Terrible customer service. I left two phone messages with her staff for Gloria to call me back in November 2025, to guide me as to what I needed to do to pick up my daughters wrecked car. Another driver crashed into her. My daughters car needed picking up, she is in Santa Barbara at school and I am in Orange County, California. Gloria never called me back to help guide me through the process of how I need to pick up the car, even though her staff said she would call me back. I had never had to deal with such a circumstance, uninsured, drunk driver hitting my daughter's car. Today I was hit with the $6,000 invoice for storage and towing , formwhich I called her and actually this time she did talk to me, I asked why she never called me back and now this $6,000 bill. She said, it isn't her problem, it is my problem, you should have known what you needed to do and then hung up on me. When Issac arrived, rather than simply towing us to the repair shop, he asked about the issue we were experiencing with our vehicle. Issac was able to determine that the small 12 volt battery that controls all electronics in our EV had died. One thing about their service is that they consistently stayed in contact with me! From the operator working for Smittys to the driver Daniel that came to do the towing. Everyone was kind and really genuine people. I just moved to SB but if anyone I know is in trouble and has AAA, I'd surely recommend this company. There was no cost for me because I decided to have them tow to a local mechanic only 1.2 miles away. The inside of the tow truck was also surprisingly comfortable and extremely clean, with water bottles to offer if needed. This, on top of them taking my car efficiently to Kamila's garage (I was really worried because I have boxes inside with delicates) saved me a ton of stress and time. Smitty's towing was called via AAA to tow my car about 50 miles, from the shop where our car originally broke down and our actual home! The driver communicated with me frequently, asked about my preferences, and even bothered to drive the car into my driveway after he got it off the tow truck. I would not recommend this towing company. My family and I were stuck given road conditions were so soft with the rains. Communication - 2/5 stars. They did end up picking up the phone but after saying the estimated time was 1 minute it ended up taking about 10 min. Once the woman picked up the phone her demeanor was curt and judgmental (how dare you get stuck gone) rather than coming from care and concern of how to help my family and young kids get home. Service - They were not able to help tow us until tomorrow am even though we got stuck around 5:00pm. It would have been fine if they told us they couldn't help, or didn't have a tow truck available, but used care and compassion in their communication and time. No one needs their nose rubbed in the mud when their car is already stuck in it! Thankfully, without the assistance of Smitty's , we were able to tow ourselves out with about 8 people helping, cars and wood blocks and some tow cables we found. These people are theifs who will steal your property, and then force you to pay an outrageous price to get your car back. They are running a legalized extortion scheme that directly benefits the Santa Barbara PD, so the police actually have incentives to promote their predatory behavior. You will get one of two treatments for the same "service" from these people 1) if the tow is requested by you, 2) if your car is towed while you are not present. 1. $150 for a tow + $7 per additional mile 2. $375 for a tow + $110 once it arrives at the lot + $100 per storage day If you try to pick it up "after hours" they will add $187.50 additional charge. If I were not a student without the time to persue a class action lawsuit, I would have. Based on the number of negative reviews for these people, a class action suit could actually get them to pay back for all the damages they caused. The phone number for legal aid is (805)-963-6754. If you have had the misfortune to be towed by these people and do not beleive that this kind of disgusting predatory behavior should be tolerated, I would start there and try to contact all the 1 star reviewers on here to build a solid number of plaintiff's. read more

On Thanksgivings, my family got a flat tire from a nail on the freeway. We called AAA for help and they sent us Smitty's Towing. Kyle Hudson arrived in about 20 minutes, which helped since we felt uncomfortable with the amount of cars speeding by us. We were situated on a narrow right lane of the freeway. He switched out our wrecked tire with a temporary one we had in the trunk of our car. After that, he guided us to Goleta, where we left our car in front of American Tire to have our tire replaced. The replacement couldn't drive us to our destination nor back home due to long distance. Since it wasn't open due to a holiday, he offered to get it fixed on Friday as we took a rental car to continue on our trip. He went out of his way to drive over and deliver our car key to American Tire to have that done. We drove back on Saturday to find our car with a new tire. Highly recommend Smitty's for their towing/tire replacement. With this case, Kyle provided fantastic customer service. read more

Smitty's has come to my rescue on more than one occasion. I've found them to be nothing short of professional and courteous. I wasn't always the careful driver I am today. There have been instances where I've walked out to my vehicle and realized I'd left an interior light on, or the one instance where I legitimately ran out of gas in the middle of the road - major yikes. For each of these anomalies, AAA roadside assistance had dispatched Smitty's to help me out. The technicians always arrived on time, they quickly and efficiently remedied the issue, and I was never asked to pay out of pocket as I was a AAA member. The drivers were also in good spirits and never made me feel that my call-out was too minor. Blew out two tires a few weeks ago. I was scared and mad at myself for making a reckless decision. When Kyle and Micah first showed up, they didn't think they'd be able to tow my car for a couple of days since all their flatbeds were being repaired. Kyle made an extra call, an by coincidence one had just become ready to go. He got my car to the tire shop, called me to tell me what my pricing options were (before the tire shop even reached out), and I got the car back the same day. What was a very scary moment for me turned into the best possible scenario because of Kyle. Just move into an apartment complex and accidently parked in the wrong numbered spot. Totally understand and accept responsibility for the mistake, but this company's fee of $632 is outrageous and unreasonable. We asked to pick up the car as soon as we realized it was towed and was told it would cost more to open the shop after hours. We said we would be there first thing in the morning. When explaining the fee, this company explained that they charge $100/day which was calculated as such: 10:45 pm tow ($325 plus $100), next day ($100 and told it would cost more to pick up the car after hours), pick up day ($100 despite being there as soon as shop opened). Of course nobody likes being towed and it's never pleasant, but these people were awful. Despite being in the same zip code, they charged me long distance rates. They did not care about COVID-19 protocols whatsoever and were quite unsanitary. Even worse, they kept harassing me and saying "we shouldn't release your car to you; you seem drunk," but I was completely sober. This persisted for several minutes. I pressed them to use their breathalyzer and to knock it off, then they backed off and said I seemed fine. Plus, they need to quit advertising online that they are open 24 hours. They are not and they massively overcharge for any business not conducted within designated time slots. The time slots are only posted at the physical building, not online at all. Maybe I just had awful luck, but my experience was beyond horrible. They were rude, inconsiderate, just plain mean, and seemed to get satisfaction from unjustly pushing me around. read more

I have been forced to deal with this company several times over the years because they are contracted by Triple A. They are by far the most unpleasant and unprofessional tow truck company I have ever had the displeasure of encountering. The drivers have a horrible attitude, and i have actually been yelled at by a few of their drivers. They have acted like it was my fault that I ran out of gas or broke down.
