Our family came to Smokin Toads for the first time this weekend and we all loved it -- which is rare when you have picky eaters and kids in your group! The portions are great, prices are reasonable and you can tell that everything is homemade. Our youngest cleared his plate in no time and we had to get a tub of the homemade ranch dressing to take home with us. Definitely recommend for families -- we'll be back for sure. read more

The fried Gouda cheese app was delicious and filling. The Southern Fried Crispy Chicken sandwich is soaked in Dill Pickle juice. I asked specifically before getting and was told no, just regular chicken. One bite said differently. Asked again and "I just found out it is" Sweet pickles " were actually bread and butter slices . Not sweet + even after telling I don't like dill pickles, there was a big sloppy pickle spear on the plate. The side (recommended by our server) of Mac n cheese was very creamy and delicious. Fried Cod fish sandwich and sweet potato fries ordered by my friend was very big portion and tasty. 3/14/2025- We are new to Sarver area and found Smokin Toads. Thursday 3/13 we had brisket which was very good. Friday we had the panko cod. This was one of the best fish sandwiches we ever had. We ordered at 3, which I acknowledge is an off time. Got ribs and brisket. Ribs seemed microwaved and the bbq sauce that was solidified on the ribs tasted like hunts ketchup, but worse. Brisket also appeared to be microwaved and didn't even have all the water drained off. Very fatty and bland. I got a burger for the kid. She really liked it and the fries. Getting a table was a bit of a headache despite an empty large indoor space (waited over 10 minutes by the wait to be seated sign). But once seated, things went well. $1 whole Buffalo ranch wings which looked like Buffalo but had ranch powder. Also a smoked Gouda and pulled pork patty melt with cilantro lime slaw. Food was 5/5. Got my check while still eating but took 10 minutes for it to be taken once I took my card out. Between getting the table and getting my card back, I was late to my race tickets a mile down the road. Big portions of delicious BBQ. This restaurant has lots of seating and they specialize in special events. I was surprised that greens are not on the menu, but they have many other standards, such as Mac 'n' Cheese, Cole Slaw, and Green Beans. The Cole Slaw came as a starter appetizer, and it was delicious. It navigated the boundaries of sweet and vinegary with special finesse. My son and I wanted to try something new. So we drove 30 mins to get there. upon arrival the entrance is confusing. But you walk in thinking it looks rustic. But its not. Its drab, dark and depressing. The restaurant was completely empty which is a bad sign. The floor was sticky, and my shoes were dirty when I left. We ordered the patty melt, the turkey wrap with mash and fries , along with mac n chz. So, the only thing that wasn't old and dry was the patty melt n fries. My turkey wrap was so dry I couldn't eat it. My Mashed potatoes were old and grey, The mac n chz was so bland and flavorless we took one bite and left it. Onto service. What service? The place was empty, yet we just sat waiting for someone to come by. My sons' soda stayed empty the entire time. I'm sorry, but we do not recommend. We had Todd cater our wedding, and the food was AMAZING. Two weeks after the day, we are still hearing from our guests about how much they loved the food! The ribs had the right chew and texture, juicy and delicious. The brisket had amazing flavor, and there was plenty to go around for all of us. Mac and cheese, best mac and cheese we've had in a long time. Best part was that he arrived at the venue early to finish the final food preparations instead of transporting them already cooked. He was friendly, kind, humble, amazing to work with, and it's evident that he cares about the quality of his food. We could not have asked for better service, and the next time we're back in Pittsburgh, we're making a trip out to Smokin' Toads! read more

This place is terrible. We went three years ago and weren't impressed so we decided to try it again 3 years later...guess what...NO CHANGE. I ordered smoked salmon with a cherry glaze on top of a bed of apple fennel slaw. The salmon was dry and had no sauce, I had to ask for sauce and was given literally less than an ounce. The green apples were very hard and the fennel was hard and didn't complement each other. The best part of my meal was the side salad. My husband ordered the bbq hog platter. Ribs were overcooked and burnt, pork belly was rubbery and pulled pork was dry without sauce. He asked for the "homemade" bbq sauce and it was glorified ketchup. I normally don't write reviews. We tried this place awhile ago and it wasn't very good. We decided to try it again it was awful. The meat was watery and cold mostly fat very gross, ribs were terrible and the baked beans were below par. I told my wife it deserves a half of star. She said she would give it 2 stars. Food is consistently tasty. Pulled pork and burgers never disappoint. However when you call in an order the service is less than friendly and never forthcoming with requested information. For example, if you dont know there are sauce options for pulled pork sandwich, it will be served dry. You're never prompted to for this information and you feel like your a major inconvenience for asking. I tolerate the service only because the food is good! read more

