SOOOO glad we did; despite being ready to shut down for the day, these friendly folks were kind enough to serve us some of the best BBQ in the state! (And keep in mind, this was even with it being closing time, which says a lot!) I am somewhat a BBQ snob, have checked out many wonderful spots (Burnt Bean, City Market, Black's, Snow, Cooper's, Salt Lick, etc), and I try to judge at least the brisket category at the SA rodeo every year, so I ve had some good plates, but THIS spot is the truth! Got a 1/2 lb brisket and 1/2 lb ribs and deeply regret not getting more! The brisket was perfectly marbled, smoky, flavorful bark, thick smoke ring, just phenomenal. It needed no bbq sauce, but theirs is delicious nonetheless. Now those ribs!! Meaty, fall of the bone, tasty, tasty rub. Absolutely finger-licking! We will gladly make the 30 min drive from Helotes to TNT for our next bbq fix, we will be life-long, loyal customers! I was a little hesitant to write this review, because I don't want to have to bring a lawn chair for the line in the futue, but I still would, it's just that good!

The brisket lacked a strong smoke ring and had a gray appearance. I also tried the leg quarter, which came out dry, overcooked, and overly smoked. My friend ordered the sausage and it was dry as well. That said, the staff was genuinely kind and welcoming, and I appreciate that. I am willing to give them another try, but I also wanted to share this feedback in an honest and respectful way.

Met Nico, behind the counter, and apparently R&R BBQ is new and has only been open for 3-4 months. Her family has owned The Meat Market adjacent to the BBQ joint forever. She suggested the brisket as top choice and we added a few pork spareribs. $20 for 1lb of brisket, bread, bbq sauce, onions, and pickles , what a deal! The additional pork spareribs were only a few dollars more. The pork ribs were the best I've ever had so far. Literally fall off the bone and melt in your mouth deliciousness. The sliced brisket was tender, but the ribs shined. The pickles and onions were tangy and dilly, and the BBQ sauce had a vinegar base, but paired with well with proteins. She also let us know that their homemade jerky and parisa will be coming soon. Parisa? What is parisa you may ask....a cured meat mixed with cheese, spices, onions, and peppers and served on crackers. Well, I can't wait to try it : ) A Thanksgiving menu was posted up at the counter as well. We look forward to coming back and trying your sides and other yummy goodness! Fyi- to go only open 11am-6pm Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

There was a sign to seat yourselves. OK. We sat down and the bartender brought us menus. Us and a group of three were the only customers. Brought us waters. While looking at the menu, a server comes over and asks if we wanted appetizers or go straight to order. Straight to order, please. The husband ordered the brisket pot roast. It came with asparagus and what he thinks was puréed squash. I had the pecan chicken. Panko breaded with pecans and a bourbon sauce. Maple and bourbon were the flavor elements. Came with baked Mac and cheese and sliced slightly charred carrots. This was really good, as was the husbands plate. Warm Sourdough bread and butter is served with the meal. We split a Caesar salad. The salad was OK, the dressing was a little tart and served on the side. I'm taking a slice of chocolate cake to go. As I peek into the bag, it is a generous slice with strawberries and a dollop of whipped cream. Stay tuned. The restaurant is part of the Hillside Resort. Looks like a bunch of rooms. When we were about to leave a group of women came in and sat at the bar. I told the bartender we'd heard about them through Texas Eats. He said 'are they still showing that? That was about six chefs ago!' All righty then. I'd say it's worth a trip to try.

Reservations were made ahead of time for 4 and upon arrival we were were seated right next to the large open windows. Ordered the Berry Patch cocktail- nice and refreshing with a splash of mint leaves. Menu wasn't overwhelming and had a nice assortment of dishes. Starters ordered - pork belly bites and fried Brussels sprouts. Both highly recommend! Dishes ordered- salmon, pork chop, pot roast, and steak. Pork chop and steak were not dry, but juicy with lots of flavor. I loved pot roast growing up , so I had to order it here. Although tasty, texture was a little chewy and tough. Also would have enjoyed a little more helping of vegetable/potato purée underneath the roast. The salmon dish looked fabulous, but was slightly salty. The sweet bun that accompanied each dish were delicious! Service was good. I'd come back to try the pork chop next time around.

