I have been going to this Redondo Beach grocery store for nearly 50 years. Smart & Final has been, by far, the best operator of this store. When I ask for assistance finding something or looking to see if there is additional stock in the back room, the employees have always stopped what they were doing to help me, without exception. They have always been helpful and friendly. When the checkout line gets long, they quickly man additional checkout counters. The store is a clean and pleasant place to shop. I'm not sure how much control the employees have over the items delivered to the store from the warehouse. My only real concern lately was about their Russet Potatoes. I bought a 10 lb. bag of potatoes that were labeled Sun Supreme Idaho Potatoes. I finally traced the awful smell in my refrigerator to these potatoes. There were riddled with black spots and there was a black decomposed stinky potato mess at the bottom of the bag. The next week, I bought 10 lbs. of Harvest Select Idaho Russet Potatoes that were excellent. Please ditch the Sun Supreme brand. read more

I am writing this as a way to express my gratitude and honestly praise Hilary that was on the night shift last night, 8/13/2023. I came to this store to get some much needed items along with some fresh produce to cook a soup dinner last night. I found just about everything I needed and my cart was stocked! I love Smart & Final's pricing because they have products in bulk that's needed. My favorite are their sandwich bags, probably the best deal you'll get because I use those bags to store cut up veggies/fruits/ etc. It lasts me over a year but when I'm empty I make it a point to go to Smart & Final to get their sandwich bags. Anywho, back to my trip last night. I was looking for roasted peanuts still in their shell. There was a kind woman ahead of me in line, I left the line to try to look one more time for those peanuts because I wanted to bring home some good snacks for my boyfriend. I didn't find them and came back. I asked the check out clerk if they carried such peanuts and she gave me clear directions on where to go to find them, as I was leaving, the kind customer said she would load my cart for me! I was stunned, I thanked her immensely but let her know that was not necessary, I let her know I could unload it and run over to look for the peanuts! She insisted and I was in awe at the kindness of this customer who had already paid her for groceries and could have taken that time to leave but spent it helping me unload my cart. I found the peanuts and came back. The clerk ID'd me because I had a bottle of Line 39. She remarked and asked about my Hawaiian looks and I also had a Hawaii '86 shirt on. Her name she disclosed was Hilary and was such a pleasant person to interact with. I feel like she might have been management because the store was clean, when I came in to the store I saw her with a mop/cleaning bucket and I said hello to her. She asked her colleague who was a younger gentleman to collect all the carts and even stated she would assist him. If she is not in management she most definitely should be! I got a sense that she knows how to take care of a massive store and also be so incredibly pleasant to interact with. This review was to share that my experience at this Smart & Final was an unforgettable one and it was thanks to the kindness and amazing customer service from your employee Hilary! Generally, it actually takes a lot for most people to leave a review on a market so that said it means that I've bought products that have been spoiled or expired at least three times from the store. Poor customer service. I have bought fish salmon to be specific and I have bought yogurt and they've all been expired. In all fairness the times that I've attempted to take the products back it's not been a problem, but most people don't necessarily have the intention of returning anything especially from a store In terms of the staff, It's 50-50 hit or miss. The prices are falsely advertised. The only upside for the store is the distance from my home other than that I will probably never go here again. read more

They need to have security at the front door to not allow people NOT wearing masks in. I heard that people are coming into the store without wearing masks and are throwing things at the employees when they tell them they have to leave or put on a mask. that they're assaulting them and attacking them besides contaminating the entire store by breathing in there with no mask on. Security should be at the door to make sure that everyone who enters wears a mask and helps keep us all safer AND so the lockdown and uncomfortableness can end sooner. read more

This store replaces the Haggen that replaced the Albertson's. The old Smart & Final (at 332 S PCH, Redondo Beach) closed and is replaced by two new stores - this one and the one in North Redondo (615 N PCH). Today is the opening day. The advertised sale isn't all that great - bananas are 10 cents off a pound, cereal is 50 cents off, and toilet paper is a couple of dollars off for a half pallet. You get a free reusable shopping bag. Don't go buck wild now! Inside, this place looks exactly like the original Albertson's. Same harsh and dim lighting. Same layout and hardware. I'm not familiar with Smart & Final stores but didn't see anything unique... read more

