Brought my dad's 1985 BMW to get smog checked. Guy didn't do it because they "check engine light" was not illuminated when the key was turned. In other words, he didn't know if the check engine light was not on or just not working. I don't know much about this car so thought it was a bit odd but assumed he was right and had to get something fixed. Checked the manual - no mention of check engine light. Posted the question to some BMW forums - they didn't have check engine lights until something like the mid-90s. How can this guy run a smog check and not know information like this? Our car was due for a smog test and certification connected with the annual registration this year, and as you might know, the California DMV limits your smog test station choices to STAR test facilities. We located this STAR-certified smog check center on the internet and went there yesterday not knowing what to expect. The last smog test we had done was not pleasant in that before I could get the certificate high pressure was put on for us to have extensive services performed on our vehicle which just passed the smog test. At this STAR-certified facility run by one very polite and efficient individual, the process was quick, simple and customer-friendly. We were treated with respect and politeness throughout the approximately 20 minute process and, being a test-only shop, there was nothing for the operator to sell other than the testing service which we happily paid. I cannot recommend this smog test center highly enough. If it is a reasonable distance from you and you need a STAR-certified smog test done, this is the place to go. Full Stop! read more

I took my car to this shop yesterday late after work. I got there at 5:25 hoping they would still be open. Lucky for me, they extend their business hours to 6:00 in Spring/Summer so people work late around this time can still get their smog check. Wow! That's quite thoughtful of a business like this shop. Nick was super friendly, kindly asked me to wait for 5 minutes cuz he was almost done with a car. I've been to a few small auto shops but I have to say this shop is really clean and organized, at least a big and clean wait room especially in the summer you need to wait in the shade! Nick really took time to check my car. I heard about 7 or 10 minute smog check as advertised by other shops but they could miss something if they do it so quick. I mean it is nice for a girl who knows little about cars to have a technician check for any problems there might be. It turns out that 2 tires are low on air, as well as fluid and oil levels. He helped me fill up these guys without any extra charge! The whole work was finished in 15 minutes. I went to this facility to get smog check. It was smooth and easy. I paid with a credit card. I went back 10 months later with my other car. Again I paid with a credit card, but a different credit card then before. 4 months later when I received my credit card statements for the 2 cards that I had used at this business, I found that they had made a fraudulent charge of $50 to each one of the cards that I had previously used there. One fraudulent charge was 1 year after I had used it there, the other fraudulent charge was 3 months after my legitimate use - both frauds were run in the same month. My advise to everyone is, if you go to this place use cash only or you may very sorry!!!!! read more
