The Steel Plate - Brisket Quesadillas

I had to try the burnt ends and the three piece Pork meat plate. The pulled Pork, Brisket, ham and burnt ends were all good..it was very good actually. Highly recommended the Mac and cheese too.... I could not finish it..... I'm stuffed and happy. I highly recommend.

I can't tell you how excited my wife and I were to finally go here. We'd been seeing the pictures…read moreon social media of beautiful and interesting food. Based on those posts, we expected somewhat of an elevated experience. We couldn't have been more disappointed. We were there on a lunch buffet day. It was a health code nightmare. If no one got sick from that buffet food it was pure luck. Nothing was covered. The buffet table had no heat except lamps. The potatoes and green beans were cold. I didn't try the chicken. The temperatures were all off, generally stone cold. The Italian beef looked absolutely disgusting, red and dried out. The wedding soup was literally sitting on a table in a metal pan unheated. The iceberg salad sat on the same table also not cooled and the cups of ranch dressing sat unchilled and uncovered next to it. The pastas were both cold. The Alfredo was bland but the marinara was good. The pizza looked good and was hot, but I didn't like the texture or flavor. My wife thought it was average pizza. We had higher hopes for the BBQ platter since it was coming from the kitchen. It was simply ok. Despite waiting quite a while for the platter, it arrived lukewarm. Assuming BBQ is made ahead of time, heating it up correctly is about the only thing that needed to happen, yet it did not. The pulled pork and brisket were ok, nothing special. No dipping sauce was served for the brisket or turkey which was odd. The pulled pork was drizzled with sauce. I don't like turkey so I didn't eat it. We both agreed that the green beans side was by far the best food of the meal. The server came out of the kitchen with the meat platter, but stopped to scoop cold green beans from the buffet. I had to ask for them to be microwaved. After bringing the food temperature to staff attention, they only charged us half price for the buffet. The effort was appreciated, but they shouldn't have been serving anything from that buffet except the pizza. The place was clean, but they were clearly having staffing issues. Ambiance was a 3 out of 10. I had wanted to return another time to try a crab dish, but that is highly unlikely. The worst part was while waiting to pay my bill for a bad meal, I got to watch several beautiful pictures of amazing food pass by on the lobby tv screen that don't resemble anything I saw or ate here today. It literally looks like another restaurant's ads.

They are no longer at Lowe's at 200 Sara Way in Rostraver Township/Belle Vernon; they've moved down the road to Val's Beer Distributor & Car Wash. I had a BOGO coupon for a free sandwich (you can get a regular-sized sandwich,...about 6",...or a large). The young man who was behind the counter was busting his rear end working on orders. There was one guy ahead of me who appeared to have ordered two large sandwiches (let's call them what they are,...subs, hoagies, grinders, etc.). Then there was me, then a guy after me. As I order, I notice there are 6-7 large sandwiches already made and wrapped. In a few minutes, some utility company workers roll up,...they apparently pre-ordered lunch. Their total was $64 and some change. The utility company worker pays cash,...and proceeds to give the young man a $1.00 tip. Really? On a $64 order? Sometimes people just...plain...suck. Now, with my BOGO, my order came to between $7.50 and $8.00. I give the young man a $10 and tell him to keep the change. He thanked me for the tip, commenting it was more than what the $64-order guy gave him. He was still "upset" over the chintzy tip he received on the $64 order, so I gave him another $6.00 in an attempt to "restore his faith in humanity." [Ok, it was to make up for the utility company worker being a jagoff (trust me, they make decent money).] As for the sandwiches (we got a pastrami and hot sausage); they were tasty and were flavored well. Both had peppers, onions and cheese. A little on the salty side, but tasty nonetheless. The buns were nice and soft, and fresh as a morning daisy. My only complaint - just wish there was a little more meat in the pastrami sandwich (I'm sure they're bound by some corporate standard). The prices are comparable to a Place like Subway, but taste better. Hats off to the young man working there. Would we go back? No reason not to.

We started with a few beverages. The toasted marshmallow old fashioned was delish, I really enjoyed it. Our service started out great but unfortunately didn't end as great as it started. We started with the grape leaves and were very disappointed, they had good flavor but very mushy. The dinners were good. My friend had the ravioli with meatballs which I didn't get a picture of but it looked amazing. They were very generous with the sauce (which I love a saucy dish)! I had the Penne Fra Diavolo which was nice and spicy but in a good way, I added the shrimp and chicken and preferred the shrimp. Large portion/brought home leftovers. The rolls served with dinner were really good too. Now here is where the problem lied, my husband ordered the ribeye steak (medium rare). It looked amazing but was overcooked. He told the waitress and she had another one made but by time it came out the rest of us were done eating. This is always a frustrating dining experience. Thankfully the second steak was cooked perfectly but the sides were on the cold (not sure if they were the original sides or new sides). But it's never great to watch everyone else eat and then have to have the rest of the table sit and watch you eat. Overall good drinks/food but not a wow-ing first experience.

Big fan of the apple pie when they have it, or any of the pies for that matter! :). Ho Ho cake and some other things we have tried have been great as well!