No. Did I know there was a Castroville-favorite restaurant there as well? Also no. We had to try it. Located inside the Alsatian Golf Club's clubhouse is their 19th-hole restaurant and bar: Julianna's Restaurant. Upon entry, you realize the place has been around for some time. It feels very classic San Antonio, with wooden walls accented by tan and white bricks. The restaurant's aged interior gives it a cozy, lodge-like charm. Though the restaurant was pretty busy on a Saturday night, we were seated instantly at a booth that gave me a perfect view of the Georgia-Alabama game on the bar's TV. After nine or eighteen holes, you never know what you're in the mood for. That's why Julianna's has plenty of options: sandwiches, pizzas, pasta, seafood, steaks, and other meat dishes. Our server came by very quickly and got us our drinks, which for me was a tall Saint Arnold Oktoberfest. I had a tough time deciding between two options: a bone-in pork chop or their creamy Cajun pasta. I opted for the bone-in pork chop with a Caesar salad, bacon green beans, and herb rice. My dad got the creamy Cajun pasta, and my mom got the Southwest chicken. It wasn't long until the Caesar salad came out, with huge croutons and a generous helping of dressing. It was excellent to the point my mom wished she had ordered it over her chicken tortilla soup, which she also enjoyed. If you ever order a meat entrée and they stick a steak knife in it, you're in for an ESPN Instant Classic. The pork chop was huge, topped with a house raspberry chipotle sauce. It was tender and cooked well. I'll admit, trying to find the bone versus the pork was a challenge, but I think that was a me issue. I would order it again. As for the sides, the bacon green beans were sneakily running for Sixth Man of the Year, and the herb rice paired with the pork chop quite well. I would go back. The meal was high quality and felt like a hidden gem even for longtime Castroville residents. What a treat. RIYL: Going to golf courses while being very bad at golf.

I feel as though the treats could've used more time into the flavor and texture than the aesthetics. I'd rather have a better tasting croissant than one with gold sprinkled on it, just not necessary. It also doesn't justify charging $46 for 6 little treats that are not fresh. Outrageous especially when your competitors charge more than half that price for a dozen treats and they taste better. It also wouldn't be so upsetting if prices were posted anywhere in the shop so I should know to taste one first to see if it was worth it. Overall I'd say drive down the street to the next bakery. Unless you like spending a lot on something average. Overall this place does have potential and I'd like to see it improve for a possible future visit. The best thing I tried was the cookie and that's the easiest thing to make.

The young lady running it was such a kind, sweet & patient woman, helpful & willing to answer all my questions about the pastries & goodies. They had baked goodies with fruit, custard, crumble topping, & even edible gold if you're feeling extra special the day you're getting your treats. (I'll be feeling extra next trip for sure. ) Today, apparently, my taste buds were craving all things flaky & crusty. So, I ended up with four different types of croissant style treats. Which is no shock, I do love croissants. The apple pecan just called my name, it smells like a freshly baked apple pie from your Mom's house. So for this Pi Day, this was my choice! Next I snapped up the almond croissant, cinnamon sugar croissant & lastly savory one to try out - their ham & cheese croissant. I have to admit - these put the ones I used to get back home in Wöllstein to shame. These are phenomenal. Their croissant dough is laminated with perfection. I plan on coming back until I try everything. I do have a favorite bakery in San Antonio, and I like one in Castroville, but it's an old fashioned one. I can tell you Baked is absolutely worth stopping by, take note of their hours Thursday - Sunday, worth remembering. When you're in the area get you some amazing baked goods at Baked. You will be glad you did. Worth it!
