This place has terrible service. We waited forever for our food. And then i was served Worst chicken and waffle sandwich I have ever had. The chicken was so hard I couldn't bite though it.When I told the waitress she was happy to take it back and get me something else. Stopped in for a sandwich this afternoon during a bike ride on the Freeport trail. This place makes a kickass brisket sandwich. The staff was great. We also had some excellent pulled pork. I will be coming back with others that appreciate brisket done perfectly. read more

Beef brisket was super tender, smoked and not over smoky and dry. It was really great in terms of taste and texture. You could taste the beef without it being overly spiced to take away from the beef taste. I chose mashed potatoes with gravy as a side- HOMEMADE potatoes and gravy! They were delicious smashed style with plenty of butter, salt, and gravy. The cornbread that came with my dinner was great, very dense and piping hot served with some honey butter for dipping. My salad was much better than I expected- a high end greens mix with homemade buttermilk bacon ranch. I never order ranch dressing, but, I am sure glad that I did. It was delicious and the perfect compliment to the greens, red onion, and grape tomatoes. It was a real treat as I was expecting some sort of iceberg mix. Other member of my party got a panko breaded and deep fried fish sandwich that was huge on a crusty roll, homemade tarter, and fires. A simple order that arrived great, hot and crispy. My husband and I went last Wednesday for the lunch buffet. We were so disappointed. I had high hopes as we walked in, decor is what you would expect for a BBQ restaurant. It was just my husband and I and a group of 3 men in the place and that was the lunch rush. Most of the food on the buffet was inedible. There was not one bit of BBQ on the buffet , not a whole lot of options on the buffet either. The smoked turkey was the best thing on the buffet but it was still a bit dry despite the fact that it swam in liquid. Now for the real gross stuff ...we could not find a clean plate on the buffet. My husband picked up a plate that actually had a chunk of some sort on it. You really have to not care about your job and customers to put those dishes out. The sweet tea is the best I have had outside of my own home. Maybe we should have ordered off the menu, but after reading the reviews I think we will just take our consumer dollars elsewhere. I was very pleasantly surprised with lunch at Smokin' Toads in Sarver. I went with a group of four. Everybody ordered something different, so I got to sample the hot-smoked salmon dinner with mac and cheese and collards, fried chicken, pork bbq cone, and the turkey dinner. ALL WERE DELICIOUS. Throw in free chicharrones, and four drinks and it came $68.00, which wasn't bad for all that food (two were dinner entrees). Everybody was stuffed...no room for the desserts, although the dessert menu looked tempting (choc. chip skillet cookie a la mode). The service was prompt and polite, but it was lucky they weren't too busy as there were only two servers. I really hope this place is a hit in a spot that hasn't been lucky for two predecessors. I went there with my father in law and husband in the summer time. The place looks really neat inside, definitely would be a cool place to hang. The food we ordered was pretty good. I definitely plan to go back again. A big plus is that there is a brewery that opened next to it. read more

We've been here at least four times - nothing but great experiences! The food is excellent - we have tried the pork belly tacos, philly brisket bbq sandwich, pomegranate chicken salad, the pork-q-cone and a steak salad, I believe, and they have all been to die for. We are now stuck on the pork-q-cone and brisket sandwich, as they are our favorites, with cornbread (sometimes a bit dry for how dense it is) and fries. The menu is unique, which I know doesn't always fly in our area, and that's why we love it. They are taking a chance and our tastebuds are being rewarded. The service was a bit off once, which I chalk up to it being a newer restaurant and the staffer just not knowing the menu, but it's still the best you're going to get in Sarver. We own a small business and stop all over the Pittsburgh area and end up traveling a lot further. Point is we eat out too much so we have had our fair share of bad food and service and this is not the place. We heard about this place and also that the chef had been an executive chef at a 5 star restaurant prior to this. We were nothing short of amazed with the food selections that we tried. If you are not a barbecue fan there are plenty of choices other than smoked or barbecue like burgers, pizza, sandwiches, etc. I read some of the bad reviews and had to laugh at some because obviously people don't know their meats at all. Some of the most flavorful meats ( and this may come as a shocker to some that do not wish to educate themselves or listen to the kind waitress) have fat in them. There are several cuts of certain meats but the more tender and flavorful unfortunately contain fat. If you don't like fat then don't order those cuts of meat. I'm glad there is a barbecue place close to us that I don't have travel half way across the state to find excellent food. The comment about the floor being sticky is too much, because I guess they never have been to a Texas Roadhouse who happens to be a huge chain now. All I know is we will be back and I can't wait to try more items! read more

