This store can be a quick alternative to going to the big box stores. That said, their customer service is lacking. I've been several times and good luck if you need help with anything. Their app is frustrating as it doesn't work consistently and if you inquire about anything, it's met with grumbling. I don't need any employee to pamper me but maybe doing your job without an attitude would be a good start. This doesn't only apply to one person either. Smart & Final has electronic coupons on select items that you have to "clip" from their app. Well, if the app worked, then it would be fine, but the app doesn't work. Even the associates in the store commented that other customers had issues. After fussing around with the app, deleting and reinstalling the app, it still didn't work. Smart & Final? This place is a sh*t show it's like the blind leading the blind, I ran in here cause I needed to get a couple things and my God it was awful the tomatoes had nats all over them as well as MOLD on them and the onions had mold and putrid smell coming from them and there was carts of produce blocking the items I needed to get to and no employee in sight (I just moved it over) also the milk had crust all over them, there was no carts available and lady on the intercom screaming at the employees gave me an instant migraine. The line to checkout will be 15 people deep, wrapped around the store and one check stand will be open moving so slow. I just don't get it. I've passed by this place for years. I always thought it was one of those places where you had to be a member. Sort of like SAMS or Costco. But I found out, you don't have to be. It looks like that's how it used to be, but now they just give you the discount prices. There are some really good buys here and the quality of the products is very good. They carry a little bit of everything. There are Fruits up front. A frozen sections, meats, dry goods, canned. Most of the items are bulk, but not all. After a long conversation with who they introduced as the store manager -him trying to convince me I saved a lot and me pointing out it's FALSE ADVERTISING- I was able to get the over charged amount back. I only had one small item of LaCroix sparkling water to return and since my work is out in Torrance, it would be too late for me to return it back at my place in the Valley, so I stopped by here after work. The lady did not have any courtesy and she did not even smile. It looked as if she wasn't happy with her job or even being there by the counter. She told me that I would have to go back to the place where I purchased it from regardless of distance. I never had any problem from any store returning a $4 item?! And she later said she'll accept it but in the future anything over $15 or any perishable item cannot be returned. What the hell?! To the manager: I think you need to retrain these people or better still rehire new ones who shows enthusiasm, who are courteous and thoughtful to customers. read more

I like this location because it is between work and home. Have noticed on a few visits that Floors smell like chemical as does there bathrooms. I like when stores have sanitizers or wipes for use on carts. I have not seen at this location. Also hand soap dispenser has been broken for some time now in restroom. Store I find well organized. So, I was in line at the store today trying to check out at around 5pm and as many of you know who shop here when you wait in line a number is called out for you to check out at that register. Well, there happened to be a mixed up a number was called our and this elderly couple went ahead but then another number got called out; don't know if it was for the same register or not but I was uncertain about it so I just went because the couple was on the 3rd register but then moved towards the 5th which was the number called when I was waiting to approach a register. So because the couple went to the 5th I decided to go to the 3rd register because I was assuming that was the original number called for that elderly couple ahead of me and were just impatient because of the lady on that register and went to the 5th anyways I approach the register and whoever was on it was really rude about the misunderstanding and had a little bit of an attitude about it when I was trying to explain the misunderstanding that had occurred and pointed me to other numbers rudely; anyway the reason I'm giving this 5 stars is because whoever was the nice woman on register 4 helped me out and allow d me to just check out there because of this entire misunderstanding. I was disappointed today cause they did not have what I wanted and when there was an item that was new and I wanted to try it but was disappointed again when at the checkout stand the item would not scan and no manager was around at the time to remedy this issue of not scanning. I visited this store Thursday April 4. The cashier never even looked at me. I'm not kidding. Her back was turned through out my transaction except to ring me up. I had to ask if that was my total as I looked over at the screen. She just nodded her head and continued speaking to another employee about "a baby " , I tried to see her name tag ( Letty?). Just beware of a I unfriendly cashier that wears her sunglasses on top of her head and never smiles. I think the company has even given her a supervisor position. What??! I live so much closer to another Smart and Final and there is also Costco and Sams Club around the corner. If I want self service instead of a friendly face helping me there are plenty of options. Service is not good. The employees don't know about the promos. I almost feel it was a scan. I bought gift cards[100.00) worth asking how do I get the 20.00 off my next purchase. She said it prints a coupon after paying. It didn't print out. It turned out 125.00 needs to be spent. So I got another 25.00 gift card but she couldn't void the others. She said she couldn't do anything, it's out of her hands. The ONLY reason I got these cards here was for 20.00 off my next purchase. some months ago I might have written a better review. They have a lot and at better prices than many, but, the food is sometimes old. Check the quality of items like vegetables, bagged Parmesan cheese and garlic. I used to like the frozen food but the quality is no longer the same, a recent bag of "Broccoli Cuts" (instead of their usual "Broccoli" was more stem than top, a lot more than pictured, and turned out to be a year old, a complaint to the store about the extremely poor quality (stems like balsa wood) caused me to look at the date stamp (do you look at the dates on everything you purchase? apparently we should), it was dated 3-13 -12... yikes... last March..... My other complaints would be music louder than a store needs, and the guys stocking blocking aisles and wheeling around too often without regard for shoppers, (the product needs to be accessible to sell it), too often very long lines. Still part of my regular shopping route, but with more attention and less enthusiastic support... The parking lot is accessible and not so steep carts roll while loading, the corner easily reached from both directions. Nice long hours to avoid the crowds. And no freaking store card... I hate the pound of store cards I am expected to carry and keep track of to get the discount... how nice to deal with a store that so values my business that they will offer me the reduced prices because I chose to walk into their door rather than make me go online to do my shopping twice... read more

Wow, certainly not what I expected. Had visions of dented cans, poor quality produce and meats.....I was very wrong. The produce and meat selection was fantastic. A huge fan of meat from Costco above any other store and I think Smart & Final was better on price, selection and quality. This store was a tad crowded and the check out lines were long. We will definitely be coming back especially for the selection of meats. read more

For being in Torrance the store leaves a lot to be desired. Shopping carts are old and sloppy with inoperable wheels. Doesn't help that pallets of product were in the aisles sitting.
