It's been a few years since I've been in a Smart & Final. From what I remember, they have certainly upped their game. Very clean store, you are greeting with the fruit & vegetable section, following closely by the dairy section - which I thought was great as most grocery stores hide their milk, etc. at the back of the store so you have to walk through rows of other items - hoping you'll buy more than you need. Here, if you just need a gallon of milk, you can get it quickly and get out. There are two doors, one marked exit only. On the day I was there, only the entrance door was working for in and out (as I tried to go out the automatic exit door and it did not open). Good prices, full grocery story experience, even a butcher. Plus wines and spirits if that's your thing. Worth a shot if you need some groceries. Enjoy!!! read more

I wanted to take a minute to recognize an outstanding employee at your store -- Dante. I see him almost every time I shop there, and he's consistently friendly, professional, and welcoming. Today, my car wouldn't start in the parking lot. Dante was helping another customer load her groceries, but he noticed me right away, smiled, and said he'd be right over. A few moments later, he came to check on me, stopped what he was doing, and made sure I was okay. He even went to his car, brought over his jump starter, and got my car running within minutes. He shook my hand, smiled again, and made sure everything was working before he went back to help others. That kind of genuine kindness and willingness to help is rare these days. Best customer service (haven't been able to say that in a long time) provided by Dante! I was in a hurry and traveled to 2 different stores seeking "hot dog paper food trays" to hold frozen bananas for a birthday party treat. He not only found them he personally walked me to the bananas to test size the tray. It's the little things that go a long way...especially if you are pressed for time. I got a chip error on my card and told this little Asian cashier lady to run the numbers on it which I know they can because smart n finals do it for me all the time and I even saw the option for it on the touch pad. She proceeds to take my card and bends the crap out of it to make the chip work which it won't because i literally told her that the chip came defective. After she bent it all crazy she turns and tells me it won't work because the chip is bent. Today was a very unpleasant and stressful visit at this Smart and Final! Associate manager Carl was not friendly and not helpful at all. We had trouble with a digital coupon and the app. He didn't help us at all and we were left on our own to figure out how to get the coupon. I went off to the side and when I finally got the app to work; I mentioned it to Carl and Carl was visibly irritated. He rudely said "Wait! Don't jump ahead. You are jumping ahead of me!" I apologized as didn't realize he was still in the middle of something. Later on I gave a $100 bill to pay and he muttered "Oh God..." He was upset that I gave such a large bill. When he handed me my change; I never got any acknowledgment or even a thanks for visiting the store. Carl made the whole shopping experience unpleasant. He was clearly irritated several times. He didn't like that we had issues with the digital coupon, the app and that we were paying with a large bill. He had no patience and was not helpful. As a store manager; I would've thought he would be the first to be helpful and understanding of customers! I read other Yelp reviews of this store about bad customer service and I can relate. I will not return to this Smart and Final. I have been to the Smart and Final on Western Ave at Rancho Palos Verdes and the customer service there is so much better. The prices are good on most items. The produce is very fresh. There are some very good discounts on the 99 cents rack. The lines are rarely long, and the store is extra clean. Some of the frozen dinner aren't restocked quickly enough but overall it is a great store. I shop there almost every day. read more

I went to this Smart and final hoping to get what EVERYONE seems to be looking for , Clorox wipes. There was a line outside the store , everybody had to be 6ft. away and a person manning the door, they had stuff for your carts to wipe them down and everybody was kind and patient waiting to go into the store. They had cases of water , and were loaded up on all produce and meat the day I went. They had most items but limited. NO TP . But as I pushed my cart around a corner saw a heavenly light open from above , chariots sounded and you heard a stadium sized chant of cheer ...in my mind , I FOUND CLOROX WIPES! read more

Their roasted chickens are fabulous. Shelves are always well stocked and the employees helpful.

They have bulk nuts and oatmeal and granola and coffee!!! As in, the containers where you empty the exact amount you want into a bag. I was so pleased. Wish they had a peanut butter dispenser but that's okay. Didn't explore the rest of the store but seemed clean and like there were probably some deals to be had. read more

