Went here to get my car smog checked since it is listed by DMV as a Gold Shield approved shop. That means they double as smog test only station and licensed to do repairs. The prices are reasonable and it's close by my house. Paid $40 for diagnosis and smog check. My car passed! Would recommend this place to friends and family. Smog Tech does full auto repairs, not just smog checks. I've been coming here for 10 years since I moved to Westminster. I started coming for smog checks and then oil changes. Now they are my "go to" repair guys. They have done various jobs for me on several different vehicles, including radiator change, intake manifold, electrical repair, and scheduled maintenance. They always have lowest price. The best thing is they don't BS you, they give accurate estimates, they don't try to up sell you on a things you didn't ask for or don't need. They work extremely fast, often calling me to pick my car a few hours before expected. Except for one big job I had them do, they've always had my cars done in less than a day. The service here is old school no frills auto repair... if it's maintenance they ask if you want OEM or aftermarket and the rates are more than reasonable considering the effeciency by which they operate... if you show up during lunch expect a little wait.. other than than definitely recommend read more

They caused my car to miss fire badly and then charged me to fix it. I went in with a perfectly running car and came out with a car not drivable. All for a brake pad job. I would not go back again. Since I posted the above review on 10/9/2012, all of a sudden I started seeing "great" reviews of this place. I do not know who wrote them but I would have agreed with all these folks until what happened to me on 10/9/2012. I had taken all my three cars to here for a couple of years and felt I could trust them. I was on 1st name basis with them too, until they thought I knew little about cars and started charging me more and more for repairs I did not need. What happened to me on 10/9/2012 was pretty brazen on their part. read more

Came to this place to get an oil change. I must say prices were awesome and they were quick with the oil change! I also came back to get my air conditioner recharged for the summer. They did a wonderful job, i would definitely recommend coming here for car repairs. read more

I love Smog Tech! These are the most honest mechanics you will ever meet. I took my car to another place to get an oil change, only to find out that my coolant was leaking (or so they told me). I was skeptical so I took my car to Smog Tech and they checked it out for me. Not only did they confirm that my coolant was not leaking, they didn't even charge me to look at it. The other place *cough cough* Downey Car Care Center *cough *cough* wanted to charge me $600 for something that didn't even need repairing. The Smog Tech guys are efficient, fast, and most importantly, honest. I have taken my 5 vehicles here for smog for years and years and the Techs always did there job. My last visit the owners started letting shady customers who were turned away in test area and in engine bay of customers cars that are being tested in violation of Bureau of Automotive Repair rules and regulations. Owner entered Tampered in VIR and then retested as normal before passing car. Owner Starting mouthing with shady customer and tried to pick fight with me. Seems owner is losing his mind after so many years. Owners now have a bad attitude towards loyal customers and try to cause trouble with their loose behavior. Shop is dirty around waiting area and smells bad. Not a professional shop and bad business etiquette. I take my business elsewhere now and save $10 at the new place the staff is friendly and the waiting area is clean. This guy needs a major attitude adjustment he is starting to slip mentally. I have brought all our cars to this place for years I recommended it to my family and they brought there care here. Than something changed this year don't know why but problems with their work started. First was my brother In Law took his car there they did the repairs charged him than when the car didn't start they told him they couldn't fix it had too many problems than yelled at him to have it towed away. when he told me this I thought it must be a misunderstanding since the had always done a good job. than I took my car in to fix the AC they said it was fixed I paid drove it home it wasn't fixed I took it back they said it was another problem the switch. I paid again they said they fixed it but it would only go on with the switch on high and wouldn't get cool so I took it back again and again it still was not right. Winter came and I got a new car so I gave up on the AC the car ran fine so I figured the AC just couldn't be fixed and I didn't want to spend anymore money on it since I had paid for repairs several times. A few months later the car started running ruff so again I took it to our local trusted mechanic two days later I called to find out what the problem was since they never called to tell me what it needed. He said it needed a cap and rotor it would be $325 to fix it I said ok do it two days more still no call. Next day my husband went their in person (since one thing that has always been a problem with this place is understanding them over the phone since we don't speak Vietnamese so in person it's easier to understand) to find out if it was ready when he arrived our cars engine was taken apart parts were in the back seat. When he asked what was wrong why wasn't it done he just told him that it had no compression and to get it off his property as soon as possible we were shocked we tried again and again to find out what the problem was but all we got was no compression tow it away. we couldn't believe it we had used this place for so many years he knew us and our family he was so rude and we drove the car their now the engine is apart and parts are in the back seat. So now we have to get it towed find a new shop to fix it I am shocked that he would treat his loyal long time customers this way. I thought when he did it to my brother in law I thought it was just a misunderstanding but I guess that this is how they are treating customers now don't know what changed but we will never use them again. read more

This place does great work and very reasonable on pricing. They put in a rebuilt transmission in my dodge truck and I can't be happier; much cheaper than several other quotes too. I know how to fix things myself, but for such a fair price they offer; I don't bother doing repairs myself anymore. I just go to smog tech. Also, my employees drive for me and have had car problems; I send them to smog tech for repairs as well. My employee will be taking his bmw there tomorrow as a matter of fact. I have been using smog tech for years. I was sad when the old owner Jim sold out and moved. He told me the new owners were nice, honest people and he recommend them. Other than a little language problem, I have found them to be the most honest business on the planet. I have been there many times and have sent everybody I know there and all were happy and surprised on the quality and price of repairs. I've been going to this shop for many years to have my vehicles smog checked and was always happy with the service. However, over the last 3 years, for every vehicle we took in for smog testing, we were told that the timing was off. Our cars that didn't pass visual inspection were taken home corrected (nothing done to timing), and then taken back. They passed the smog check and somehow there was no more mention of a timing problem. I thought that was odd. Then last week, I took another vehicle there to be smog checked. Twenty minutes or so after the Tech pulled my car into the bay, the smog check was performed. When it was finished, he started over in my direction but took his time in that he was picking up trash, and talking to one of the mechanics. I watched him and thought "What's up with him?" because the behavior was unusual. When he got over to me, he said the timing was off on my car, that it would be $25 to fix, and then he would have to smog check it again to see if it passed. I said ok, and he had my car for another 15 minutes. He never repeated the smog check. When I looked at my inspection report, I noticed that the timing was correct and the time stamp was 20 minutes before he even approached me. In my opinion, I just got scammed for $25. I will never go back there again. I say to anyone who goes to this shop for a smog test and is told your timing is off, be suspicious and make him prove it. read more
