She was so kind and polite and professional. When I got up to the window she had a big smile and we had a great conversation. The extra care she gave our order and packaging was excellent. I really didn't expect our food to be fresh at that late hour but to my surprise everything was HOT and fresh. We had lunch at this White Swan to start an early kickoff to the weekend. The restaurant was mostly full when we arrived, which we hoped meant the food was much better than the dingy interior. I tried a BBQ sandwich with slaw and an order of yams. My sandwich had a generous serving of eastern NC BBQ with slaw. The BBQ was OK, but nothing special and I would not be surprised to learn the slaw was purchased somewhere else. My yams, however, were served warm and very good. I also received a few hushpuppies which would have been excellent if they had been served hot, but they were cold. My dining companion tried the "steak sandwich" and fried squash. The "steak" turned out to be a fried chuckwagon patty which would have been better if served right out of the fryer but was OK. She thought the squash, clearly fresh and just cooked, was very good. You stand in line to place your order and as expected these days, they suggest all sorts of generous tips for themselves. All the employees were friendly and clearly aiming to please. If you eat in they bring your food to the table and if you get it to go, they call your order out when its ready. You're expected to clean your table when you leave and they are kind enough to leave a bucket with rags soaked in sanitizer to clean make sure the table is ready for the next customer, even though they already hit you up for a tip when you ordered. This is a low 3-star BBQ restaurant. It's not bad, but there's better to be had not too far away.

S., including six in the Triangle area. All the meats are tender enough, but just don't have that distinctive pit-cooked flavor that I crave. However, when one of their excellent sauces is added, they're really quite tasty. Sauce options include Original, Sweet City, Brush Fire (Actually not all that hot), Swine Wine (like Eastern NC Vinegar) and Low Calorie (why bother?). I found the portions to be ample, the selections varied and the food generally very good. On my first visit I tried the basic Pulled Pork , Baked Beans and Cole Slaw I added a little of each Sauce to some of the BBQ and enjoyed them all. The Beans were tangy and tasty. The Cole Slaw was outstanding - slightly sweet, creamy and delicious. I also sampled the Pulled Chicken with Fried Okra and Sweet Corn Pudding. The chicken was pretty bland, but very good with some of the sauces. The real stars were the sides. The Fried Okra was as good as any I have ever had (with or without the Chipotle Ranch Dressing). It was lightly breaded; slightly crispy but tender. The Corn Pudding was loaded with sugary corn kernels, butter and sour cream. My two favorites are the St Louis Ribs and the Beef Brisket. The Ribs were slightly crusty but tender. I find that three Ribs and a couple of sides are plenty for a filling meal. You can get the Brisket either lean cut or full cut (I prefer the full cut). City's Hush Puppies are crispy, golden and packed with Southern flavor - perfect. Be sure to ask for the 10% military veteran or senior discount (age 62).
