We enjoyed it. Definitely a low key environment, food was plentiful, & service was spot on.

Ok, I'll preface this with I KNOW my 'que…read more.. I'm a former partner in 3 Guys Smokin', Tulsa original "poster children" for barbecue competitions here. We started in 1987 and founded the Art of BBQ, the former fundraiser for Tulsa's Arts and Humanities Council, as well as the Bixby Blues 'n BBQ competition. Over the years we won MULTITUDES of awards, with our biggest claim that our baked beans took second in the world at the KC Royal. We manufactured and marketed three award-winning sauces and a dry rub. Case made?? Good, keep going please! I accidentally found Luke's a few years back and now I'll drive to Coweta from Tulsa for lunch as it's THAT GOOD!! It's honestly some of the best BBQ I've ever eaten. I went last week for lunch and got my usual, sliced brisket and pulled pork. Both were incredible, but the pork was AMAZING, something that usually doesn't impress me. I can get a butt nice and juicy, but NOTHING like Luke's!!! Not sure if they brine, inject, or what they do?? The meat is soaked with delicious juices and you can tell that it's inside, not just added if that makes sense. The brisket came off the point, which is not what I typically prefer, but it too was incredible. Go early, burnt ends seem to sell out first. Great portions, I always bring home leftovers. I'll TRY not to dive in to my plate and get some pics next time; can't promise tho...

Finally made it here. I'm from TX, so I judge every BBQ place by their brisket. Lukes is probably…read morethe best I've had in OK (places in Wellston and Pawhuska are pretty close, too). It had a good bark, smoke ring, was tender and had great flavor. The portion size was healthy, too. The okra was average, but the portion size was plentiful. The beans were very good, but sweeter than I prefer. My wife had the beef ribs which were the best outside Kansas City I've tasted. She did not care for the mac and cheese but liked the smoke flavor the the white cheese they used. Order at the counter and they bring the food to you. It is a tiny mom and pop place so be there by 10:30 to avoid a line that steadily grows until opening. Lukes reminds me of some of the best small, local BBQ joints you find all over Texas. I hope to get back here when I'm in the Tulsa area.

Taking the orders and getting them out for a group of 12 with an additional 6 joining late. Orders were correct and spot on to the right folks. Now let's get to the BBQ I suggest you start with their onion straw YUM! I had the 2 meat platter and it really was enough for 2-3. Yrs I finished it off . I had pulled pork with their hot sausage ( I'll go for the extra hot next time). It had a wonderful flavor and I really enjoyed the green onion and banana pepper they put on the plate a great taste addition for me. My sides were potato salad and back beans. Both were good however I'd like to seen more meat in the beans. Overall it was superb Great meal Warning for the group size they did add a gratuity but for my dinner I added more as it wasn't 10% or maybe my match was off

There was very little bark in the pulled pork (almost none), which lowered the score a bit too. I got two and a half ribs, not sure if it was supposed to be 3, but they tasted pretty good and were tender enough. Sausage was good, perhaps the best of the meats. The baked beans were decent, but not great. Favorite though was the coleslaw, which was vinegar based rather than mayo. It kind of stole the show food-wise, which isn't where a bbq joint wants to be. The service was the best part of my visit. I was well taken care of and the staff were awesome. I drove about an hour to try Dink's, and I'd get it once in a while if I lived closer, but won't make the drive again for it. I'd give 3.5 stars but only allowed a 3 or 4 star rating, so 3 it is.

The name of this BBQ joint has me confused. It is spelled "Above P@R." Check the signs. The…read morerestaurant's theme is a play on golf. No barn tin, farm implements, road signs, not even a picture of a cow inside the restaurant. A golf themed, side of the road, rural country BBQ restaurant sure seems odd to me. And instead of PAR, it is P@R? And then, Above P@R? Wouldn't you want to be below par. Isn't that how golf works? The goal is to come in under par? That means you are good, right? I'm sure that there were hours of thought that went into the name, and it all makes sense to someone. Just never mind, lets focus on the food. It is a clean, simple little cinder block building on the south side of highway 64, west of Tahlequah. Nothing fancy. The menu covers the BBQ essentials: ribs, brisket, sausage, pulled pork and an Oklahoma favorite bologna. The usual sides, mandatory fried okra, etc. etc. and a surprise, normally only appearing during your family holiday get togethers, Deviled Eggs! Yep, Deviled Eggs! My wife opted for the Brisket Sandwich with fried okra and potato salad. Brisket here is excellent. Tender, lean with a thick smokey bark. I had the jalapeno sausage, baked beans and the potato salad. Great tasting, smokey sausage. The potato salad here is exceptional. Not the typical mustard potato salad, like you pick up at Walmart in the deli section. I'd guess that Above P@R's potato salad is derived from a secret family recipe. It is tasty. The bake beans tasted like they spent some time in the smoker with the brisket. A nice touch of smoke. The helpings of the sides are generous. Check the pictures. We couldn't finish them all. A selection of BBQ sauce is on the table. The hot is perfect!!! Great friendly service from a feisty young lady working today. My receipt said it was Christina. Most BBQ joints are "par" for the course. "Above P@R BBQ" is very good! So, in golf terms, being better, it is below par. That made sense, right? EAT HERE! The food is fantastic. Be sure to try the golf ball challenge. You might win your meal!
