It is messy disorganized and I worry about the fact the cleaning guy finished up cleaning the tables and headed to the station to retrieve and bag the food. No hands washed. He also served the food to table. The staff on the floor and behind register seem lethargic and like they really don't want to be working here as they shuffle along literally dragging and sluggish. The long line made it a 10 minute wait with one person attending. No beer was available in the fridge so they had to get it from storage and then I was told I couldn't take it out only drunk there. He must have been happy to take it back and chug it down himself. I would've been. I am waiting and wondering what the workers hygiene habits are in the kitchen. So after I get home with my bag the napkins are on top and there are two open fries inside and the ketchup bags are dumped right on top of the fries.... really? WATCH THE REGISTER OR REVIEW YOUR RECEIPT!! This Smashburger location intentionally over rings the unsuspecting. Smash fries are $2.29 on the menu but they will ring you up at $2.39 at the register. When busted, your cashier will merely shrug and say there's nothing he can do about it. How about changing the menu or changing the register so the prices match! This is theft and should be reported to the Attorney General. Meanwhile keep an eye on how things ring up at the register if you buy here. I have never had this issue at any other Smashburger so perhaps this is just a shady franchise. The beef was delicious and the smash sauce could become an addiction. The egg bun was great and overall it was a delicious messy meal! The smash fries are seasoned with garlic, olive oil and rosemary, none of which were too overpowering and a perfect compliment to the shoestring fries. The size of the burger and the fries was not skimpy but just right for me. The staff was super friendly. You place your order and are given a number to put on your table while you wait for the food to be delivered. The wait was super short, maybe 3 or 4 minutes tops. I was asked a couple times by staff if everything was good and I really appreciate how it seems like the staff are actually enjoying working there. Not your usual fast food employees at all, looked much more like the staff of a local hip restaurant or bar. Nice clean white tables, stocked with just the basics; ketchup, mustard, s&p, and napkins. My first visit to Smashburger was on a Saturday Afternoon and it was packed. YOu place your order, get a number which you place on the table and they bring your food directly to your table. The staff is extremely friendly and clear the tables pretty quickly so there isn't a large wait to sit. On my first visit I had one of their burgers. I had my doubts about the burgers when I heard the were "smashed", which I always equate with dryness, but this burger was juicy and delicious-cooked perfectly. On my second visit I had a chicken sandwich. The chicken was grilled to perfection and absolutely delicious, As for the sides: on my first visit I had the fries, which I was quite disappointed with as they seemed like frozen fries. I have had much better. On the second visit we decided to try the haystack onions and the veggie frites, both of which were delicious. I am a long time customer of this particular Smashburger from the moment they opened. When they opened the food was great and the customer service was even better! However.... in more recent months, we have seen a great decline in the customer service skills of this branch. From going in one time where they had a 60 minute wait for food to them not being able to take an order properly without a lot of hand holding. The last time we went in was the last straw. We ordered the brussel sprouts (they're really good actually!) but when the young lady brought them to our table, it was about 2 brussel sprouts cut in thirds. I remarked that this was an absurdly small amount to bring for an order. The young lady brought them back to her manager, Samantha, who looked at them and then told her they were correct and to just bring them back to us. I retorted that I would not want such a small order and asked for a refund. Now that being said, I did not want a refund. I ordered the brussel sprouts because I enjoy them and was looking forward to them. My gambit was that upon hearing this, the manager, Samantha, would realize that her customers were upset and providing a couple of more brussel sprouts was a rather easy and not very costly solution. Instead... Samantha gave the young lady cash to give back to us, which she did without even an apology for the issue. Samantha, the manager, never once spoke with us or acknowledged us in the slightest, instead going on with her business as if everything was great. Walking in you notice the decor is very Mod- Space like. 9pm at night very bright but also very clean. It was large and she enjoyed it but it did not leave her filled. I got a truffle mushroom swiss burger $6.99. It was good but nothing to rave about. There must have been a spice in the mayo that I was not crazy about but I know disliking rosemary & oregano is my own problem. I chose to get the "regular" size and I found it was not that filling either. The meat was fresh. I found the egg bun to be not so fresh or maybe like heated quickly in a microwave? Texture was weird. Burger was a bit greasy but that may have been from the truffle mayo. The fries $1.99 were good, the small type like