I've been here before and have not liked it, but my opinion has changed after giving them a second chance. The ambiance is cool with neon all over. My burger tasted so good! The roasted brussel sprouts keep showing up in my dreams. Stay away from the Truffle burger. I love truffles, but this is the burger that kept me away for so long. My Double Deluxe had 2 yummy patties, lettuce, tomato, pickles (yay pickles!) and a sauce. I usually don't like sauces on my burger, but this was good. The burgers were so good. I don't know what makes one burger better than another, but whatever Smashburger does, is delicious. The service was A+. My husband didn't know what he wanted and he was on the phone with me forever until he decided. The manager didn't huff or lose his temper as I think it took about 10 minutes for hubby to make a decision. Then my loyalty account wouldn't work. Manager to the rescue. I love a good smash burger so trying this spot while passing by was a no brainer. My favorite items I got was their loaded smash fries I loved the rosemary seasoning and the melted cheese. I also got a milkshake, the cinnamon bread pudding and that stuff is ADDICTING. I wish there were more spots in Queens. The strawberry dragonfruit was also amazing. I would say I've had better smash burgers before, I thought the meat was too thin and there was more veggies than meat/cheese on my burger. The service was fast and efficient despite only one person taking orders/ cleaning/ handing out orders. And it was busy! Preface with- We ordered and received a ton of fries for the fam. At the beginning of the visit, the servers were not attentive, and when I attempted to get their attention, they appeared to ignore me. After I went up to them directly and asked for assistance, the service sort of improved. There were also small details that could be improved, such as an empty ketchup bottle left on the table. Could have been 5 stars. I ordered a double classic smash and ask them to grill the onions. The cashier said ok but then served me a burger with raw onion. When I brought it to her attention, she said that those are the onions that come on the burger. I said to her that they can take those onions and put them on the grill and it turns into grilled onions. She looked at me like I was crazy and didn't offer to resolve it and walked away. This was a decent meal at smash burger. I do have to say that I ordered 3 turkey burgers and only 1 came out exactly how it was ordered. A bit disappointing, but I was able to remove some toppings and move some others around to accommodate my picky family. Once I got down to actually eating the burger, it was really good! They have a lot of options for your liking, which is really a plus! I'd definitely go back to try some other burger combinations, but will check my order before leaving! Nice clean space, parking available. Employees are on it and there's usually someone going around cleaning up. I never been inside their bathroom therefor I can not comment on that. Now food, is okay and there's been a few occasions where certain burgers were just way too salty. Almost to the point of not being able to eat. Milkshakes although asked for malted, you could still feel the chunks slipping through the straw. Fries, salty as well and they just taste plasticky. I had one visit that was off the mark, then another, and like a dirty snowball, it's all rolling down hill. Here's where you've been doing me wrong: Your kitchen can't handle the heat (or crowds), literally. I get it, things are busy around the evening rush hours. At 5-8pm you're probably flippin' and squishin' more burgers than Joe at the Mcdonald's down the road. However, there should be appropriate staff, even if it's a weeknight. I'm hangry, and I've been waiting 25, 30 minutes for small orders (2 items to go). That's after standing on a yuge line to order and pay because only one poor soul is working the registers. Perhaps this is done purposely to slow down food order traffic. Who knows. I still have to wait an abhorrent amount of time in a fast food(ish) place to order and receive dinner and will make faces about it. I'd imagine that because the kitchen is so busy, they're rushing and skimping with the food. I get a salad with goat cheese, chicken and some other healthy stuff to make myself feel slightly better about being too lazy to cook. Often times there's a severe lack of cheese. Other times when I've gotten chicken burgers they are so sloppy, so mushed and lukewarm by the time I get home.. or somethings missing. Ugh. They sometimes run out of items. Sweet potato fries last night, and ice cream another night. Not exactly sure how that happens... but it does. Your order packer needs gloves. He seems like a nice enough guy, courteous and smiling. He took his time packing orders which