I had the worst salon experience at SmartStyle inside Walmart. I came for a simple ash root touch-up on my faded silver hair. Instead, the stylist bleached my whole head without my consent, leaving it dry and yellow. When I asked her to fix it and said I would pay, she yelled at me, insisted she was right, and claimed it was ash. She then demanded payment, screamed, and told me she's the MANAGER, despite her unprofessional behavior. I stayed to get my hair fixed, not refusing payment. Instead of fixing her mistake, she called the cops. I paid just to leave with damaged yellow hair I now must repair at home. I'll show photos of the damage. Unprofessional, unaccountable, with a manager who doesn't treat customers well. Do NOT trust this place with your hair. read more

If you are Black or have textured hair, I recommend not coming here. I called around 1:50 PM to ask if anyone at the salon knew how to work with textured hair. I spoke to someone who I believe was named Elisha. I mentioned that my hair is 4B texture and chin-length. She informed me that the starting price would be $25, but she couldn't give me a definitive price until I arrived. I got there at 2:20 PM, but apparently, Elisha had gone to lunch. The woman with short red hair informed me that they don't work with textured hair because they don't have the necessary products. She mentioned that if it were her, she would charge me between $60 and $80 for a wash and blow-dry. I wondered if she was suggesting that I leave, but I decided to stay because I have never had an issue with paying for hairstyles; as a Black person, I often spend $200 to $300 on hair services. The woman with red hair was rude and kept insisting that I couldn't use my own hair products, despite being told over the phone that it would be okay. As her attitude became increasingly dismissive, I decided to cancel my appointment and leave, and I will never be back. read more

Went here yesterday for a haircut and showed the lady what I wanted and definitely didn't get what I asked for. Curtain bangs turned into chopped short bangs. I was so sad to see what I left with and still got charged with a "10%" discount. I am so disappointed. She apologized but that won't make my hair look better. Just wanted something simple and that wasn't done. I will never go back there. read more

Be careful getting your hair done at "Smart Style" I had my hair braided there a couple of months ago, and although the stylist is no longer there, she damaged my scalp. The stylist braided my hair so tight, until it left me with "Alopecia" in the middle of my scalp. I went to the shop 2 days after the "Stylist" braided my hair, to advise her the braids were too tight. She didn't offer to re do my hair for a discount, or refund my money; she simply told me to take the braids down. After I took the braids down, I contacted the "Stylist" by text, and showed her pictures of my scalp, and she never responded. I didn't realize that I had "Alopecia" until I had my hair done recently on October 14th, by a "Professional" at another shop. At that point I contacted Smart Style to advise them what happened. First of all, they tried to put the blame on Walmart, and stated they simply rent their salon out of Walmart, however Walmart is responsible. Although when you book the appointment, it is booked through Smart Style, and the shop states the name is Smart Style. The only association with Walmart, is the business is inside of Walmart. Smart Style did however offer to pay back a fraction of my money. I was charged hourly to get my hair braided, and it took the "Stylist" approximately 3 1/2 hours to braid my hair. She also stopped several times to assist customers. I also provided her with a $35.00 tip, so I paid close to $400.00, which is absolutely ridiculous! I was later informed by Smart Style that they do not even provide the type braid service this Stylist performed; although one of the services on their website "clearly" states they do "cornrows" by the hour. I was refunded only $170.00, although I produced pictures of my damaged scalp. I also have a copy of the transaction from my husband's debit card. I also went into Walmart, and asked to speak to a Manager to inform the Manager of my complaint, but was told Walmart is not responsible for Smart Style, they only rent space to them. Although, I personally feel that both Walmart, and Smart Style are both responsible, I do feel that Smart Style holds the majority of the responsibility. However, Walmart should not rent space to this business, if they're not going to take responsibility for customer service complaints. I would caution anyone who decides to get any services at Smart Style to make sure that Smart Style is going to take responsibility for any damage to their hair, or for any complaints. Another excuse Smart Style used is that the Stylist no longer works for them. However, I seen the Stylist, at Smart Style doing hair weeks after, I reported to her that she damaged my scalp, I doubt if she was terminated, she may have resigned, because she felt that I would complain! read more

I've come here before to get my hair cut and get highlights, and decided to come back. I'm so glad I did. As soon as I entered, a hair stylist named Stacia called out that she'd be right with me even though she was busy with another customer and so were all the other hair stylists. She got my information and told me it'd take 20 to 30 minutes. I was fine with that and sat down to wait. It didn't take that long and soon she was with me. I'm not the type of customer who wants to chat, just chill and let the employee do their thing, and Stacia let me do just that. I know with her previous customer, she was chatty because the customer was chatty, so she knew how to provide what sort of customer service to who. It took awhile to get my highlights because I wanted all of my hair done, but both it and my hair cut came out beautifully. It was exactly how I wanted it and I haven't had that sort of hair satisfaction in years. I'd definitely come back to Stacia for any of my hair needs. read more