The loaded potato soup had no flavor or potato for that matter, the brisket and belly were really greasy and also bland. I've been to Smokin' Toads twice in the past month and I was very pleased with both experiences. Staff were friendly and accomodating. Last time, we were there with an 18 month old and a 4 year old and they were thoughtful enough to put us in our own room in the back so the kids could be kids without disturbing other partons. This allowed our party to relax and enjoy our meal. Food was excellent both times. We tried a little bit of everything...appetizers, brisket, pulled pork, pork belly, chicken, salmon, mac n cheese (so good!), coleslaw, etc. They also had about 6 different bbq sauces. They brought samples of each for us to try and then we asked for more of our favorites. Portion sizes were generous as we all left stuffed with leftovers for lunch. The BYOB feature is also a plus. And the decor is unique and a great fit for a bbq restaurant. I'd highly recommend Smokin' Toads. read more

I wanted to post a good review...BUT...So-so food. Not much more to say on that topic as it was forgettable. NO WI-FI. In fact can't get cell service in that dungeon but near front window. Was asked for suggestions by manager so they may succeed. Gave suggestion of wi-fi, but was poo-pooed by manager by telling us we are there to enjoy our dinner, not be on our phones. First, don't ask for suggestions if you don't want to accept them graciously. Secondly, don't TELL me I need to enjoy my dinner and not be on my phone, that is MY choice NOT yours. If you want people to BYOB and hang out, you NEED wi-fi or cell service. Needless to say, I won't be back and taking bets on how long this place will last. read more

We had the BBQ beef and chicken with two different appetizers. The serves was slow, although we were were seated quickly. May I say there werent that busy. Appetizers were served cold, the pretzel with Mac and Cheese (and my I add there were other issued; my daughter said that's not my hair cooked into the food) so she would not eat anything else. The entrees were dry and nearly luke warm. This might be OK for takeout at this temp if you heat it up at home. My kids love BBQ and thought this would be a nice place to try. On the other hand this is a new place so of course there will be issues in getting it right. read more

I tried out lunch today at Smokin' Toads. The decor is really nice. You can tell they put a lot of work and thought into it. I was sad to see that there weren't many tables filled at lunch time. I hear so many in the Sarver area say there aren't enough food services or businesses. Why would a business spend the money and waste time if the community isn't going to support them? Ok, off my soapbox and on to my revue! I had the Roasted Chicken Salad with pomegranate seeds and pecans. The salad came with a poppyseed dressing. It was delicious. My fellows diners enjoyed a Roasted Turkey and Bacon sandwich served with fries, also the Plain Jane Pulled Pork sandwich with a side of Mac and Cheese. One of us also bought take out Bbq for their lucky husband for dinner! Pulled Pork, Ribs and sides. (I wish I had some of the bbq right now.) We all left the restaurant happy that we pushed past the mediocre reviews. It was a great atmosphere with a great lunch. I will be taking my family soon. I suggest you all do the same! read more

