Tasty Smith Caesars.

Nice spot for a Bloody Mary! Actually called a Smith Caesar but filled the craving. Plus we needed some breakfast and sharing the Caprese Benedict was perfect. Staff was nice, bartender attentive. Comfortable bar stools and restaurant looks very nice.

Great food and drinks. Lovely patio. Our server Laura was amazing and gave us great recommendations.

So it's almost shameful. I have eaten here 4 times in the last 24 hours. I've had 2 late night bites, brunch and dinner. The food is excellent. I enjoyed a meat board and cheese board. By myself and I don't know if I should be proud or disgusted with myself. I'm going with proud. Both were presented beautifully with nice options and were well balanced. My brunch dish of Eggs Royale was perfectly cooked, packed with flavour and cooked exactly as asked with medium poached eggs. My dinner was oysters and gnocchi. The oysters came with everything they needed and tasted so fresh. The gnocchi was one of those dishes that you will dream of-pillowy gnocchi with a nice amount of spinach and tomatoes. Excellent! The service each time was extremely gracious and pleasant. I had nice conversations with each server, even at dinner at the bar top. The restaurant is both cozy and trendy. There are warm booths, comfortable tables and even the bar top felt intimate and nice. The live music on Saturday night was outstanding. Such a great vibe and I felt like I was at a personal concert. Clearly I love this place and if you visit, I think you will too.

Cherry Sour Mocktail

On a recent weekend getaway to Winnipeg, my husband and I decided to make a reservation at Smith for dinner and I am so glad we did. I am still dreaming about the meal we had - every bite of it was fantastic. We shared the beet salad and sourdough to start. Beet salad was a perfect combination of beets, greens, cheese, citrus and sunflower seeds. Was a large serving and more than enough for the two of us to share. I had one of the specials of the night - salmon with polenta which had a creamy sauce, then one more like a pesto which blended into a perfect flavour combination. My husbands gnocchi was also very good. We ate fairly early so it wasn't too busy yet which was nice. I imagine it gets loud when it is busy. They got bonus points for having great mocktails too. We will definitely return next time we're in Winnipeg. Fairly easy walk from The Fairmont where we were staying.

Delicious food and a nice subtle atmosphere. The chicken was really good and juicy. The reason for the four star and not five is because everything is A la carte and a little pricey. Also, the Mac and cheese wasn't cheesy at all, maybe a little dry to be honest. But overall not a bad place for a casual sit down dinner date

When I called to make a reservation (only taken between 5-7pm) the staff member told me they only have 18 seats so it is very "cozy". There were 3 of us and we ended up sitting at the bar, which was actually just fine for us. Since the Roost is renounced for their house cocktails, it was actually quite entertaining to be able to watch the bartender make the cocktails, see the different glasses and cups they had for each drink and just get to know the staff more. With that said, the Roost's cocktail menu is so fun and there were so many choices, including mocktails, that it was actually difficult to choose drinks. I think in total we tried maybe 5 of them and they were all phenomenal. For food, we ordered a couple of different things. We had the vegan cheese platter - oh yeah, this place has a large vegan/vegetarian friendly menu - some baos or steamed buns and the scallop risotto. I want to say my favorite were actually the steamed buns - nice and fluffy and warm and full of flavor. This place was such a nice little treat during our time in Winnipeg and I would imagine that, if I lived in Winnipeg, it would quickly become one of my go to places for a date or a night out with a friend. Worth the visit if you're in Winnipeg.

The service was slow and sporadic. The vegan burger was tasty but so mushy most of the "burger" ended up on the plate and not part of the sandwich. It's a nice place to go for a drink (good ambiance) but I wouldn't even recommend the tapas from the VERY limited menu. So just to qualify, it's a good place. It's just me that won't be going again.

Tip: The scotch eggs are delicious…read more The Toad in the Hole is a pub and restaurant in Osborne Village. It was there for years before I had moved to Winnipeg and this neighbourhood. It was open late on most evenings along with Papa George's that was up the street. The latter is no longer there. This eatery has gone through a bunch of changes over the years. When I was new to the neighbourhood, this eatery had two floors. The top floor had a traditional bar and restaurant. The lower floor also had a bar, but the artsy, younger folks spent time hanging around there. This place went through some renovations. If I remember things correctly, the basement got renovated and everything was on the top floor for months. The Toad in the Hole used to be on the east side of Osborne Street. When Buccacino's closed down further south and on the west side of Osborne Street, this eatery took the space over and has been there for a few years now. I have yet to see what the space looks like. Part of me wants to remember what Buccacino's was like before it shut down. The other part of me wants a scotch egg from The Toad. I love scotch eggs. I had my first one here. I remember the egg being soft-boiled. When you cut through the breading and sausage, the yolk would slowly ooze out. The scotch egg was deep-fried to perfection. Yum! I also liked getting its namesake. It was two sunny-side eggs in grilled Texas toast. It came with hashbrowns. You could choose from sausage, bacon, or ham as your protein side. I enjoyed the toad-themed breakfast menu besides the Toad in the Hole: - Tadpole (two eggs without being fried within toast) - Big toad (think English breakfast with baked beans, grilled tomato slices, and all protein sides) - Senor toad (tortillas topped with refried beans, sunny-side eggs, guacamole, pico de gallo, and cheddar) - Vegan senor toad (similar to the regular one, substituting the eggs for grilled veggies and the cheddar for a vegan version) The fish and chips are also decent here. The fish is pickerel, which was different than cod or halibut. It tasted fresh, which I loved. I don't recall ever having dessert here. I don't remember if it even served any! I hope that the pub is nice. It used to have happy hour deals that were decent. I want scotch eggs now! (359)

So I had supper at Blaze Restaurant & Lounge in the Delta Hotel ... and I'm glad I did. I sat on the lobby side rather than inside the dining area. The pulled pork sandwich was delicious ... the bun was soft and tasted almost buttery Allen was my server. He was friendly and despite the concert crowd, made sure I was taken care of.

We won't be back and we're glad we left because we discovered an excellent place just aster leaving. We sat down and yes, it was a Jets game and it was busy, but the place was by no means full. There were enough staff walking around the lounge so we waited about 10 minutes to get a menu and be acknowledged. After 15 minutes, we tried to get the server's attention several time as she visited the table next to us at least three times. No success. On her fourth visit to the table beside us and not even any eye contact, we decided that was it so we packed up and left. We live half a block from this place and have given it chances on and off hockey nights. We will not be coming back and instead visiting one of the many dozen other options in a half block around this place.

I ordered the 12 oz New York strip with a twice baked potato, and everything was spot on. Steak was cooked perfectly medium rare, super juicy and tender. The potato was packed with flavor--bacon bits and chives mixed in, just how it should be. They start you off with some warm bread (always a win), and I had a hazy IPA that paired really well with the meal. The service was excellent--friendly, attentive, and on point. Definitely planning to come back next time I'm in Canada and try some of the other cuts!

I opted for the bone-in rib steak & added lobster tail, twice baked potato & mushrooms on the side. The lobster tail was definitely the star of the show on the plate. The lobster meat was sweet enough, the butter wasn't even necessary. The rib steak was a bit too peppery for me and didn't have the marbling I usually find in this cut. The twice baked potato was good, and I can see how some people are a fan of it. I prefer thin mushroom slices and not the whole mushroom, but again, to each their own. A bit on the pricier side, so might be worth a try if you're around and want a bit nicer of a dinner.
