I like the brand but definitely not this location. Their workers have the worst attitude. I stood in line for 10 min while one person made shakes. 2nd person comes up doesn't say hi or even thanks for the order, just hands me the receipt. Should send undercover boss there. It's ok. The staff may make mistakes on orders but they might throw in an order of so-so fries like they did when they messed up our order. We ordered a crispy chicken sandwich and a smashburger to go. Got home, changed out of work clothes, turned on the TV, and took the food out of the paper bags to discover they had given us two smashburgers - crispy chicken nowhere to be seen. We called the place up and they offered to make a new one IF we came back to pick it up. Now my poor fiancé's driving back to Clark Commons while the food they did get right sits here getting colder by the minute. Lesson learned: Check your food before you leave!! I went back to give it another chance since I live so close. The main purpose of this update is to compare Five Guys to Smashburger, but I have to start by saying I felt rushed to place my order and there was no one behind me. I got the same plain burger and fries at each place with a soda. I'm not rating special sauces because I feel that's a personal choice and their main purpose is to disguise poor quality meats like Burger King and McDonald's. Menu-Smashburger Burger-Five Guys Fries-Five Guys Onion Rings-Even The first thing I noticed is the menu, Smashburger has more to choose from, but since I don't eat fast food often, this doesn't affect me. I just want a good burger when I'm in the mood. The meat quality and flavor at both places was very good. The double burger at Five Guys fit on the bun nicely. When asked, I told the girl at Smashburger I wanted the regular bun. I'm not sure what they gave me, but it was too much bread for the burger. The meat was very thin and hung outside the bun about 3/4" all the way around. I broke off the exposed meat and doubled it up inside the bun when I got to the 2nd half. That helped, but it was still lost in the bread. The fries at Five Guys are outstanding! They seem like natural potatoes. Smashburger's fries are very, very thin. Burger King and McDonald's fries blow Smashburger's away. Five Guys doesn't have onion rings. Smashburger's are nasty, greasy and tough. They call them Haystacks. Final Note-Be careful if you ask for fried onions on your burger, they wanted to put those greasy haystacks onions on my friend's burger. I don't think I'll go back, I'd rather drive out to Rt 22 and get a great burger and fries at Five Guys for the same money. read more

Smash Burger does their best to deliver food quick and correctly. They do a great job of that and do not often mess up! Only a few times they may give you the wrong order but they usually have very great service. It is a nice environment and is located in a comfy spot between A smoothie shop and Blaze Pizza. UPDATE: I went this week and I was less impressed. My burger was good, but it was average for Smashburger whereas last week was fantastic. They also got my fries wrong as well as my friends. We ordered large Smash fries but got plain. We got them exchanged, but in both cases they seemed to be giving out less fries than I'v had in the past at other locations. Like I said, it's still good, but this location was average this time rather than the standout they were last time. --- FIRST REVIEW: Couldn't be happier. Went here to pick up dinner last night with my boyfriend. We both ordered burgers and smash fries. While we waited for our food I realized how filthy the entire place was. There was food on the floor and the counter space where the workers prepared shakes and orders was littered with wrappers and uneaten food. The table we sat down at to wait and surrounding tables were sticky and littered with half eaten food and used napkins. I noticed the server pulling forks out of the holder by the part you put in your mouth. My boyfriend went to the bathroom as an employee was leaving the bathroom to find weed all over the toilet seats. And worst of all me and my boyfriend have been running to the bathroom every hour to throw up. So if you like a Smashburger with stoned employees who don't care how they represent the place their working at or themselves, low low low cleanliness standards,and a nice case of food poisoning you'll love this one. read more

Went to the Clark location for the Chicken Smashburger after having had a great meal at a different location on Saturday. To my chagrin, there were three strands of hair in the middle of the sandwich. At first I thought it was a strand of the fried onions. Took another bite, hair #2. Was able to retrieve n save. Not a fast food eater anymore, probably haven't eaten at a fast food place in years- first time in Smashburger. I ordered a spicy jalapeño beef burger; my wife ordered a black bean salad. On the good side, both meals were tasty and we both liked having the meal brought to the table. We didn't have to stand around waiting for the order to be filled. It felt a little more like a real restaurant. On the bad side, my order was for the large burger. I thought they made a mistake and gave me the small size until I saw the small size. For what they charge, I think the portion size should be more. Second, there was 1 line for ordering which makes for a good sized backup during busy times. For one, as mentioned, we were first timers so we had questions. But, at least we checked out the menu while waiting. There were others who hadn't bothered to decide until they got to the front of the line. I guess we were lucky they didnt pay by check. There's got to be a better way read more

The last two times I've been here I found it to be very dirty. Most recently there were flies all over the place to the point that we couldn't eat our food. It was annoying and disgusting. I was here when it first opened...I couldn't been happier to have this place closer to me then going to Menlo. I was disappointed couldn't have the birthday shake there since it's a new location. The grilled chicken I had the first time had so much pepper on it I wiped it off with a napkin. The shakes are wonderful and are good. I love the birthday shake so like I said before I'm disappointed this one didn't have the July special. The Oreo is just as good. read more

My first visit to a Smashburger of any kind today at the Clark, NJ, location was just average. The burger was smaller/thinner than I expected it would be (and look nothing like the pictures), and it was so hard/burned at the edges that it hurt my teeth to eat. I saw that the fries were shoe string fries and hoped they would be sort of like how steak frites would taste a la French bistros...but they were not anything like that at all, unfortunately. The fries were tasteless and stale (they were wilted and not fresh by the time I got home with them 15 min later). Five Guys, Urban Burger (Cranford), and even Wendy's burgers are so much tastier. I work at a neighboring establishment in Clark Commons and there have been multiple times when, while taking out the garbage, employees hanging out on their smoking break will harass my fellow employees and myself. I ate there twice and twice they got my order wrong. The first time, the bun was soaked in oil and the fries were cold. They gave us new fries and a new bun. The second time, the fries were dripping in oil, the chicken was dripping in oil and they gave me the wrong chicken sandwich. They can't get anything right, they don't drain anything before putting the oily mess on your plate, and I heard the cook tell the waiter "You must be f...ing kidding me" when he brought someone else's plate back because the order was wrong, and there were little kids sitting right by the area with their parents. I just went to Smashburger in Clark. They completely screwed up my order which I discovered once I got home. Upon my return to correct the problem I found my burger waiting in the counter. When I asked for a fresh order of haystacks, you would have thought I'd asked for a kidney. They said it would be 5 minutes. I found the attitude overbearing, boorish and unprofessional. It was their error and the least they could have done was acted like it and apologized. Which never happened. The poor hostess was left holding the bag for the kitchen's mistake that I almost didn't post this complaint.
