Because this was the first time my car would have required a smog inspection at a "STAR" Certified Station, I wanted to know what to expect as far as necessity of an appointment, cost, length of time required for the test, etc. "Harry", who answered the phone, was very respectful, kind, patient and thorough in answering all my questions. After being scammed by a less scrupulous Smog check place on Foothill Blvd (towards Tujunga), I was at my wit's end when my car would not pass the Smog checks. I had an issue where my O2 sensor would not correctly reset. I was about to give up and take in my out of warranty into the dealer (who charges $250 JUST for a diagnostic). But luckily I found Henry over here at Smog Busters, who knew exactly what my problem was (I even took my car before coming here to a mechanic who couldn't properly explain what needed to be done to fix my issue). Henry told me exactly what to search for on the internet and how to fix this problem. As soon as my O2 sensors reset after following Henry's advice, I immediately took my car here where it passed Smog Check with no problem! I'm not a person to give a bad review but had an absolutely terrible experience here. I went in for a smog check which seemed to go fine. But then Henry, I believe was his name and is the owner talked me into getting my breaks done. He was a good salesman and I should have known better to not get my breaks done by someone other than my regular mechanics. He told me that my back breaks were very bad and that my front breaks should be fine for another six months or so. He gave me a price and we agreed to do the work first thing the next morning. The next morning he replaced the. Reals, I gave him my card and then saw that he charged me for all four breaks. I reminded him that we agreed to only do the back because for one thing I couldn't afford to do all four. This went back and forth. He tried to blame me and then was accusing me of trying to get free work. It was insane. I did not back down and made him cancel the payment then I paid him only for the work that was agreed on. Henry played dumb acting like he just forgot that we had agreed to only do the back. Please, I may have been an idiot to trust this guy in the first place but wasn't about to let him get away with it. He was furious that I didn't fall for his SCAM. This was a least five weeks ago. My breaks sound terrible. I took the car back to him and we drove together so I could have him listen. He was extremely rude and told me the breaks need to get worn on. Weeks later they still sound terrible. Please stay away from this business. I cannot more regretful of my decision to trust him. It was a terrible experience all around. read more

Absolutely the worst . Promised he would re-text until it past. I was dealing with a battery problem, after I told him my issues . he promised to till it past. So I paid, he tested, it failed. That is when he told me the car needed to be driven a certain number of miles/hours because of the battery. He should have told be that first I would have waited put more miles on then came back and paid for the test. But then he did not honor his word to re-test. But the best part is his male ego, chauvinistic way of speaking to women. I understood the process, he wanted me to pay again. This owner is a liar! He made several lies in his last response. The first lie is 'I expanded to him more than 30- times'. He has tried to explain to me but only once. When I asked him some questions, he got upset and impatient. The second lie is 'but he starting yelling why you don't tell me before you start the test ( I told him I am not God to know what you did to your car and if I don't do the test I don't know your car it's going to pass or not).' I never told him that. What I told him was why he did not tell me the not-ready result before he asked to pay the full fees. In my view, I should not pay the certificate fee because the test failed and there was no certificate. I should not even pay the test fee because my car was not ready for a test. This owner asked me to the full fee $60 for test+certificate+ETF. He asked me to pay before showing me the not-ready result. I felt to be tricked and that was why I felt upset. The third lie is 'But still his yelling nonstop no you have tell me before you start the test my car it's passing or falling. I try over and over for exactly 2- hours but still he doesn't want to understand and trying make sin'. I went his place around 2pm and got back home around 3:15pm (see my phone's record on my whereabout). The whole event lasted around 1 hour. How could he could try over and over for 2-hours before he called the police? There are many lies but I do not have time to list them all. Most importantly, he said in a separate message 'Please go see doctor you are mentally sick need the help to be normal. And never come back to my shop otherwise this time police know you. You go to jail for playing with people Bussiness'. If you go to his place for service, do you want to be called 'crazy', 'mentally sick', 'go to jail'? His bad attitudes to customers like me is a big reason for me to complain here and gave him 1-star review. This owner has his own right not to refund me or not to serve me again (for a free test he promised). I have my right to expose his lying business and bad attitudes to his customers. My neighbors in La Crescenta and La Canada Flintridge deserve to be treated respectively, like a human instead of like a criminal. If not, this business do not belong to our neighborhood. read more

Stopped by for a smog tests for my car and my wife's a couple days later. Henry was very friendly and went out of his way to make sure everything was explained and discussed after the test was complete. The cost for the service was also extremely reasonable. He also took a glance at the brakes of the cars and mentioned they offer a lifetime brake service. Henry noted the brakes on the car weren't quite there yet for needing brakes, but I will definitely consider coming back once the pads are nearing the end of their life. Wouldn't have found this place if I didn't call around first. But it was worth it! By far the cheapest and quickest Smog Test around this area. I was in and out within 15 mins and Henry still took the time to explain to me the test and how to check the certification for DMV. Henry was super nice in pointing out some other possible issues with my car (i.e. rats chewing on insulation). I will definetely go back with my other car and possible other services that Henry offers, brakes, etc. He's behind the car wash on Briggs and Foothill, so easy to miss from the road. I came here on a Saturday and was worried I may have to wait a long time, but they were really efficient and I was in and out in 10 minutes. The pricing is fair and the itemized pricing is on display so there are no surprises (unless you're a crazy person, looking at the previous reviews...) there is a cash discount so you can save a couple of bucks if you bring cash. I like the convenience of cards and know that card processing fees are reallllly high right now so don't mind paying a tiny bit more. Well, my tag is expiring soon and I had to get a Smog Check in order to get my Registration. Good thing, there was a Smog Test Only Location near my home. Originally, I found this location on the internet. I found this website: http://www.lasmogbusters.com. I didn't know that this Valero Station had a Smog Check. The coupon on the website is no longer valid for $29.75. However, Henry, the Owner, still gave a good deal of $39.95. Just $10 less. However, I did fail the Gas Cap, which explained why I have been losing at least 1-2mpg every fillup. Henry sold me a Gas Cap for $10. So, I ended up paying the original price, but not really wasting time to go to another store and driving back and paying another fee to re-test. Henry is a great person and very trustworthy. If you are going here for the first time, tell him Ryan sent you, and get the $10 discount. While you wait, look at his credentials and a special whiteboard. The whiteboard is very special and you will understand why he is Trustworthy. I would've given him 5 stars, but I wanted to pay the $29.75, but got the $39.75..lol. So, I ended up paying $60. The certificate is $8.25. The Electronic Tranfser Fee is $2.00 and I paid the Gas Cap for $10. If you have an old car and probably have a Gas Cap that is 5 years old, replace it at Kragen or AutoZone and save a few bucks. I recently went in to get a smog check for my registration and Henry was very kind. The moment I showed up Henry was dealing with a very upset customer who was yelling at him and although he was dealing with that he was patient and kind with me. I felt really bad that he was dealing with this guy but Henry handled it really well, I could tell he was frustrated and kept repeating himself but he didn't snap at him the way anyone else would so I give him props for that.
