Haha, well the last time I ate here was when I was in Wicker Park for a Renegade Craft Fair, and my friends and I just did the same thing this week-end. Seems like we had about the same experience: decent food but "ehh" service. We were there at brunch time when the menu has a number of unusual offerings, but I just went for the pulled pork sandwich and sweet potato fries, which were pretty standard as BBQ go. My friends seemed to enjoy their meals of burnt ends and "The Daddy-O" sandwich (sliced brisket, smoked provolone, onion rings). Our waitress was a little scattered: she introduced herself to us by dumping a tray of full water glasses right at our feet (gladly we were sitting on the patio), then later assured us she could split the check but brought it to us intact. Sigh. It was nice to sit on the patio on a mild day; the restaurant inside is pretty small, and has probably the darkest ladies' room I have ever experienced. Overall, the next time I'm here for Renegade I'll probably try someplace else for lunch. read more

I frequent this establishment once a week, and I'm never disappointed. The food is amazing and so is the service. The bartenders are great and so is Joe(I believe that's what he said his name was). The prices are very reasonable also. I'm happy to have this place in my neighborhood! read more

Great place great atmosphere great service great food. Elise was the best waitress and I had the meat platter. So much food

Great food, great service! My kids and I had a really nice late dinner here. Evelyn was our server and was extremely kind, helpful and on point. There was a tiny issue with our food and the restaurant quickly recovered by going above and beyond what was necessary. The neighborhood is awesome, the outdoor seating abundant and the live music that night was great. Highly recommend!!! read more

Food and service is always on point. Dave Cleland has treated my family as his own every time we visit. Thanks Dave. The FREAK is one of my favorite sandwiches in the city!!!! read more

I ended up here by chance, in a sense. My friends and I originally set out to go to Kumas Corner and because the wait was 2 hours long, we were not amused. We planned on perhaps 45 minutes but not 2 hours. Screw that! We were getting hungry! The Smoke Daddy did not disappoint. There was a nice crowd but we got served as soon as we walked in . Literally, the staff was finishing up wiping down what would become our booth as we walked in. Very cool! The ambiance was very nice. Very casual comfortable and the air was potent with tasty, smoky and delicious aromas! I was getting pretty "tingly" as I was contemplating pulled pork as soon as I saw it on the menu! Mmmm... So, I almost went with a sandwich and two sides... then I saw the nachos platter and a choice of two meats! Mmm... Nirvana! I stuck with my original taste for pulled pork and chose brisket for my second meat. What a treat! The nachos were loaded with fixings that were tasty albeit almost borderline thrifty. Cheese, cilantro, onion, diced tomato, barbecue sauce and toasted chips echoed traditional nachos (well, minus the bbq sauce). The meat was soooo good! Juicy, succulent and just tasty all the way around. My two meat choice was perfect! It gave me more than a good idea as to what a "dedicated" sandwich with either meat would taste like! The portion was decent (although, for the price, I would have expected a little more - a quibble but not one to lower the star rating). My side was coleslaw and it was quite tasty! I have to say that I was looking forward to trying because I like the coleslaw at Chuck's Southern Comforts Cafe also but wondered how TSD's would measure up. I have to say I like them both. My friends had a rib sampler plate, I think is what it was. It looked very tasty! I tried the sweet potato fries that they ordered and I have to say that I was shocked that it was kind of good. Truth be told, I hate sweet potatoes but those fries were not bad at all. My friends really enjoyed them! The waitress started off as someone I liked but it changed towards the end for a couple of reasons. Her personality was great and she was very helpful when it came to answering questions and giving us great assessments of the food. The downside came when she didn't come back to ask about refills on drinks. I mean, really? This is a basic of good waitress and server procedure. I swear, every time she started to look in my direction, she turned away. Diet soda quota exceeded after one glass! Ugh. I know next time what to expect and I will be a stickler in that department! I look forward to going back and trying out some other dishes! I am glad Kuma's had such a ridiculous wait or else I would never have been introduced to this place! B read more

Holy cow is this place delicious. One of the best bbq brisket sandwiches I've ever had. Their bbq sauce is AMAZING. Def grab a bottle or two to go afterward. They have a lot of great cocktails, full bar, and awesome outdoor second floor seating that looks directly at Wriggly field. Highly recommend read more

Great place. Chicago classic. Some of the best BBQ around. Can hold its own with some of the best in the Country. Service is great. Maria is awesome. Great bourbon too. Great place to watch the game or listen to some good live music. Brunch is a 10/10. read more

I expected some mind blowing bbq with all of the wonderful reviews about this place. What we got was some super dry ribs and mushy corn bread. We tried a platter to get a good taste of multiple things on the menu. The brisket was ok and the chicken tasted like a traditional rotisserie chicken with bbq on it. The best thing we had was the coaslaw. Next time I'll walk a block down for some pizza. read more

Pulled pork nachos were great!!! And Brian, was wonderful, great service, funny and very attentive!!!!!!

To be honest I was disappointed. The drinks and sides were great. But the ribs were dry and the brisket was bland.

