to. If it's your first time she talks you through the whole procedure and reassures u that u can do it, and that once you get through your first one you'll never want to stop getting it done and she's right! Taking good care of our lady area's has always been a touchy subject. I have been to other locations prior to coming to Smooth Beauty Studio, however I've never felt so comfortable and reassured that I would be taken good care of. Lynn , the owner of Smooth Beauty Studio is incredible. She makes you feel so comfortable during your session and reassures you that if there is any discomfort or pain that you are unable to continue, she will completely stop. I LOVE Lynn. I've been in a few times to see her, and it's been a great experience every time. I had to cancel an appointment on her once because it interfered with my work schedule, and as she was unfortunately booked that week I wound up going elsewhere. Big mistake. Same price, not nearly as great service, and the job wasn't as well done. Definitely staying with Lynn from now on! She is very friendly and makes the whole experience more relaxing (which, if you're anything like me, is a MUST for waxing). She is quick working and uses a great wax, making it much less painful. I actually have an appointment scheduled again tomorrow. I was panicked because my summer class started and interferes with my appointment, which I didn't realize when I scheduled at the time of my last appointment. I called her on Friday and left a message, explaining that I couldn't make it at that time but if she had any other times available, I still wanted to come see her. She called me back this morning and told me that she had a time open tomorrow afternoon, which works perfectly! So after learning the convenience of waxing, I have some major points that an esthetician must hit in order for me to have a really good review. 1. Wipes - I know this is a weird point, but I REALLY enjoy being able to freshen up before the appointment. Otherwise, I just feel embarrassed during my session. Check for Lynn! 2. Cleanliness of wax - I really hate having to go home and do finishing work on my own. Isn't that the point of the Brazilian? I only had to pluck a handful of hairs, but still, I had to do it. 3. Price - Who doesn't want a great deal? $45 and check for Lynn! 4. Convenience - I can usually plan or wait to get an appointment in if a place is really busy, but how about the times where you just need to rush in? Lynn was extremely easy to make an appointment with. I called a few days ago, on a fluke, to see if she had any openings that day for a Brazilian wax. She didn't (which I expected) but worked with my schedule and I was able to score an appointment two days later. She had a very pleasant phone presence and was sure to relay all the necessary info- detailed instructions and address to the studio, helpful tips prior to appointment. I arrived at the Connie Gayle Beauty Salon conveniently located on The corner of Beretania and McCully. It's across the street, HI Kai side of the power tools rental place with the huge marquee featuring clever adages. Lynn greeted me with a warm smile 10 minutes prior to my scheduled appointment (I got there 15 minutes early so I spent 5 minutes eavesdropping on standard beauty shop talk.) After filling out a health related form, Lynn got to work. For being a first timer with Lynn, I have to reiterate the level of ease, comfort, and professionalism she demonstrated; it really made a typically awkward a situation (pants less) not too big of a deal. Her studio is clean and she does a thorough job. There are wipes to pregame. When I got home, I didn't see any strays that I had to target myself which is RAD. The wax smelled nice and although it was painful, it didn't last more than 20 minutes. Lynn gave breathing instructions and next thing you know- wam, bam, thank you, ma'am. Done and clean and easy and fast. Also, BEST BEST part? Her price. 45bones is incredibly economical compared to some other places. The ONLY minor qualm that I have is that there wasn't a hand mirror or anything so I could instantly check out her skill. It wasn't until I got home was I able to inspect her handiwork. Overall, I dig Lynn. She's a sweet woman offering great service. I will definitely be returning for all my waxing needs. So I came to find out about Lynn through a LivingSocial deal, and man was it a deal! This hidden gem is located right on McCully right after shell gas station on the right, inside of Connie Gayle Salon. It was very easy to find (I do have an iphone so google maps was there reassuring me on where to go). On to the waxing experience: She was very nice even though I came about 15 mins late to my appointment (traffic grr), and still squeezed me in! Her room is small but clean and somehow comforting. She talked me through the entire process (which took about 45 mins) and it actually helped me deal with the pain a lot! Waxing hurts no matter what, so I will never rate a waxer based on my pain. My rating of 5 stars is based on her professionalism and how well she waxed. I think that she did a fabulous job and I feel "clean"! Great place to go. I was on my period and used a diva cup and she was okay with it. I've noticed that some places don't let you do that and tell you not to come on your period at all. Usually when I'm on my period or right before my period I notice that I'm much more sensitive to waxing but she was so gentle and it felt less painful than when I'm not even on my period! I've been seeing Lynn for about a year now. It took me so long to write a review, because honestly I didn't want to share her. She is absolutely the BEST! Now that I am done being selfish, I refer all my friends. Her rates for waxing, especially for a Brazilian are by far the best. When I first moved to the island ... that was honestly top priority for me to find a new place to get waxed. Come on, in a bikini almost every day... ALL the ladies should be coming here. If not for yourself, please do it for everyone else at the beach. Lynn made me feel so comfortable and she's very personable, I didn't miss my old aesthetician at all. She is very clean! No double dipping of the waxing sticks going on here. AND YES, there are places that unfortunately do that. She is very thorough to make sure you are definitley left SMOOTH. I have been to different waxing salons on the island, in Texas, and Washington State and she has been by far the best. Literally just finished my FIRST time ever Brazilian wax with Lynn. She is amazing at making you feel comfortable. It really was a "smooth" experience lol. But in all seriousness it went a lot better than I expected. Of course it hurt, but it really does depend on the person. I handle pain well so I didn't find it excruciating. Finding the salon was very easy it's right on the corner and there was ample parking for a Friday afternoon. I walked in and no one was at the reception desk so I waited about 5 minutes and Lynn greeted me. She had me fill out paperwork and because I was super early, I waited a bit until she was finished with her client. When she was ready, I was guided to a small, cozy room towards the opposite end of the hallway. She instructed me on what to do, how to do it & we jumped right in. She told me ways on how to breathe during the waxing. And during we just held a comfortable conversation. I was done in about 20 min. I came to her heavily pregnant and having been unable to shave for quite a while and traumatized by about bad experience 10 years ago that was very painful and caused bleeding, making me swear to never get waxed again. However my obgyn requested that I get waxed prior to the birth so I reluctantly made an appointment. Lynn assured me that her products were high-quality and wouldn't cause the same level of pain. Lynn is so experienced, professional, friendly, and accomodating! She got back to me within an hour after leaving a voice mail. On the day of, she came out to the parking lot to find me and I didn't even call her or anything (I guess I looked really lost haha). Though this isn't my first brazillian, she still walked me through it because it has been years since I had my last one. She was super prepared too! The night before, I was telling my girlfriends to bring baby wipes to wipe off before and afte waxing, but Lynn has all of that ready for us to use. On top of that, and probably the most important part of this review, is that she's super hygienic; every time she places wax on me, she would throw away the tongue depressor that she used and would get a new one for the next placement of wax. Today was the first day I went to Lynn for a Brazilian wax & so far I love her! Before coming here, I would go to the The Waxing Company for my Brazilian waxes. However, it really is pricy & my favorite aesthetician there had left so I decided to come to a different place to get my waxing done. I searched on yelp, and came across this place & thank goodness I found Lynn. She really is sweet and easy to talk to, not only that but a Brazilian wax is only $45 (compared to $85 & $65 for maintenance at the waxing co.)! The place is also really nice and clean, which was surprising because looking at the building on the outside, I wouldn't have ever suspected such a cute place. There is also parking, but I heard that on weekends it can get pretty busy. So if you're planning to get a wax with Lynn, do it on a weekday! I plan to come back again soon! (: read more
