I also had the mac and cheese both times not because it's amazing but because they lack veggie sides. They don't have green beans, collard greens, or corn. The mac and cheese tend to be sticky and dry from sitting in the heater box. Adding a little milk and reheating does it great justice. As far as the meats the chicken was my least favorite. That being said, I'm very critical of my chicken as it's my preferred protein. Most often it's dry and that's the case here, the seasoning seemed like an afterthought or maybe that's because of the dryness. Their brisket and pulled pork were both solid choices. The pulled pork is tender with a great bun if you get a sandwich and the brisket is hearty and smokey. There was no question as to lean or fatty so that's a Texas classic that was missed. Regardless it was still great as far as Pittsburgh vicinity BBQ. The atmosphere of this place is a bar that also has gambling and tables for the bbq joint. One time I visited they had live music outside. It seems like a great community gathering spot but I've only ever had takeout.

It is located in the parking lot of a Bruster's Ice Cream, but don't let the location deter you from being a customer. This food truck makes better BBQ than many brick-and-mortar restaurants. The current hours are lunch and dinner on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. So far, I have been a customer here one time. The menu on the truck listed meats of pulled pork, beef brisket, baby-back ribs, and chicken and sides of potato salad, coleslaw, mac & cheese, BBQ baked beans, baked potato, French fries, cornbread, and bread roll. Platters and family meals are available, and customers also have the option to customize a sandwich, wrap, salad, etcetera. I ordered the Family Meal with 4 pieces of chicken, 8 ounces of pulled pork, 8 ounces of beef brisket, a half rack of ribs, 4 cornbread muffins, one large potato salad, and one large baked beans for a total of $62. An employee promptly took my order and payment, and several minutes later she handed over my meal. I ate the meal at home a while later. I enjoyed all of the meats and sides. My favorites were the brisket, which had the perfect smoky flavor and amount of fat, and the potato salad, which was slightly tangy. Furthermore, the pulled pork and the chicken were juicy, the ribs were tender and had a decent rub, the cornbread was slightly sweet, and the baked beans were spicy. A few small containers contained the Original BBQ sauce, but the meats were so flavorful that I did not even need the sauce.

The meats are smoked daily with a blend of hickory, cherry, and apple woods. Dining in, carry-out, delivery, and catering are available. So far, my husband and I have eaten three lunches from Big Rigs BBQ--two for dining in and one as a $250 takeout for family. We have tried most of the menu items and really enjoyed all of them. I have not yet tried every BBQ restaurant in the Pittsburgh region, but so far, Big Rig's BBQ is our favorite. For meats, we ate the brisket (5 stars, very tender and flavorful), baby-back ribs (5 stars, fall-off-the-bone and tasty), pulled-pork shoulder (4.5 stars, nicely smoked and goes well with the many sauces), original kielbasa (4.5 stars), cheddar-jalapeno kielbasa (4.5 stars), pineapple kielbasa (5 stars, an explosion of unique, delicious flavors), pork-belly burnt ends (4.5 stars, tender with a very flavorful sauce), turkey (4.5 stars, juicy and flavorful), and smoked turkey-club sandwich (5 stars, my husband loves its cheddar, bacon, lettuce, and dijonaise). For sides, we ate the mac and cheese (4 stars, American, cheddar, and pepper jack), potato salad (4.5 stars, with bacon, scallions, cheddar cheese, bell peppers, and mustard), cornbread (5 stars, with cheddar cheese and BBQ honey butter), BBQ baked beans (5 stars, very flavorful ingredients), and brussels sprouts (5 stars, tasty sauce). This BBQ restaurant also serves some salads. I ate a BBQ salad (5 stars) with my choice of protein, Nashville Chicken Breast. This salad might be the most loaded-up that I have ever eaten. Fresh lettuce and tomatoes as well as generous amounts of chicken, bacon, cornbread croutons that look ~2" in diameter, cheese, onions, and cranberries.

I ended up with the brisket which was decent but the meat and rice were cold so the flavor didn't really pop as much. There was one option for BBQ sauce, I wish there was more because I ended up not liking it. It was on the sweeter side. I'd recommend asking for it on the side rather than getting it scooped on the entire bowl. The brisket portion was super generous which I was impressed by but it was hard to eat because it was in super long strips and not in bite sized portions. The plastic fork and knife provided did their best but it was a struggle trying to navigate using them with the shape of the bowl. Skip the sides. The greens tasted canned. Cornbread was soggy on the bottom and hard on the top. Mac and cheese was okay but not amazing. The entire meal felt like a strange combination of store bought sides/toppings and home cooked things. If they focused on fresher ingredients I think it would be a game changer. The concept is cool but it wasn't fully actualized. The people were 5 stars though. Very friendly and kind. We got food relatively quickly. You can eat in the restaurant but most people got their food to go while we were there. I think if I had gotten a sandwich instead, I may have had a different experience. The rice bowl with brisket was my choice because it was a crowd favorite but it just may not be for me. Id suggest starting with a classic sandwich and crafting an opinion from that if you plan to try this spot.

Unfortunately, my experience was not great...not totally awful, but there is lots of room for improvement. I stopped in around 1:00 on a Saturday, and it was still kind of hard to park in their tiny lot. To a person, the staff all seemed annoyed to be there, and that kind of flavored my experience. They have lots of interesting items on their menu for a BBQ place - pork buns, etc. - but for my first meal I went with the basics. I ordered a brisket sandwich, the mac-n-cheese, and a coke. I was given a number to put on my table, and then sat down. The sandwich was soon delivered, but no side. When I asked about my mac-n-cheese I was told "it's coming later" in a less than friendly tone. The brisket was a bit dry and chewy, and there was nothing else on the sandwich. The mac-n-cheese was far less impressive. This was not a scoop of grandma's baked goodness, but something more institutional...basically boiled pasta with a bland and watery sauce. Everyone can have a bad day, so I will likely give Mitch's another shot, but I was not happy during my first visit.
