    I had my things in my first unit for about 6 months, and then I rented a second unit for my…read morefurniture for about 3 months. Some things I was not happy with were that the "climate control" was on the warm side. When I got my furniture out some of the off-white pieces had darkened and discolored, I assume from the heat and humidity. Also, some items with glue or adhesive were damaged. I don't know what temperature the building is supposed to be kept at, but it wasn't cool enough. When I rented my first unit there was a trash can in the lobby area where the elevator is, but eventually that disappeared. The dumpster is also inaccessible to customers. There is a restroom by one of the elevators, but every time I tried to use it, it was locked. If vagrants getting in the building and using the restroom is a problem, then why not require the doors to be opened by codes all the time, not just at night, or put a key code on the restroom door? That way paying customers are not inconvenienced too. I was driving about an hour to get to the storage business, so a restroom would have been very helpful after a long drive. Many times when I came to put something in or get something out of storage during the week, the same car was parked right in front of the doors to the elevator. I never saw anyone getting in or out of the car while I was there, so I can only assume it was an employee's car. There is not a shortage of parking, so why park in a spot that is going to cause an inconvenience to customers? If I ever need to rent a storage unit again I'm not so sure that I will go with Big Tex again. They are pricey for what you get.

I'm sharing my experience to warn others about significant problems at this…read morefacility: Safety Concerns: During my tenancy, I was trapped in a malfunctioning elevator along with other tenants. We had to call police and fire departments for assistance. This created dangerous conditions and prevented access to our belongings. Discriminatory Treatment: I experienced what I believe was racial profiling and discrimination during my time as a customer. Despite having paid my bill in full, I was illegally locked out of my unit on two separate occasions. This occurred while I was preparing to move internationally, causing me to nearly miss my flight and preventing me from seeing a dying family member--one of the most painful experiences of my life. Poor Customer Service: When online payment systems weren't working, I was instructed to come in person to pay Staff was confrontational and accused me of saying things I never said When I respectfully corrected the misinformation, I was locked out of my paid unit in retaliation Despite documented attempts to reach managers David and Brian over the course of a year, I never received callbacks Staff claimed to have "hundreds of notes" on my case but never followed up Financial Practices: Rent increases occur with unusual frequency--every other month--which is excessive compared to industry standards. The facility is overpriced for the quality of service and treatment provided. Final Thoughts: This company prioritizes revenue over customer safety, dignity, and basic service standards. I strongly advise potential customers, particularly people of color, to seek alternative storage options. After these experiences, I will never trust another storage company with my belongings and would sooner invest in private storage solutions. I'm documenting these experiences and will be removing my belongings as soon as possible.