is fine, he's trying not to mess up, but when he sticks his un-gloved hands inside the top of the fry containers to pack them... Um, I can't jive with that. If you touch food and then other surfaces in a public space, you need to wear gloves or wash your hands more than a kindergarten teacher in February. Prices have been going up, up up! We enjoy the food at Smashburger but on this particular day, 9/30/23, I experienced very poor customer relations and and bad decision making. I walked into the Wantagh Ave Wantagh, NY and was told there'd be a 45-60 minute wait for any orders as they took a very big 50 burger order prior to me walking in off the street. I asked to speak to the manager and he refused to come out to speak with me. There was nobody in the restaurant at that time so why didn't the manager have 1 person handle any walk-ins? Decent Smashburger location compared to others nearby. Plenty of seating even with social distancing for COVID. Service is slow like every other location. My youngest son was completely against a restaurant or catering hall for his first communion. What did he want? Smashburger! We saw online that catering was a little confusing so my wife stopped in, and met Byron the manager. He answered all the questions and took care of our order with adding a la carte items to the catering order. He was 1,000% transparent about certain items, not on catering, that don't transfer as great as opposed to eating in the restaurant. I had an order for 20 people, pick up for 5:30pm....I got there 15 minutes early and Byron was in the kitchen himself making sure all items were cooked fresh and order was ready to go 5 min early. I know this might seem like overkill for review of Smashburger, but post COVID I feel like service at most food & restaurants have declined terribly and orders never seem right for simple requests. I'm knocking this place down a star. I love the food, I really do, but I consistently am disappointed by one thing or another here. On more than one occasion, I'll pay for an ingredient, and when I get home the ingredient isn't on top of my burger. Also, the sauce I order is rarely on the burger. I shouldn't have to check the burger before I leave. Last night, our cashier was confused about our order. We ordered 2 smash fries and had a coupon for free sweet potato fries, so we snagged those as well. So 3 orders in total. He even recreated it back to us, but was ultimately confused and went to get a key from the manager to take one fry off. So we go and wait for our food, and I inspect the receipt and see that the mistake was not remedied and we were still missing an order of fries. Honestly, I work in food service and deal with customers every single day, I understand what goes on. So when I brought it up to the manager, I assumed he would quickly remedy the situation. But, not before giving me a serious attitude and speaking to me like an idiot. I'm sorry, is it my fault the cashier didn't understand how to put in the order? He was rude and had the audacity to roll his eyes at me! To make matters worse, I have a serious issue with the fact that the manager wasn't wearing gloves as he placed orders in bags. I don't really enjoy their burgers, because its a bit too chewier than I prefer. However, their salads are decent and I am in love with the cheese fries. The fries themselves are very thinly cut haystack kind of fries, which you might enjoy if you prefer McD shoestring to thicker cut fries. The cheese sauce is great. It is not nacho cheese nor is it a slice of cheddar melted on the fries. It feels almost like a cheesy roux. I went in ready to order dinner for 4 with enough leftover for a couple of lunches. They used to have printed menus at the door. Not anymore. Unfortunately the menu posted behind the registers has printing too small to be read by me. I assumed Smashburger specialized in burgers, but I was pleasantly surprised to see chicken and salad options - and not just one or two, there were almost just as many options of those as there were for burgers. I was trying to be healthy and ordered the grilled chicken on a multigrain bun. It was delicious. And the fries are super skinny, so eating a few of them didn't make me feel so guilty. It was the shake that followed that had My Fitness Pal disappointed, but I was catching up with a friend for hours and getting milkshakes just seemed like he right choice. I was hoping to try Nutter Butter, but they were out. I ordered vanilla Butterfinger instead; it did not disappoint. My only complaint was that the fried pickles were a tad too salty. My Fitness Pal was happy I only had two. The decor is very spacious and clean, so it was actually a really great spot to sit and catch up with a buddy. We never felt rushed, we were comfortable, and our stomachs were happily full.