a little thinner than Mcdonalds. When we arrived to meet a friend who lives in Wantagh, and told her that we ate their she was like yeah that place is OK I find it expensive for fast food. I don't know what it is, but i'm just not drawn to this place. I was at an event here a while back (which is not swaying my opinion), had a great time there, yet only once stepped back in the doors, and it was only because I had time to kill at lunch time. It's almost like they were thinking, we'll put just a smidge of this stuff on, that way they can get a good taste of everything, mostly the burger, buuuut it just didn't work. I also got the fries, ugh, who cuts fries this big?!? They were like Kraft mac n cheese size, come on.. Also, no taste, thank you ketchup invention. I ordered the Baja burger featuring guacamole and jalapeño. The burger had good flavor and still had pink in the middle; in other words, perfect. Very localized businesses for me always merit a harsher review scale since they have the clear advantage of location in a busy world setting I will be more inclined to give them repeat tries. I could literally walk to this location if I wanted too. A steady decline here has been displayed and it's time to air out this dirty laundry (no pun intended). I'm not too sure what happened here exactly but as others have stated it's time to change up the management and have some corporate intervention. This place is constantly understaffed so forget about any "fast food" aspect at peak dining hours. I've been seated, served, and eaten at legitimate restaurants faster then this place. It's just a failure on multiple fronts... there is never more then one register person, there are overworked cooks in the back, and one food runner essentially 99% of the time. I'm guilty of not ordering ahead through the app but that shouldn't be a requirement nonetheless. Just yelling it a bit louder for people in the back who have already listed these complaints... the floor is slick, there are constantly dirty tables, and who knows if they ever clean the area around the soda station. Last visit was embarrassing because half of the digital menu display was a Windows blue screen of death but even when they work they are difficult to read (coming from someone who doesn't wear glasses or need them). Food wise this place is shockingly good to me though. The signature burger, chicken, and hotdogs (when they had them) are more then adequate. Truthfully I would rank it above shake shack by a mile, a little above Bobby flays, and a stylistic decision against beloved five guys. I'm okay paying a bit more because of this but the fries quantity being equivalent to a 90s happy meal for the price of a McDonald's large is disrespectful to consumer intelligence. Meanwhile at five guys they are basically unloading the frier into your bag... So this place is totally let down by management and staff that clearly doesn't care and seedy business practices. Great tasting burger. The classic big was a nice size. The bun had good texture and was slightly undersized for the burger. Completed with tomato, red onion, lettuce and cheese. Cheese fries at first glimpse are lacking on the cheese. But as you dig deeper you strike gooey gold. Sweet potato fries are crispy. Many time I get them and they are usually on the limp soggy side. Have been here many times and never unhappy with the food or the service- until last night. The place just felt like a mess- tables not clean, wait times too long, etc. We decided to get take out, so I ordered the grilled chicken truffle mushroom and Swiss sandwich with regular fries. After waiting for nearly 15 minutes, our food was ready and we headed home. When I opened my sandwich and took my first bite, I had to spit it back out. The chicken was SO thin and overcooked to the point where I couldn't bite through it. The swiss cheese was burnt to the chicken and there were about 3 mushrooms on the sandwich. I'm not one to complain quickly but had I been eating this in the restaurant, it would have been returned immediately. For $8+, I expect a much higher quality meal. Well-done Smashburger (pun completely intended.) I literally pass by this place every week and have never walked in. I know it's gotten a lot of hype since opening up in Wantagh. I've tried it's competitors such as Red Robin and Five Guys. And I wasn't sure how they were gonna measure up. But wow, was I impressed! The outside looks very modern, bold and hip. I think the HUGE bold fonted letters make quite the impression. When walking in it was clear I was new. I was looking around like a deer lost in the woods. I noticed that the place was super clean and mod-looking. The menu was plastered on these big flatscreen panels on the wall. The girls working there were very nice and were patient with my overwhelming impression of the place. I'm a foodie at heart. When I'm at a new place I gotta look at EVERYTHING. I love that things are very customizable without the extra cost. You can get a sandwich (beef, veggie or chicken) to the way you like it. Now that's what I call giving the customer what they want! I asked the girl what she likes and got the Grilled Chicken Sandwich Avocado Club. Here was what I put on it: I omitted the Ranch and Mayo. I was feeling kinda a spicy mood so I opted on the spicy chipotle sauce. I also got lettuce, tomato and onion. Classic. On the whole grain bun. I got it to-go...it came out in like 5-10 minutes.