Was passing through town and decided to give it a try...disappointing. We got the cheese sticks and pretzels for appetizers. The sauces were smoked and had a decent flavor. The cheese sauce looked a little odd but was ok. The grilled Caesar salad was not at all appetizing. The BBQ sauce for ribs wasn't very good either. Not a good blend of spices and taste. My wife and I took my mom there for lunch today (3/21/2019). It was our first time there, and I have to say that we enjoyed it. My wife was a little chilly during our lunch, and we were a little disappointed that the lunch buffet wasn't running, but our food was good and we had no complaints about the service. My wife had the ribs with the raspberry sauce and was quite fond of them. I tried the pulled pork sliders (the three little pigs, I think?) and while I would have liked a little more heat in them, I would just ask for a different sauce next time. And finally, my mom built her own sandwich (I forget the name of this option on the menu) and loved it, polishing off the whole thing. So, if you like BBQ, I'd say it's definitely worth giving it a shot. If you're not sure, just head there for lunch some time to try it out! read more

We ordered togo being that you cant dine in anywhere. We were about 45mins away when I placed the order. Our food was hot like it just got done when we pick it up. Me and my husband picked to split Salmon tacos and a shrimp taco they were fantastic! We also split the smoken sliders and those were another fantastic pick the bacon and glaze or whatever was so freaking good. On a whim we had the Scotch Egg (so weird I know) it was so delicious it was only one egg but cut in half and a great starter for me and him to try. So just if your thinking theres more then one theres not. Ate at Smokin Toads for first time with teachers and aides on last day of school. Couldn't decide on pizza, burgers or fish since everyone raved about each. It was Thursday and their special was 8 slice pizza with one topping for $5.99. Everyone loved their food and due to big portions ended up taking half of it home. As several others have stated on Yelp, Google reviews, and other review sites... the food was not good! The ribs were tuff and cold. The brisket was cold, shredded and greasy slop. The coffee was warm and tastes strange. 5 out of 7 I know for certain was not impressed. The other 2 felt bed for the waitress because they knew her. She was very nice and it's not her fault the food there was not worthy to buy. We refused the order and the 2 woman did attempt to make it better with a few options however to wait even longer while everyone else was eating while being on a schedule was not feasible. We left. The owner never came out to address us yet rebutted a review on facebook calling another party member who posted a review, a childish person saying he could care less about what the customer thinks about the food. Wow. Is all I can say to that. Reviews are ones opinions and as an owner you have to accept it and improve! Went here for lunch on a Wednesday despite the reviews. No one but my wife and I and one other person during the entirety of the lunch hour. Food was excellent. Truffle parmesan fries for an appetizer were excellent - perfectly cooked and seasoned. I had the bachelor mac and cheese. Mac n cheese with smoked brisket, bacon, a pickle, jalapeno peppers and blue cheese. It was delicious if not a little runny. Brisket was well smoked and not overly fatty. The one thing lacking was blue cheese (only had one crumble) and had minimal amounts of bacon. Wife loved her burger and cilantro coleslaw. Service was friendly and attentive. Decor was rustic and appealing. Would definitely recommend based on our experience. read more

This was our first visit here. The atmosphere fits the theme of the restaurant and we were seated quickly as there were many open tables at dinnertime on a Friday night. We waited at least 15 minutes after ordering before receiving our salads. The meals took a very long time and the waitress stopped by our table on numerous occasions to apologize for the wait. We did receive a tiny slice of complimentary cheesecake for the delay of our food. My husband ordered the beef brisket which was more like roast beef than brisket. I ordered the pork brisket which was very under done and not edible. I would have sent it back, but I was not willing to wait any longer to eat my meal. I want to love this place so much because the entire staff is so nice, but the food is not that great. We went on a Friday before the dinner rush and my ribs came out so blackened and dry that it was hard to eat them. I felt like I was eating jerky. My husband and I have given this place two tries so far and both times were not at all pleased. Also, they should rethink the whole grilling lettuce for caesar salads. Who wants wilted warm lettuce? When we ate here in 2016 the food was much better quality. This time the cornbread was so gross I couldnt even eat it. We brought in a group of 15 people for dinner (a brew club, it's BYOB) and everyone was served quickly and efficiently...if we didn't stick around to BS, we could've been out in an hour. I ordered the brisket BBQ Philly sandwich and I was very impressed. Tender, smokey brisket with your standard cheesesteak toppings with your choice of side. I went with the mac and cheese, and it may have been better than the brisket sandwich. I'm a fan of the basement atmosphere and the staff was very friendly. My rating is based on the lunch buffet that I had today. Quick review: Mushy, greasy, the meat was sooty, and the rest bland &underdone. Oh, yes... and over-priced. I left with the after taste of oily creosote & coffee in my mouth. Quite honestly, pass on this if you were considering it. The buffet is a smaller smaller setup with several options which in and of themselves sound appealing. The restaurant is dim and the seating is awkward. The buffet offerings change daily, runs Monday through Friday from 11 am until 2 pm. Quite really, there are better ways to spend your time and money. The Longer Review: I tried the following: The Meats: brisket, pulled pork, and pulled chicken. - so here's the thing, these were all submerged in their own respective container in a greasy "soup", which resulted in each meat being an oily experience with monotone flavors... that said... Brisket - overly smoked. I couldn't really pick up on any spicing or rub, but they must be using a wood smoke or wood charcoal. Oak? Hickory? and creosote. That's what I got from this. No real "beef" taste. Stringy because of the... was it supposed to be au jus? Pulled Pork - it was definitely a different texture than the beef... with the same sooty punch of monotony. There were large chunks where the center had escaped the soup and that was... ok. I was turned off by the rather substantial blobs of fat that found their way into the bin, though. Pulled Chicken - wow! This was a change. Just a greasy, mushy blob of blandness. I don't think that the chicken was roasted before being ripped apart and thrown into the vat. Boiled, maybe? Baby food like, but more solid. Mac & Cheese - a soupy, flour-starchy, mess of bland. Not really cheesy to speak of. Black Eyed Pea Soup - I thought it was a french onion soup at first, but a scoop and a peruse of the label let me know otherwise. Peas were underdone. I wasn't really wanting to explore it further after that. Onion and a green leafy vegetable were also there. Scalloped Potatoes - grainy, runny, flour sauce with underdone potato slices entombed. Pierogies - Bought in. Alright... but just boiled then quickly, but not thoroughly drained, and dumped in butter. Onions were underdone, thick, and did not give much to the butter. I think they just cut the onion and dumped it into the butter. I just don't understand. Kielbasa & Sauerkraut - Instructions: Open package of kielbasa and package of sauerkraut. Cut kielbasa into 1" segments. Pour sauerkraut and kielbasa into serving container. Serve. The kielbasa was mushy. The most off putting was the slightly ham flavored gruel texture. Just inexplicable. Greens - Bland, underdone, gritty... spice? I can't remember. No ham or bones to be found. A poor presentation. Bread - some store bought variety... and no. I won't be back. I tried a scoop or two of these and for the most part, pushed half my first plate off to the side, and tried the meat again and gave up 2 bites in. I left with an upset tummy, a nasty after taste in my mouth, and really just wanted to brush my teeth. read more