I just discovered another instant top five local eatery! Go check out SMOKIN' TOADS BBQ in Sarver. It is a foodies wet dream! Between three meals I probably sampled 20 different foodstuffs from brisket, dry rubbed ribs with raspberry jalapeño BBQ sauce, mashed potatoes, coleslaw with apples, smoked flavored mac 'n cheese, and pumpkin pancakes with (yes) pulled pork. We really wanted to like this place, but it didn't happen. The food was bland, mediocre and in a way it tasted old...as if it wasn't freshly made. We tried this place when it first opened and were disappointed then but we decided to give it another shot. After doing so I'm shocked that they're still open. They have a lot of variety on their menu and everything sounds wonderful, but the food doesn't deliver. We ordered the three taco appetizer and the fried mozzarella ball for starters. The entrees we chose were the pork fajitas, the brisket mac and cheese, the chicken and garlic gnocchi and the smoked sliders. We had the pork belly taco, the shrimp taco and the smoked salmon taco. They were all ok. They just needed a little salt to bring up the flavor but there was nothing off putting about them. The mozzarella on the other hand was not good at all. The mac and cheese was actually cold and had to be sent back for a new one and even hot it wasn't very good. The pork in the fajitas tasted like it was warmed leftovers that sat in the fridge too long. The sauce and seasoning for the chicken didn't mesh well. The sliders were tasty but we took them off the bun because there wasn't much meat compared to the amount of bread. We brought more than half of the food home and it's sat in the fridge for two days now. It was a big waste of money and food. I'd really like to see them succeed but I'm just not real confident they can stay open if they continue to serve sub-par food. We won't be giving them another try. read more

Let me start by saying how much I wanted this place to be awesome since it is really close to my house. Ordered take out for lunch for two people to try a bunch of stuff. Ordered the belly buster (pork belly and brisket) with baked beans and fries, pulled pork tacos, and pretzel Mac and cheese. It was ready quickly. When we got the order home we found that the belly buster order did not have and pork belly, disappointing. Pork tacos were ok. Ciltantro and sour cream was good but there was no smoke to the pork and no sauce or flavor to the meat. Pretzel Mac and cheese was good except that the entire bottom was burned what wasn't burned was good. Slight sweetness and the pretzel crust is a cool twist. The brisket was extremely fatty. Three slices were almost completely fat. The brisket also had no smoke flavor at all. Traditional bbq sauce was basically ketchup. Carolina sauce was good. Baked beans were hard and flavor was not good. Corn bread and fries were ok. So to some it up, flavorless, smokeless meat, burned Mac and cheese, bad baked beans and not so good bbq sauce. I tried this place when they first opened and was not impressed at all, leaving a 2 star review. I am editing my review now because I think things have significantly improved since then and they deserve a better review. All of the food we have had since our first experience has been excellent. Steak salad, pork tacos, burgers, etc. I will admit we are afraid to try the ribs again because those were not good the first trip there although I am curious if those have also improved. Wednesday nights are $5.99 build your own burger and fries night. Very good burger and fries and it's just an added bonus that they are only $6! They are BYOB - no alcohol served here. Although there is a brewery right in the same parking lot which has excellent beer and their food comes from Smokin Toads. Their food (smaller menu and some different items that are not offered at the restaurant) is also excellent. I encourage anybody who tried them when they first opened and had a bad experience to GO BACK and try them out now. I am afraid the first impression might have turned a lot of people away, so I wanted to edit my review to hopefully help them gain some business. They are a good local restaurant. read more

Heard good reviews from our neighbors, so finally had a chance to try this - and happy because Sarver need some good restaurants. Place was not busy - around 8:00 on a Friday night. Ordered ice tea with lemon and sweetners. When the server brought the drinks, no lemon or sweetner. Reminded her, and 10 minutes later had to go looking for her. Never acknowledged that she forgot or apologized. Seemed very under trained. Food was ok, not really good, just okay. Had the fish sandwich and it had NO seasoning, I had to salt the heck out of it and the cilantro/lime coleslaw. My son had a pork bbq sandwich and really enjoyed it. In the end, one of my son's ordered the red velvet cake, which cost $5.00 for a 1.5 inch slice of cake. Icing was freezer burned and tasted terrible. They were kind enough to take it off our bill. We only eat out about once every couple month with our kids, and not sure this is where we will return. Not the best food for our money. read more
