Different Cheesesteak #1183. Not afraid to admit I was scared walking in here by myself. The guy playing the Pennsylvania Skills Game greeted me with a big; 'Hi, What did you win?' I knew I was home. Great local spot. Every walk of Columbia life was having lunch. Everyone, including the waitress, was friendly. Cheesesteak was typical for the area. Soft roll and house made sauce. Final lasting memory, I got a Troegs on draft. On my receipt it came up 'Fancy Beer.' Will Columbia remember me as the fancy boy drinking a fancy beer?!?!?!? Lifetime channel movies start with a fancy boy cheesesteak reviewer that walks into a small town bar and is never heard from again

Disappointed, ordered a 4ft party sub for a Superbowl party. Sub wasn't much of a party.. More bread then meat. Very thin slices of meat. Called to express disappointment & got no satisfaction.

$8 come one you gotta be kidding me whatta deal

If you're in Columbia you have to stop by Smiths and get a cheese steak. They're famous around these parts! They don't know I'm a good credit but I've never been disappointed! Some places I like to lay low. The prices are great and the food portions are always above average! No where in Columbia can compete in my opinion. I've sadly not tried their chicken cheese steak yet :( it's next on my list. You should know if you seen any of my reviews I live love chicken lol. I've also never stopped inside or spent the night. I bet it would be a cozy stay. I always do their speedy take out. Lots of people like to eat out on there deck and/or just stop in for a nice cold one. Highly recommend definitely worth the money!

I have only every gotten takeout. Service is quick; prices are fair. Selection of bottled/canned soda and beer to go. I only ever order the cheesesteak with onions. I've always been happy with it. Medium is plenty of food. Plenty of parking out back.

    Unbelievable prices!!

Best turkey subs on the planet. Cheesesteaks not so much, more like an onion sandwich.

Probably one of the worst places I have ate at. Food came with a bug in it and the management refused to make us a new philly cheese steak.

I placed my order online and went with a Hefty size Classic Cheesesteak, and a Husky size Philly Special Hoagie. Total after tax/tip was $34.00. How were they? Cheesesteak- Fantastic! Nice seeded bread, tons of meat and cooper sharp cheese. Onions were cut a little big and laid on top, so they started to fall all over the place (eat this outside your car, trust me!) while I was eating. Flavors were great, though! Damn fine cheesesteak and I would definitely return to get another. Hoagie- This thing was packed with goodies! They also use the "meat blanket" technique that I have only seen at LaSpadas down in Florida, previously. All the ingredients were well put together, HUGE, good bread, but there was a lack of tang in the olive oil/vinegar dressing. It was basically absent. That's why the 4 stars. Maybe you need to order extra or more vinegar? Something was definitely needed though. It was pretty plain tasting. Don't get me wrong, it was still a good sandwich, but it could have been a GREAT sandwich with some extra flavor of the oil/vinegar. This would definitely be my sandwich spot if I lived in York!

I…read morevisited The Spot twice this week and enjoyed a club sandwich both days -- they are so huge and packed with delicious cheese and meat and has thick, lean, crunchy bacon on it. I joked with Jenni that it's a 20-minute sandwich because that's how long it takes to eat. I brought a coworker yesterday and she had a reuben sandwich which she said was outstanding. She tried the chicken and rice soup and said it was wonderful so I tried that today and agree that it was totally worth the $3.99 -- hot, rich, full of chicken and packed with flavor. Today I took another coworker and she loved her sandwich and raved about her tomato bisque soup. Something happened at The Spot that I've never seen before and we were impressed. There were two other customers talking to each other while we were eating. One of them was a (very) loud talker and the owner quietly and discretely went up to her and said he could hear her across the dining room and reminded her other people (us) were eating and would she please lower her voice. He did this with sensitivity and respect but it worked and we were able to enjoy the remainder of our meals in peace. When the loud talker left, we thanked the owner and told him we had never seen anyone do such a thing before. That was just awesome! The sandwiches and soup are so amazing and it's wonderful to support a small, local business. I suspect I'll be back in the area in the next few months and you can believe I will be back and bringing another coworker along.

A quick search later and I realized it was only 20 minutes from home. I immediately grabbed a friend and requested a dinner date for the item that caught my eye: the Bratwurst mit Kraut -- bratwurst cooked with apples and sauerkraut, served on a pretzel bun and topped with even more kraut, with a side of German potato salad ($12). But I'll admit... I was also eyeing their Obatzda Burger with Oktoberfest beer cheese. Feeling bold, I asked our waitress if I could order their regular Pretzel Braid appetizer ($9) but swap the usual cheez-wiz and spicy mustard for that dreamy Oktoberfest beer cheese instead. She paused, smiled, wrote it down, and said, "that sounds really good!" Bless the chef for making my pretzel + beer cheese fantasy come true. The pretzel braid was warm, soft, and perfectly salty, and that beer cheese was the real MVP -- smooth, melty, not too hot, and with a proper beer-cheese finish. When the bratwurst plate arrived, it was a showstopper. Juicy brat, tangy kraut piled high, and tucked inside a pretzel roll that was soft but sturdy enough to hold it all together. No mustard needed! The German potato salad surprised me, though -- I'm used to the warm version, so finding it chilled caught me off guard. But honestly? It worked. Perfectly seasoned, just wet enough to be salad without drifting into soupy territory. I demolished both. Dessert was impossible to skip after hearing our waitress describe it to another table. We shared both the Apple Caramel Crumb Cake and the Lemon Blueberry Mascarpone Cake. The crumb cake was served warm with ice cream, loaded with thick, crunchy topping that didn't rely on chopped nuts (bonus points!). The mascarpone cake was light and buttery with the perfect balance of lemon and blueberry -- like saying goodbye to summer and hello to fall all in one dessert sitting. Southside Deli's Oktoberfest menu blew me away, and if their everyday offerings are anywhere close, I've been seriously missing out. Add in free parking, a convenient location, and plenty of seating, and it's an easy go-to spot for lunch or dinner. Southside is officially on my food rotation radar now!