I wanted to give a higher score but there were too many things I couldn't ignore. There were two servers and a busboy to cover the entire dining room during evening rush on a Saturday night. Service was very, very, very slow but it wasn't the servers fault. They were struggling to keep up while there were four employees gathered at the hostess stand chatting and oblivious to the situation in the dining room. I don't know if someone called in sick or if that was normal staffing but it should have been all hands on deck doing whatever they had to in order to keep with the service. Nobody pitched in to help. There didn't seem to be anyone managing the situation. The good thing was the ribs,they were cooked so that the meat fell off the bone. The brisket was a little dry but good. The corn bread was served cold like it just came out of the refrigerator. Every BBQ restaurant I have been to serves it warm and with butter which was never present. They have four sauces which are just okay. They bring all four to the table in tiny cups for everyone to use, barley enough for one person let alone a table of four. Smokin Toads has a lot of potential and I really hope that management takes all the reviews seriously and in the spirit of change because from what I saw they are a work in progress. read more

Worst food I have ever ordered:/ Ribs tasted reheated, and beef brisket was gross. The cornbread was cold & disgusting! Smallest portion of like a 1/8 rack plus one slice of dry, gray beef brisket for $20.50! Staff was nice:) but it doesn't matter if you're BBQ/food is not edible:/ won't waste my time or $ again. A relatively new place and they are still finding their way, but worth a try. I had their most unique dish, the pulled pork with pumpkin pancakes. The pancakes had a nice pumpkin flavor and were perfectly spiced. The presentation could be improved upon. Also had the collard greens. To me, they were just about right, they had some heat from crushed pepper and a tang from the addition of cider vinegar (something most people would like the option of adding their self). I did notice that the diners surrounding my table, all seemed to be pleased with their food, so I plan to go back soon to try some of their other stuff. read more

Should have read the reviews before we went as they have been spot on: 1.) Ribs were good, but for the kids plate, they weren't cut. Not cut and no knife to cut them with. So we tried a butter knife and ended up ripping them apart. 2.) We weren't given any sauces. I ordered brisket and pork, my son ordered ribs and we did not get any sauce put on our table. In fact, our entrees were dropped off and the we never saw our waiter again. 3.) The table next to us came on 15-20 min after us. We watched them being serviced by the same waiter who was very attentive to them. They received their meals (with sauces), he asked how everything was, and was bringing them boxes to pack up their food before even making eye contact with any one at our table two feet away after giving us our entrees 30 min before. My 4 year old daughter even said at one point "he never even came over to ask us how our food was!" 4.) The whole reason you go out to eat is good food, right? Here goes: -Cole slaw- run of the mill, but what's worse, probably a couple days old and shouldn't have been served. -Baked beans- blah, again, old and stale. -Pork belly tacos - inedible, tough, and disgusting. -Brisket- dry (again, no sauce either to even help make it palatable) -Child's cheeseburger given undercooked (we were never asked a temperature preference) and she asked for just cheese and ketchup and was given a burger with wilted lettuce, tomato, etc. I could go on, but feel like I'm being too wordy. Bottom line is; we spent almost a hundred dollars for a family of four which we expect for decent BBQ. My husband and daughter both ended up sick after eating here almost immediately. I will most definitely not recommend Smoking Toads to anyone nor will we be returning as it was that bad. Very sad as I live in the area and really want to see small businesses, especially restaurants do well. But when you can't get the fundamentals of good food and good service down, I don't hold out much hope. read more
