The Long Version: The Alembic Stillhouse is the restaurant/pub attached to the Cartier Suites Hotel. It has the usual pub fare like fish and chips, burgers, chicken fingers, etc. but it also has some Latin American dishes like arepas, tequenos, tostones and churros. My husband and I had dinner here and it was overall really good. I had the Arepa with Soup ($15) and added a second arepa for an additional $9. I got the Pabellon and Reina arepas. The soup of the day was tomato basil. My husband had the fish and chips ($18). I really enjoyed my arepas. The Pabellon was layered with shredded beef and feta cheese on top (the open end), and black beans and plantains on the bottom (the closed end). The Reina had the filling uniformly distributed - pieces of lean chicken breast mixed with avocado and cilantro crema. The corn meal arepa shell was crispy on the outside and held the fillings very well. I can't even decide which one I liked better because both were so good. I didn't like the tomato basil soup though. It had a cheesy note to it which I found off-putting. However, my husband loved it, so I gave it to him. My husband enjoyed his fish and chips. I had a bit of his fish and while it was crispy on the outside and moist and flaky on the inside, it had a strong fishy smell and taste that I didn't like. The fries were crispy and hot but were from frozen. Service was pleasant. The place has a pub feel. They have karaoke on Fridays starting at 8pm. We left before it started, lol. 5 stars for the arepas, 3 stars for the other food I tried, so 4 stars overall since service was good. I would get the arepas again. Street parking is the best bet (some streets have free parking and some streets have paid metered parking which is about $3 an hour). There's indoor hotel parking but it's a daily rate and over $20. We went with the Alembic Poutine and the Pabellon, something we know and something different. It was all super tasty! The meats were the best part as well as that crispy plantain! And the black beans, wow! It's different than the usual black beans you would get. They've added some spices in there and other veg to really make it flavourful. A unique experience in Ottawa!

I've been to their sister restaurant Town prior to the pandemic and loved their menu so I was super excited to try this place! I love their menu - they change from time to time and it's always refreshing to see new dishes to try I loved the meatball dish when I dined at Town prior to the pandemic so I was so glad to that they kept that on their menu at Citizen! Featuring: - Quebec pork country pâté - smooth and delicious, the condiments/sides adds depth and complexity to the dish - Burrata and Peperonata - cheese was super fresh and that pepeonata - I don't like olives normally but Loved it on this! - Humboldt squid calamari - amazing squid - lightly battered and the cucumber salad underneath adds a refreshing tone - town meatballs - just as good as I remembered it the first time, swipe to see how large that meatball is My server also recommend one of the best raspberry beers I've ever had. Every single dish was excecuted to perfection and the flavours are complexed yet balanced, and presentation was impressive. If you're ever in ottawa, def check them out! They also have an online shop in their Town location for pantry items as well as beer, ciders and wine!

Overall: D // 2 stars…read more This bar does not live up to the great name of the Andaz hotel chain it shares presence with. Their drinks had quite unmemorable flavors and mundane aesthetic. I also found their bar menu to fit the theme very well as the dishes sounded more like plated dining rather than finger foods or sharable plates. Additionally, while the establishment has very pleasant rooftop views of the city, I found the staff to be generally aloof or neglecting throughout service and failing to take advantage of this great ambience; we had to actively chase them down for water, the menu for bar snacks, and the check among other things which lowers my opinion of this establishment. (Golden Hour: B) - An easy to palette, fruit and sugar-forward cocktail that works well. I do wish the presentation was more elaborate. (Sights & Spritz: C) - Another drink thats lightweight and easy to palette. There are notes of lemon and lavender that come through, but it feels like its missing character. The main attraction of this place is that is has the absolute best view of the Ottawa skyline overlooking parliment hill. A great chill spot to get a few drinks and get in the views. If you can try to book so you can see the sunset over the city. My only gripe was they imposed a strict 60 min limit for the next guests so make sure you make your time worth it.
