They have several local ales on tap and some "Real Ale" cask conditioned for a traditional experience. Sadly, there was no roast beef when we arrived so we'll have to wait for the classic Sunday roast. Steak and ale pie, and a butternut squash pie were good substitutes. This is a popular spot, especially for outdoor seating. We sat inside in a cozy dining room but if the weather is dry outdoors is a nice option. PLEASE NOTE: We ordered delivery from Wagamama through Deliveroo…read more No matter when or where I am in the UK, I'm always gonna get a Wagamama. My recent visit to Bath was no different: my whole existence professionally speaking is about uplifting and supporting local, but sometimes a girl just wants something quick, reliable, and satisfying. And when a fast casual place has vegan food that's alllllllwaaaaaaaaaays good? Let her eat. A special shout-out to the staff here this time. Something I ordered wasn't available. LIke Wagamama had literally just discontinued it entirely, but hadn't updated their website or Deliveroo pages. The staff tried to call/text me repeatedly to say they couldn't fill my order but would be happy to swap it out for anything else I wanted. After an hour of not hearing from me (my bad, I'm so sorry!), they cancelled my order. Deliveroo was quick to refund me, and I put in a new order right away. This Wagamama location expedited the order (eg it still arrived pretty close to when my first order would have) and was EXTREMELY generous with the portion size. I know this isn't the norm and not what you should expect, but... there's something to be said about people still trying and still offering good customer service. My usual order?: The Vegatsu (tofu and soya protein coated in crispy panko breadcrumbs, sticky white rice, and their classic aromatic katsu curry sauce) topped with two or three side orders of their kimchi, a couple pouches of their chili oil, and a drizzle of their firecracker sauce (as well as a squeeze of lime and handful of chopped up coriander from Waitrose nearby). Add an order of edamame to it, and this is as good as it gets!

They have a great menu with loads of different choices and I love that most items come with a bit of a kick and loads of flavour. The curries are my favourite, but I also really like the beef brisket hot pot. So much flavour! I will say that I do find some of the food a little salty, but I'm very sensitive to salt. I wouldn't eat here everyday as it's not low-calorie food, but I definitely recommend it!

No wind either. I needed a rest and some air conditioning, but I've found out that AC is a rarity in the UK. My friend and I were hungry, hot, and tired, and we stopped into The West Gate. I loved how old it was! There was barely anyone in there by the time we arrived. It was 3 PM. The bar area is the first thing you see, but I asked where the coolest place to sit was. The bartender told us to go to the back room, where it was reasonably comfortable with ceiling fans. If we wanted to order, we had to order at the bar. I guess that was because it was between lunch and dinner. No biggie. The food was good, and the beer was great. I wanted something cold and dry. I was recommended a Japanese beer called Asahi. Wow! So good for a hot day!!! I have to find this in the US. I ordered the Cod Goujon Sandwich. Very crispy, and it came with some chips/fries, and onion rings. I thought I saw a group of women at another table order steak fries/chips, but I must have been mistaken. I so wanted steak fries! Mine were skinny. In hindsight, I should have just gotten the fish & chips because the bun was a bit much. Basically, the same meal but without the bun. I had to ask for extra tartar sauce because the sandwich was too dry without the amount they put on. Overall, I loved this place. Quirky, old, and the bathrooms are a must-see, with the old pipes and faucets. I asked the bartender how old the building was, but he had no clue.

@Eating.Drinking: "I…read moredon't want this to end." * Sounds like a stereotypical line from 2018's latest box office chick flick. In fact, it's a line I subconsciously muttered as I made my way to the end of this sublime meal. * We were lucky anyway to be staying at the @royalcrescent_hotel (a separate post on this later) and maybe even luckier to find a last minute booking for @chequersbath, the ultimate foodie pub, having stumbled across the last available Saturday evening slot on @opentable. * Restaurant: On the outside, it's a pub set on a quiet street in a pretty Georgian building. It has your usual pub benches with punters seated, sipping beer and wine on this sun-soaked street in Bath. On the inside, it's also a pub, very simply wood-furnished with pews and blackboards. * Staff: You are instantly greeted by the friendly, knowledgeable staff the moment you set foot inside this gastronomical goldmine. Everyone knows the menu, ingredients and it's service with a smile from start to finish. * Food: Where to begin. There is a great menu, clearly laid out. The name of the dish is simply its focal point so it's easy to find your way around. We opted for seafood but there is also pork, lamb, rabbit and steak on offer. There is also a strong selection of vegetarian alternatives. * Summary: I've already used the phrase 'gastronomical goldmine' and that sums it up. Quite honestly I can't think of a better superlative but will say it was a 'seafood sensation!' * Salmon - teriyaki/caviar/mooli/yoghurt Hand-dived scallop - black pudding/celeriac/apple/hazelnut Cod - herb-crusted/black beans/chorizo/squid/bouride Halibut - Heritage tomato/courgette/Jersey Royals/black garlic * We paid around £80 for dinner and a couple of drinks. For a meal like this it's nothing, you'd do well to find this level in London's restaurants. It's worth every penny. * I live in London but I'll be back on my next available Friday night for the 7 course tasting menu! * www.thechequersbath.com * 50 Rivers Street, Bath, BA1 2QA * *

Management responded with a very petty, unprofessional response on Google. If you chose to eat at this place...that's on you.

They have a good selection of interesting cheeses. Even though it was empty on a weekday afternoon, the cheesemonger didn't seem particularly interested in helping us since we weren't buying a ton. I know it's annoying to let us sample and then cut a bunch of 100 g pieces, but we just didn't have anywhere to store the cheese on our trip. Paxton and Whitfield was always a London institution. And I love old traditional shops, especially businesses as old as this one. So, I went into this shop hopeful I could find a special treat for a picnic. It was lovely, a really special experience. The young man in the shop was really helpful and knowledgeable and friendly and not in the least bit snooty. There were lots of beautiful artisan cheeses from all over, including some special local cheeses. Suffice it to say that I tasted some beautiful cheeses in there and took some lovely stuff home with me. I can only recommend that you do the same. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did.