If I could leave a zero star review...I would... I made an appointment for 4pm, since I was expected at work at 7pm... I arrived 15 mins early. The woman that was going to do my hair, had a perm client she was finishing. No biggie. Now it's 4:15. Still waiting. A man walks in, says he's there for a hair cut. She takes him. Now it 4:30...still waiting...4:45....the woman that checked me in apologizes and says it will be just another moment. The rude stylist then looks at me...again...so she goes to grab the towels to fold them instead. The lady tells her, you have a hair cut waiting, she looks at me (always with disgust)...so she calls the lady in the rollers back to her chair and begins just looking at the rollers. I sat in the salon for over 1 hour. Watching clients without appointments being helped left and right. I walked into this store excited to get my hair cut, smiling, and polite. There was no explanation for being treated like this....but I will say, I fully believe it's due to the fact that I am gay. I am beyond disgusted with the treatment I received at this store...so much so, I walked out without ever getting the persons name. She's a shorter older woman with a blonde bob type cut. I would never in a million years go back to or recommend this salon. But the woman that checked me in was a doll. She's a taller blonde lady with an accent and a great sense of humour. Had it not been for her...I would have been far more offended than I was. And I was really upset about this. I also didn't make it to work. If you want to be treated with respect and get a great cut and style, see Paige at the Smart Style on Marks St. I highly recommend her! I am a fan of John Belushi's Samurai Futabe Saturday Night Live sketches. I enjoyed the Samurai Tailor, Samurai Stockbroker, and Samurai Psychiatrist. In Smart Style I met the Samurai Hairstylist. The Samurai Hairstylist is the most inhospitable hair stylist to have ever cut my hair. When I walked in she asked me for my phone number to see if I was listed in the system. From there the Samurai Hairstylist barely talked to me. She did not explain what style would go best with my hair or what style she was going to cut my hair. The majority of the haircut was the swirl of an electric shaver done with the same affection as mowing a lawn. What made me concerned was when the Samurai Hairstylist was doing electric shaver kamikazis with my hair, she was focusing on the other hairstylists who were sitting by the sinks. I did a terrible thing and happened to walk in on Friday June 21st around 4:30 PM when Smart Style was empty. Its not like I ended their conversation. Listening in, I did get an inside tip from their conversation that the Eastern at Patrick Walmart Smart Style has the worst reputation. The Samurai Hairstylist would break the silence to snap "Keep your head up!" and sigh. Fortunately, the Samurai Hairstylist does have talent. When I looked up at the mirror with my head up, it looked like I would be walking out of here with my hair unscathed. Despite the off the charts awful customer service, I tipped her. As I was leaving, the Samurai Hairstylist did not thank me for the tip or the visit. She did not ask me what I thought of the haircut. When a person is cold to me, I start daydreaming. I started thinking of John Belushi's Samurai Futabe character. She reminded me of him. It was very strenuous to not crack up giggling while trying to keep my head exactly up. When all is said and done, I am updating Smart Style to a 3 star rating. A 1 star drop. On my previous visits, personable and talented hair stylists have worked on my hair. The problem is that the personable and talented hair stylists move on to better opportunities. The reality is that there are more hair stylists in Las Vegas than there are Starbucks. I will most likely look for a hair salon where a personable and talented hair stylist treats my hair more like a canvass instead of a lawn. To me this is the smart style-which is my style. Today 6:24pm on 1/12/'20, I came in to get a haircut but the lady didn't want to give me a haircut because she was about to close. I asked her, "don't you close at 7pm?", she replied, "I know but I'm very slow and we're about to close" so my wife walked out Surprised &Dumbfounded.It's like REALLY???I wanted to say inappropriate stuff but decided that she was not worth it. Went to get 5 highlights of lavender color in my gray/white hair with no previous coloring. The color became pink within the first week. When I went in to complain, I was told they would do it over (more bleach/color on top of new bleach/color?). Would not give refund or store credit to get the pink cut off. Told maybe come back when the anonymous manager was there. Never again! read more

I used to love this place but this is the third time of my seeing poor treatment of a hair dresser by the manager. I have never seen such unprofessional treatment of the staff. I have found good stylists here, but they don't seem to stay at the salon. So I have to find a new one but I'm not returning to this location. read more

Our whole family been coming here to get haircuts since 2009. We love the ladies here they are knowledgeable and will really try to help you get the best haircut and color to your liking. We love miss SHAR she is the mng there and she make sure her crew is on top of things and gives best customer service. I waited from 6:40pm to 7:15 for a haircut for my son. There were 2 stylists working. When the first one was done she clocked out and told me the second stylist would be with me in a moment. She had made eye contact with me at least ten times in the 35 minutes while I was waiting so it isn't like she didn't know I was there. They had 2 people waiting in front of me and turned another away. The time to tell me she was leaving after her cut was before we waited 35 minutes. The second stylist wasn't even close to being done. Horrible customer service. I will never go back. read more