Terrbile, service and lack of product knowledge. No one on the floor ask for assistance for dry ice. When there was 3 people talking and standing right in front of the dry ice freeze. The guy replied the cashier will help. Only one cashier was at the time. Another cashier was among the 3 talking up a storm. Your produce when ask about foam ice box he said on top of the ice cream freeze however you had none. Found out from Gabriella that SnF don't carry this anymore. Quick stop , didn't have much time for i was on a time crunch . This location is my go - to! I know my Spots . This S&F is really pleasant , inside and out. I like that it's in close proximity to the beach and you can see it from the parking lot. To speed things up with the story I went in and checked the items I needed off of my list. Wow . Found everything pretty fast, yess ! Employees here are normally friendly and helpful when I make my trips down here. I was at the tail end of my list now in the coffee aisle and a worker quickly noticed I needed help finding something. Without hesitation asked if I need help looking for an item. I totally wear my heart on my sleeve and battle high anxiety so I'm obviously in a rush w my head spinning with a confused look on my face perusing through w my cart. The girl working had great attitude, friendly and approachable. I think she actually put my frantic nerves at ease during our brief encounter , I think her name was Michelle or Vanessa . Thank you for your help ! almost finished. Heading to check-out line .....approaching cashier, chose a good line for once , no line .... one guy Ahead just paid at the register and now it's my turn to be right Spankin next and get to where I need to drop my groceries off just in time !!!!! I'm happy that a S & F opened closer to home even if it's only a half mile closer. I can hit Trader Schmoes on the way home and be done with my weekly grocery list. This place is great for larger quantity items but not quite Cosco size which is fine for a small family. If one wants a grocer for specific items, there's Ralph's. But i like this alternative. No long lines and crazy drivers in the parking lot like Cosco. This is a great place to stock up for kid or adult parties too. read more

I've been a loyal Smart & Final customer since before it was even trendy. Haha. But seriously, it seems that ever since all the other supermarkets in the world went out of business Smart & Final is not the end-all-be-all place to shop! Here are the reasons I've been such a fan for so long: 1. this stuff is always extremely nice and helpful. 2. They have a huge variety and selection of all the Staples. 3. They have increased the availability of organic and other non GMO types of food products. 4.there is always plenty of parking and it's a very convenient in and out. 5. They surprisingly have a nice fish selection. I've recently been getting the stuffed salmon that you just put in the toaster oven for 13 minutes and while I do have a gourmet dinner. Just like that! At least two of them did not, and even when I told them I was uncomfortable with this, they still did not cover their noses! On the positive side, the people are nice and the service ok. However, avoid the fresh produce. Someone is not doing their job, not sure if it is the buyers or just lack of turnover. The past 3 weeks, I have bought blueberries, strawberries and grapes. I place the directly in the fridge, but they are covered in fungus the next day. At first, I though I just made a bad purchase, but it was repeated the following week. While not convenient, I am moving on to whole foods for now. PS. They used to carry the Amoroso rolls, which brought me to the store, but I never see them anymore, even though the shelf is still labeled as such. Again, bad inventory control? Lastly, the liqueur cabinets are always locked, so no access to boubon with out tracking down an employee. read more

