Been going here recently because the bagels were pretty good. However the wait times are a bit lengthy even when there is no one there. How ever what really brought this place down was I placed my order and while waiting I watched the kid ring someone up for a Gatorade and then proceed to make my bagel and lox with the same glove he was handling money with. I got his attention and asked him to change gloves cause of what he was doing and he looked at me like I was issue. Pretty sure he didn't even remake the bagel and I still got gloved made bagel and lox. Buyers beware this seems to be a trend I find in my area. I can't stand it at all. It's unsettling. read more

There is ALWAYS a line out of the door every time I am here, that is a testament to the quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff. I feel like it's a bit over priced for the nothing you get on a sandwich. I don't know if bread prices went up but $2.50 for a toasted bagel with cream cheese is a bit much especially when I get a bagel here toasted with nothing for $1 as of last week. The sandwiches are reasonably priced but the last two I got from here was mostly bread. I don't know if they are always that way but if it's $8-$10 a piece you would think there would be a decent amount of filling. The breakfast sandwiches are good with plenty of toppings. I've moved from LI to an area where bagel shops are few and far between and you can't get the variety or quality that you can find here. I was happy to find lots of options at this cafe. I had a sesame flagel w/ walnut raisin creme cheese, nothing like anything I have tried before. Was quite larger than a regular bagel and I had to save half in the fridge for later. My friends order was larger and the staff member put in the wrong total which my friend had to point out to him and then he needed a manager to fix it. All-in-all a good place to get breakfast or lunch though. read more

I'm not sure if I caught them in a bad day or not. Let me set this up. The day after thanksgiving at 10:00 am. There's roughly 7-8 customers on line ahead of me. I only see 2 people behind the counter. Then another emerges so there's 3 people working with about 8 customers. Chances of being served soon is very high. NOT!!!! We waited about 15 minutes before placing an order (not exaggerating at all) then another 15 minute for them it make it. Here's the order: BEC on a bagel, buttered bagel and 2 bagels with CC. Not a big order at all. Not really sure what took 15 minutes to make. Service was less than desirable but again, it was the day after thanksgiving so I'm not sure if it's a huge bagel day so I'll cut them some slack. On the positive side, the owner seemed to know everyone walking in and this place seems to have a ton of repeat customers. The bagels are pretty good and the egg Sammy was delicious. I'll have to try then again on a normal day and report back. read more

I tried this place twice. Once for 2 egg sandwiches that they messed up. And another for 2 lunch sandwiches that they royally screwed up. Waited over an hour between the 2. I watched the young kid write my order down and still get it wrong. As a deli on Long Island you can not be this consistently bad. Over $20 and an hour of my life I can not get back. Nice service. The lady behind the counter treats you right. And I'm sure that the bagels are pretty good. But when I decided to get a ham egg and cheese on a roll, it was a HUGE disappointment. The roll was tiny, dry and flavorless. Add I had to double check to see if I got the 2 eggs that I asked for, as it seemed there was only one. But no, there were 2. Used to love this place. Not sure what happened, but ordered an egg sandwich this morning and it was basically bread. Pretty sure they used half a slice of bacon and definitely only one egg for this sandwich. Maybe if we weren't in New York I'd expect this but dang. The bagels are delicious, freshly-made and authentic; with a variety of unique cream cheese flavors to choose from. There's sandwiches and food as well. The ONLY downside to this place is that staffing levels do not sometimes match the amount of customers in line during peak hours. Prepare to wait a little. read more

What can I say other than I love this bagel place and not just the bagels either. I love all of their sandwiches, soups salads etc. the owner Michael radiates warmth & kindness as is his staff (Seth, Freddie and oop I can't remember the ladies name). They know me as the lox lady lol. I usually order a lb as my hubby loves lox with tomatoes and red onion on a get this cinnamon raisin bagel. (Not my choice but whatever). They have a excellent chicken salad among a lot of other choices. I was Supercuts and was hungry and the girl swore by the bagel place across the street as I heard from others as well. So I decided to give them a shot. First, they had no menus! The menu was high up and I couldn't read it at all (my fault for not having my eyeglasses). I ordered a lox & cream cheese on a garlic bagel. I was truly disappointed. The lox was smelly and a tad slimy. I could have gone back but decided why bother as I won't ever order from them again. Always good food and worth the wait. Just because there's a line doesnt mean they're not working or too slow. You wouldn't want them to rush through your order to get to the next customer quicker, would you? They treat each and every customer with as much respect as the next. Just an average bagel store. Not bad but nothing special about it at all. The reason for the negative review is the staff, in particular a woman that works there and the reason I have never gone back. On a recent, and my last, visit I had an horrible experience. While at the counter waiting to give my order, the woman had her back to me making someone else's order. Apparently she tried to ask me want I wanted but I didn't realize it due to a hearing defect. When she turned around and faced me she shouted something to the effect of "You need to clean your ears out? What do you want?" Placed an order for a dozen bagels plus some other things on Chrismas Eve for Chrismas morning. When I arrived to pick it up, they told me they were too busy to get my order together and were out of 1/3 of what I had ordered. "To make up" for it they gave me a couple of free bagels. According to the sign in their store you get a couple of free bagels anyway for ordering a dozen. Not only was I not informed about this when I ordered, the bagels they gave me were buttered. I can only assume those bagels were left overs from someone else. Never even got an apology. Just "we are too busy" I'll be sure to keep that in mind next time I go to spend my hard earned money and don't want to disappoint my guests. read more

I am flabbergasted by these poor reviews. Smithtown Bagels has always been - and will likely always be - the most orgasmic bagel institution on Long Island. When I am out of town, I dream about their egg everything bagel with butter. It is the softest bagel I have ever consumed. Prefer a breakfast sandwich? I love this place. Guys behind the counter are great. Had salads catered from here for an event and everyone said they were the best salads ever. It was for Halloween and they didn't bat an eye when I asked to have a rubber mouse put at the bottom of the jack o lanturn containers. Bagels are great here. Not fancy but wonderful.