Where is the ZERO star. Today I went to the store (I rarely go as I live in Hermosa but thought I'd try it out again). I used the restroom and there was a "click here to lock the door" button. I've never seen that before! So I clicked it. I was in there for less than 2 minutes when someone started bashing on the door. I finally went out smelling fine like I always do with my cologne with FOUR employees waiting for me. Okay, no biggie, but then....I'm paying for my stuff at check out (super nice checker) and some manager comes over to me to BERATE me about how I shouldn't be locking the door (because it scares people lmfao)! LMAO I've never even seen a "lock the door" flashing button in my life! And she told me TWICE not to do that even after I told her I NEVER go to your store! This is a good Smart & Final location, larger than most smaller ones that has fresh food products. Not quite a "supermarket" meaning a big grocery store for shopping for mulitiple choices of the same products through different brands and options as well as carrying obscure goods. This store replaced the Haggen that replaced the Albertson's. The old Smart & Final (at 332 S PCH, Redondo Beach) closed and is replaced by two new stores - this one and the one in South Redondo (1516 S PCH). Today is the opening day. The advertised sale isn't all that great to me but there were a TON of people in the store at lunch time. I got a free reusable shopping bag. Eh. Inside, this place looks exactly like the original Albertson's. Same harsh and dim lighting. Same layout and hardware. I'm not familiar with Smart & Final stores but didn't see anything unique... ...EXCEPT that this store's manager worked for Haggen and kept the recipe for the awesome cream cheese cinnamon rolls! You get what you pay for here. The service is quite nice. The food selection isn't the highest quality but remember it's smart and final. The lady with the the glasses who works the front registers sometimes at night is always super sweet and kind! Haven't had a bad experience here yet. The prices are cheap, the sizes are large, but the quality is a step down from the large grocery chains. Prices are low and that made me happy. Not a bad spot for the basic things that you need. I was even surprised to find organic items here. I came here just to get cleaning supplies and they had a good selection at low prices. The checkout was slow, but the store was nice and clean and had a little something for everyone. I love this store but then I always have. I grew up in Redondo Beach starting at 1964 and this building this Market used to be a family owned Market called Di Simone's. Mom used to push me in a stroller and shop here. That was a great Market. Later it was sold and became Lucky Market also a great store. This building has marked time and I wonder in the back if there's anything left of those by gone days. Now it's Smart and Final but when mom shopped her S &F it was further down the coast hwy past Torrance Blvd and funny but back then it smelled like a warehouse and these stores don't now. This is a extra store which I like and they have what I need. I just thought I would take a trip down memory lane. Redondo Beach was so different then, small families, kids at the beach or on there bikes, little houses. Mostly tan kids with white blond salt streaks in there hair. Let it be known that I get poor service even if within arms reach - I will not go there. And If there is exceptional service I will of course go back with pleasure and that's what I have because of Helen at this location. Wow! I have never been so disrespected ever in my life. I come here all the time have a great relationship with the employees. Came in for a bottle of whiskey and noticed it was all locked up for the first time and was joking around about it.. the manager blond hair lady got super pissed off and was nasty to me making a big deal out of nothing.. I can't believe the way she talked and treated me. I spend a decent amount of money there on a weekly basis, and for her to treat me like that is unacceptable. Glad to have Smart and Final here. Prices are very reasonable. The staff is nice and helpful. You are better off buying paper and cleaning products than items that are supposed to be fresh like fruit. The quality of the produce is not very good. You are better off in a full service supermarket like Vons for this type of stuff. Otherwise, the shelves are well stocked and items are easy to find. read more

Store does not enforce Under 10 Items Checkout Lane. This happens all the time at this store. Today, a woman had about 30 + items and was accommodated in the Under 10 Item Lane. Today is the day I stopped buying fresh cut fruit and anything in the refrigerated department. Why you ask? It doesn't appear this location clears anything that's expired from their shelves. When I shop, I expect refrigerated goods to expire a reasonable amount of time later. I am ever so tired of buying fresh cut fruit that has a "sell by" date of today or a few days ago and not realizing it until I open the lid to smell the stench of decomposition. I bought one of those bulk bags of cotton candy in June 2019 only to find that all the "cotton" were rocks. It expired January of 2018. Readers should always be cautious of reviewers who exaggerate. This is not one of those cases. Their fresh cut fruit is consistently expired or expires the same day. I'm no lawyer or anything, but I'm sure there's got to be some kind of law against this kind of negligence. read more

Opening day and it's packed!!! So nice to have a Grocery store here again after the whole Albertsons/Haggens mess. Since this location is an "extra" they have a nice meat and produce section. Large liquor and beer selection too. Prices on booze is on par with Costco so that's a great thing. Today they are having a ton of opening day specials that will continue thru the week. I had an incident at the store with a checker, so I wrote to the corporate office. What I got in return was the store manager who called me and said "You had a complaint, is that it?" When I said I wrote down everything in my email to corporate, she said "ok I will talk to the checker" and hung up. There was no apology from the store manager and she was almost as rude as the checker. Now I know where the checker got her attitude from. read more

Omg! This Smart & Final is the worst I've ever been to. Their customer service is piss poor and deserves less than zero. They will only treat you right if you're white. Yes the employees including the manager Andrew is racist and ugly. Andrew was so horrible to me that the customers standing by had to step in and help me. Andrew and his coworkers are very lazy and failed to do their job. There was only one cashier at the resister (which Ive seen before here) while there was at least seven people in line. Andrew stood there for awhile just talking while the line became longer. It was a huge mess. One cashier refused to ring me up making an excuse but he took the people before me. Andrew signed into his register and took the people that were behind me. Some of the customers noticed what was going on and let me in front of them. I explained to Andrew what happened and he argued with me in front of customers and all. The coworker that refused to ring me up chimed in as the two of them doubled team me. They were rude and used ugly language. I thought they were going to try and hang me with a noose. I just want to say that this store has become my primary grocery store since it opened. Today I want to thank Helen who greeted me today by my first name and and also remembered the last letter of my name being an "I". My late husband and I have been long time shoppers at the Von's store down the street, though we never liked the store, way to small. I have shopped at that store for over 20 years and no one has ever greeted me by my first name. I really do like this Smart and Final store for my primary shopping and again I'm just amazed that Helen remembered me as a shopper that comes in frequently.
