It's about 6 PM on a Sunday night in Pawhuska, OK. Other than fast food. You have two options for…read moredinner, BBQ or Mexican. We chose Triggers BBQ, reviews were generally positive and it was a short stroll from The Frontier Hotel. The young lady working the counter was very friendly and our order was placed quickly. The fountain machine was not working which isn't a big deal. We each decided to try RC Cola. The only rub I have at this part of our experience is don't blame someone for the fountain machine not working. It's just a poor reflection. Just state it's not working. I ordered the brisket, coleslaw, and cheesy potatoes. My lovely wife ordered "the last of today's pork", brisket and cheesy potatoes. The food came out quickly. It was immediately noticeable that the brisket had sat in a warmer for way to long and was past its prime. A slathering of BBQ sauce on the brisket was not much improvement and was really uninspiring its self. A prior review noted the brisket tasted more like liquid smoke and I would agree. "The last of today's pork", was not as painful as the brisket yet not by much. Moving on to the cole slaw which I believe was a red wine vinaigrette. It was not to my liking however it might be to yours. I'll call this a push. Finally the cheesy potatoes. This side was good, moist and tasted as expected. It's unfortunate that this was the best item as I would fully expect the BBQ to be the star. The place is rustic, clean and small. With the draw in Pawhuska being The Pioneer Woman fame and you are a short block walk away. What you serve should be on point. This BBQ experience wasn't.

Amazing Stop - don't pass it up…read more SmOakies ~ WoW, some Great BBQ! My wife and I got the Fat Boy to split after driving all day coming in from the Ozarks on our summer trip out west. The chopped brisket was delicious with good texture and not too fatty, Pulled Pork, had texture but still tender and juicy with a nice skin on it! The Chicken tender brined and smokes, very tender and juicy. The Ribs had a delicious dry rub and were just at fall off the bone, not over tender at all. The ham was good but the least standout, as well as the sausage were all cooked to perfection, crispy skin and so tenderly cooked. The Slaw was a vinegar slaw that was a little heavy on the onion and celery seed, while the Baked Beans were sweet and tangy, some ketchup and mustard and I'm guessing but I taster Tamarind, delicious . The Potato Salad was absolutely lovely! ~ tasted like a mayo and mustard dressing with egg yokes? , dill pickle chunks and dill... reminded me of a deviled egg potato salad ~ WoW again. I eat BBQ all over the country pretty regularly and they was one of my Top Stops in a long while! ~ Great Job SmOkies! All the staff was very hospitable and the meal went off without a hitch, our waitress Megan was fabulous and stayed on top of everything. My wife and my favorite sauce was the Sa-Mokin' While we generally used very little as the meats spoke for themselves. 5 StarZ All The Way!

I had ribs, a burnt end sandwich, sliced brisket, green beans, and curly fries. All of it was great. The spare ribs were so good, meaty and not an overly dry one in the bunch. Their green beans are southern style, well done, and perfect, same for the curly fries. I really enjoyed the sauce, but the meats are good even without it. The service was excellent, too, both at the take-out counter and in the dining room. Looking forward to coming back again soon.

Taking the orders and getting them out for a group of 12 with an additional 6 joining late. Orders were correct and spot on to the right folks. Now let's get to the BBQ I suggest you start with their onion straw YUM! I had the 2 meat platter and it really was enough for 2-3. Yrs I finished it off . I had pulled pork with their hot sausage ( I'll go for the extra hot next time). It had a wonderful flavor and I really enjoyed the green onion and banana pepper they put on the plate a great taste addition for me. My sides were potato salad and back beans. Both were good however I'd like to seen more meat in the beans. Overall it was superb Great meal Warning for the group size they did add a gratuity but for my dinner I added more as it wasn't 10% or maybe my match was off

Inside, nicely decorated. The railroad motif matched the building. Halloween decorations were strung from the ceiling. Good timing for us. The café cleared out quickly. These ranchers had to get back to work. The kitchen staff is fast; we had food in just a few minutes. My usual. My wife had pancakes and an egg. Very good food, good coffee. The building is a genuine old train depot within a few inches of an active rail way line. While I was enjoying my bacon and eggs, all that I could think of was a derailment. A frickin' big devastating derailment; like you see on the national news. What if? Could we get out of the building quickly enough if we had to? And then it started. At first a low-pitched rumble. A little vibration felt in the floor. Ripples appear in my coffee cup, Then the ear-splitting train horn, a warning of your last chance to clear the track. That train had to be rolling at 60 miles an hour. The windows on the track side of the depot were covered. You couldn't see the train. Only the flash of the sun between each car as it screamed by. Each rail car had its own signature sound. Some smooth, and then an occasional skreich form a worn wheel bearing or locked brake. That's the sound that worries me. The clatter lasted a few minutes, faded, and vanished. Quiet again. Café sounds return. Tableware clanking together and plates rattling as the tables were being cleared. (Check the video and turn the sound all the way up.) That was pretty darn neat! A real railroad depot café, that features an actual train rumbling past while you enjoy the food. Disney World can't beat this. You have to try the Nowata Depot Café. Call ahead to get the schedule for the next arriving train.