This store is right near my house and I visit here often. I have now had several interactions with store supervisor Jared. He is extremely rude, last time he didn't tell me you had to spend $5 more dollars to get the deal that saved $15. When I got home I saw the mistake and called the store, he said "you have to read the sales tags here". I can't believe you have such a ruse employee. I was especially irritated with him on Friday when I came in for several items and had to call the help button to get a bottle that was locked. He came over did not make eye contact or even look at me and said " what did you need out of here". I was shocked out how rude can someone could be with out looking and treating a customer who wants a locked item. I said, no the correct response to a customer is hi there how can I help you" he responded with I am fine. I repeated myself and he had no response. Look a lot of people out there would be happy to have a good job talking with nice people by the beach. Why do you have this rude guy with keys to your store! Get him out. First this location was Albertsons, then Haggen (good riddance, R.I.P.).....and now we have Smart & Final. In fact, now we have two new Smart & Finals in South Redondo - the other one replaced the AlbertsonsthenHaggen down by the Pier. The little Smart & Final on PCH near Torrance Blvd. closed in favor of these 2 new stores. This 1516 PCH location is very close to home for me. Bristol Farms shut down their store a stone's throw from here a few years back. Boo. And now there's a big hoopla in progress over condo development on that corner. The nearby Von's on PCH in the Village is nasty, getting worse by the day. The ancient Whole Foods down by the Pier is tiny tiny & parking is a nightmare. So there's the boring history. Now. I have no use for low-end "grocery" stores. I drive all the way up the PV Hill to Ralph's & Bristol Farms. Don't much like Trader Joe's or Sprouts & HELL no to Costco. I wish this Smart & Final was a Gelson's, for example. There's a huge row going on in Manhattan Beach over a proposed new Gelson's, something about increased traffic/lack of parking. (Gelson's: come to South Redondo! I used to like your deli & your food bars.) Before this visit, I hadn't been to a Smart & Final in many years, and had never been to one that sold fresh food. If you need a thousand paper plates in bulk for a kids school project, here you go. I'll give 'em 2 stars (Meh. I've experienced better) cuz anything's better than Haggen. But this area sure does need a nice grocery store, not an ugly warehouse-atmosphere place. And I hear Aldi has arrived in Cali. I remember that place from Chicago. If you think Smart & Final is low-end, wait 'till you experience Aldi...... Poop. read more

Don't quite understand the negative reviews. That said, if you are shopping for your family and need decent prices, a good variety of product and the option to buy regular sized or bulk sized goods this fits the bill. They have nice enough produce, meat and fish and I've yet not found what we need. A nice perk is that they carry Vernors Ginger Ale from Detroit! I am not a grocery snob and not looking for anything more than fair pricing with a good selection in a clean and safe store. This place fits the bill for me and with no idiotic "loyalty" or "club" cards that the other places use to make you ferret out the sale items. If you're not looking for a snobbish, gourmet, pay high prices to feel better about yourself place, S&F does the job. 5 stars from this working family in Redondo. read more

Don't waste your time. 3x now it's been a several hour experience and they refuse (adamantly) to stand behind their shoppers quote even though the chat is there. We ordered from their online app and If I could give this store and its employees zero stars I would have.I did the ordering and my husband trying to help me out and save me an errand picked it up. However when we unpacked it, we realized that they had not only forgotten half of our order, but some of the products they did deliver were incorrect. We tried to look at the order details via the smart and final app and it lacks the capability to show your previously ordered items and they do not provide you with a receipt upon pick up. We rang the store to ask what happened and rather than confirm their error in not sending the entire order, the employee was no help stating, there are some bags in the fridge, they could be yours." I had half expected they would offer to deliver the remaining goods to remedy the mistake. I then went to the store to return the incorrect items and to pick up the undelivered goods. When I spoke to the manager about the error and the fact that an online order had now over an hour and a half to complete, he merely shrugged his shoulders saying that "he was new to the store and that his old store was much better at the online ordering process". While some online shopping apps really do save time (eg costco), the smart and final app is really still in its beta form and should be used with extreme caution (because if you have any problems don't expect any help from the employees). In short I will never use again and may just do all my shopping online at Costco. read more

I really like shopping at this place! They have a great store line called " Sun Harvest" - mostly organic foods like eggs, corn chips and coffee. They have a lot of foods that I would buy at Whole Foods but for less money. I still buy my meat and chicken at WF but most everything else I buy here. They have a nice selection of organic produce. The employees are soooo nice and care about their store. If you get Sharon consider yourself lucky. The aisles are wide and its more of an enjoyable shopping experience than markets. So I had a pleasant surprise today at this store. A new refrigerator case for higher end cheese products, a decent vegetarian section and a few deli meat items caught my eye. This was something that was very lacking and I am glad to see it! Produce has been pretty good lately. The meat department and fresh fish section, however, needs a serious overhaul. This place isn't for me. I want a grocery store. This is a box box (big quantity) store that happens to have grocery items. I went in for orzo, organic produce and Kerrygold butter. They have none of them (aside from maybe 3 organic fruits). They do carry 25-lb bags of rice, if that's what you need. I suppose they could be an alternative to Costco? But not as good as Costco. I think this was a bad move. We need a true grocery store in this spot. My guess is Sprouts and Trader Joe's are going to do quite well! read more