Went here during Do division thus last weekend. It was a mad house!!! But that's to be expected. Food was fantastic! I love those hush puppies! Had me some brisket some ribs; Chef's kiss!!! Despite being crazy, staff was friendly and cool as cucumbers!Definitely recommend! read more

One of the best BBQ Joints I have been to in a long time. We arrived and was seated right away. We ordered the "Big City Eats" with the baby back and St. Louis Style, Pulled pork, brisket, chicken with coleslaw and cornbread and smoked pit beans. It was $49 bucks and there was a ton of food. My favorite by far is the brisket and coleslaw. Don't get it twisted though, all of it was really good. The brisket was juicy and you can really taste the smoke. Our servers were really nice and the decor of the place is real BBQ smoke house-eque. There was a musician playing on a little platform the night we went. Pricing was decent for the amount of food we got. They have a fully stocked bar. Parking is street parking from what I can remember. Really easy to get to. Overall, it was a good meal for some city BBQ. read more

If you're looking for a group spot, sure. But if you want good food and drink choices, there are plenty of GOOD BBQ places in the city. This boring bbq spot has super sugary bbq sauce, small portions and lack luster sides. read more

I don't know much about BBQ, but I've always been told to judge a place by how much the meat falls off the bone. If that's any indication, then I gotta say this hits the spot. The meat on the ribs was like butter on the bone, and came off without any real work and was juicy to the last bite. The mac and cheese and cornbread were great, but the sweet fries could've been better had they been crispier and warmer. The key lime pie and iron skillet cookie were good but not really worth the price tag in my opinion. The service was fast and there was almost no wait at all in getting my food. Would definitely come back for the meats! read more

Love everything about this place (beer selection, outdoor dining, live music, overall vibe). Everything that is except the food. They somehow consistently find a way to ruin BBQ. The ribs and the burnt ends ALWAYS come out drier than a nuns...er, well, you get the point. read more

Some friends and I stopped by Smoke Daddy one late night after a concert in Wrigleyville and was pleasantly surprised! The ambiance was awesome. There was a live band covering many popular songs, and they were pretty good. We walked right in and were immediately seated at the bar. Our server was so very sweet and attentive. She helped make the night. The menu is not huge, but there was plenty to choose from. I opted for the cheeseburger (I know - who goes for bbq and orders a burger) and hubby ordered the half rib slab. Everything came out delicious! The ribs were great, tender and seasoned well. We also were surprised at how tasty the sweet potato fries and mac and cheese were! This place definitely exceeded my expectations and I wouldn't hesitate to stop in again if I'm ever in the area. read more

I've been here 3 times now and I keep wanting this place to be good but unfortunately it's disappointing every time. I got the half rack of ribs and my partner got the pork/burnt ends plate. Both were edible but on the dry side. The regular and sweet potato fries are very dry and stale. The mac and cheese isn't terrible but would be so much better if it was baked and not such a thick sauce. The cornbread was moist and buttery thankfully saving our meal. read more

This was it for $20?! What a rip-off, plus my order was delivered almost an hour late! I pass this place all the time and thought I should give it a try. I guess I can just keep driving by it, this was a waste. read more

Smoke Daddy - Two meat plate was amazing! - Barbeque Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Came here on Saturday evening for dinner and drinks, as it is a good place to start an evening out and about. Service- The service was good. Had a waitress, Alison I think, who was from Ireland, and just as friendly as can be. She was great with my group of friends and very attentive with her service and care for her patrons. Atmosphere- The atmosphere in this place was great. Fun, lively, and bustling with energy. Food- The food was great. Ordered a pulled chicken sandwich, with fries and slaw and it was great. Only downside is fries and meat were room temperature by the time I got them at my table. Otherwise everything about this place was great. It is huge and during the summer has a lively outdoor eating area which was a blast. Definately will go back. read more

it was great. The service was very nice and kept making sure we had everything that we needed.

What an experience! I ordered thanksgiving catering for pick up. Pros about pick up: 6ft distance applied for people picking up, only a few patrons were in at a time. Everyone chose their pick up time. The wait to get your order was short. They went through your order with you, and showed you every item. Everything was neatly packaged and packed. They also included reheating instructions. Cons: I walked in the wrong door. I wish they had a sign with an arrow that said thanksgiving pick ups thru the other door, but honestly that was my bad. Can't wait to have all the tasty food now! read more

The best place ever they are so fun and make amazing grilled cheese bingo is the best

Went to a cubs game and decided to stop by here, thinking it was going to be good, unfortunately we were wrong and were super disappointed! The ribs were very dry and the different bbq sauces they had sucked. Overall the biggest disappointment was the price! I mean $70 for some dry ribs, ok chicken wings. Fries were probably the best thing out of the meal. I definitely won't be back here again. read more

This update is long overdue and Smoke Daddy is - and has been for many years since 2008 review - back in my BBQ good graces. The inconsistency and frequent changes of the past, is just that, in the past. They keep things simple and that's just fine, high marks for the tasty pulled pork, chicken, and ribs. Highest marks are the burnt ends (get the burnt ends Nachos!) BBQ baked beans and last but not least....drum roll...the Pimento Cheese Hush Puppies. Oh my those things are divinely drool-worthy!! Their house made BBQ sauces are all great but the winner for me - and possibly my favorite in all Chicago BBQ sauces - is their "Hot". So good! Great specials t.o the week too so check their website. read more

Great spot by the ballpark. BBQ, beer and live music. What more could you need?! Chose the smoked meat selection, pork and Brisket , bbq beans, and corn bread. Will definitely make this a home location for visits to Wrigley Field read more