I'll start out by saying I hate this store. There is something odd about it. It's the people that work there. They are young, snotty and think they are big shots. The only one I like is the black girl. I don't know her name but she's very nice. I was in there today. A man that looked like a child molester waited on me. He never smiled. I got a bag of sugar and told him it was leaking. He says, "do you still want it?" Really? I said no I want another one. He didn't even get someone to go get it for me. He asked me if I was going to go get it. Rude! When I came back from getting my own sugar he was trying to bag my stuff. I put the stuff in my cart. Didn't notice I was missing a bag. I got home and noticed it was missing. I called the store and a young fast talking girl answered the phone. I said I left a bag there and did they find it. She didn't ask any questions just said no. I know the bag was there. It was in a personal bag. So basically I lost $15.00 worth of groceries and one of my favorite bags. Needless to say I won't ever be back. I really wanted to love this new smart n final (it's only 5 mins walk from my home), but I think they have some serious distribution channel issues because perishable food from this store spoils quicker than I've ever seen. I bought a gallon of milk that was supposed to have another 10 days until it's "best by date" but within 2 days it was completely sour/spoiled. This has happened several times with various items, so for now, I only buy non-perishables or some frozen items from this store. read more

I love this place and their chicken taste GREAT. Shout out to the wonderful gentleman in the meat Dept for overseeing that wonderful rotisserie machine and the mastery of perfect tasty chicken every time. Management of this store called a tow truck on my car club for meeting in the parking lot before we left for a car cruise, despite the fact that we ALL went into the store and bought food,beverages and picnic supplies. I personally Spent $40, and I know several other people who spent that much as well. They probably made $200 or more off of us in the 40 minutes we were there. He claimed to receive a complaint from a customer about the parking lot being crowded, yet most of us were parked in the adjoining bank parking lot (the bank was closed) , and at the far outer ends of the S&F lot. I told him we WERE the customers, as we'd all spent money there and we'd be leaving in 20 minutes , then asked if he would call the tow truck and tell them not to come, and he refused. There was still lots of parking available. He was completely unreasonable. Screw him and Smart and Final for hiring such an unreasonable a**hole. ZERO STARS. read more

They never have enough lines open for shopping and I am always stuck having to wait over 5mins to be served even as late as 8 or 9pm at night. Please put more people on the checkout lines instead of cost cutting and reducing your number of employees-you might as well have self serve lines if none of them are being attended! read more

REALLY REALLY BAD BUSINESS!!! - 10 ********** stars - If you owned a business and Once-A-Year you had a guaranteed flow of 50-100 customers for 90 minutes on a quiet Sunday morning, would you like it? Of course you would! If 1 or 2 customers had a complaint or a comment wouldn't you just say "They're gone in a little bit, thank you?" YES - Well The idiot "Wannabee" Parking Enforcer manager of this Fart n Smile store did just that yesterday! Our car club met there (like we have for several years) on Sunday and (it's now S&F) we met, some parked in their lot, some in the adjacent bank lot. Almost all 80+ of us were hungry and thirsty and shopped at S&F - the manager Bullied us by threatening that he called tow trucks and Police! Of course I offered to let them tow me 1st since I was there 1st! The posted signs stated 2 hour parking for S&F customers, which I was - receipt in hand - Tow Trucks nor police ever showed. We left - NEVER TO RETURN! Avoid this B.S. Store and they'll be gone next year too! Sad read more

Management of this store called to have vans towed on Sunday January 8. Our car club was meeting there to leave on a car cruise in the area. We made sure to park away from the entrance, not to take up the spaces close to the store, and everyone went in a made purchases. We were customers who spent money. Instead of coming out and engaging with us to reveal his concern, he called tow trucks and in turn cops. Not a good move from this store. You now have at least 60 less customers. Learn how to talk to people before you act!! read more

We are really happy with this store and frequent it often. They do have the bulk items but also sale the single normal size items. They always have pretty good sales on. Staff is super friendly. Never over crowded here. Clean. Very happy to have a nice store with lots of options in the Riviera. read more

wow. met up here on sunday for a van run, Found out as some of our members were shopping in their store that they ( the manager ) had called a tow truck or some such nonsense because of all the vans being parked there ( although a majority of them were parked at the chase bank which was closed being it was Sunday. ) Pretty messed up since a fair amount of money was spent there by the customers they needlessly harassed.
